    I see a couple of comments here of people complaining about "tempo changes" and "unclear notes" during this LIVE performance, saying that Tiffany Poon's recording on her channel is a lot better. Do you not understand that when you are on stage, you generally play at your worst due to the immense pressure, not to mention the ability to have as many takes as you need before you post a satisfied recording on your channel. To compare the two is laughable.

    I find this to be a fitting tempo for a big hall like this. As a performer you have to always think about the last person sitting in the last row and how the music is going to sound to that person. If you play any faster than this it’s going to be just a puddle of notes for the last row. Besides, this tempo works incredibly well in any case. It adds to the meticulous character of the piece, almost frantically pedantic

    • @tm-ti3gg
      @tm-ti3gg 9 месяцев назад

      But it's the Chopin competition, not a concert, they aren't looking for that consideration in a performance. Fair enough if that was intentional but I doubt it since she is clearly competent enough to realise that wasn't going to get her through to the second round in this competition. After all in this context she is performing for the judges and the audience are just bystanders.

    I guess people who criticize Tiffany for tempo changes just don't understand that music is a language, just like "English" is a language. Tiffany is telling a dramatic story here! Her intonation while "Speaking" in the language of Music is a voice that fluctuates just like the human voice changes in pitch and duration while one tells of an exciting adventure... This Etude has no time for mechanical precision and it would be silly to listen to a person speaking in English with a monotonous, metronomic voice. Tiffany's performance is just wonderful. it is so brilliantly performed: a creative, tempestuous, TORRENT! Tiffany is a fantastic talent. Hey guys, stop trying to give Tiffany piano lessons already! A great pianist is NOT a mechanical man (woman)... One must not play this Etude with rigid precision at 78 RPM! Now, this performance is ART! Wow!
