this guy is insane. one of the best interpretations i've ever heard.
Evgeny Kissin
@@anadjurdjevic1279 what does kissin refer to? we're talking about one of the best interpretations, not about the best one - and (in my opinion) the one from kissin is way too fast :)
He’s up there with Dmitry Shishkin
@@duartenicholas7369 can't actually agree on that. shishkin's op.10/4 lacks a bit on dynamics (sounds too compressed) in my view - but that could also be the recording/post processing... but he's definitely a great pianist, especially like his mephisto waltz! :)
i feel like i heard every individual note with this dude playing
every other interpretation i’ve heard just kind of sounds mushy, very nicely done
give a chance to dmitry shishkin, it’s also good
Unfortunately playing it faster by even 1 metronome beat requires tremendous skill. Anyone can play it slow and expressive. Use of pedal makes it easier as well.
Exactly how I feel too! I am so astonished by how clear each note is. It sounds like he was playing staccato but if we listen more closely, he was actually still keeping the slurs in the original score. To have so much control at this speed is just insane
Garcia Garcia butchered this etude in the competition.
Liu’s is almost perfect.
@@tonyaventura5603 I think so too. Can you check out my interpretation on my youtube channel? It's in the video UBC Nest 2nd Try, the comment section has the number 4 etude. Good day.
This is the only rendition where all the accompanying hand's chords are heard. It adds a completely new layer to the piece.
Yes one of the best!👏👏
What about Claudio Arrau’s version?
Maurizio Pollini.
Chiu also does a great job with the voicing, and his overall interpretation is very sharp which makes me like it as much as Bruce's.
The Italian Pianoforte’s tone has to do with that 😊
This is hands down the BEST performance of this piece I’ve seen.
I agree
i absolutely agree
And by a substantially large margin.
Fr bruce and his phrasing is just completely off the charts and he showed it off in so many pieces, this, the variations and the 1st concerto as well as the ballade are my favorites from the competition
ive been making a playlist of my favorite chopin recordings for all his pieces so i have listened to many op 10.4's and i wholeheartedly agree with this
Incredible dynamic control. Clarity. Speed. Nuance. He makes music out of this etude. He plays with great technical skill but also with great musical sensitivity.
damn the attention to dynamics and detail is crazy
I like his accents a lot. He showed me so many notes that I didn't really appreciate too much before.
Not to mention his clarity, sense of rhythm, and spontaneity.
it iss😩✋🎹
This etude is so well known and his clear sounds, articulations, voicing, speed and dynamics are just fantasic! He finds hidden melody lines, layers, adequate pedalling with stunning interpretation is just breathtaking!! Worth more than a Gold medal! Happy First Anniversary! 👏👏👍👍💙 😆🥳🎂🍌🍒
Astounding dynamic range and his ability to layer is just incredible, especially in such a high pressure performance situation. No question that he deserved first place.
WHAT?! this is the best interpretation holy shit
Wow Bruce nailed this etude. The expression, placement, and sharps are perfect. Outstanding!
Its almost like the entire piece he was slowly crescendoing… It didnt feel rush or give an anxious feeling. It just gave one of build up and passion. Greatest performance of this.
He deserved to be the winner because he is the best and different. What he brings to the music i can’t explain, you just have to feel.
As a pianist I am very happy to this guys getting into the music is just amazing. And also his hand is so relaxed when playing in such a high speed.
It's electrifying from start to finish.
This is impressive, you can see how he uses the harmonics pedal, the una corda, makes the dynamic of the piece unique and also the tempo❤❤❤❤
Are you sure he uses the una corda? I can’t see any obvious places where his left leg moves or where the keyboard shifts to the right.
Mogę słuchać tej pięknej muzycznej opowieści bez końca
A very attractive way of playing piano... full of passion, expression and joy, not to mention the insane technique! Hope he'll simply prove that he deserves to join the club of the greatest.
Never think of this way of interpretation, I can say it is so delicate with crystal-clear notes but also full with fiery passion. Presto on point - super quick but no furious feeling. LH makes also beautiful line that no one did the same.
Incredible! It is more than words I can say. Bruce is one of the best on this piece.
His right hand sounds magical. So fast, so clear, so even, and he can control perfectly how soft and loud he plays. However, I am most impressed with his left hand. He truly understands where the melody comes from in this étude. Moments like 0:14mindblown me as i’ve had my fair share of renditions of this étude but I’ve never heard anything like this.
I cant hear nothing, And Tiffany Poon what say you of her version?
@@africanhistory She's a fantastic player and I'm a big fan. However, her interpretation can't really be compared with Bruce Liu's. They are completely different! It seems like Tiffany Poon puts emphasis on the "fast notes" as the melody for most of the piece like most pianists do. By all means, it is a good interpretation and it is considered pretty standard for this etude. However, Bruce Liu's interpretation is different and I personally prefer it more.
Of course his right hand is magical, he's single.
@@africanhistory you can hear how distinct it is on his left hand at 0:14 compared to other versions
@@tridinh8217 That Fazioli piano is probably helping that too, which is, compared to Steinway, brighter and clearer, less muddy, which can help especially with clearness of bass notes like here.
Honestly I think this interp. Has the best sound control of all
Best recording/performance of this piece to date and it's live during a competition too lol
This is played so well, and so fast, that it almost sounds like magic to me. I can't imagine ever playing that well - regardless of how much I practiced. Just amazing.
Same! I have a master's degree in piano playing but it means nothing.
You gotta start too early in life. There's no hope for adults in piano.
@@sagar1992
Not true, I mean it isn't really disproven but imma Mythbust it.
@@sagar1992 bruce Liu started relatively late! Aged 14
@@balladin9200 Any examples you got? I don't think there's any concert pianist who started late and got this far.
This guy breaks all records. He's not only going at top speed but at the same time bringing to life Chopin's dynamic markings.
If I'm having a bad day, I try to listen to this amazing performance to lift me up and restore my faith in the human race.
Talent on loan from God. (R.L.)
Right you are.
This. This is the best interpretation on op.10 no.4 there is.
Legend has it the crowd did not clap because they were too busy picking up their jaws from the floor.
😂😂😂
For me this is the best op10 no4 performance
i like how he plays the three chords at 1:07
A lot of other pianists like to just play it mainly the same & loudly, but this one he plays it calmer/softer and puts alot of character to each chord
First time I’ve heard it like that myself! I’ve been practicing this piece for a year and I’m totally doing it this way from now on!
This is so different from the other Etude op 10 no 4's I've heard. Much more delicate but it never looses the melody or speed... Fantastic interpretation!
Bruce knows how to sprinkle the thunder and ride the lightning!
I couldn’t have put it better myself.
exactly!!
It's full of bravery but still sparkly and clear, which is so often missing from this piece and its various iterations!
Fantastic!! So great to see a true artist being recognised.
It is really very very valuable especially today, when low people more and more enter high places and so many reasonable common senses have been replaced by perverse mindset, without face and heart. High quality is being driven away by low one.
@@maryw9841 indeed. The decadence is at a peak today. We need to preserve the fine arts that nourish the Spirit. These young talents are essential.
First ever pianist that played this piece and I got goosebumps.
can't take my eyes off you
Great performance. Cant wait to hear him live.
Liu
It's a great performance with amazing techniques. It's one of the best performances ever. It was a series of surprises the whole time I listened to it. He is a great pianist with both musicality and technique.
Holy buckets Batman! Lightening fast and super clean. Maybe the best performance I heard of this etude.
Astonishingly fluid dexterity. He is beyond amazing.
Bruce, you have to issue the CHOPIN Etude Complete album someday soon.
I'm also inclined to hear the core Chopin pieces he didn't play at the competition, like the four ballades, the 24 preludes, and the second concerto.
We would rather Bruce tackle the large scale masterpieces like the Ballades, scherzi, polonaises, and the 2nd Concerto.
We already know Bruce is technically supreme….
Kocham to wykonanie,które towarzyszy mi kazdego dnia od samego rana ,muzyka rafiająca do głębi serca
Savage. Everything I've ever wanted from this etude. Amazing
it's the best play of this etude I heard! thank you!
Chopin would be proud of Bruce Lıu
I don't very often get goosebumps crawling all over my skin, but I have goosebumps crawling all over my skin!!
Cudowna muzyka genialnego Chopina, boskie wykonanie. Dziękuję.
i like that he chose the FAZIOLI ❤️

Amazing musicality
Absolutely incredible talent. Flawless interpretation.
This guy is the bruce lee of piano
The sound is infinitely clear♬
Phenomenal! Thank you Bruce. What a talent!
Phenomenal performance.
Chopin would be smiling at this
i really love the pedalling at 1:09
What technique?
@@peterp4rker472 just the right time to hold that sustain pedal
So clean and perfect!! The articulations are nasty
Not perfect. Little mis-touch in the end.
Music from a genius played by a genius.
This is insanely smashing ! Two thumbs up
Bravo bravissimo. Molto delicato. Grazioso e forte fortissimo. Felicitazioni. Ed auguri. In bocca al Lupo per il futuro.
I love the little bounces at 0:52
0:31 great voicing! Superb rendition, not a surprise he won.
best articulation i have ever listened🥰
This is so much skill that it would wake the dead !!
Bruce is a fantastic pianist and even greater showman.
Perfect harmony of strong and sensibility
Po dobrej wódzie lepszy jestem w etiudzie.
Ja jestem King Bruce Liu sonata mistrz!
he's too good
This is by far one of the most technically perfect and impressively played performances of this ive ever seen!
Omg the ending gave me chills
Watched him and others during the Chopin competition. It was so much joy. Following... ). Hope to see him in a live concert.
I broke my fingers just by watching this.
Bruce you stomped on the floor, all of my cats scurried away. That's scary man! Anyway, you grabbed my attention from that moment on. That's special, never lose the style.
1:42 love it😍
1:11 left hand just on point.
Absolutely brilliant!! ❤❤
Pure genius
absolutly speechless
Absolutely incredible. What else really needs to be said? A well deserving champion.
Masterfully played
It,s O.K,he must be theWINNER!Brilliant!
Absolutely stunning!
I like how he just move his hair so causally in the beginning.
I love how the video starts with his hair
Guys named Bruce are superb 💪🎹
Xiaoyo - you have done it again! - mesmerized us all with your magic fingers. I so admire your piano skills. Just amazing!
goosebumps everytime.
There is nothing that I do in life that is accomplished at this level.
Stunning performance, I adore it
This is the best interpretation of op. 10 no. 4, bar none. Incredible. Without any disrespect to any other performer of this etude, in comparison with this one theirs seem shallow and too crude. Every single note counts here and those chords at 1:06 are played so smoothly and flawlessly that they seem like they have been played not on piano, not with keys...
Congrats!!!!!
