A lot of genious pianists have wonderful live versions on RUclips (Hamelin included), but this one by Maestra Poon is second to none. Inspired, fun, impeccable, fiery. I especially loved how much weight she adds to the 3+2+3 rhythm around 7:00 and again at 8:00 - a lot of performers rush over it, but no her. @@marounjayden yeah, you have a point, i didn't know about the story behind this. but looking away from the meaning of the piece it sounded brilliant. I also enjoyed Hamelin's interpretation quite a bit.
I noticed that the lower end of the audio is a bit heavier in this versus many other recordings, which I find helps make this sound so colourful and emotional. Plus for that. Edit: The lack of bass is a typical feature in many piano recordings which makes them plain, clinky and hard to listen to. If you can actually hear the lower notes and not just the jarring overtones, it definitely is truer to the music. It's also actually closer to a live performance. I don't know if the upload quality ruins the bass if it isn't intentionally strong from the get go but it's not too often sufficiently present.

such graceful and controlled touch! I love this interpretation, I think it is safe to say it is my favorite.
I loved, but her little finger not grow at 6:32
GSERNAR Ultimate comment! Hahahahahahaha! :)
Only Tom can do that 😂

Oh, I Thought you meant in dynamics at first

Thank you from Hungary! This is the most Hungarian version I have listened to.
So many emotions! One of, if not the best performance I’ve seen for this piece.
Creación pianística grandiosa y maravillosa; por fin la encuentro en la versión perfecta, con cada nota nítida, y toda la obra en el tempo preciso, según imagino debe ser. ¡Bravo!
she plays beautifull , flauless and very expressive, the Fazioli has a very deep bass.
Excellent! The best performance I ever saw of this piece!!
This is a very difficult piece to play and extremely difficult to play true.
I don't know how they memorize such a long and difficult piece.
@@FoggedTears after spending a year on learning it you simply move your hands all day playing it on the table on the wall just everywhere... it's called muscle memory
@@FoggedTears Honestly, memorization isn't much of a problem for pianist. They practice it so much it naturally takes a place in muscle memory and long term memory.
Tbh, if you are familiar with the technique used in this, it will be easier for you and since the Friska almost always only use two chords you won’t have any problem with that
(I’m 14 attempting this beast, i composed exercises for myself and that helped me get through this)
Liszt was almost losing his brains the day he wrote this.
Nah, he wrote 17 more rhapsodies
I had too much.
yoshi_drinks_tea 18*
@@symphonybliss4237 Wrong, he wrote 19 rhapsodies, not 20.
yoshi_drinks_tea I think he meant other than this one not counting the first
Wow! I love the way you play this so beautifully. Flawless! Absolutely nothing could be done to improve your perfect performance. I've listened to others perform this and yours is the best by far. Bravo!
This is the very one which is the best Hungarian rhapsody no.2
It is the very best very one best no. 2
Cziffra
Esra Bilgiç senin kadar muhteşem seyleri bize önerdiğin icin teşekkür ederim 🌹
How the hell can anybody write something like this let alone play it? Blows my mind. Fabulous Tiffany
Omg your tempo is incredibly accurate I love it 😍
My favorite Hungarian Rhapsody, her polyrhythms (change of tempo / rhythms) and the way she attacks notes at certain times seem so opportune and done with so much emotion, personal touch and timing. To my ear this is the most pleasant hearing and to my heart the most touching of this so pleasing soulful piano piece.
Hello @Gilbert Legault would you mind listening to my version on my channel?
@@michieldpiano I will, thanks for letting me know you had one. I actually started before replying. There is some marked differences right away like your note length sounds shorter vs tiffany's and your cadence / speed is for now at least faster. I can't wait to hear the rest.
You said you've know this a toddler... you mean you know this song as a toddler, what age did you learn playing it? Thanks
@@gilbertlegault5462I played it by ear when I was 16. This recording recording is Inspired my life experiences. My candenza is entirely improvized. My version is for sure different and according to great connoisseurs (from concert halls, legendary pianists, etc...) the best version of today. Sorry to tell you but Poon and Lisistsa do not understand Liszt. They play what they are thought. Both recordings are not even in my top 100. RUclips is no place for genius pianists without charisma. I am releasing my first CD in March (Schubert D960 and Schumann - Kreisleriana + love lieder) and then I go into nature and forget myself.
@@michieldpiano I will write a message on your you tube version. Thanks so much for your time replying and messaging. The recordings is so different (one in a concert version and yours sounds more like studio or even home studio right?) as the "mechanics" are. This piece is genius or insanity depending on how you want to play it ;-)!
The trills are exceptionally beautiful. Well-played!
What a beautiful performance! It gave me chills! Bravo!
amazing! especially at 1:50 WOW i feel like if it was a butterfly flying or something. sucha a prodigy since young age
Agreed. A masterpiece. Both the song itself and the interpretation. I'm not sure even Litz himself could play that good.
Lord this is amazing, hopefully I'll be that good eventually
This is the best version of this piece I've ever heard...so much more graceful than Valentina's by a long shot....to think she was so young when this was recorded too! truly so inspirational and beautiful
Hello @Rachel would you mind listening to my version on my channel?
when she play at 00:00:13 i knew she is professional ... big like from Jordan
I swear, this is the most fun piece
her interpretation is my favorite
The first section of this piece, free from the rhapsodical part, is simply divine piano music at its most pure. Well played Tiffany Poon.
Love the buildup from 5:22. You go Girl! Like she was born doing this.
I love how this song starts slow, serious and rather easy, but over the time speeds and lightens up, whike simply throwing at you things you won't be able to ever play.
Im convinced Liszt was bipolar as hell.
Ask that to Schumann 😳
Probably. He's considered by many music historians to be the first modern rock star (in regards to how he behaved as a celebrity). When I was a kid, I did a report on him for history class (you know that annoying history report we always had to do for our final exam that had to be, like, thoroughly researched with at least four sources? That one. I did that one on Franz Liszt.). In my research, I came across a five volume documentary of Franz Liszt, about 500 pages per book. I read the whole thing. Liszt had some wild stories.
I totally enjoyed Ms. Poon's rendition of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C sharp Minor. She has totally inspired me to learn classical piano. I am also from Hong Kong and an Alum of Teachers College CU. Bravo!!!!
Just to reiterate - in 2019 - still the best YT HR No 2 performance! Imho.
Idola totalmente
this is the profoundest exhibition of human talent that i have ever seen. sublime perfection. there will never be a better interpretation and performance of this piece.
Amazing interpretation
My impression is that this is how Liszt heard the piece in his head when he composed it. Just brilliant.
best performance of this piece ever
Well done. There are mistakes but they don't distract me at all. The way Tiffany plays this keeps me captivated listening to it. I wish I could hear her interpretation now!
best of the best so far
Her technical ability is impressive im blown away by her finger technique and her ability to feel the music she plays as if to paint a vivid story in the mind of the listener wonderful work
so beautiful pure dedication
It is my favorite interpretation of hungarian rhapsody 2!
FOR SURE, ITS MY FAVOURITE TOO.
Valentina play's very well too !
Probably the best version .......Kudos to Tiffany!
Tiny bit slow at some parts in my taste.. but this is so expressive I like it.
Bill Kim 13 which parts?? The parts that requires Technic?... That distinguish real pianists from show-offs with no genuine knowledge or talent on how to perform this composition?
Fantastically well played! Bravo! This might be my favourite interpretation - along with one of Cziffra's early recordings. And Liszt definitely wanted it that way, otherwise he wouldn't have harmonized just the 1st, 4th and 6th notes on those downward scales. Fantastic. Thank you for the upload. And thank you to Tiffany Poon!
Hello @Gergely Kiss would you mind listening to my version on my channel?
@@michieldpiano Ohohoho! Thank you for alerting me to your performance! Astonishing! So much fun, so musical, so creative! For some reason I noticed your comment 4 months late, but I recommend your performance to everyone.
Hey Gergely, thanks so much for listening. I am just out of psychiatry and needed that. Now I have recorded my life piece Kreisleriana, it is also on RUclips but comes some time in the future on Spotify when my other recording is ready: Schubert D960.
@@michieldpiano Exciting projects! I'll check out the Schumann and keep an eye out for the Schubert. I hope you will return to Liszt some day, as well. :) I hope you are feeling okay - your playing certainly made my day quite a bit better! Thanks again for your music!
WE ARE NOT WORTHY....
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
one of the best performances I've heard as a pianist. Technique, Clarity, Power and dynamics... everything. The only thing that she needed is maturity especially at sixteen.
Maturity in what way? I think its supposed to sound playful
@@elizaneja I don't know what you mean by it sounding playful, does a demon possessing a man and making him kill his wife and children aswell ruining all his possibilities of being successful sound playful. It's a very deep piece although it may sound playful, which is why I said she needs maturity. Listen to any great pianist play it, Horowitz, Sokolov (tiffany's favourite pianist) or someone else. I'm sure if she played it today it would sound totally different.
@@marounjayden yeah, you have a point, i didn't know about the story behind this. but looking away from the meaning of the piece it sounded brilliant. I also enjoyed Hamelin's interpretation quite a bit.
@@elizaneja yeah I mean it in the best way possible. I haven't heard Hamelin's Interpretation but ill give it a listen :)
very impulsive, very good! Much emotion in the play ..
Every time I watch/listen to this it brings tears to my eyes.
One of the rare pianists who can execute the fiendishly difficult passage at 8:12 properly. Spot on performance!
I agree, a great performance of this wonderful composiiton. The quality of the piano itself enhanced the dramatic playing.
Tiffany Poon is an up and coming star, every year she reaches a greater audience. It will be delightful to follow her in her career and appreciate her wonderful talent and hard work.
Tom played this with only 4 fingers on both hands.. #JustSaying 😎
Tiffany Poon is amazing!
How many Liszt's are alive today writing masterpieces like this? Has the population been mentally and physically damaged so much as to not have the capacity to produce such great works as this?
Let's stop the poisoning and see what potential humans have.
BRAVISSIMO! I love this girl
