From the SDS this stuff looks a lot like another product I've used and if its the same stuff with your label on the side then its a A+ product. If so this stuff is used on fire hydrants, bridges, and train cars under a different label. It sticks to near everything as long as you degrease the surface really good. I like that you guys sale this stuff in pints too because it has a short shelf life once you crack the can open.
Especially for all the nooks and crannies where the paint couldn’t get to. And boxed in frames. Love wool wax and fluid film. Surprised not many people know about them
This looks exactly like what my father would call "bridge paint" from his days working for a local township. They painted bridge steel with a very similar paint, very high in zinc, and it would look good for well over a decade. The paint was only available to state and local governments due to it's ingredients.
Hey I used the rust encapsulate on my 89 Chevy K5 Blazer. I was able to spray inside the quarter panels and rockers using the long spray wand. Worked out great. I’m going to get some Platinum for the front then chassis black over it. EastWood has excellent products.
The frame on my F150 looks MUCH better in this color. My frame wasn’t covered in rust yet but I put this on to help prevent it. Time will tell if it actually works.
What can be used on a rusted (cleaned, prepped and so on) steel cooktop cover. Platinum says protects to 350 Deg F ... but then if someone puts on top coat ........ that can bun off easily from the propane flames. It would be great to make it last a while but I may have to replace the whole system.... 😞
I have black iron gates (two) and i'm noticing the black paint is starting to chip and rust is underneath. Q- Can i use the black gloss spray directly without painting on the coat if capsolator?
Overall it's a good product but I swear I like to never got the lid off the can. I practically had to destroy it to get it off .What did they put it on with ? This isn't the only problem I've had with Eastwood products either. The chassis black was a pain in the butt too. The spray nozzle clogged constantly and I had to remove it and soak it in lacquer thinner between uses as it would not clear. I've used spray cans and never seen one clog so fast or easily as this one. The stuff is expensive so I should be able to use it all. It's like their cans are designed to be used all at once and that's it. Good products but they shouldn't be this hard to use.
rubbersole Do you understand that rust is the result of “combination”? Iron (steel) rusts because it “combines” with oxygen. “Combination” is a term in chemistry....look it up. “
Will this work if applied over a coated frame not stripped down to bare metal. I think they come factory coated but starting to deteriorate. Figured I would spit wire brush then just apply over it all?
Is you internal rust calculator like a fish oil that creeps under spot weild lap joints or a cavity was that seals over the internal side of a lap joint. Or dose it dry hard or dosent have the filling properties of cavity was sealing over the lap joints. I personally use fish oil first then cavity wax about a week after painted and fish oiled. On all my classic and vintage automotive body what would you recommend all my rust repairs are cut out and done as if it was my car i was keeping for ever
Rust Encapsulator Platinum is only available in that silver color. Rust Encapsulator Plus is available in black. Standard Rust Encapsulator is available in a variety of different colors. (Sorry it took so long to hear back about this one. Must've missed it. 😅)
Can I use Rust Encapsulator or Rust Encapsulator Platinum to coat the inside of a tube, then weld and powdercoat the exterior of that tube without damaging the coating?
hi there i just took the bed and gas tank out of my truck and getting the truck frame and chassis media blasted do i need to use a epoxy primer ??or can i just use the encapsulated platinum system
If it's bare, clean rust free metal, you may want to consider Epoxy Primer. If it still has rust, Platinum would work. You can also talk to an Eastwood tech to fully explain your project to make sure you get the best products for your job. 800-343-9353
In order for me to get that smooth show room finish, in what order do I apply the products? Rust Encapsulator > Body Filler > 2k Aero-Spray? Also, should I cover the 2k Aero-Spray with Extreme Chassis Black? Final question, what kind of body filler should I use on a frame?
If you're planning on blasting the frame, you can start with epoxy primer. If you're not blasting the frame, you can use Rust Encapsulator Platinum covered in 2K Chassis Black.
I had new floorpan welded in and regular primer was sprayed on to not rust I'm in Michigan winter's are brutal what products would suggest use l don't want to remove all that primer when it gets warmer what's your advice
I'm rebuilding a 72 Plymouth duster on my channel.. does this work on body panels when stripped down to bare metal. or do you offer other products for those panels..
Unlike most rust paints, Platinum will adhere very well to bare metal, but the best product would be Epoxy Primer. Here it is: www.eastwood.com/paints/automotive-finishes/primers/epoxy.html But if you have rusty areas, I highly recommend Rust Encapsulator Platinum. The durability is incredible. It's also great for pitted areas. So if you sand the metal and it's bare, but there are pits, the rust is likely still in the pits. You can apply Platinum, and then sand it. It will remain in the pits and stop the rust. You can then apply your next coating, like Epoxy Primer.
I bought your regular rust encapsulator and I sprayed it on my truck bed, I have a 2 part epoxy bedliner I want to spray over that with that cause any issues for me or am I good to go?
Eastwood sell a rubberised version for underwood but if you want the best underwood protection then use Raptor products. I'm sure Eastwood would have something similar, go check out their RUclips video page or website.
It beat it in independent lab testing. We show the results in a few of our videos and on our web site here: www.eastwood.com/eastwood-rust-encapsulator-platinum.html
Matthew Shambler It is Rust Bullet in a Eastwood can. It beats POR 15 hands down. Been using both for 10 years and Rust Bullet is so much easier to work with. It can be topcoated with anything. I get it from Summit Racing.

Triot my thoughts too
My opinion - Once the top coat has cured, coat the steel in Fluid Film for ultimate rust prevention.

Updates on the staying power of the paint? Have a rusty POS I want to restore.
@@Beowulf627 any luck with how you covered the rust?
i just painted my frame with the platinum and i couldnt believe it stuck to bare metal,my frame repairs look even better
Yup! As long as you prep it correctly platinum will stick to paint, rust or bare metal!
The frame on my F150 looks MUCH better in this color. My frame wasn’t covered in rust yet but I put this on to help prevent it. Time will tell if it actually works.
Hey how'd it go
Answered all my questions, thanks!
Love this stuff, it’s crazy strong
Years to come, years to come, years to come.

What about using a rust converter product, after the wire wheel action, and before the encapsulate?
I wonder whats better, this or POR 15
how much of this to cover a ram 1500 frame
Can I bondo over rust encapsulator then spray epoxy primer over that

Use 2 self tapping screws to puncture 2 holes on the lid, pour out what you need then put the screws back in the holes to seal it up again.
Sow you can apply body filler on top
If the metal's clean. I've heard encapsulating rust will accelerate it's spread.

Yes but only for rubberized encapsulates
Great Product! Thinking of trying this underneath my F150

Can I use Rust Encapsulator or Rust Encapsulator Platinum to coat the inside of a tube, then weld and powdercoat the exterior of that tube without damaging the coating?
It will burn off around the weld bead with that extreme heat.
Would a gallon of this be enough for 2 coats for a single cab short bed Chevy pickup?
A gallon covers 384 square feet.
How long before it cures and I'm able to spray top coat ?
Right from the instruction manual. 👍
"If top coating: apply top coat after 4 hrs., or before 48 hrs."

Will this work on galvanized metals?
Chuck12 - It sticks to anything you put it on.

Yes, it can be top coated with epoxy primer. You do not have to apply epoxy primer prior to a 2K coating.

Can we all maybe agree that this is basically the same as just using rustoleum
I hope not. I used rustoleum reformer and paint on an Explorer and lots of the rust is back after two winters in the salt.
Seems better than por15

too bad it doesnt come in spray cans with ample amount of hose , to be sprayed for the insides of Frame Rails
Like this: www.eastwood.com/eastwood-internal-frame-coating-14oz-aerosol.html
How does this compare to POR-15?
It's one of the competitor's in the test panels, so Platinum beat in in the Salt Spray Testing.
I’m thinking Rust Bullet perhaps? It’s great stuff, that I can tell you.

Is the Rust Encapsulator Platinum a zinc rich paint (aka cold galvanizing)?
It does NOT contain zinc.
Awesome
go to 3;39 to start
Me spray one whole can inside one hole. 😂🤣🤣. I'm a little over kill hahahha
can you apply body filler over the top of it? or should filler always got DTM?
Fanelli Restorations you can apply body filler over it if you scuff it with grey scotch bright pad.
Fluid Film is cheaper and just as good, plus there is less prep involved. I will pass on this.
Not true.
Fluid film has to be reapplied every 6 months and will also wash off.
Doesn't work, I followed directions and rust came back thru in 3 weeks.

what did you use to thin it for your paint gun?? what size tip?

Too bad your company can’t get the ordering system to work!!!
Is rust encapsulator better than chassis saver and is it breathable?
Platinum has beat every rust coating we have tested it against.
POR15 clone👌🏼

Will it work with a sandblasted frame
