@@ConstitutionallyProtectedMedia Yes, perhaps the devil is just a scapegoat for our worst crimes. That would make Satan literally the representative of human evil.
This episode is a godsend for humanity. The creator commentary reveals this episode has very little exaggeration, as in how people use gambling addiction to make money for their companies, exploiting weaknesses and whatnot. The Canadians pitching the Freemium game to Terrance and Phillip in the episode was really close to how a lot of different people tried to pitch a Freemium South Park mobile game to Matt and Trey in real life. They were pretty disgusted with how some of these cronies had no problems taking money from the mentally weak. So, Matt and Trey did their own research on the matter and it turned into episode, their favorite one of that season. It's insane how disgusting people can be when money enters the equation... Great episode!!!
Yeah, these companies hire psychologists etc. to research how to best exploit human nature. All the big companies do it but with the devil tie-in this episode could have been copy pasted onto the fall of Blizzard, since becoming Activision Blizzard. When it comes to this stuff Bobby Kotick is basically the devil.
This was a horrible episode to recommend at this time. Did y’all see his reaction to Randy saying he makes music? Did you see how he had zero idea what he was referencing, Bc for some reason y’all keep recommending random episodes from seasons with LINEAR STORY LINES. So now the lorde Randy thing is just thrown at him randomly and it pretty much ruins the episodes that came before this one in that season. I really wish he had just done the show in order honestly Bc the fans get to choose which ones he does and they suck at it. They pick ones where it’s full of references to episodes he hasn’t seen, or they just try so hard to have all the craziest most insane and gross episodes off the bat that eventually every episode is gonna seem tame and boring by comparison Bc y’all blew your loads with the first ten reactions. I really don’t understand why anyone who recommended this episode before the ones that explain the Randy lorde thing. This season has linear elements but you can watch the episodes individually for the most part. But there’s at the very least one season that is directly linear, it will not make sense if you watch it out of order and I’m honestly expecting that season to start getting recommended Bc people seem to not put any thought into what actually like makes sense for him to watch. They have him go from like a season 3 episode where tweek and Craig are gonna fight, then they skip to episodes where they’re already a gay couple
Season 18 onward the series became serialized, with entire arcs across the seasons. Randy being a singer and his gluten free beer starts in S18E2 and S18E3.
To be more precise I would say they started experimenting with serialisation from Season 18. Some details followed in others episodes but there weren't really a plot until the few final episodes that didn't felt much different than any trilogy episodes before. Season 19 we had the theme of the town of South Park taking a left turn but then again, not much of a plot until the few final episodes. Probably because they changed idea about what to do with Pc Principal. Season 20 is the real first (and last) serialized season with a plot from start to the end but the result of the elections took them by surprise and screwed their plans. Season 21 we are back to the original format, except for the relationship of Cartman with Heidi that would evolve through the season.
I think one of the funniest things about South Park is that the Devil is not really evil. The most evil characters are Cartman, Nathan, Mickey Mouse, and Saddam Hussein.

This reminds me of a speech I heard about 20 years ago from a former snack food executive trying to get school lunch dietary standards changed. After explaining that 80% of revenue comes from a small percentage of customers who eat a bag or more of chips a day, he said: “I quit my seven figure position when I learned my salary came from convincing 300 pound customers that they’d be happier at 400 pounds so long as they got there with our products.”
That episode actually helped me to realize how weak I am to freemium games myself. Without even noticing anything, I spent lots of money on it frequently even though it wasn't that great to begin with. But I just couldn't stop playing because I always wanted more and get all the best deals. I'm really grateful Matt and Trey discussed this topic in great detail.
One of the reasons I love your reactions is because I forgotten a lot of the episodes. And you're reminding me of the best ones. South Park and Archer are my go-to's when I just need to laugh
@@dash.reacts Let's geauxxx. I would be completely okay with you doing SP and Archer. Archer is secretly the randomly super intelligent show Rick and Morty wants to be.
It's actually scary how accurate this episode is, it's not just freemium games, it's pretty much most games nowadays where they have casino mechanics to get you literally hooked and kids play these games. It can really do serious harm to a child, which is what this episode was trying to portray. There is a youtuber; jimquisition. Where he has taken interviews from gambling addicts who were trying to escape their destructive ways by gaming and when shit like lootboxes game into play, a lot of people got sucked back in. It really is horrible. The companies know what they are doing, but the money is so good no one gives two shits.
I LOVE the scene with Satan. Great episode. On the commentary Trey and Matt revealed that this came about because they were proposed to make a freemium game and they thought it was weird that the app developers didn't care that the game was completely lame and the app developers thought it was weird that they did care. The T&P game in this episode is based, of course, on the Family Guy freemium game.
"From his music, I thought he's a geologist" That's from after the Episodes where it was revealed that he's actually the female british singer Lorde, which he became to be able to enter the womans bathroom at work
This is my favorite episode! :) How Satan explains addiction..damn that's like the best way ever to explain addiction short and clear, and should be taught in schools everywhere! My all time favorite South Park moment! :) I really enjoy your reactions, btw!

This is such an educational episode and everything it says about ‘free’ games is so accurate. Some ‘free’ games are far worse than others. Base building games are the worst of the worst, in my personal opinion because for one they are super competitive and you basically need to pay for things to stay relatively strong in order to have fun. There are a few freemium games that I still play that I’ve spent almost no money playing nor did I ever feel the need to spend money on.

Best (worst) part of all of this is that South Park released a mobile game like a year after this (South Park Phone Destroyer) It was "freemium" and *extremely* predatory in its monetization. Pay a little more, pay a little more, pay a little more... Buy this pack, buy this offer, buy buy buy. Essentially everything they complain over in this episode, was in that game.
that Satan giving science lessons scene makes tons of sense since Lucifer means Bringer of Light as in bringer of knowledge and wisdom. subtle but very strong detail on SP's part.
The Canada episodes are (in my opinion)the worst of South Park,is just fart jokes(that maybe can be funny 4 or 5 times)but in the Canada episodes all are fart jokes
I spent maybe $15 in Fallout Shelter. To get nuka quantum bottles, or something like that, to speed how fast people would return from missions. It was really dumb when I think about it, but I did enjoy the game. I just got too caught up.
Season 18, episode 3 THE CISSY. It will fill you in with Randy PLUS have the absolute sweetest scene EVER in South Park history imho! Honestly a good episode but I don't know if living in Japan they went insane over who can use which public bathroom?
It's definitely a bad thing not only for taking advantage of people's impulses but for the videogame sector too. These things don't cost that much to make but absolutely rakes in the dough, inspiring other companies to put less effort into their own works so they can chase profits as well.
Love your channel because I feel I get to rewatch some old episodes. My freemium game is called Hero Wars. I have never paid a cent but others have spent over 10 grand already. Nobody ever shares how much they have actually spent.
as someone working in the games industry, I can tell you that this episode is 100% accurate, especially for mobile game companies. Skinner boxes and all these mentioned mechanics manipulating your dopamine levels are 100% things that go into designing reward pacing in games. They have even been part of games before there were microtransactions though. I think one of the first companies to lean real heavy on the psychological aspects of what binds a player to your game for as much time as possible where Blizzard. I know they worked close with psychologists for some time to be more effecient in making their games more addictive. I heard about that from colleagues around the time World of Warcraft came out. But they figured out the general formala way before that. The first Diablo game was initially quite different from what they released in the end. At some point during pre-production they had the first looting mechanics in the game and realized that some employees stayed in the office after hours because the simple act of clicking on enemies, killing them and receiving random loot was so addicting that they just forgot about looking at the clock and calling it a day. That's when they decided to make it a major part of the game design. And as a gamer with a proneness to addictive behavior myself I have spent thousands of dollars in mobile games for years. The first one was a game call Marvel: War of Heroes. A trading card game where people actually sold the trading card in third party forums and they got real price at some point. In the course of less than a year I spent around 2-3 thousand euros at least (though I wrote it off in my tax report and got some back :D). I knew some people during taht time that spent 10 times the amount on the game. I've never spent THIS much again on a freemium game but a couple hundred at least on games like Hearthstone, AFK Arena and some other, smaller games.
A little fact about wine tasting Randy, you have the option to spit the wine into a cup if you dont want to actually get drunk. You sip it into your mouth, get a taste for it, then spit it into a collection cup you pour out at the end. My aunt does it and that's how she described it the way she does it, you can do it many ways. That's not how a chemical imbalance in your brain works. I will just give my personal example there are quite a few. I did alot of drugs and drank a bunch of beer for about 10 years. After I decided to quit my brain was way out of whack and I needed to restore balance to my serotonin and norepinephrine levels which control a chemical called dopamine being sent through my brain which control me receiving pleasure through things I enjoy doing mainly being happy. I ended up taking medication for about 2 years that balanced me back out by creating the process for me so my brain could be programmed how to properly function again. While it will take more time for my brain to naturally produce dopamine it's own thr way its meant to be I actually feel much better than I did before I started my medication and enjoy activities I lost interest in such as playing my guitar and spending time with my family. For those who feel this way now, the drug I take is called Lexapro it is an anti depressant. You need to take 20mg at first and it will make you extremely sleepy and fuzzy for a couple of weeks. After you begin feeling better, you need to drop it down to 10 then 5. It will take a couple years to ween yourself off entirely if you stop cold turkey you will risk suicidal thoughts and actions so please be careful if you quit or run out. Hope this helps whoever feels this way and doesnt know what's going on it took me years👍
Even now Apps are doing this.. 😅 If I don't use an app, they keep sending notifications like you forgot to order this, or don't miss your next order.... Every week. 😂
Freemium is very predatory and I think the points they made in this episode aren't even exaggarated. That being said, my favorite mobile freemium game is Epic Seven, which I spent WAY too much money on
You should do "The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers." Season 6, Episode 13. It's a hilarious parody of (obviously) The Lord of the Rings movies.
That "you, in a tuxedo fucking this hot girl, drink drink drink" is so on point. I tried to teach my kid how to recognize when ads are doing this to him trying to play with his ego etc
2:20 My fav freemium game, WARFRAME. (I am constantly fighting the urge to spend 20 more bucks on Platinum, but also want my Fashionframe to be on point!)
The reference to him making songs is because randy was secretly a famous girl singer (won’t spoil who) and they found out go watch that episode lmao sorry you’ll have to look it up
Proud to say that I've never fallen for the Freemium tactics. Only times I've ever paid for a mobile game was to either get a big ass game like Wreckfest or paid to get rid of ads. Yeah I still gave some money but it's a one and done. Not like other who pay for in-game currency or pay to skip wait times to keep playing.
The closest thing to a Freemium game that I ever played was Yugioh Online. And to be fair, the only things I bought were the booster packs because the way I saw it, the online game was basically doing the exact same thing we did in real life. I never bought any of the costumes or decor or any of that frivolous crap because it did nothing to bolster the strength of my deck. And keep in mind, I basically tried putting it off buying booster packs and structure decks for as long as I possibly could, so I was stuck with a bunch of crappy cards to work with. And I still won with said crappy cards.
Hi Dash, great reaction as always! I would like to recommend you episodes 7 & 8 from season 15 "You're getting older" and "A$$ burgers" (they are interconnected). It was "freemium" and *extremely* predatory in its monetization.
Its me, Belzeboot! Its time to watch the other canadian episodes buddy! you wont regret it pal!
He's not your buddy, friend!
@@marchewa1999 he's not your friend, guy!
The Canada episodes are (in my opinion)the worst of South Park,is just fart jokes(that maybe can be funny 4 or 5 times)but in the Canada episodes all are fart jokes
the "with my Music" is a reference to another episode where it turns out that Randy is secretly the musician Lorde.
I spent maybe $15 in Fallout Shelter. To get nuka quantum bottles, or something like that, to speed how fast people would return from missions. It was really dumb when I think about it, but I did enjoy the game. I just got too caught up.
congrats on almost 15k
much deserved
I truly appreciate that! Thank you 🙏
Season 18, episode 3 THE CISSY. It will fill you in with Randy PLUS have the absolute sweetest scene EVER in South Park history imho!
Honestly a good episode but I don't know if living in Japan they went insane over who can use which public bathroom?
3:00 lmao the wheels started churning in dashs head. started scheming.
That's basically Raid Shadow Legends system scam right here
Ome time, when my little brother was six, he spend 700 dollars on Dragon City gems, and my mom was furious. But she returned it and got her money back
The whistle is a nod to old school college bars, where someone has to blow one after a drinking game to prove they finished it all.
2:35 there's an episode where Randy is lorde. See "The Cissy" S18E03
Soon as it uploaded I had to watch. Good stuff man! Love your reactions.
The fact that I received an ad for a freemium game right after the explanation of freemium games is crazy
"From his music"? Oh boy. You got some great episodes to watch.
i was watching a vid you posted like 5 months ago then i watched this one and ur physique has improved a lot bro good stuff 💪💯
The gambling industry relies on the problem gamblers it creates to fund it. In the UK 85% of gambling deposits are from 2% of the customers.
It's definitely a bad thing not only for taking advantage of people's impulses but for the videogame sector too.
These things don't cost that much to make but absolutely rakes in the dough, inspiring other companies to put less effort into their own works so they can chase profits as well.
I remember the first time I heard "Beelzaboot" I laughed so damn hard, I couldn't catch my breath. 🤣😂
"Whose not trying to fill a fucking hole" best line ever.
2:24 Pokémon go.
Yea I can earn my poke coins by holding gyms for awhile
The only mobile games I really play are BB Tan, doodle jump (yes I'm stuck in 2012), and sometimes Scrabble and Wordscapes. Never paid for an app.
We need to tell him to watch Randy's Lorde episodes.
Its not bad but not good
2:31 he is a geologist but also he is famous singer song writer Lorde, yeah yeah yeah.
Love your channel because I feel I get to rewatch some old episodes. My freemium game is called Hero Wars. I have never paid a cent but others have spent over 10 grand already. Nobody ever shares how much they have actually spent.
MIUM ACTUALLY MEANS NOT REALLY, ITS NOT JUST A JOKE 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
7:24 Back then these apps used to override your notification sound settings.
The board game Stan and Grampa play at the end is called Zombies!!! and it is really fun.
Great video. My favorite thing that’s Terrance & Phillip related is Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
That was fun. Another episode I didn't even know about. And of all Randy's foibles they only used drinking? They could have gone anywhere!
as someone working in the games industry, I can tell you that this episode is 100% accurate, especially for mobile game companies.
Every week. 😂
Aaahhh you absolutely legend that you reacted to this episode
You’re an absolute legend for recommending it. Thank you!! 🙏
@@dash.reacts well I have one more recommendations for you, its my favourite episode its the episode, cock magic!!😊
They were playing Zombicide - which is its own sort of addiction to keep up with ;)
I do have a REALLY guilty pleasure freemium game... Genshin Impact. Spent like 200 bucks on that game...
Freemium is very predatory and I think the points they made in this episode aren't even exaggarated.
That being said, my favorite mobile freemium game is Epic Seven, which I spent WAY too much money on
I agree with you, South Park devil is an awesome teacher! And I love your shirt!
That geologist, sir, is none other than LORDE
there was a subplot that seaosn of randy being lorde (yes the that lord, the young female music artist)
The South Park Satan is such a good person in every Episode (or Movie) he shows up. You just have to love this wholesome guy 😁🤗
I found this episode ironic because i used to absolutely live on one of south parks own freemium games: phone destroyer 🤣
The reference to him making songs is because randy was secretly a famous girl singer (won’t spoil who) and they found out go watch that episode lmao sorry you’ll have to look it up
If you want to find out about Randy's music career, watch the episode 'The Cissy' (s18 ep3 according to imdb).
Randy is secretly Lorde. That explains his music career he's talking about.
Oh.. Randy's music is part of a whole plot of another good episode "The Cissy" is what it's called
For christmas you could react to the episode "Mr Hankeys Christmas Classics", which probably is my favorite south park Christmas episode
This season was where Stan found out Randy was Lorde. That music
Does Japan have a “sipping sprint” you get to attend 🤣
Whatching this and getting a freemium game app ad lol 😂
To learn about Randy's music career that was mentioned in this episode check out season 18 episode 3 The Cissy
You should watch the ginger kids episode it’s from season 9 episode 11
Hi Dash, great reaction as always!
I would like to recommend you episodes 7 & 8 from season 15 "You're getting older" and "A$$ burgers" (they are interconnected). They are also centered around Stan and his family. To me, it brings up deep meanings along with typical South Park humor. You will definitely like it!
