It's not just abortions that seem controversial. I had a period that lasted 43 days and was heavy. I couldn't walk, I was paler than a sheet of notebook paper, and I had gone through a 6 months supply of pads.
One doctor told me to "grow up" and all periods are like that. He wasn't even the doctor I was seeing. He just saw me go in, eavesdropped, and came in to give his 2 cents. My actual doctor knew me well and got me an appointment with OBGYN he trusted from a different hospital.
While I was nervous that my OBGYN was a man, he had gotten a heads-up about me and brought in 2 female nurses (one was finishing her certification to be an official Doctor and became my new doctor) that kept me comfortable. After talking with colleagues, we agreed the pill worked best for me and prescribed one with the least side effects. I was passed on to the new doctor for my next appointment 5 months later and we decided it worked for me.
But that didn't stop others for questioning me, an asexual woman, why I needed to be on the pill if I don't plan on having sex, let alone kids. They would talk about how maybe I was sleeping around or maybe I was on them to get high. (What?)
I try to explain, but they didn't understand. A nurse we work with (nursing home) asked them, "Why do you take pain killers? The pain will go away on its own." That shut them up and others who had seen me before the pill agree that I did what was best for me and my reproductive health is not their concern.
One girl came up to me to ask for advice on getting on the pill after that. I told her that was between her and her doctor, but it is her choice. Some get the IUD, some get the arm implant, or even the shot. The pill worked for me, but something else might be better for her.
A month later, she thanked me and she got the implant after a long talk with her doctor. She had been uncertain about it as she, herself was asexual and her cycles were getting bad. But after hearing my story, she had the courage to go.

11:16 Roe V Wade doesn't cover procedures done to insure the safety of a person, it only wants to stop unnecessarily killing a fetus when there is no physical drawbacks to the mother. Like say a person finds out they are pregnant and they are physically capable of safely birthing the baby, but they decide to get rid of it, if the fetus has a heartbeat, then that's murdering a child. But if a woman gets pregnant, and there's a chance of her being in danger because of it because her body can't handle it and it might be a life or death situation, then the bill allows you to terminate because though it's killing a life, it's to save someone else: the mother. It especially wouldn't deny you help if you have something inside you that isn't a baby and never will become a baby, something that will only cause you pain and suffering and never amount to anything good such as a new person. I understand her fear about not being able to get help, but everyone should know there was never a cause for worry, because there's nothing wrong with getting a termination if all it's getting rid of is a jumble of cells and blood that's causing you agony. Pro-life people, or most of them ( there are always exceptions that love to give PL as a whole, a bad rep ) wouldn't want anyone to nearly die while having a baby, or suffer because of a growth that needs to come out, they only want baby's that can be saved, to be born, and the procedure that Illy got, had nothing to do with killing, only saving her.
Also theres a lot of misinformation out there, and main stream media likes to twist stories and laws out of proportion, they want you to think that I'm wrong and the bill is bad, I'm sure some of them were true, but I'm certain most of those articles she showed aren't actually what they're chalked up to be, and that's wrong, spreading fear and convincing people that they won't be allowed help, this whole issue has been blown way out of preportion 💔

I'm a pro-life Catholic that got really interested in this topic after Illy posted this video and I did some research. After watching your video here, this is now the third time I saw Illy's video in full. I think Illy saying that abortion is legally defined as "a procedure to remove unwanted tissue from inside the uterus" may not be entirely accurate even in California. I can't tell how much research into the legal language surrounding abortion Illy did, but I looked up a few things. Most of the legal info I found was on the site FindLaw. California seems to define a legal abortion as "any medical treatment intended to induce the termination of a pregnancy [like RUclips says] except for the purpose of producing a live birth." I didn't find the definition of abortion Illy gave anywhere I looked.
For Texas and Alabama, abortion is still pretty much banned even in cases of rape or incest, but is legal in cases where the life of the mother is at risk if the doctor determines a pregnancy is high risk such as with ectopic tubal pregnancies. As you mentioned at the end though, there are complications such as when a doctor isn't sure if ending a life threatening pregnancy is legal.
I looked up Florida just to respond to this video, and it seems Florida is slightly less restrictive in a few ways. It appears abortion in Florida is generally illegal after 6 weeks, but is legal if (A) two (not one) physicians say an abortion is the only option to preserve the mother's life, (B) a pregnancy is the result of rape, incest or human traffiking and the mother has an official document proving it (a restraining order, a police report, a medical record, etc.), in which case abortion is legal up to 15 weeks or (C) a fatal fetal abnormality is detected in the fetus [(which I call a baby)] prior to the third trimester and two physicians certify there is such an abnormality. I take the third point as ensuring the proper handling of a miscarriage is legal in Florida.
Regardless of state laws though, I believe what Illy really had in the practical sense is a myomectomy, a procedure to remove benign uterine tumors that I'm pretty sure is legal nationwide. I checked Texas specifically and found they for sure do myomectomies. Illy's life would be safe if she was in Texas or Alabama (and I'd happily support a lawsuit otherwise, I wouldn't be legitimately pro-life if I wasn't pro-women's-lives). Personally, I believe early delivery via induced labor or C-section is a valid alternative that preserves the life of the unborn child. I've seen a few articles of babies surviving early delivery as early as 21 weeks of gestation. There's a low chance of survival that early on, but hopefully artificial womb or other medical technology will one day make what I consider abortion to be, "the direct killing of a potential human life," obsolete.
What I'm curious about though, is (1) why Illy's mom, a labor and delivery nurse, told Illy to go to Planned Parenthood rather than the emergency room given how much bleeding she'd been going through (maybe there's a doctor shortage issue in California) and (2) where she got her definition of abortion (maybe Planned Parenthood...). As a pro-lifer, between watching the movie Unplanned that tells Abby Johnson's story of her experience with Planned Parenthood as a former director of one of their facilities that later shut down and listening to pro-life Catholics on the radio and through podcasts, I get the impression Planned Parenthood is more concerned with doing business than with women's health and that they often misinform people to advance their stance on abortion. For example, they wouldn't want you to know the abortion pill they've been pushing recently can get women killed if they bleed too much, and that the consequences are fatal for sure if the woman doesn't know she has an ectopic pregnancy. I hope Illy and her mom seek out more information, I fear they could both be misinformed...
What hurts the most is that Illy said at the very end that pro-life people care about "an organ's ability to produce children," but not her life... It's no secret that abortion is a divisive issue that makes people's blood boil, but how could she say that? *Of course I care about Illy's life*, why would I research what the law says about abortion and women's health procedures like myomectomies while thinking about Illy's video for the past 10+ days if I didn't? I understand people want abortion to be a human right because not having abortion access is one less choice women can make about their reproductive health, but I firmly believe that early delivery that tries to preserve the baby's life is a morally valid alternative with fewer side effects and that if you peel back all the layers and see abortion for what it really is (by that I mean actual abortion, not true essential women's health procedures like uterine tumor removal), abortion is one of the worst choices anyone could make.
To summarize everything, I'm glad Illy is ok and that she got the procedure she needed, but she could have gotten the care she needed in Texas or Alabama too, and I fear she and her mom are misinformed. As for actual abortion, with the right technology, I think we can make abortion obsolete in that no unborn child has to die and no woman has to fear death from reproductive health complications, nor do unborn children need to be dehumanized to make abortion more socially acceptable. For now, it's fair to allow abortion when the life of the mother is at risk, but I don't want the lives of unborn babies to be undervalued. I'd also like to add that I wish more people practiced chastity and honored and respected women's bodies so abortions and unwanted pregnancies would be less common.

You didn't do proper reasearch, D&C is another option to her problem and it's suggested when someone is in risk of bleeding too much because myomectomy has that risk of great blood flow, D&C is the main procedure for an abortion and thus can get banned.
