    Great Video! I don't think people realize how much work it takes to cut a video like that. So thank you!
    I bought the UDR & ran it for months without bothering with the traxxas app. Once I hooked the app up, it made it 10x more fun to run. Shows speed, can turn lights on/off etc etc. Yes its minor, but still very cool.
    We have over 80 RCs but the UDR is my son's go to every weekend. I feel its more of a flat terrain/ track rc & really not for bashing cause yes it is a pain in the ass to work on lol!
    I haven't bought a Mojave because I feel we have plenty of the same chassis's with having almost every Arrma RC (kratons, outcasts, notorious, typhon, talion). Yes they are all a lil different but stil the same.
    If your an RC enthusiasts/collector, you gotta own a UDR or atleast run one experiencing the app.
    Thx again for your videos.

      I like the Mojave much more than the UDR, but I get why the UDR is so expensive. There is so much more that goes into producing it.
      I've been crazy busy with work and haven't been paying attention so I didn't realize the UDR went up $100. It was already $80 more than the Mojave before and I planned on picking one up (it's just so beautiful to look at, gotta admit), but not if it went up by $100. I don't think I could justify that one.

      You can’t drive the UDR the same way you drive the Mojave. The UDR is built more like a real truck, you wouldn’t take corners that fast in a real truck. Slow down!!!

The comparisons you made on both of these models was spot on ….and it definitely gave potential buyers a solid representation of both vehicles plus/minus features…. Gr8 job!! Great comparison and I do think if you did either of two things it might just flip the result:
    1) stiffen the front (damper oil, springs, or swaybar) on the UDR so it doesn’t roll so easily. The rear limiting straps could also accommodate specific limits if one was motivated enough.
    2) take both trucks to a beach with deep dry sand loaded with human footprint woops and see which one’s rear suspension soaks it up vs bottoming out and bouncing around
    The salient point is the UDR can be adjusted to be far more competent on the test surfaces used here.
    The other truck’s rear suspension is limited by design and can’t achieve the UDR’s rear travel with any amount or extent of adjustments, for other surfaces requiring it, which are admittedly on the rare end of occasional.
    Thanks for the vid 👏👏

    Very well-done video, thank you for putting this together! I watched several comparison vids before this one, but yours is a true comparison. Instead of just running them head-to-head, you compared the internals and that really helps when trying to decide between the two. The Mojave is a great performer but I'm really stuck on the scale look of the UDR.. Will mostly likely opt for the Traxxas!

    Also great explanation on what more to "Scale" means. I'm new to RCs but I thought they always meant scaling as in 1/7, 1/8, 1/10... so I always asked my self why do they say "more scaled" if they are both 1/7 haha. Thanks for clearing that up!

    Straight axle compared to independent suspension🤔. Independent is going to outperform a straight axle every time especially in cornering!!! Jumping straight axle if it’s straight on 👌. A little off it’s going to roll back n forth making the handling difficult. Looks of the straight axle is awesome but looks don’t buy dinner, winning the race does!!!
    BTW love both trucks but would definitely pick the Mojave!!!

  • @LtZerge
    @LtZerge 3 года назад +5

    These are tough because the TT/DT/Score style chassis never really managed to reach a mainstream standard like what we get with the RC SCTs which are all currently buggy based. It ends up being very apple and orange. Even within that class, comparing say a UDR and Losi Baja rey would be hard because they differ so much in power and size class. The regular Baja Rey would be too small and the Super would be too big. However that comparison does work better mechanically, since they're all going for the scale design. We also lost the Yeti Score many years ago which might have had promise as a competitor, but alas. It's just a weird space.
    Good job with the testing. Very informative. Results end up being pretty predictable just from looking at their chassis design. The UDR is vastly more top heavy, has so much travel, and the 2075 RTR servo that can't keep up with its own TSM. The LCG buggy pan design is near universal for a reason here, it just works well, even if it doesn't capture the magic of seeing a mini version of the real trucks. Great technical handling especially on a surface that is at least mostly flat. Most RC tracks are designed around that.
    Finding a good place for the UDR to shine takes work, like the real thing it wants long straights and sections of woops/jumps with banked corners to cut down on chassis roll. With my Baja Rey I have to go to big dirt lots and there's a mountain bike park that does well with it. On the local RC track it's very hard to drive.

    Good vid. Subbed! I think the UDR flipping problem is more a driver, and a terrain problem. Not saying you are a bad driver, I just think it needs to be driven to scale... everything you do with the UDR needs to be to scale.
    If you watch a lot of these in real life, you see the body roll and what the drivers do to manage it. It's amazing to watch!

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 года назад +1

      True that, scale requires scale driving. However, this was a test between the two cars for overall capability, not scale realism. I'm glad you caught that. Thanks for commenting. 😎👍

      No the two tyres sitting way up high on the rear of car completely ruins handling .. put two big wheels on the Mojave back deck and I bet it would roll over all the time as well.

      I'd order a set of 6lug 17mm hex kit from M2C. They will keep you from stripping yr hex inside the plastic rim. I stripped mine once I went to full power. It's the best upgrade for the Mojave and should be done before running for the first time.

    Hi ,which truck would you recommend for sand dunes .

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 года назад +1

      Wow, that's a tough one because so many will work in that environment. The key is setup. The space available is also a consideration. If you're looking for an 1/8th scale rig most of the bashers on the market will serve just fine with a simple tire change and a diff setup for your driving style: Kraton 6s, Talion with bigger, wider tires, and the Sledge, are just a few that come to mind. If you want bigger, then the DBXL-E 2.0 or the Kraton 8s will serve; even the Xmaxx will rock the dunes. Keep in mind, and I say this again, MOST of the RC's on the market today will run well in the sand. If performance is a thing, the two I mentioned for the large scale trucks, the Losi, the Arrma, and the Traxxas, are all great choices if they are setup properly. That said, you have to choose, because style matters. I would pick one that turns you on and then see if the options are available to set it up for dune driving; paddle tires and so forth. For 1/10th scale I would take the Lasernut with the sand mods on it: wider tires with lower profile, remove the rear spare tire and install a wing for stability in flight over those big peaks, and thicker fluid in the center diff to get that hole shot. (This is a small comment to answer a big question). I hope it helps. AJ

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 года назад

      Both are good choices. The stock stuff for the RTR is still really fast, doesn't seem to overheat, and is easy to come by. The 2250kv I use is a motor I happened to have in the studio (I can't remember where I got it) and so I installed it to save the cost of buying another 2050kv for the video. We try and keep things as close to stock as possible (at least for the drivetrain, we upgrade the car itself to make it stronger and more durable) so the viewers know what they can expect when they buy one. Still, 2250kv runs out great and is just a tiny bit faster than the 2050kv that came in the RTR; which we have. That being said, it really comes down to cost. The 1650kv is torquier than the 2250kv and thus needs a larger pinion to attain the same basic speeds. I don't think you can go wrong with either setup. I know this is kind of a non-answer, but your selections are both really good. I hope this helps. 😎👍

    I think when you get down to it the UDR handling just like a IRL trophy truck is what does it in. Those things aren't easy to drive. At speed you can park it upside down in a Mexican cactus so easy even the pros who run the Baja 500 and 1000 annually wreck out consistently

  • @jgrc73
    @jgrc73 2 месяца назад +1

    Love your intelligent presentation style. I always struggle with any vehicle being called scale when they have electric power plants and the acceleration is beyond unrealistic as is the top speed. I think the only possible scale vehicle that truly would act like a real vehicle is a two-stroke. I have the DBXL gas and I've been struck by how utterly realistic it is, when driving. Doesn't have a driver has an air filter. Looks like real desert buggy to me, but im no expert.
    but yeah trophy trucks don't go 250-300 they go about 120 tops, it's not a Formula One car or a Bugatti Veyron it's a desert race truck.
    In conclusion the UDR and every other scale vehicle is not scale because it's unrealistic. The handling might be realistic ish, but it is needlessly complicated overpowered to the point of being nothing like the real thing, hard to work on and at the end of the day it's still an electric car still RC still a toy. The word scale is used often to separate people from their money.
    On the other hand if I was a trophy truck fan I would look the other way since it's the closest thing you can buy to the real thing and still drive in your yard.
    stumbled on your video today after ordering the Mojave 7 on sale, not a bad day at all

    The more scale realism you design in cars like these the more attention to scale you have to operate them. I've observed that very few comparison videos key in on these key facts. The udr is not a basher and if you're looking for scale realism the mojave falls short. Apple's and oranges. I might.add that I own a udr and a losi baja raptor rey. Both scale cars. I try and remember to slow down and enjoy the view when I run them. If I need something to pick up the pace, be capable and durable, I pull out my slash which is just a smaller version of the mojave but similar in function and fun.

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 года назад

      Brilliant observation. This is true, we sometimes forget scale when we run these cars. However, AJ knows one is scale and the other is not, but many people kept asking for the comparison, so we obliged. Keying in on the basher end of things was the most useful for our local group since they all bash and none of them are into scale. Still, You are absolutely correct, slow down and observe, that's the only way to get that effect. Thanks for reminding us that scale matters. 😎👍

    Traxxas udr 1/5 o Losi 1/5 dbx-e 2.0? Cuál es el mejor de los dos

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  3 года назад +1

      The UDR is not a 1/5th scale truck, so it is smaller than the DBXL-E 2.0. That being said, I find the Losi much more enjoyable to bash. It is 1/5th scale and tough, but neither rig is perfect straight out of the box. My choice has nothing to do with Traxxas or Losi either. It is based upon pure enjoyment while running them both. While I do love the DBXL-e, I also enjoy the UDR. It is in a class of it's own being a scale vehicle and stunning to watch run, but it is a bit more unstable in the corners and prone to tumbling when the traction is good. So to answer your question, with no bias, I would pick the Losi DBXL-e 2.0. Keep in mind, you have to choose for yourself, because what works for you may be different than what works for us here. I hope this helps. AJ

      @AJJAMStudios  3 года назад +1

      Since I do not have a Losi 5 T I cannot say, but usually Gasoline is slower than electric and messy to work on. That being said, I have friends that love their gas vehicles. In my experience they are usually loud and after a while they get monotonous to play with. But then again, that's me. You have to decide for yourself if Gas is your thing. Best of luck choosing. AJ

    You put out a great head to head video !!! Subbed !!! I am fortunate to own both of these awesome trucks , I am a short course guy at heart , also have the Senton 6s and the SBR 2.0 . That said , yes , the Mo wins it in the handling department / toughness / ease of working on , however want to ad just a couple small negatives about the Mo , if you are gonna bash this truck hard , stock up on body mounts as they break easy . Second , it does load up with grass / dirt / debri a lot with it being open under body which can easily get small grass into your esc and stop the fan !!! The UDR design keeps most everything out . I did a chassis net cover for my Mo , but ad a motor fan cause now things will heat up under it . Thanks again for the great vid !!!

    I love my UDR. It is the most realistic basher out there, it doesn't compare with any other RC's functionatlity wise. You can compare all the other baja trophy trucks RC's but nothing comes close to the real trophy truck other than the UDR. If you are complaining about how to access curtain parts an maintenance because it's under the cage this UDR is not for you. I would rather have it under the cage than have it exposed. The Mojave is just like any other RC's out there, like any other toy RC's not the UDR scale and full functionality of a real trophy truck.

That's not to say they suck, far from it, when you get something to work well, make lots of it, that's my take on it. Perhaps the Kraton is not for you, let's just say, Arrma also makes the Talion 6s, which is sleeker and more aerodynamic, but based upon the same basic layout and ingredients. That's why the Mojave and the Typhon exist, variety. I own each of them and love them all. The Mojave is a tank, but then again, so is the Typhon. Arrma Rocks!!! fact is.... anytime a truck turns over when youre turning it , its because its too soft.. the slash will do the same thing right out of the box.. i put stiff springs on it it never turns over anymore. the same thing will work for the UDR just get stiffer springs its that simple!!!

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  3 года назад

      It's not quite as simple as that due to the ride height and travel of the suspension of the UDR. This particular car is designed to take rolling hills and lumps for a cross country race, just like the real rig. This one is a scale truck, not a simple RC. But, you are also right in stating the stiffer you set up your suspension, the less body roll you get, but that works against you as well because it limits how well the suspension travels as the tires contact the ground.
