Never had an issue with Mojave EXB diffs. I typically change the oil and shim them with the included shims before the first run, and they just keep going.
Me either, though my ritual is a bit different.. I just run them till failure, then replace with a complete new diff, housing, outdrives..the whole thing. 2 years of use and abuse from both of my Arrma 6s EXB models without so much as a drop of oil or shim added. Good enough for me. With results like that, I have no idea why anyone would even bother servicing them. FWIW, my Xmaxx diffs have been just as trouble free, Redcat Kaiju also..
It's funny how people say the regular maxx handles like concrete and then expect the maxx slash to handle like a race brand chassis. This video is an excellent demonstration of the differences. I'm not saying arrma is race grade, but it certainly does handle better.

@@ib4217 Well as we see they are equally fast with optional gearing traxxas is faster so the less powerful motor isn't likely the esc for sure not the best but as a starter good enough also i woudln't say arrma has very good esc-s recently quite a bit of them go up in smoke mine did in the infraction mega 1/8th scale.... Plastics shoudlb e flexible aren't they if arrma made everything too rigid so it breaks the diff it's on arrma to fix it... they f@cked up ....
As an owner of both vehicles I do prefer my Mojave over the Maxx Slash but I don't know that it's a fair comparison showing an exb roller full of your own choice for electronics versus ready to run electronics in the Maxx Slash as it definitely explains the difference in the overall speed mainly from steering experience
You don't even have a roller option with Traxxas. Traxxas deliberately uses junk servos in the Maxx Slash so do you think it would be a fair test to put junk in the Mojave?
Price is similar. The Mojave RTR is like 70 bucks cheaper than the Traxxas. If that's fair, then surely comparing a roller with an extra 70 worh of cost is just as fair. In my view, the electronics aren't really a question for comparison. It's the handling where the Traxxas struggles.
I didn't do a speed run because of the electronics, as far as the servos go I felt they were on par with each other as the one in the mojave is a take out redcat. Tires made a HUGE difference IMO
@@BeardRubEnjoyerI agree, what we're seeing here hasn't much to do with top speed or power, but rather traction and handling IMO. I still haven't found a use for belted tires off road, which is the only place I care to run rc's myself. Durability may be the only category where the Slash wins for me. My hope is that due to the huge popularity of TRX in general, maybe some decent tire options will be spawned for these sized trucks. To date, the only tires I've found that are suitable are the stock Fotress 6s tires that come with the Mojave. They're great, but I'd love something that will hook up on hard pack clay. If the Slash tires weren't such a hard compound, they'd probably be decent.
I love my 4s and 6s Mojave trucks; they handle great and don't roll over as much as the Maxx Slash. I believe when Traxxas finally releases the sway bar kit (10296), it will be a game-changer for this truck.
The only time I've had issues with the Mojave EXB diffs is when the bolts come loose on the bulkhead or I cracked a bulkhead. Max 6 and 1650KV motor 23T pinion. Other than than that, no issues. And the body falls apart in the rear from the rear. Stock tires.
Yeah I have yet to have a diff issue with my Mojave 6S. Or any issue for that matter. I don't send it super hard, just lots and lots of time on full throttle. Time will tell though.
@maszkalman3676 I far from baby it. It's a desert truck. It doesn't need to go more than 5 feet in the air. That's what my Kraton is for. And I have yet to have an issue with that one other than the chassis bending. 20+ foot jumps and still no gearing issues. Maybe yall just can't drive for shit. Ever think of that? 😂

Nice!! I've been waiting for someone to compare these 2 in a real world setting!! Thanks!! A couple things I'd like to share, one, you can use Redcat Kaiju hex adapters with TRX splined wheels, which is indeed a much cheaper option than Vitavon. Another is, I ran my Mojo EXB for over 2 years without a diff failure, K6EXB also.. IDK what folks be doing to say that Arrma diffs don't hold up, unless they're overpowering them? TRX diffs are no better, my brother has a Sludge with maybe 15 packs through it in stock form, rear diff is shot, spider gears.. huh. Well anyway, I like both the Maxx Slash and the Mojo's, but dollar for dollar, either Mojave represents better performance and value IMO. Keep up the great content brother!!👍😎🍻
I’ve never had an issue with my Mojave diffs. When I got mine, I filled full of fluid, shimmed them and never had an issue. I have a Spektrum 160a esc and a Hobbywing 1100kv running 8s normally. No issues with my diffs. Plus mine is all m2c’d out so it’s heavy af.
@@ekess7458it wouldn’t be. Compared to a trashass it is a world of difference. I would know from experience. Having to put $ into arrma versus $$$$ into trashass to make it keep Up and fail to an arrma. Trashass is just that… trash. The biggest issue with the Mojave is with the dogbones and eating the rear bearings in the spindles. I got mine with CVD’s and replaced with fast eddy bearings and haven’t had any issues.
Exactly as expected, The Maxx slash is designed like a toy with race chassis prices. The Mojave is designed like race chassis with basher prices. I find Traxxas is like Apple for the most part, if you want to plug and play and only go to the same store with the same products for everything it's your ticket. It works well together but being far more expensive than the regular Mojave and still no sway bars? I am happy they came out with it as finally there's another car other than the UDR for the Mojave to walk all over lol (IMO the UDR, XMaxx and TRX-4 are the only traxxas trucks with looking at. In every other category there's a far better vehicle for cheaper than the traxxas equivalent)

I love Arrma but after 3Escs to catch fire...My Infraction, my Fireteam, and Vendetta. Replacing diffs in Senton, Vendetta, and Felony, and servos in each one. The 150 amp ESC cannot handle the speed pinions provided. Haven't had to replace any of that stuff on my Traxxas. My Arrma stuff stays broken.

I have more than 20 rc's and only one esc fire. Then one almost that had water damage, one overheating internally (desoldered chips, temp.cut didn't work neighter), some that just stopped working but were most cheap one. Killing an esc isn't very difficult, so i wonder you maybe ask to much from them and don't check temps enough, maybe not good batteries or connections. Can't tell, but you have a lot off bad luck and that's not what you want from any Rc...

Secondly, even if that's the case, which I highly doubt not unless you're running the wrong capacity batteries..Arrma has a freaking 2 YEAR WARRANTY!!! TRAXXAS HAS 30 DAYS. So the bigger issue is, why would someone lie for Traxxas..head scratcher and I also own Traxxas as well. But a gift is a gift regardless of brand name.
Had the Mojave and had the diff issues. After the third set I fixed it one last time and sold it. Looking forward to a Slash but it's going to need some work. The Body is going to need a lot of vent to stop it from parachuting and the spring/Oil will need to be adjusted as the stock stuff is way too soft. Tires are a given but the stock stuff will be fun onroad.
Heck yeah!! Fortress 6s tires are my favorite tire of all time!! Heck, I have them on my Mojo armed K6S, they're the toughest, best performing tire I've ever had. Unfortunately, they don't do stunts very well. Okay by me.
I had the same result when running both my 4s and 6s Mojave with the Max Slash minus the diff failure. Only other difference is mine is the regular BLX Mojave 6s not the EXB. I have never had a diff issue and had the truck around 18 months.
Great video mate, i personally think Traxxas have not pulled it off with this new Maxx Slash, a poor result considering the Maxx & the Slash are awesome tucks in their own right, Maybe some F&R sway bars & a wider track would improve it’s all round performance
@@smeefbeef367 oh yeah, full pin everywhere on 6s. The body is barely together anymore. I'm even on thick heavy dirt. Maybe the sand is to soft in his climate and the diffs spin open more. That would eat up the spider gears.
We have at least 2 diffs go out everytime we hold a race class for them. Now, they may be faster, more nimble and all that but if they don't make it through the amain and the traxxas does.... guess which one wins?

The Mojave has 2 main weaknesses the diffs & bearings I keep a Fast Eddy’s replaced kit handy at all times & wait for originals to blow out then replace them. From what I hear if you run them on the road a lot that’s what kills the diffs because off-road the tires are spinning & breaking free. Both my Fireteam & Mojave have run almost always off-road & I have had no issues knock on wood.
Most reviews are that the Maxx Slash handles like crap, EVEN Razor RC tuned it and tuned it and still horrible, Mojave 4s or 6s kills this in every respect including value/Price.... So gotta disagree brother.... But it's cool everyone's entitled to opinions. Traxxas just reused a lot of parts hear in a platform that is KNOWN for not handling well.... But don't get me wrong I love all my different brands of RC including my Maxx and Xmaxx for what they are.

Great video as always. Track performance aside, what about just bashing around? Jumping, sliding etc? My concern is that several other reviews criticize these abilities of the Maxx Slash. Is it fun to drive??!! Also thank you for pointing out that it is a short course truck (or desert truck… etc), and short course trucks don’t drive like other RCs and that’s part of the fun! Is it a good short course truck? That’s my question!
I’ve had my Mojave for over two years and never had a diff fail! I did strip them when I first got it and changed the diff oil just for my preference 🤷♂️
Sir, you did a great comparison video here and I appreciate it. I’m going with the Mojave and will deal with the differential issues should they come up. The difference in cost will pay for that anyway. Traxxas needs to up its game in the 6s category. Arrma has me buying their entire 6s line because I can get enough of them. What’s with the Maxx Slash and a plastic chassis?
No doubt the Mojave handles and performs better. I would say Maxx slash may have a slight edge on durability but durability isn't everything if the truck handles and performs better for less money that's way more important because there all going to break at some point. Great video brother.
Both are nice, my brother is into the traxxas trucks and I prefer Arrma/Losi -traxxas is for crawlers😅 If you have the $$$ an all metal Mojave with an unbreakable body from Russia is just unstoppable thing that will not break😂
Ive been out of the rc game for a long time, i used to own a senton 6s a kraton 6s and a talion 6s. All the diff gears had to be shimmed. Once shimmed i never had an issue again. It's good to know the gears need a good shim still because im looking at getting a mojave 6s soon.
I here people say the mojave blows spiders gears but out all mine since i first arrma was outcast that i need to replace them i shimed them from the start and do so with all the new ones i bought and never blown one and my mojave is 8s exb kraton 8s 1650kv if u shim them u shouldn't have a issue and iam harder on them then in your videos so give try and it will make difference but u will need to spend little on shims off variety the spiders were the main ones that need shim just lot of paint maker and dry assembly till u have a good contact patch on the output gears some due need a shim switched out sometimes i would recommend to anyone and fir any 6s arrma to do because i think its the failure of them but iam also a little anal about things thats to being little artistic but made me a hell of a mechanic just took to my 20s to figure out that special way to keep myself learning without jumping throughout 20 projects and started to complete what i started keep up good work and when buying shims try to get the down two atleast a .02 to .05shim to get it good without being to tight .
Integy gears are bad. If ur rear diff is open and it was one of the first production runs of the EXB’s. You need this part ARA311094. I dont remember if the mojave came with LSD in all 3 diffs because they were still figuring out what was causing the kraton exb roller rear diffs to fail when it got released. But if you converted it to the open diff setup and doesnt have the spacer that ARA311094 comes with. Ur diff is going to fail. With this part it wont
The maxx is new and seems most the RUclips guys can’t say anything bad. I have 3 6s arrma cars and no diff issues. Everyone knows traxxas is known for soft metal…
@@jeffreyarmstrong632 yeah man we had a group of summits years ago that’d go out crawling. Changing the diff gears was a real pita and they constantly broke. But the slash may be worth it if the majave needed $100+ in diffs half often and the slash don’t. Glad to hear you’ve had good experience with them. Likely it’s the RUclipsrs extremes. Of course it send most regular owners best RCs to death and then claim they’re junk lol. Well not lol really, that’s how good models get misrepresented.
Man I love Arrmas trucks but anything above 3s seems to skimp on the diff gears. Even quality aftermarket gears don’t fix it because the housing doesn’t allow big enough gears. Diff fixes are usually the longest, most involved, and least satisfying issue to fix too 🤨
Kinda doesn't matter if it was a second or two faster than the Traxxas if it just breaks under normal use. You weren't even bashing. That's pretty inexcusable.
I'm guessing the Mojave has substantially more run time since it has a bunch of upgrades. Chances are the rear differential has a lot more wear on it. The Mojave is a GREAT truck, and I'd pick it over the Maxx Slash any day.
It's funny countless arrma 6s with bigger motors and never a diff issue. RIGHT NOW I HAVE a typhon with a mmx8 1717 1650kv gearing 40/31 street bashing never a issue and my outcast max6 4292 1780kv I beat the hell out of it. Had a Mojave 1650kv and talion back in the day no issues either. I miss my mojave
I just ordered my Mojave today. I see about 5 months ago Arrma did a silent update to the Mojave V2. The latest reviews are showing it now comes with a S665 servo and the newer V2 version of the ESC which has more programming options. The same as what came in my Kraton EXB RTR. I am hoping the one I get isn't old stock and has the updated parts.
Weird I think my comment got deleted. Have you had any luck with the Vitavon spider gears? They are HD for sure I put them in my Kraton EXB but haven't really pushed the setup yet. The Mojave EXB has the same LSD diffs I believe as with all of the EXB models.
Yeah they are way better. On comments, most of the time the early viewing comments never show up once a video is released to the public. I’m not sure why that is.
Not had a problem with the Arrma diffs they just need proper setup. The Traxxas is a bit of a letdown though, I expected better performance. My one and only Traxxas is the Slash Ultimate. Best RC they make. I'm kind of let down by the Maxx Slash to be honest. All that hype while the old Mojave 6s outperforms it. A brand new Mojave BLX with no mods vs a Maxx Slash would be a better comparison. Unfortunately for Traxxas a stock Mojave would still eat it for breakfast. AMain Hobby's first video on the BLX does a great job at showing how vicious the Mojave is. All the Maxx Slash videos are showing me is how it rolls over constantly and bounces like a basketball through grassy thickets. Looks like a department store toy compared to the Mojave.
idk man, I just ran the maxx slash with the JConcepts Landmines... I will have to get a round 2 done as I feel just the tires will change things up, However in pure performance I bought a kraton 6s EXB just to have it against the Sledge and that kraton won every single time I put them together.... sooooo that may be the case here.
I don't own either vehicle...but, regarding the MAXX Slash rolling over, I wonder if it's because of it having a higher CoG. With the Mojave having an aluminum chassis (more weight), and the MAXX Slash having a plastic chassis, that probably gives the MAXX Slash a higher CoG. Something else I noticed...or, should I say, I'm curious about...is the front/rear weight bias. Whereas the Mojave appears to have a fairly balanced front/rear, the MAXX Slash appears to possibly be heavier in the front. Again, just curious.
Never had an issue with the exb diffs. I do run the open kit with the spacer. If ur running the open diff with the forst production batch configuration ur diff is doomed to fail. I bet that is what happened here. The exb diffs are bulletproof now. The bigrock 6s comes with them also but with the new configuration
@@ExocagedRC idk then how ur breaking them. Because i have had in total 9 exb diffs(3 trucks equiped with it) and in 3 years they have never Problem or shown sign or significant wear. One big shim and one small shim behind the pin and then the lsd plates or the spacer if its the open diff setup.
If the Maxx slash had sway bars and longer suspension travel, and different tires I feel like it could’ve competed with the Mojave better or even be on par or maybe better than it

I have had a v1 Traxxas maxx for almost 4 years and have only had to fix it twice and it’s tortured every time I drive it and i just recently had the red lights of death 2 weeks ago but the electrics could use work in both trucks (ecu’s) and the other time it broke was a rear left driveline, but while I have been waiting I bought the slash maxx and love it I also recently had a Mojave 6s also I only used the maxx as a basher after the batteries died in the Mojave, the only thing I would change on the maxx slash is put fans on that engine cause it gets hot after like 10 minutes, and most importantly those sway bars but other than that it’s perfect and I didn’t really have the problems with the diff it broke once and also almost every time I drive the Mojave I have to replace the body clip towers cause they break easily but I think they are both good trucks and there is only a 50 dollar difference and they both have their share of issues but IMO the slash maxx is better for the reason being that it has proved to me that it is more durable and it is a decent track truck I’ve taken it to the track twice but it seems good on the track and it’s an excellent basher, I think of it as a basher more than a short course truck but it’s whatever everything and everyone had there issues and (bad luck), (it’s not bad luck it’s a skill / lack of driving skills issue) but when it comes down to it it’s like a real car they all need to be maintenenced or they all are going to break eventually 😊😂
It's like this, race or play?? Traxxas, you play all day and have fun. Armma, you drive, you tinker, maybe drive some more. Traxxas, you charge batteries, you drive, charge more batteries. One is high maintenance, one is fun. Just don't introduce mom to high maintenance. Own both, Traxxas we just beat on, always work. Arrma looks and sounds cool, just breaks stuff all the time. I definitely go thru my Traxxas trucks, but it's because stuff wears out. Also, Traxxas has stood behind any issue I've had. I could not get a hold of Horizon Hobby at all about my kraton. You pay for Traxxas tech support, they rock!!!
I know this video is old but change the stock maxx slash springs and put the maxx v2 1.450 or even a harder rate springs in it front and rear the spring is taller and won’t need a lot of preload and try running truck again you will see a difference.
@ExocagedRC ill happily invest in an American Texas company that's been around just as long if not longer than Arrma. Parts also readily available for traxxas everywhere. Thier customer service is fast and great. From simple question to online chat to warranty. They just sent me a new 3S battery for free after I sent them a puffy one. I can't speak of Arrma but I always hears parts aren't available and never heard the customer service being on par with Traxxas.
Maxx slash drives 100 times better with the 4s vxl system in it with a 25/46 gearing. 25/50 gearing gets you to 48 mph and 25/46 thus far, with an older vxl system has done 51 mph. The 6s system in this makes it flat out terrible. Cant handle, no throttle control, higher Temps. No issues with the 4s system.
After owning 2 of every car from almost every brand I love each one different but the Maxx slash with a shock spring change and oil change it’s a much different truck as its under sprung from factory. They are both fast but the arrma is a heavy pig 🐷 the Traxxas is much more lively and quick.
Came to hear lots of excuses, gonna need more than tires and sway bars to make up over a second lap time. Arrma’s earlier revision EXB cast spider/satellite gears always fail at the back pin tab and wreak havoc, that I won’t argue. Vitavon machined hold up to 8S Max 6 G2 4990 properly opened with LSD plate delete.
I melted the center diff Mount on my Mojave...cos it's plastic....never even got through 1 battery pack....it just got to much power... which I love... replaced it with aluminum diff mount and it's an animal..gone through 2 sets of tires since... Just a power house
Never heard of issues with Mohave diffs. Maybe if they weren't shimmed. Same diffs in a kraton and outcast, maybe more issues with those because of the larger/heavier tires
@@ExocagedRC Seems many in the comments haven't had issues in the mohave in particular. I don't have one so I don't know. I've yet to have issues in my Kraton or typhon diffs though, I did make sure to shim them however because I have heard of issues in the Kraton
What part of the diff has been a problem for you? I've heard repeated cases of the input gear for v4 and older being soft. I've also heard of the 29mm case diffs (from the exb) having weak outdrive cups compared to v5 31mm diffs.
none of us around here have messed any maxx diffs up, the slash although heavier, has smaller less agressive tires (from the factory) so we will see how they do. My Maxx is an original V1 and I killed a spur gear once, but thats been it
Great comparison video. Weird how the Mojave EXB broke a diff.My Mojave EXB is the biggest POS ever! 6s , 8s doesn't matter. It's the truck that never fails to fail. Yes, the diffs are shimmed each time it breaks. So far three times on all three diffs. Think I'll switch to Traxxas & leave the Mojave EXB right where it breaks next.
Do a rematch with the sway bars and proline tires on max slash the Mojave is far from stock with vitavon upgrades servo ect. I like all rc's but the comparison was not equal just want to see a better time for max slash
Yep me too all the larger Arrmas I never had issues with the internals on the V1 diffs just ring pinion now ring pinion beefed up and now internals go bad but they’re a lot cheaper being only one goes bad at a time
Thanks for the review. Now you can drive, that was so funny my guy said "Well people need to know how to drive"...3 mins later..your like uh oh! Lol Traxxas cant say you didnt give them the benefit of the doubt but thats why this truck isnt on their website, it was a fail. Lastly, Traxxas needs to increase their warranty terms. For a brand whos vehicles are at the top of the price point, 30 days..vs Arrma's 2 years..come on Traxxas do better.
Never had a diff issues in 2 years of running er. Not even ose here, Mojave smoked the NON LCG Maxx Slash, anything otherwise is Fandom Fair assessment here Joe I got to disagree with one point at the end you said that "you can't go wrong with picking either one of these trucks." I think you can absolutely go wrong by picking the max slash over the Mojave 6s or 4S, I think either one of those rigs absolutely smokes this offering by Traxxas hands down especially when considering price why would you pay more for a truck that handles not even close to as good and is only slightly more durable??
I think a better comparison would be the 4s Mojave cause really that's the real head to head it's very unfortunate that's for TRAXXAS electronics to keep up they have to throw 6s at it.... and then it's only as good as the 4s line
I have driven the 4s mojave, it steering week, not accurate and I don't care for that one. if only they had a real bellcrank servo saver for it, it would change everything about that truck

Everyone says the Traxxas cars are expensive for what you get, but when you start breaking parts, Arrma will nickel and dime you to death, plus to get your Arrma as tough you have to modify a lot which means more money, so paying a little more up front seems worth it.

Handles better because of the metal chassis, putting most of the weight down low.
Until the diff explodes :D and then Traxxas wins even if it tips over a lot :D

You don't even have a roller option with Traxxas. Traxxas deliberately uses junk servos in the Maxx Slash so do you think it would be a fair test to put junk in the Mojave?

Price is similar. The Mojave RTR is like 70 bucks cheaper than the Traxxas. If that's fair, then surely comparing a roller with an extra 70 worh of cost is just as fair.
In my view, the electronics aren't really a question for comparison. It's the handling where the Traxxas struggles.
I didn't do a speed run because of the electronics, as far as the servos go I felt they were on par with each other as the one in the mojave is a take out redcat. Tires made a HUGE difference IMO

I still haven't found a use for belted tires off road, which is the only place I care to run rc's myself. Durability may be the only category where the Slash wins for me. My hope is that due to the huge popularity of TRX in general, maybe some decent tire options will be spawned for these sized trucks. To date, the only tires I've found that are suitable are the stock Fotress 6s tires that come with the Mojave. They're great, but I'd love something that will hook up on hard pack clay. If the Slash tires weren't such a hard compound, they'd probably be decent.

I love my 4s and 6s Mojave trucks; they handle great and don't roll over as much as the Maxx Slash. I believe when Traxxas finally releases the sway bar kit (10296), it will be a game-changer for this truck.
Yea sway bars made a HUGE difference in my 2wd slash build… by far the most effective change I’ve done to it. Thing is PLANTED compared to stock
The only time I've had issues with the Mojave EXB diffs is when the bolts come loose on the bulkhead or I cracked a bulkhead. Max 6 and 1650KV motor 23T pinion. Other than than that, no issues. And the body falls apart in the rear from the rear. Stock tires.
Yeah I have yet to have a diff issue with my Mojave 6S. Or any issue for that matter. I don't send it super hard, just lots and lots of time on full throttle. Time will tell though.

A couple things I'd like to share, one, you can use Redcat Kaiju hex adapters with TRX splined wheels, which is indeed a much cheaper option than Vitavon. Another is, I ran my Mojo EXB for over 2 years without a diff failure, K6EXB also.. IDK what folks be doing to say that Arrma diffs don't hold up, unless they're overpowering them? TRX diffs are no better, my brother has a Sludge with maybe 15 packs through it in stock form, rear diff is shot, spider gears.. huh. Well anyway, I like both the Maxx Slash and the Mojo's, but dollar for dollar, either Mojave represents better performance and value IMO. Keep up the great content brother!!👍😎🍻

I’ve never had an issue with my Mojave diffs.
When I got mine, I filled full of fluid, shimmed them and never had an issue. I have a Spektrum 160a esc and a Hobbywing 1100kv running 8s normally. No issues with my diffs.
Plus mine is all m2c’d out so it’s heavy af.

Trashass is just that… trash.
The biggest issue with the Mojave is with the dogbones and eating the rear bearings in the spindles. I got mine with CVD’s and replaced with fast eddy bearings and haven’t had any issues.
This was a fun comparison between the two trucks. It is always fun to rip two competitive RC's back to back. The track looks great!
Exactly as expected, The Maxx slash is designed like a toy with race chassis prices. The Mojave is designed like race chassis with basher prices. I find Traxxas is like Apple for the most part, if you want to plug and play and only go to the same store with the same products for everything it's your ticket. It works well together but being far more expensive than the regular Mojave and still no sway bars? I am happy they came out with it as finally there's another car other than the UDR for the Mojave to walk all over lol (IMO the UDR, XMaxx and TRX-4 are the only traxxas trucks with looking at. In every other category there's a far better vehicle for cheaper than the traxxas equivalent)

I love Arrma but after 3Escs to catch fire...My Infraction, my Fireteam, and Vendetta. Replacing diffs in Senton, Vendetta, and Felony, and servos in each one. The 150 amp ESC cannot handle the speed pinions provided. Haven't had to replace any of that stuff on my Traxxas. My Arrma stuff stays broken.

I have more than 20 rc's and only one esc fire. Then one almost that had water damage, one overheating internally (desoldered chips, temp.cut didn't work neighter), some that just stopped working but were most cheap one. Killing an esc isn't very difficult, so i wonder you maybe ask to much from them and don't check temps enough, maybe not good batteries or connections. Can't tell, but you have a lot off bad luck and that's not what you want from any Rc...

Secondly, even if that's the case, which I highly doubt not unless you're running the wrong capacity batteries..Arrma has a freaking 2 YEAR WARRANTY!!! TRAXXAS HAS 30 DAYS. So the bigger issue is, why would someone lie for Traxxas..head scratcher and I also own Traxxas as well. But a gift is a gift regardless of brand name.
Had the Mojave and had the diff issues. After the third set I fixed it one last time and sold it. Looking forward to a Slash but it's going to need some work. The Body is going to need a lot of vent to stop it from parachuting and the spring/Oil will need to be adjusted as the stock stuff is way too soft. Tires are a given but the stock stuff will be fun onroad.

Heck yeah!! Fortress 6s tires are my favorite tire of all time!! Heck, I have them on my Mojo armed K6S, they're the toughest, best performing tire I've ever had. Unfortunately, they don't do stunts very well. Okay by me.
I had the same result when running both my 4s and 6s Mojave with the Max Slash minus the diff failure. Only other difference is mine is the regular BLX Mojave 6s not the EXB. I have never had a diff issue and had the truck around 18 months.

@@smeefbeef367 oh yeah, full pin everywhere on 6s. The body is barely together anymore. I'm even on thick heavy dirt. Maybe the sand is to soft in his climate and the diffs spin open more. That would eat up the spider gears.
We have at least 2 diffs go out everytime we hold a race class for them. Now, they may be faster, more nimble and all that but if they don't make it through the amain and the traxxas does.... guess which one wins?

The Mojave has 2 main weaknesses the diffs & bearings I keep a Fast Eddy’s replaced kit handy at all times & wait for originals to blow out then replace them. From what I hear if you run them on the road a lot that’s what kills the diffs because off-road the tires are spinning & breaking free. Both my Fireteam & Mojave have run almost always off-road & I have had no issues knock on wood.
I don't have the diff problems, but those "small ball" inner hub bearings do suck.
I like em both. I'd probably go slash because I've got a few traxxas batteries

Traxxas just reused a lot of parts hear in a platform that is KNOWN for not handling well.... But don't get me wrong I love all my different brands of RC including my Maxx and Xmaxx for what they are.

I’ve had my Mojave for over two years and never had a diff fail! I did strip them when I first got it and changed the diff oil just for my preference 🤷♂️
Mojave Diffs are a constant issue here.
I run the GP6 diffs front and rear on the Mojave - half a million diff weight and shimmed. Problem solved.

No doubt the Mojave handles and performs better. I would say Maxx slash may have a slight edge on durability but durability isn't everything if the truck handles and performs better for less money that's way more important because there all going to break at some point. Great video brother.

Ive been out of the rc game for a long time, i used to own a senton 6s a kraton 6s and a talion 6s. All the diff gears had to be shimmed. Once shimmed i never had an issue again. It's good to know the gears need a good shim still because im looking at getting a mojave 6s soon.
As a basher I'd sacrifice 1.5 seconds per lap over durability all day long.

I here people say the mojave blows spiders gears but out all mine since i first arrma was outcast that i need to replace them i shimed them from the start and do so with all the new ones i bought and never blown one and my mojave is 8s exb kraton 8s 1650kv if u shim them u shouldn't have a issue and iam harder on them then in your videos so give try and it will make difference but u will need to spend little on shims off variety the spiders were the main ones that need shim just lot of paint maker and dry assembly till u have a good contact patch on the output gears some due need a shim switched out sometimes i would recommend to anyone and fir any 6s arrma to do because i think its the failure of them but iam also a little anal about things thats to being little artistic but made me a hell of a mechanic just took to my 20s to figure out that special way to keep myself learning without jumping throughout 20 projects and started to complete what i started keep up good work and when buying shims try to get the down two atleast a .02 to .05shim to get it good without being to tight .

Integy gears are bad. If ur rear diff is open and it was one of the first production runs of the EXB’s. You need this part ARA311094. I dont remember if the mojave came with LSD in all 3 diffs because they were still figuring out what was causing the kraton exb roller rear diffs to fail when it got released. But if you converted it to the open diff setup and doesnt have the spacer that ARA311094 comes with. Ur diff is going to fail. With this part it wont
nothing was converted, its never been opened and it was not one of the first EXBs

But the slash may be worth it if the majave needed $100+ in diffs half often and the slash don’t. Glad to hear you’ve had good experience with them. Likely it’s the RUclipsrs extremes. Of course it send most regular owners best RCs to death and then claim they’re junk lol. Well not lol really, that’s how good models get misrepresented.

Man I love Arrmas trucks but anything above 3s seems to skimp on the diff gears. Even quality aftermarket gears don’t fix it because the housing doesn’t allow big enough gears. Diff fixes are usually the longest, most involved, and least satisfying issue to fix too 🤨

Kinda doesn't matter if it was a second or two faster than the Traxxas if it just breaks under normal use. You weren't even bashing. That's pretty inexcusable.
I'm guessing the Mojave has substantially more run time since it has a bunch of upgrades. Chances are the rear differential has a lot more wear on it. The Mojave is a GREAT truck, and I'd pick it over the Maxx Slash any day.
It's funny countless arrma 6s with bigger motors and never a diff issue. RIGHT NOW I HAVE a typhon with a mmx8 1717 1650kv gearing 40/31 street bashing never a issue and my outcast max6 4292 1780kv I beat the hell out of it. Had a Mojave 1650kv and talion back in the day no issues either. I miss my mojave
I just ordered my Mojave today. I see about 5 months ago Arrma did a silent update to the Mojave V2. The latest reviews are showing it now comes with a S665 servo and the newer V2 version of the ESC which has more programming options. The same as what came in my Kraton EXB RTR. I am hoping the one I get isn't old stock and has the updated parts.

Have you had any luck with the Vitavon spider gears? They are HD for sure I put them in my Kraton EXB but haven't really pushed the setup yet. The Mojave EXB has the same LSD diffs I believe as with all of the EXB models.
I haven't deleted anything man. I have sued vitavon diff gears in many trucks without much issue other than being a bit too tight at times.
Yeah they are way better. On comments, most of the time the early viewing comments never show up once a video is released to the public. I’m not sure why that is.
Not had a problem with the Arrma diffs they just need proper setup. The Traxxas is a bit of a letdown though, I expected better performance. My one and only Traxxas is the Slash Ultimate. Best RC they make. I'm kind of let down by the Maxx Slash to be honest. All that hype while the old Mojave 6s outperforms it. A brand new Mojave BLX with no mods vs a Maxx Slash would be a better comparison. Unfortunately for Traxxas a stock Mojave would still eat it for breakfast. AMain Hobby's first video on the BLX does a great job at showing how vicious the Mojave is. All the Maxx Slash videos are showing me is how it rolls over constantly and bounces like a basketball through grassy thickets. Looks like a department store toy compared to the Mojave.
idk man, I just ran the maxx slash with the JConcepts Landmines... I will have to get a round 2 done as I feel just the tires will change things up, However in pure performance I bought a kraton 6s EXB just to have it against the Sledge and that kraton won every single time I put them together.... sooooo that may be the case here.

I don't own either vehicle...but, regarding the MAXX Slash rolling over, I wonder if it's because of it having a higher CoG. With the Mojave having an aluminum chassis (more weight), and the MAXX Slash having a plastic chassis, that probably gives the MAXX Slash a higher CoG. Something else I noticed...or, should I say, I'm curious about...is the front/rear weight bias. Whereas the Mojave appears to have a fairly balanced front/rear, the MAXX Slash appears to possibly be heavier in the front. Again, just curious.

Never had an issue with the exb diffs. I do run the open kit with the spacer. If ur running the open diff with the forst production batch configuration ur diff is doomed to fail. I bet that is what happened here. The exb diffs are bulletproof now. The bigrock 6s comes with them also but with the new configuration

@@ExocagedRC idk then how ur breaking them. Because i have had in total 9 exb diffs(3 trucks equiped with it) and in 3 years they have never Problem or shown sign or significant wear. One big shim and one small shim behind the pin and then the lsd plates or the spacer if its the open diff setup.

I have had a v1 Traxxas maxx for almost 4 years and have only had to fix it twice and it’s tortured every time I drive it and i just recently had the red lights of death 2 weeks ago but the electrics could use work in both trucks (ecu’s) and the other time it broke was a rear left driveline, but while I have been waiting I bought the slash maxx and love it I also recently had a Mojave 6s also I only used the maxx as a basher after the batteries died in the Mojave, the only thing I would change on the maxx slash is put fans on that engine cause it gets hot after like 10 minutes, and most importantly those sway bars but other than that it’s perfect and I didn’t really have the problems with the diff it broke once and also almost every time I drive the Mojave I have to replace the body clip towers cause they break easily but I think they are both good trucks and there is only a 50 dollar difference and they both have their share of issues but IMO the slash maxx is better for the reason being that it has proved to me that it is more durable and it is a decent track truck I’ve taken it to the track twice but it seems good on the track and it’s an excellent basher, I think of it as a basher more than a short course truck but it’s whatever everything and everyone had there issues and (bad luck), (it’s not bad luck it’s a skill / lack of driving skills issue) but when it comes down to it it’s like a real car they all need to be maintenenced or they all are going to break eventually 😊😂

It's like this, race or play?? Traxxas, you play all day and have fun. Armma, you drive, you tinker, maybe drive some more. Traxxas, you charge batteries, you drive, charge more batteries. One is high maintenance, one is fun. Just don't introduce mom to high maintenance.
Own both, Traxxas we just beat on, always work. Arrma looks and sounds cool, just breaks stuff all the time. I definitely go thru my Traxxas trucks, but it's because stuff wears out. Also, Traxxas has stood behind any issue I've had. I could not get a hold of Horizon Hobby at all about my kraton. You pay for Traxxas tech support, they rock!!!

I know this video is old but change the stock maxx slash springs and put the maxx v2 1.450 or even a harder rate springs in it front and rear the spring is taller and won’t need a lot of preload and try running truck again you will see a difference.

@ExocagedRC ill happily invest in an American Texas company that's been around just as long if not longer than Arrma. Parts also readily available for traxxas everywhere. Thier customer service is fast and great. From simple question to online chat to warranty. They just sent me a new 3S battery for free after I sent them a puffy one. I can't speak of Arrma but I always hears parts aren't available and never heard the customer service being on par with Traxxas.
Maxx slash drives 100 times better with the 4s vxl system in it with a 25/46 gearing. 25/50 gearing gets you to 48 mph and 25/46 thus far, with an older vxl system has done 51 mph. The 6s system in this makes it flat out terrible. Cant handle, no throttle control, higher Temps. No issues with the 4s system.
After owning 2 of every car from almost every brand I love each one different but the Maxx slash with a shock spring change and oil change it’s a much different truck as its under sprung from factory. They are both fast but the arrma is a heavy pig 🐷 the Traxxas is much more lively and quick.
Came to hear lots of excuses, gonna need more than tires and sway bars to make up over a second lap time. Arrma’s earlier revision EXB cast spider/satellite gears always fail at the back pin tab and wreak havoc, that I won’t argue. Vitavon machined hold up to 8S Max 6 G2 4990 properly opened with LSD plate delete.

Bashed my V1 Mojave to hell and never had a single diff issue.
I melted the center diff Mount on my Mojave...cos it's plastic....never even got through 1 battery pack....it just got to much power... which I love... replaced it with aluminum diff mount and it's an animal..gone through 2 sets of tires since... Just a power house

Never heard of issues with Mohave diffs. Maybe if they weren't shimmed. Same diffs in a kraton and outcast, maybe more issues with those because of the larger/heavier tires

@@ExocagedRC Seems many in the comments haven't had issues in the mohave in particular. I don't have one so I don't know. I've yet to have issues in my Kraton or typhon diffs though, I did make sure to shim them however because I have heard of issues in the Kraton
What part of the diff has been a problem for you? I've heard repeated cases of the input gear for v4 and older being soft. I've also heard of the 29mm case diffs (from the exb) having weak outdrive cups compared to v5 31mm diffs.

none of us around here have messed any maxx diffs up, the slash although heavier, has smaller less agressive tires (from the factory) so we will see how they do. My Maxx is an original V1 and I killed a spur gear once, but thats been it
@@ExocagedRC same v1 had it since release Im super abusive on it and the gears are fairly cheap so I don’t mind much but they do fail.
Great comparison video. Weird how the Mojave EXB broke a diff.My Mojave EXB is the biggest POS ever! 6s , 8s doesn't matter. It's the truck that never fails to fail. Yes, the diffs are shimmed each time it breaks. So far three times on all three diffs. Think I'll switch to Traxxas & leave the Mojave EXB right where it breaks next.
Do a rematch with the sway bars and proline tires on max slash the Mojave is far from stock with vitavon upgrades servo ect.
I like all rc's but the comparison was not equal just want to see a better time for max slash
Slash internals are better the Mojave wasn’t stock, you said so at the beginning of the video. My opinion Traxxas wins and it’s stock out the box

Yep me too all the larger Arrmas I never had issues with the internals on the V1 diffs just ring pinion now ring pinion beefed up and now internals go bad but they’re a lot cheaper being only one goes bad at a time
Thanks for the review. Now you can drive, that was so funny my guy said "Well people need to know how to drive"...3 mins later..your like uh oh! Lol Traxxas cant say you didnt give them the benefit of the doubt but thats why this truck isnt on their website, it was a fail. Lastly, Traxxas needs to increase their warranty terms. For a brand whos vehicles are at the top of the price point, 30 days..vs Arrma's 2 years..come on Traxxas do better.

Fair assessment here Joe I got to disagree with one point at the end you said that "you can't go wrong with picking either one of these trucks." I think you can absolutely go wrong by picking the max slash over the Mojave 6s or 4S, I think either one of those rigs absolutely smokes this offering by Traxxas hands down especially when considering price why would you pay more for a truck that handles not even close to as good and is only slightly more durable??
We constantly have diff issues with the Mojave. If the diff messes up the day can be over.

I think a better comparison would be the 4s Mojave cause really that's the real head to head it's very unfortunate that's for TRAXXAS electronics to keep up they have to throw 6s at it.... and then it's only as good as the 4s line
I have driven the 4s mojave, it steering week, not accurate and I don't care for that one. if only they had a real bellcrank servo saver for it, it would change everything about that truck

Everyone says the Traxxas cars are expensive for what you get, but when you start breaking parts, Arrma will nickel and dime you to death, plus to get your Arrma as tough you have to modify a lot which means more money, so paying a little more up front seems worth it.
"Funny thing is this smoked the Maxx everywhere". It's s not surprising- forget names, one is a good performing vehicle and one isn't. The T is a max turd that needs a max price slash.
