I know this vid is a year old....but a tip for your GoPro: DO NOT "scuff up" the surface when you put the tape on. Leave the surface as smooth as possible. You want maximum surface area for the tape to hold on to.

I did get a Traxxas udr for my birthday last year and have had an amazing experience with it. This truck just takes the scale realism to the next level and is just amazing to watch drive around. I have also had a great experience durability wise. It’s not really meant for bashing but it can certainly take a beating. If you’re looking for a beautiful piece of machinery, and great performing truck, I highly recommend the Traxxas udr.

I’m planning to move to Arizona fairly soon, so buying a desert racer makes sense. I’ve been looking at the UDR, but it’s nice to see some other options like the Mojave. So far, however, I’m still more attracted to the UDR. I like the way it looks more, and it’s features overall I think look better. What I’d really like to see is the Mojave versus the Ultimate Slash 4x4, as I’ve also considered the Ultimate for its more affordable price.
Also, I don’t intend to use mine for bashing, just simple racing and such. I have a basher for bashing. 🤷‍♂️

UDR owner. Into RC cars since the 70's and I can say this is my favorite ride ever. The only thing that comes close was the first Losi truck with similar trailing suspension. I'm into racing and realism and have never really bashed except for the Losi truck I mentioned. Appreciate the review.

  • @XDairsoft

It would have been cool if they switched cars to do the race again to see how much driver impacted the results however they both did similar. Also did you mention Traxxas link and the app and how it displays speed and battery for the car and controller.
I have a UDR. I would assume the Mojave is better if you want a simple good out of the box truck but idk.
I still chose UDR as Traxxas parts are usually cheaper and easy to find, there is usually better upgrades too.
I can not emphasise how much it would cost you to get a perfect UDR especially with it costing more to begin with though.
I would say I haven't used a Mojave but judging by the video you would agree the UDR is the best car handling wise with the solid rear diff and suspension setup, it has a nice balance too.(although front heavy on jumps compared to other RCs).
I have upgrade my UDR to where I can bash it beyond the point where its not a con to the UDR however its going to cost much more than the Mojave but its at the point where I don't think I could get the same fun out of the Mojave no matter how many upgrades it has. Its just the way it drives and I think its worth it.
I do have some tips for UDR owners as I have mine very durable and I have tried various parts and I take it to skate parks and bash it.
In order of importance and starting with common knowledge(roughly).
protect the shell with filament, weave or reinforcing tape. you do not need to cover the whole body just where there is friction and the thin points and around the mount points where its best to add a washer or extra layer of plastic to them especially the rear, front window pillars, skirts and front wheel arches. proline shells are thicker at the standard shells weak points.
You will need to upgrade the wheel hubs pretty much any metal ones will do but hot racing ones are far superior.
You will need a metal front centre shaft.
Trailing arm upgrade. GPM are light strong and cheap. RPM might be better as they may flex and protect the tie rod on your shocks.
Bigger battery means higher voltage for longer which increases the fun for me. I use a 6500mah URUAV 6s LIPO and it only fits when you remove the brace, don't worry it isn't going anywhere. Its probably a good idea to get a hot racing fan and motor mount to cool the motor as mine was getting quiet hot. this wouldn't be an issue but I decided to get one to protect the motor and if you have a bigger battery or switch it out and put fresh ones in id recommend it.
The stock servo is weak and prone to break. people will recommend the Savox servo but the eco power is a much better choice, fully water proof, cheaper, faster and stronger than any servo I could find while using the standard 6v, yes I compared about 7 servos and how they perform at 6v. You need a BTU to get more voltage to get the speed and torque they display. Also it has survived the test of time so its hands down the best.
Try to stick to the stock tyres as the proline ones are too good they may put more stress on the car and even with the upgraded sway bars they increase how much you roll significantly and would very likely reduce your time on a track due to you slowing down or rolling on corners and you will roll while bashing and drifting will be more destructive. the only advantage would be more traction in strait lines which is not an issue.
Hot racing front driveshafts work great but make sure you put plenty of Loctite on the grub screws as the average amount is not enough I lost one but had another drive shaft to take it from but the grub screw pin is quite unique and I can't find spares anywhere.
I have GPM shocks which make everything easy on the car and the shock shafts have a much bigger diameter.
Getting some metal skid plates for the rear diff will protect it from anything and it cheaper and lighter than a fully CNC one which can be harmful to other parts. getting a skid plate for the front is a good idea too although I don't use one at the front and its only a little worn.
A good upgrade to pair with the GPM shocks is the GPM rear suspension linkage but Hot Racing would be better but cost more. I would avoid anything GPM from this point on as the other parts they make are not strong enough to make the UDR perfect.
Search for a 3D printed front bumper which is made to flex and applies pressure to the upper and lower front bumper it also is a big curve which could use the force to push the UDR to the side a little . I broke my bumper strait away previously but with the printed added one it flexes and has survived a nearly top speed crash into a wall, I'd say 40mph or just under, and I wasn't expecting it to have no damage at all but it absorbed it all and has continued to prevent the car from taking any damage it goes to the edge of the shell nearly protecting right to the wheels as opposed to not having it and the standard bumper without it doesn't.
My sway bar got destroyed while bashing and I didn't notice I repaired it and couldn't justify using it I tested it with my hands and it was indeed working but I just removed it for bashing as its a liability and I can drive just as good without it it doesn't roll more and can corner aggressive. also if you want a front sway bar the GPM one is pathetic and the Hot racing one has a thicker bar with a drill bit to make holes for it so id recommend that one or none.
Its not really a tip or important upgrade but if you like the scale of the UDR like me Its a nice touch to add some better fire extinguishers that are painted better and perhaps have metal mounts and rubber hoses. I added them slightly lower and they look like they are in a good spot and survive rolls.
This is literally every upgrade you need and I haven't managed to fault any of these upgrades yet after using them for a long time with over 12 foot jumps and high speed crashes and rolling down hills and crashing into an Xmaxx and regular use on skate parks so I hope some1 finds this useful.

@Founding Fathers haha ye true I can't deny I am a traxxas fanboy. But the udr and mojave are very different and it depends what you want. I just state the reason I like the udr and my experience with it. I cant help but read your reply imaging you are offended in some way. But have you even watched the video the guy says he loves the way the udr handles and drifts. This is because it has a solid rear diff and a completely different suspension setup with sway bars. is that evidence enough for ya? I mean compared to the mojave I said it "looks like it handles better" and I prefer the scale which is an opinion. It baffles me how you can look at my comment in a negative way and then get annoyed, we all love the hobby and there is no need to be a snowflake.

I love your videos, always great content and commentary. Love the editing and camera work too.
I have neither vehicle you've featured in this video but what is always a significant factor in purchasing a vehicle for me is accessibility to replacement parts or upgrade parts. Especially in higher end vehicles that travel higher speeds and take more punishment.
Nothing kills love for a vehicle when you can’t replace a crucial part to run it or you have to wait months for replacement parts.
Keep posting great relatable videos for us to enjoy!

@@TheRcKiwis Sorry to hear you’re waiting so long for parts to arrive.
I love the hobby and now there are so many different brands, my concern is finding replacement parts. Even on Amazon if you look closely at the delivery dates on some parts are coming from China.
I love the options that are out there but as a rule of thumb I stick with brands that I know or that have a good presence in the hobby and that are in stock locally or a reputable online retailer.

I purchased the UDR 10 months ago because it looked great. After a couple of runs, parts began to break: front bumper, body, body cage, drive shaft, etc. I wasn't able to purchase any replacement parts because EVERYTHING was on back order all summer. The battery compartment is also a huge problem. Only one set of 40 batteries would fit properly. I definitely would NOT recommend the Traxxas UDR - the RC rolls more than any other RC that I own. The Mojave (EXB) is a much better RC in my opinion.

I'm LOVING my 1/10 associated Pro4 SCT. Its a beast, all the electronics are dead SOLID hardware, so fast, and I havent been able to break it even bashing hard in the desert out here. Even on 3s she just takes everything I throw at her. If they offered a kit that I could assemble with the same or slightly less cost and all the same components id even like that more cuz building em is fun.
People complain about no TCM, but I've found that it's so stable it doesn't NEED it...plus you can't use stabilization in races.

I would get the Arrma Mojave EXB as trying to get anything from Traxxas shipped to Australia is almost impossible unless paying 50% more for them.
Even for some simple parts some sellers will not do it as I tried to get the Traxxas Drag Slash and 33' Hot Rod Coupe from Amain Hobbies.
But they can not ship to Australia as Traxxas does not allow it. I did get the Drag Slash for $400.00AU more than it cost for my ZD Racing EX-07.
That makes the Traxxas Drag Slash the most expensive RC Car I now have.

I went with the arrma due to some of the upgrades you would have to do to actually make it bash ready
Where the arrma comes that way
But more importantly as long as you have fun with this hobby it really doesn't matter in the end
    I enjoy this hobby

The Mojave looks like it’s a better designed and pricey slash. It handles the same as a slash. The UDR looks so realistic and handles so much better. I’m more impressed with the realism and scale of it too. I know it’s not as durable as the Mohave. But I’d pick the UDR or the Mohave

Something I never thought I’d say. But time has proved me wrong so I’ll share here. The ZD short course truck is pretty badass. I only got it because it was on sale and was cheap. Comes 4S 120 amp with a 4274 motor not sure the kv rating. But I was really bored with it so I added a “HEX8” redcat 150 amp 6S ESC (max8 for 50 bucks cheaper) and kept the original motor and instantly became faster than my 6S typhon. But that made me want to upgrade the Typhon so I got the 8S 160 amp spectrum esc but found it much easier to add to the ZD so now from stock 4S 120 up to 8S 160 amp it now is the fastest thing I’ve ever seen. So far the original motor is still holding up. So almost a year later I’m shocked at the durability and versatility of the ZD short course truck

@@dualtrondreamteam6811 I completely disagree about Arrma. I have 4 and have beat them mercilessly for years and have only had to replace a few typical steering pieces on rare occasions. So I think it depends a lot on which one coming off the line that you get. I’ve had some wltoys models that come with broken pieces straight from the factory and some that have been seemingly indestructible. The same can be said about most I think luck has a lot to do with it. I will say my 1/5 Arrma outcast did break the front A-arm within moments of taking it out of the box and running it. It rolled into a train track at about 2 mph on full brake. So I guess I don’t completely disagree but for the most part I’ve had really good luck with Arrma

    • @jimmyv1753
      @jimmyv1753 Год назад

@@dualtrondreamteam6811 I’m not sure what the scale is for my short course truck the ZD model I was talking about but it is massive. I think it was sold as a 1/8 scale but it’s huge. It’s one of the largest I have and I have a bunch of 1/8 scale redcats, Arrmas and a bunch of weird off brand stuff like the JLB cheetah and Speed (which are very fun but have more power than they can take structurally) I’d guess that ZD to be closer to a 1/6 scale than 1/8 but honestly I’m not entirely sure how they scale them.

  • @AutoBodyEverything
    @AutoBodyEverything 3 года назад

You said it perfect! The traxxass UDR I have to admit……it’s scale and performance is also scale… It’s harder to work on in terms of practicality but that’s the trade off as the word HOBBY implies like the Arrma Mojito being easy to work on keeping the “traditional” Hobby car platform we’re all used to seeing on 98% of rc cars since for ever…. This is proof that a “scale” rc vehicle means more than just looks, it’s like shrinking the real vehicle and it’ll still perform like the real thing. I would essentially pick Arrma Mojave bcs of its durability and better mod and upgrade advantages.. traxxass did good.

i dont understand why people tend to compare the two trucks when theyre all two different platforms and were not really meant to compete with one another. udr is meant for more scale driving mainly whoops and small jumps, while mojave is more to be compared with slash or ultimate slash. udr should be compared with sbr or br. with same independent front and solid axle at the rear, mojave should be competing against other full independent suspension trucks out there

the extra money for the UDR is so worth it. the Mojave looks good but it has no realism and looks bouncy. really looks like a fast radioshack rc car. the UDR looks "weighted" and very balanced. the thing can whip around at high speeds and not flip.
    Mojave - arcade mode
    UDR - simulation
