This floorplan is better than most luxury trailers. Its almost like the bigger they get the less appealing the floorplan becomes! Love your reviews they're to the point, fast paced yet easy to follow!
For minimalist camping, it's not bad. It covers the minimum decently and can sleep 3-5 people, depending on what's put wear, which is nice. ... For minimalist living, I'd drop the dinette in favor of some good folding furniture, add a side ladder to get up to the top bunk, replace the mattress material for better stuff, and replace the queen bed with a futon bed(with a good mattress) to serve as a couch normally and a bed as needed. I would consider gutting it all, but some pass-through storage is nice to have. . From there, I'd try to find some space for a washer/dryer combo unit and a mini-freezer. There's only enough counter space for one of those. If there isn't an oven, I'll put it the washer/dryer unit under the stove and either put a mini-freezer on the counter or replace the mini-fridge and some counter space with a bigger fridge. If there is an oven, I don't have to get a convection oven microwave, but I'll have to work harder to find space for one of the appliances and invest in some countertop covers for the sink and burner. . All in all, the adjustments shouldn't take even 5 grand, which means, tiny home living for under 20k, which isn't bad.
We have a 17'. It's great for the wife and I. We've traveled the country with it. I didn't have to buy a big truck to tow it and it's easy to get into places that the big rigs can't. I'm having fun customizing it to our needs. Our camper is about ten foot high. We use it for short trips of 4 or 5 days to month long trips. With Covid 19 where going long distances is hard, it made it so we could go to local state parks and just get away from it all. Glad we bought it.
This is something I'd enjoy doing as well, these smaller trailers are exactly what I'd want and need...I don't have a full size 3/4 ton or larger truck to lug around a full size house these small 17 foot and smaller trailers are just the thing. It'll be a few years before I can get anything as I'm just working on closing on a house (far more important).
You are very informative on your videos. When you compare 2 different products, you are very good at it describing your likes and dislikes about each one. Keep up the good work!
I love your videos on small RVs. IMO, there is more creative thought and ingenuity that goes into their layout than a big RV, making them more interesting to watch.
We have a young couple friends with a 15 month old. He wants to get a trailer, she is the hard core tenter and a iron woman competitor, I think this would be perfect for them.
This is for when you do now want to sleep outside. Sure it is fun to play outside or look at the stars. I want to sleep in the bug free, bear free, snake free, inside. 😁🤣
My wife selected a trailmaster 199RK and it is a blast. We got a F-150 to pull it and it makes for a very relaxed towing experience and we get 13.5mpg with the 5.0 4x4 so it is a lot cheaper then the rental class-c that I used before. It is perfect for a couple. Thanks for your content.
Nice thing having a travel trailer is you can really kind of go where you want, you don't necessarily need a camp ground with hookups, you can go out for a few days and dry camp without needing to plug into power anywhere. 13mpg is pretty reasonable pulling a box on wheels down the highway LOL. These smaller trailers are a great thing, something I look forward to purchasing here in the next few years. I don't mind a tent at all, but sometimes its just nice to have a little bit of luxury LOL.
We have an even smaller 14 foot Viking. We love it! Yes the table is our bed but it is just fine since we spend most of our time outside. We are on Vancouver Island where camping with a trailer is possible most of the year. We do both short overnights as well as longer trips of several weeks. Perfectly happy with it. Lots of storage and everything we need in a trailer. Just get out there and enjoy!
I really like the size of this RV. We will be picking up the Jayco Hummingbird 17bh model for our family of four. We get outside and love to ride our bikes, hike, and explore new locales, so it's perfect for us. Looking forward to happy travels. Love your channel!
We have the Starcraft version of this which we love! It is a little different as it has the frig. beside the pantry which takes up the counter space but gives access to the frig without standing on your head. Our bunks don't have the access door but have big windows and all of the water tanks/electrical cords are moved under the beds in the back. We love the set up and actually downgraded from a larger hybrid setup with slides that was leaking like a sieve. Love the simplicity.
What are the weight ratings and what's the model number? I have a 2020 Tacoma and really want an RV but need it to have a shower and toilet. I can use the kitchen if I need a sink no problem.
@@SheepdogSmokey We have a 2018 Starcraft Launch 17 BH. It weighs about 3200 unloaded, I think. You should have zero problems pulling it with a Tacoma, as even loaded down it is not close to your tow limit. These types of campers are really popular right now so every manufacturer has there own version that is slightly different like ours is from the Viking shown above. Very functional though. Good Luck! You will love camping.
@@steveyost5530 Very cool, not too many dealers near me have these, but if/when I have enough of a down payment (I want at least 25% down) I'll bet they can find one!
@@alabamasmokeywilson6818 Great! We are really loving it. It is a good size for us and we really like that the fridge is up at eye level instead of on the floor in this model. We moved into this from a hybrid and not missing it at all.
Pretty similar layout to a Winnebago Micro Minnie 1700BH. I rented the Winnebago recently and towed it easily with my 1/2 ton GMC Sierra. Instead of a big honking trailer that’s difficult to tow and handle, this class of trailer is pretty nice. On one hand, I dislike it not being fully equipped. On the other hand, it gives the owner the ability to equip it as he/she sees fit.
Another big benefit to a camper like this, take it to ANY state park, camp ground or primitive area and run off an inverter generator easily. I love campers like this.
4:11 - is the door not closing correctly? That said, honestly, I could easily live in this thing for extended periods of time, as I don't cook elaborate meals, don't really need more than somewhere to keep folded clothes (or a suitcase) and so on. I currently am working to turn a storage building into a house, but the time is just dragging it out. I could easily turn the small bedroom I have into an office for my computer, keep the bathroom and fix the few issues there, sleep in the RV and come to the "office" during the day" and have it for weekend jaunts.
We have a similar 16BHS wolf pup, family of five fits just fine. We’ve towed through the Rockies with a Toyota Highlander, works great for a family that is into minimal camping and it’s way more comfortable than our tent.
Hello Mr. JD. A while back you asked what you viewers would like to see modified on the F450. I personally would like to see you do a super single tire conversion and a Kelderman air suspension. You get rid of the leaf springs and put a true heavy duty air suspension on that truck and your F450 will ride a lot better. Every time you come up with an idea that beautiful truck looks even more beautiful!
I like it....I'm outside all the time, I don't need anything more. I seen one like this that had a murphy/couch set up in the front and a big bath across the entire back of the trailer. It was perfect but I don't remember who made it. But that's the trailer that got me thinking.
For a small family of 5 this is exactly what we have been looking for! It’s been months looking. Thank you for sharing. It’s been really hard to find a small rv with bunk beds.
Just bought the Coachmen Clipper Cadet 17CBH...exact same unit minus the rear door. 2 adults and 3 kids. It is the perfect size to sleep in, wash up and prep meals. It tows easily with almost anything, fits into ALL of the parks and because there isn't a lot of electronic doo dads running all of the time, easily runs off a small inverter generator (also has solar prep)
As a single mom of a boy, I had one pretty close to this unit. We had good times in it. Does everything the huge one did my now husband owned. For a fraction of the price.
You don't remove the bunk you lift it up and then you have your storage garage . I know we have the older version of it from Viking our bed is a full size bed are you sure that's a queen the older version has much more storage and a little bed table will not fit an adult my youngest who's 5 foot 9 will not fit on that bed he just fits in one of the bunks the bumps are 72 by 28 inches great camper in the old version
Id replace dinette too. Make it my man cave. Id put recliner under window where dinette is currently and face it back to front. Perfect spot under window for me to relax after long hike.. Also the bed would be raised 3 feet off floor. Still leave the bed under storage lid. Then place a piece of counter top, long length along side of bed. It covers bedtop going east to west to door. At bar height. Get a bar stool to go under bed and rest feet on under bed storage.
Put the second door in the back and call it a micro toy hauler. A flip-down sink over the toilet would work for those who insist on a bathroom sink. This is my new favorite layout for this size unit.
We have the Viking 17FQ which is very similar. It is a perfect small starter RV for couples in that it has the walkaround queen and a larger bathroom than this unit.
We have a trailer similar in size. It’s not for people who want to stay in it to watch TV. It’s really to sleep and eat. Great size for F150 or similar.
What I learned with my 2024 Forest RV travel trailer. 1. You can't connect a satellite receiver to the outside port. The RV wiring is not made for it. Only way is to feed the coaxial cable through the window and connect directly to the receiver. 2. Forest River needs to label the breaker panel and explain how to open it. Neither is mentioned in the manual. 3. The leveling jacks are weak steel that don't support the weight of the RV. One of mine bent out. 4. The side storage door locks are junk. Will not lock.
So ngl I have 2 campers with this layout a jayco that stays at deer camp during the winter so if it’s more than just me (which usually there’s someone tagging along ) and Forrest river wolf pup that wither the slide out dinnete that has had some extensive modifications done (shout out to camper world Memphis for help with the changes) I race motor cross and instead of having to keep my prize bike (a klx 250 on/off road bike that has been upgraded to handle the stress of the jumps while racing ) in the back of my truck the bottom bunk and back wall of the trailer have been replaced so I have a ramp and garage area to keep my bike in the trailer the bottom bunk is walled off and with the door and a sealed off floor I have room to work on my bike and keep it safe both campers have served me very well in the time I’ve had them my 2017 single cab f150 sport with the 5.0 (that has been fairly modified itself) doesn’t know it’s back there
We've gone from a trailer this size, then to a tent trailer and back to a 25foot trailer with bunks, now I want to get out of that and into something like a toy hauler or with a deck on the front for a toy which has yet to be bought, the problem is I have a half ton with air bags, 950lb to the weight, tows app, 9300lbs. Not many choices, even consider going back to tent trailer with deck but don't want the set up. Many toy hauler start around 7000plus pounds and are over 31 ft in length . So I'm researching and even may build my own, camper on a flat deck, down side not to many have a bunk above table.
@4:17 did you just not close the outside door all the way or is there that much of a space when the door is closed? I could see a lot of light that seemed to be coming through the edges of the door. Otherwise, I really like this layout. Is there another brand with a similar layout but higher quality (comes standard with an electric tongue jack, wrap around shower walls, etc.)?
Quick question my wife and I are looking for something that's fully handicap accessible because she is wheelchair bound any ideas for us to get our feet wet with, so when we go to family we don't have to worry about a bed or anything
Honestly your best bet would be a compact toy hauler, since trailers don't typically have wheelchair entry/exit access. Something like this maybe: ruclips.net/video/9v3teLlflcc/видео.html or this ruclips.net/video/ywJquq_fyIM/видео.html
Great review. I have a neighbor who's looking for a RV just that seize for his family of 4. They have a Toyota Highlander it's rated at about 5,000 tow so this might just work. As you would say I'll have him, "look at the Number's"!
It is a little bit too much weight for what we can haul. (maybe without the bunk beds). But I love this trailer, it is just a bit larger than the teardrops but I think it is really cute. It looks like it doesn't come with the tanks up front or the battery. No tv inside, just the hook up or place where it goes, no microwave, so it seems to not come with somethings that others normally come with. But a very cute trailer. Thank you for sharing 👪💗🌳🐕🏡🚙 🌺
Does the bottom bunk flip up or out of the way to utilize the storage space while your traveling to your destination? A flip up sink int the bath could be added. Nice weekend destination coach.
Love your reviews. Could u do a review on the Grand Design Imagine xls 17mke? Seen some reviews on it but none say price or what can of vehicle can tow it.
I’m looking to finally get that first camper. It will be for 2 and most likely a +1. Currently have a Honda Pilot with a 3500lb tow capacity so I know I need to stay under 3k. Am I looking at a pop up or should I hold off a few years and get a truck first? My current truck is fine around town but with 200k miles, I’m not wanting to take it out far.
JD, can you please do a segment featuring tire pressure, OEM and on upgraded tires such as G range. For both RVs and truck......please. The amount of misinformation is crazy.

Great job, would love to see you review a keystone raptor 427 for a family of 4 hauling golf cart to beach in the summer time for week long stays
And not to mention the twice the surface area of the diamond plate rock guard in front compared to the trailer beside it.
Does the bottom bunk flip up or out of the way to utilize the storage space while your traveling to your destination? A flip up sink int the bath could be added. Nice weekend destination coach.
Yes, yes, and yes.
You should review the vengeance rogue armored 351a13
Just PERFECT
Everything is awesome! 😂
I really wish they had these sizes in twin axle
This is nicer than a pop up and can be towed to hard to get places.
Do you still have those small trailers for one or two people and how much I want to buy one
Where is this at for 12k? There's a couple of dealers near me that have it listed for 16k...
This would be perfect for a new Ford Ranger.
i don't see any speakers, bluetooth or stereo?
What is over all size include "A" frame at front?
I was shocked at the counter space in this cute tiny trailer. The only thing I would change is to put a sofa\daybed where the queen bed is
Some of that counter space will likely be taken up by a microwave.
This looks like an awesome little trailer! Would be perfect for me and my son. Can't find any in the price range you mentioned though.
Nice , I like it ! 😊
Love your reviews. Could u do a review on the Grand Design Imagine xls 17mke? Seen some reviews on it but none say price or what can of vehicle can tow it.
is that with a queen or full?
I’m looking to finally get that first camper. It will be for 2 and most likely a +1. Currently have a Honda Pilot with a 3500lb tow capacity so I know I need to stay under 3k. Am I looking at a pop up or should I hold off a few years and get a truck first? My current truck is fine around town but with 200k miles, I’m not wanting to take it out far.
Would it be safe for a 5th gen limited 4runner to pull this ?
Hey i was wondering what RV should I get if im trying to move out of my parents house? I just graduated and want to know.
Nice little trailer. Wish they put a window in the kitchen wall
Did I miss the refrigerator?
@@AnontheGOAT my bad. One of those days.
Can you review the Coleman Lantern LT 17B?
think i could pull it with my 2018 dodge caravan? minivan
This would be nice to pull behind my Suburban. I could stay longer (cost wise) at my brother's and not have the motel expense.
Let me know where I can buy one for $12k. Everywhere I’ve checked $19k or higher. Love your videos.
Yea crazy price back then. I thing wrong.
2024 now maybe used price
Thats so similar to the coachman catalina summit 172bh im looking at!
Could you do a video on a shadow cruiser rv?
I like seeing cheaper units, especially bunkhouses.
Very nice. I like.
Could a Forester outback tow it?
JD, can you please do a segment featuring tire pressure, OEM and on upgraded tires such as G range. For both RVs and truck......please. The amount of misinformation is crazy.
Get rid of the bunks or make the front bed a couch. Too much sleeping space. Nice counter space though.
No refrigerator?
