It's pretty wild that the short "What it's like being an Amazon driver" was suggested and it's how I found your channel then the second video I see when I check your page is "why I left Amazon" lol
Hey Bria, fellow Saia city driver here welcome to the team! I've been with Saia for over 12 years, it's a good company to work for imo. LTL has its own set of challenges and it may take some time to adjust, but once you do it's like riding a bike. If city life doesn't suit you, you can always transfer to linehaul. All our linehaul drivers at my terminal make over $100k but they do work nights. I avg about $88k in the city at about 50 hrs a week and off every weekend. Best of luck to you, looking forward to your further adventures!
I personally want to encourage you to also post your art on this channel. Since you told us you were an artist, I am really excited about seeing your great works. Thanks!
I do LTL local P&D as well. I got very lucky and got this job right out of trucking school. Basically I jumped in the deep end of the pool right off the bat, so it's been stressful, but I drove with other drivers for the first four weeks and they taught me a lot. I've been doing it 4 months now, and have learned so much in that 4 months that I feel like I probably have the skills of an average 2 year experience OTR driver. One piece of advice I can give is that when you have a bunch of stops in a day and it seems overwhelming, just take it one step at a time and focus on the current stop. Especially when while you're driving on tight roads and backing in tight spots, make sure that you're 100% focused in the moment. Also, getting phone numbers of some more experienced drivers at your company can be helpful. I have drivers who I can call if I am unsure about the best way to get to a place I've never been to. Even if you have a good Trucking GPS, you can't always trust it. Sometimes they will steer you wrong..
Excellent post brother, I'm 5 years into the LTL game up here in Canada. Calling more experienced guys is my biggest resurce! Even after 5 years, I still call the 20-30 year guys.
Purely my own personal opinion. There's no way I'd go through the hard ships involved in getting a Class A CDL to work for $20-28/hr with all the rules and regulations Amazon has for their freight partners. Not even including the regulations within the trucking industry itself. I've had my CDL for years and out of curiosity, I did some homework on the AFPs in my area aswell as elsewhere. Come to find out, those drivers are immensely underpaid for what's expected of them. Top it off, they don't pay for experienced drivers. They tend to appeal to and pay people brand new to the business who don't know any better, no offense to you. Regardless if you're dropping and hooking or throwing cases (food service), it takes a special kind of person to do this job and to do it for an extended period of time. Right now, with the way things are moving I'd recommend getting your hazmat, tanker and doubles endorsements to set you apart from the competition because that's where the money is.
I agree Amazon freight partners is great for right out of school but if you have experience or all your endorsements you can go so ltl or do tanker and make more money and less stress
You have come such a long way. I am so proud of you! Seeing how you are so confident, knowing how to recognize your goals, and able to move out of your comfort zone. Keep it up.
Congrats Bria! I've been looking into SAIA too, open position where my residence is at. Says min 1 year only at 4months. Glad to hear you like it. Doubles look fun
Ive been an LTL city driver for 22 years with ODFL and it’ can be flat out stressful and brutal. If you are looking to further your skill set, you’ve certainly come to the right place. However, you have a positive attitude and seemed to be safety focused in your videos and i think you will do just fine. Best of luck.

Good to see you doing well out here, and congrats on your job at Saia. Don't let these other drivers get you down, keep doing your thing young lady and be safe there, from a 24 year driver!!
Congratulations on the new job. LTL to me is on of the best jobs as a CDL driver, it can be challenging at times but very rewarding. Can’t wait to see the new content.
Doubles will definitely be a change of pace. Saia is a good company to work for from what I’ve heard. Don’t let backing that dolly up get to you. Little movements in the steering wheel is key.
I worked at Saia for 18 years and left for UPS, I was city and line, take your time, you can do 1 stop at a time. Any questions don't hesitate to ask a fellow driver or dispatch. You will do just fine, oh, and no tailgating, those camera's will catch you, LOL. Keep your head high.
Congrats on the new job! I've heard so many good things about Saia, similarly to Estes, and I'm hoping to land a position with either of the two in the future myself. Keep up the great work dude

Congratulations on your new position at Saia, I recently graduated a month ago and I am having a few challenges finding a position. I would like to work for any company that is a bit smaller but I am hearing that only the mega's have the insurance to employ recent grads. Amazon's benefits are almost unmatched by any employer but longevity n having a sustainable career in your profession in your position does not last with amazon without oneself going for an area manager position. Or TAM. That being said. You hit a ceiling once you got about a year or 2 doing hoskter moves runs outside the yard all that. N the only way they give you raises is when amazon increases the wage
Thats cool that you left for more experiences. As a 16 year driver ive pretty much done it all and im ready to just have a easy simple home every day job.
I'm a disabled veteran in my 30s and I'm planning on getting my CDL soon. With my disabilities, I think a job dropping and hooking might be the easiest route for me to start, or even stay there. What do you think? Is Amazon a good place to start? I live in Sacramento btw

Bria Trucking Good Luck to You. It is understandable why You would leave Amazon and You have a great reason. Your Experience is the key to everything, so of course having all of your endorsements it makes perfect sense that You would gain more experience and make more money. I am sure at Saia You will start out pulling doubles and using your tanker and Haz Mat endorsement, that is going to be great experience for any job. Frankly, I love pulling and breaking doubles and wish more companies used them but You have shown that You have what it takes to be a commercial driver, SO Good, Take It Easy and be safe and never let anybody RUSH YOU.
