I'm a TA (Transportation Associate) For Amazon. I'm either manning the guard shack or driving the yard dog. At 6:30 in the video I heard the little chime noise that tells us there's a trailer move in the system. I actually looked down for a second thinking I had a move. Then I realized, I'm at my house. But these rules are accurate. I see so many drivers not following these rules. I'd be doing like 12-14 MPH in the yard jockey and have a box truck hauling ass riding the bumper of my trailer. Then I have to have a little talk with the dude.
I am telling you see over the road how the 3rd party owner operators that pull Amazon trailers they drive like a bat out of hell. Cut out in front of other drivers!
@@amtraktraveler9118 I've seen them. A lot of these guys suck. The owner/operators aren't that bad from what I have seen personally. But Let me tell you, My trailer yard at amazon, we always have to put in a case to get a work order to have a trailer repaired, whether it be tires or something else. They beat the hell out of our trailers.
@@colindavis2166 That doesn’t surprise me in the least! I saw an Amazon driver at a Pilot who went in an asked if someone could back his trailer in his parking spot cause he couldn’t.
@@amtraktraveler9118 oh yeah. Amazon just goes with the 3rd party companies that they don’t have to pay out the ass to haul across the country. Inexperienced drivers. I get that they try but like they need more training. On closed yards. I’ve been asked in the yard jockey to back up some guys trailer. I always say, “that’s part of your job description. I will gladly spot for you though.” Just yesterday I had to back a UPS next to a ups hooking up with the driver staring me down. Backed it in 1 shot and I got the look from the driver that was like nice. I’ve only been a yard jockey since February with little to no experience backing trailers. And I’m already good at it. I had lots of help from my dad who retired from driving daycabs
One time in Salt Lake City I hooked up when the light turned green, then the light turned red!! Someone tried to set me up! I immediately ran and told one of the holsters and someone on the dock had forgot to load a package! Go figure! 🙄
Never hook up to a red light! Best not be ban right...! Even when yard marshall and transportation said my trailer is good to go I get there and it's still red I just go back and let them know it's still flashing red, they just say oops sorry forgot and switch it green for me.
I've been hostling trailers For 14 years you do not make up time speeding You make up your time what's You're hooked up so you're on hooks then when you're parking a trailer no exactly where you are going to put it on top of that I can par a hole the 1st time 99 out of a 100 times Also always keep up on your job
Don’t rush us out then, Sometimes we wait two to be three hours before our load is ready then we go to hook up and y’all want to come up to us and tell us how you got five minutes and we’re supposed to respect you guys after having to wait 2 to 3 hours.
One thing I would change with that list, I would flip one and two. We can sort of let you go with the speeding as long as it is not ridiculous, now red lights, that is almost an insta ban, and even for the jockeys that is a last or a termination.
Bro please help him with that pronaunciation it had me so.confuse, or was he nervous he was goin to be in RUclips videos? 😊 thanks that was very informative info to know.
Some sites are different. Mine is 4 days on 3 days off (unless they call mandatory overtime or of course if you want overtime) 10 hour days. night shifts for different sites have varying differential pay. My site offer 21.60 an hour. (just a lil insight)
Good videos. I’d like to know how hard it is for a 20+ year driver to get on with Amazon as a company driver doing drop and hooks in a day cab. I’d probably be out of DCA1. I hear demand for them is really high.
For the most part, Amazon drivers are proprietary Transportation Associates trained from the ground up. They don't want anyone driving their trucks to be stuck in bad habits. Also, what's good from mco5, Shawn?!
I have a driver that just backed up into a door and he hooked up the trailer that had a red light. He says they took a picture of my truck. Do you have any suggestions?
Per Amazon policy, first and second offense should be a driver couching, third offense should be a ban. Unless they hooked up and pulled on a red and there was an Amazon associate inside. Granted, that's per policy but not every site follows it and does things differently.
Rule #1 Fluent English is mandatory if you don't want drivers to misunderstand you and make a mistake. I have worked with a Mexican supervisor. He has a great heart but damn i have made mistakes because his English is terrible. Now go ahead and tell me I'm racist. 😂
Shawn, with the driver that was suspended for hooking up a trailer to a door with a red light did they suspend your driver on the spot? How do they do this while the driver is on the yard?
I was inside the building in a similar situation (as Ship Clerk). The TDR person locked the dock lock while a TA was still hooked up. The TDR person spotted it immediately and got on the radio asking for safety. He also left his hostler and came inside the building for some reason. The TDR person got a final written warning, but she decided to just turn in her TDR vest and never do TDR again (I don't blame her).
Hey got a question if one of y’all could give me an answer I’ll appreciate it so I’m in retraining rn and I hit something with a trailer “not damaged as been done to the trailer do you think I’ll get a write up, kicked off the team or they’ll excuse it because it was training
Hey Shawn I’m seeming the prices plummeting in my area, think it’s something to wait out due to over saturated market with so much owner ops on amazon.
Honestly, when I hear all these things I wouldn't even want to work for a company like Amazon. Nothing can happen when you hook up to a trailer with people on or in it. We do it all the time. Just don't drive off. Jard dogs may drive faster than outsiders? I don't see why, how that is fair, and why the are considered better drivers. Lastly, this forced over-exagerrated friendliness is not necessary, if I just want to say "Hi" with a grumpy face that should be ok. If the load isn't ready, I as a driver lose time and therefore money, and is is 100% the fault of Amazon. It means they did not work fast enough, or don't have enough employees. When I as a driver am late, the blame falls on me, so why not blame Amazon for not having the load ready in time? Like your vids though, keep it up. Just my view on the Amazon policies.
#1 Red light hooking when people are in a trailer is a safety concern and Amazon has every right to enforce no hooking on red. #2 Yard dogs drive faster than you does not have to be fair, life is not fair. #3 If you want trailers to be ready on your time then you will always be disappointed, Amazon could care less about your time. The trailer leaves when it leaves. If you don't want it there are others who do. #4 Your late because you do not plan your time or your route.
Number 6: Don't film videos on Amazon property lmao Just kidding, good advise. I start tomorrow after about 6 months of being on the other side of the radio as a Ship Clerk!
