@@autumntx managing a gas pump would mean theyd need vendors for gasoline and a whole set of people dedicated to fuelling. i work as a mechanic for a truck leasing agency, our location has our own diesel, def, and gas pumps to service customers/drivers and i can tell you now it loses money just to maintain the infrastructure and keep buying the fuels and fluid to fill it compared to simply handing a driver a fuel card for the local speedway. Ha ehh, idk about brutal. The associates that work at the delivery stations have it brutal lol. But it's all some form of team work in the end so whatever
-for example i have to get a 60yr old woman to run across the warehouse to collect and put his route together for delivery. She needs to complete it in X amount time and those totes can get pretty darn heavy for even a fit young man. She has to do at least 4 of these routes and that's after already working for 6hrs unloading, sorting, and stowing all the packages for the day. Modern day/ western sweatshop
But without drivers customers wouldn't get packages. Without warehouse associates drivers wouldn't get packages. Team work!

@@LaosHouse Definitely can confirm about FedEx lol. My truck is loaded for me every morning, although some mornings my truck is a complete disaster and I have to reorganize the entire thing anyways lol. I'm lucky to where I can start my day pretty much whenever as long as my timed deliveries are met and most days I am done before 4pm. Other drivers in my hub don't get back until well after 6 since they have heavy business routes with 5pm pickups, so I would say I lucked out.

Since we start at around 8:50 - 9 AM after sort is done, and the first wave of drivers isn't until 9:30-ish. At most we have around 4 people each, on our two launchpads helping with load out. I asked ups workers. And they said that things are changing. They are consolidating stops. They also start you at 17.50 an hour as a driver. I make a lot more than that at Amazon. And the packages that we have are not as heavy. And I also heard that for you to make more money you need to be there for some time. That is what they call it a progression period. And someone who works for ups told me that that progression period is either 2 or 4 years.

@haralabosmihalis You are getting wrong info. Part time truck loaders make more then $17 an hour. You start at $24 an hour as a driver and hit $50 an hour after 4 years. Not just the pay but UPS spends 50k a year on amazing benefits! Don't waste your time doing the same work for way less money! I'm making more retired on a UPS pension then most people make working.

@ since I started with Amazon they have made so many changes. They got so much better. We got our wages increased. We got retirement benefits. So things got so much better since two years ago. The work load got lighter. They added more routes on each dsp for Christmas. I also heard that ups will not keep the union after 5 years. I read that on the internet. You can't always ask for help and your coworkers cant help you. Doesnt that give you any anxiety? What about driving in so many different places? Do you ever worry about crashing the van. Driving that close to people in a van would stress me out ontop of not knowing where to put a package in a big building would give me an unbearable amount of anxiety, plus being pushed to go faster by your boss. He said he had been to NYC once.
Pull up apartments in chicago homie, i’ll just say it’s hardly comparable to those other 3 cities.
The vast majority of people who live in the other 3 most certainly do not make 7 let alone 6 figures. To answer the question about nyc specifically, you would most likely need to move to an outer bureau, have roomates, or rent “creatively”.
If there is a will, there is a way.

Wrapping the seatbelt over the wheel is what a lot of us do in the EDVs as well. I recommend actually wearing the seatbelt properly tho, especially since you have more consequences for any infractions you get with a DOT cert. Pretty much the only meaningful advantage of the EDVs other than COOOLLLD A/C and cooled seats is you mostly get the StepVan experience without needing the cert since the vehicle weighs like, 9000 lbs I believe?

We don't have the P700 bread trucks but we did have smaller steps vans with the same back door latch. They used to give us gas cards, but drivers weren't putting accurate mileage in or saving recipients, and gas theft got bad. We have a company that comes at night. BTW, Amazon states not to put the package directly in front of the door. Between porch pirates and the package being in the open, to people not being able to open the door or stepping on them. Plus if you give it to someone you need a name and a signature.

For the USPS we have to scan every individual Amazon/USPS barcode and our scanner will say a sequence number 1-1200 based on the house number. We then write that number on the white paper sticker and then organize thee lower numbers towards the front as we drive our daily routes. Usually we get 2 tubs of boxes/packages, some routes that are larger get 3 tubs.

I'm a former Amazon Driver, now Class A driver. I have so many positive memories from that time. The step vans were always my favorite with the electric vans in close second. The rush of loading my van and getting all my packages organized always got me pumped for the day. 180 stops... just relaxing and taking it at my pace. Making people smile, getting snacks and water from kind customers. Petting dogs and cats (if safe enough). Getting done between 5:30 and 6pm. Everyday was a new exciting challenge.
Thank you for bringing back my nostalgia. Keep up the awesome work and stay safe out there! 💙

@@MaeNeb it’s hell. I’m expected to do 25-30 stops per hour in a suburban/rural area where about 40% of the customers just leave their dogs out waiting to attack, lots of trump supporters, every single driveway is either half a mile long or more with gravel, I still have a sprained ankle and I’ve been working about a month, I haven’t taken a break since the first week I worked, I get in trouble for “moving too slow” everytime I take a break to pee, it’s genuinely impossible to hit their expectations in this town that I work in. And our dsp hits us with violations if we go over 5 mph over the speed limit so if you’re in a 25mph neighborhood, regardless of how open the road is or how much you’re being pressured you’re either in trouble for “moving slow” or for driving too fast. The pay is trash, it’s 22 an hour but the fact that I get rushed to finish a 150 route stop within 4 hrs makes it impossible to get anything more than 25 hrs a week, and I’m about to get fired because someone attacked my van but they’re pinning the blame on me because I didn’t immediately report, I texted as soon as it happened and tried to continue with my route because I was already behind. It’s not a good job.

@@MaeNeb not to mention that the phones we get don’t last more than 4 hrs into my route and glitch all the time so I’m wasting at least half an hour overall on every route between dealing w the app glitching, the gps taking me down the wrong driveway or wrong direction, the camera phasing out right before taking a picture, or having to call customers to put their dogs inside with no replies, it’s just ass
