One big drawback to the EDV is that driving faster on the highway drains the battery faster, and the heating also takes away range. My DSP is pretty good about switching my route in the country for a route in the city so that I can stay in the EDV, and the step van driver can have an easy day.
Even though I get put in the city, I still have a bit of a commute to make on the highway. I just stay on the service road or a boulevard heading the same direction. Saves me about 50 miles

Super Rural zone for me - Amazon Flex. During a recent storm 4 hour blocks were going for $180, and *nobody* took them. That should say enough about how Super Rural zones are handled here! The station never closes even when multiple roads are closed, but the Flex drivers here have learned the hard way that it's not worth wrecking one's car or getting stuck for hours for any money! Especially since we still get punished for returned packages!

    • @LaosHouse

As a van driver you flex guys don’t get enough credit, it’s super sketchy driving personal cars since everyone nowadays are so quick to violence on anyone trespassing and lots of people don’t even know what flex is yet. Stay safe if your still doin it bro

    • @thebrickhiker
      @thebrickhiker 3 месяца назад

@@saxo7667 True, but if a DSP ever took over, I honestly don't see how any of the step vans could make it on these roads. UPS out here has a special rigged up 4x4 truck with a tall container on the back of it - very funky [recently got a pic of one], and their step vans only deliver to places they've already "blessed" as safe. There's a lot of places where residents have to go into town to the UPS Store to pick up their packages because their vehicles simply can't make it.
That said, Southern Hostility is definitely reserved for us Flex drivers. Our station recently gave out giant magnets that say Amazon Flex on them. I use 6 magnets that say Deliver Driver on them as nobody here has a clue what Flex means and having our "unmarked" cars drive the 1/4 mile up their driveway w/o cell service and off leash dogs and owners coming out with side arms, is always an interesting experience. I even bought - on eBay! - an Amazon DSP ball cap that matches the DSP/Flex vests we wear. I have my blinkers on when I'm coming up onto their property...everyone just assumes the worst. :(

The slippery stairs are not a problem for us because the owner of the house has to ensure that the paths in his house are de-iced. The city has to do everything else like sidewalks. Its because of Murphy and his incompetence on Nov. 15, 2018.
One cannot overstate just how ridiculous that was. We had warnings for a snowstorm, Murphy wanted to save on the budget and was gambling the snow storm wouldn't come. He told all salts and plows to stay off the road over night. Come morning it was clear by the snow in NY/CT/MA north NJ was going to get hit hard. Murphy still had stand down order and did not authorize emergency vehicles to treat the roads. He did not give them the authorization until close to 12 pm. By that time it was way too late and was one of the worst storms for accidents we had ever seen.
Peak snowfall wasn't even 6 inches.
Why did Murphy not give an order until nearly 12 pm? He was out partying like it was NYE on November 14th, 2018 in AC and hung over. Now he is as quick as can be to declare state of emergencies.

Very different delivery method to Europe - here the delivery men always ring the doorbell and hand it over in person. Signatures are not always required, but very rarely is the parcel left on the doorsteps. If noone is home, then usually the package is dropped off at the nearest postal office and a note is left to the owner to go and pick it up.

The biggest reason why delivery drivers in the US struggle in snowy conditions is because of the lack of Winter tires on their vehicles. I live in Norway and right now we have gotten 1.5m of snow to even 2m in some places of the country. I delivered mail and packages for about 2 years and the winter definitely had its beat on me. Luckily for me we had to use our personal cars which meant I had good tires for the conditions so it didn’t really suck to drive and have gotten through everything. ( I use studded winter tires on my 4wd Audi )
Sooo when I heard you say 3 inches and state of emergency, I thought it was a joke in the start 😅 maybe that is something the US could improve on and take from us European countries. Either way, this was definitely an interesting video. Keep up the good work!

Watching from the UK as a delivery driver, I can't believe you can just dump the packages on someone's porch/front door take a pic and that's it "delivered", without knocking on the customers door and hand them the parcel.
No wonder so many porch pirates steal packages, you are literally leaving it for ANYONE to take, HOW is this a secure delivery????

I used to work as a delivery driver in the city. Black fridays and christmas time was the worst. Wasn't always enojyable running 10 flights of stairs hauling anywhere from 1 to 200 pounds 8 hours a day with my socks wet. 10 inches of snow outside. It was mad. Delivering to suburbs was chill though. At least I didn't have to go to the gym afterwards.

What's great about deliveries in the US is, you don't wait for anyone to "receive" the package. You just drop and go. And you can even double park? Holy cow. If it were me, I'd be done with the truckload in half a day.

I don't know if it's just me, but I've been noticing that working conditions at Amazon have been on an incline since late last year. I have several friends that started to work there in the never-ending job-hopping adventure, and they're genuinely happy. One of them is taking it so seriously that he's trying to work his way up the robotics division out in Nevada. He was changed over from being a chutes guy to an engineer and even got to name one of the lil pallet bots. He called it "Tiny Cat"
