A genocide run in Deltarune Chapter 2 is very real and very much possible to do yourself. I have put together another video detailing how to trigger the run, as well as anything interesting that I found while recording it. There is a link in the description of this video. i think undertale they took it as a parody, although i was quite disappointed when metatton said they didn't work much on defenses.
Metatton did say that alphys ran out of time and couldn't work on the defenses.

Such a weird route. You never saw Spamton in his normal form before and he just suddenly took control of the mansion and pops out of nowhere in his Neo form as final boss. Contrary to the pacifist route where it builds-up Spamton as character
Following the tradition of the genocide route in Undertale. It was pretty bad at introducing the characters as well. It's implied to be something you do after you beat it the pacifist way.
Well for a killer, what would it matter to them?
Considering the hoops you've got to go through to unlock this, it's fair to expect the player to know about Spamton from a prior save

i was wondering why the spamton neo fight was significantly easier than jevil and then i stumbled upon this
Jevils second carousel attack is still a pain tho ( the first carousel attack is easy tho )
i honestly think spamton is harder, but that might just be because i've replayed chapter 1 so many times that jevil is a piece of cake for me
jevil's fight is harder because youre forced to use 50% tp w/ all party members an awful lot of times to beat him on pacifist (im not sure about beating him by using attacks, didnt try this one, but i assume its significantly easier, unless if jevil has an awful lot of hp). honestly spamton's attacks are harder than jevils (except for the 2nd variation of jevil's scythe attack, fuck that attack), but jevil as a fight is harder because it stricts you so much. Now spamton from genocide puts the limitations of jevil's fight to shame and forces you to dominate almost all attacks if you wanna take a turn to beat him, although it is shorter and you can finish it without even seeing the ultimate attack that takes the entire screen.
@@czsgenesis the most underrated way of beating jevil is just repeatedly using pirouette until he gets tired. it's risky because it's RNG and might mix you up or buff jevil but that's part of the fun factor, and it's a lot less constricting than using up 50% tp with all party members. i honestly sometimes feel like im the only one who even uses pirouette lol.

But when i first played deltarune i thought spamton was a genocide only boss so i played snowgrave first before realizing this is also a side quest boss in pacifist

I’m wondering, is it possible to get the shadow crystal for spamton neo in a genocide/weird route?
@@Crumbvee Yep I beat the boss and received the shadow crystal, always getting those in every single route because they will most likely unlock a secret ending.
Yes you will get a shadow crystal for beating spamton neo on the snowgrave route. You will also receive the puppet scarf just like how you can for fighting him in the main route. So yeah, you will still obtain a shadow crystal from Neo and since you did fight him here with violencein snowgrave, you will get the puppet scarf once again.

In the last phase of the fight when you call for Susie or Ralsei it says:
*Kris* called for help...
but when you call for Noelle it says:
*You* whispered Noelle's name
I shiver

It would be pretty cool if Noelle teamed with a future antagonist to stop Kris and the team in the genocide route
There's even a "but nobody came" reference from undertale

Spamton speaking in all caps and barely any punctuation is silly at first, but his line "OH RIGHT.. THAT'S WHY I SOLD IT TO YOU " really gets me. I have no idea why.
Okay - from a game design standpoint, I have to say that this is pretty smart, making the genocide boss and the pacifist bonus boss functionally identical. A lot of people went out of their way to do Undertale's genocide route specifically because they wanted to fight Sans, and that was the only way to do so without mods/hacks. Locking a fun fight behind that route made a lot of people take it who otherwise wouldn't, which probably isn't what the developer wanted to have happen.
But here, the fight is basically the same - harder, yes, but only because you are fighting by yourself instead of in a group. But, aside from some dialogue, you aren't really missing anything if you don't go this way - in fact, you're actually missing out on the Queen's fight (and a few mini bosses) instead, just to see this version.
It's always been clear that the game steers you towards the pacifist route, but now there's even less reason to go for genocide unless you genuinely just want to see that story.

Like Undertale where there were only 2 battles that you actually "fight" which are Undyne and Sans, while in the pacifist route you have a lot of bonus battles
@@ambiorsmo Exactly - the developers aren't interested in rewarding players who choose to go on the genocide path with fun battles, so most of them are outright skipped or over almost immediately in Undertale. Undyne and Sans were the exceptions, one for story reasons (as the hero trying to save everyone from us) and the other to punish the player with a purposely unfair and frustrating fight (though I do think that was a bit of a mistake, because many people just took it as a challenge).

I honestly disagree, having 2 different routes with different bosses and interactions seems much better because if not the the route you choose doesn't really matter gameplay wise

I actually don't think...Noelle showed up. I think Kris actually did it himself. Like hes actually taking in his friends power and making it his own, especially since that attack hit 3 times, not 1 like noelle normally does.

@@indie_gamer7 sure its the magic sound effect, but how do we know its *her* magic sound effect. Its probably just the ice magic sound effect in general. Also, snow grave has a full blizzard animation and it still only hits for 1 time.

Ok but the “nobody came” stuff as well as his own self reflection about how nobody will answer when Kris calls for help gave me a throwback to omega flowey tbh. I’m surprised nobody has pointed that out yet.
The mini blue Spamton heads during the neo fight also shoot friendliness pellets. So maybe Flowey is also linked to Spamton.
Also the song Digital Roots (that really creepy music that plays in the place where Spamton NEO battle takes place) is basically the start of Your Best Nightmare but really slow
@@cgimichaelmyers2806 Spamton NEO as a whole is the most Undertale-feeling boss in all of Deltarune, there’s the fact that he wants your soul to achieve freedom, and that his song reuses UT leitmotifs.
What the hell does this mean for future chapters and the ending of the game as a whole? Is there going to be some crazy route that requires specific actions in each of the 7 chapters?
Either that or get all the Shadow Shards, maybe that’s an entire different route for chapter 7?
It might factor into the finale, but overall I doubt Berdly being alive/dead'll matter much to the overall plot.

@@sansundertale8765 It's almost certain that he is, why didn't he wake up when the fountain disappeared, especially since he wakes up in the regular route? Why would Toby make the change of him staying asleep if it wasn't to mean he's very clearly dead? He's dead, and the player's actions killed him.

Ralsei said you need all three heroes to close the fountains and yet you NEVER actually done this in full party. In both chapters you did this with Kris and Susie, and here you even do this alone.
More than that, it seems all you need to close it is soul, and the fact you increase your LV only when you do this no matter how pacifist you are is very sus

When Ralsei said that, he probably meant "you need all three heroes to help you close the fountains" as in, you need Susie and Ralsei's help to get there, and you do.
...Except in this run, but I don't think Ralsei could have predicted this.
I think he's DEFINITELY hiding things, whether or not he's hiding things for the sake of the team has yet to be seen, but I don't think he meant that you need all three members to do the actual sealing of it, he meant everyone works together to get to the fountain and seal it.
If there’s gonna be more genocide in the remaining chapters, I wonder if Noelle will have something to do with them.

@@arek.k8688 i think both ways are interesting tbh, on one hand manipulating different people into killing is interesting because we'll have to do it differently each time, whereas if we keep doing it with Noelle it will be just as interesting because shes not following us into each dark world, we will have to find a way to get her there.

my first time ever seeing NEO was at the end of the genocide run, i missed him in the basement and this was quite the shock

Fun Fact: The part near the very beginning where the text box says "THE SMOOTH TASTE OF NEO "WAKE UP AND TASTE THE PAIN", I am almost 99% sure this is a reference to a buggy test room in Undertale, where "wake up and SMELL the pain" was used. Again, could be a coincidence but I think otherwise.
Is kinda ironic that, the secret boss for a normal route, is the last boss in the "snowgrave" route, but still, is a nice touch and help to make the finale of a route not boring!

@@blackknight8643 well jevil and spamton aren't actually hard , it's just that they are the only bosses that have a chance of killing compare to the rest of the game since in deltarune it's so much harder to die than in undertale
I didn't die at all in chapter 2 until I fought spamton neo and died twise and finally saw the gameover screen for the first time , i was surprised by it

this fight is when i realize i could use charge attacks with the yellow heart, something *I CLEARLY FORGOT DURING MY PACIFIST RUN* but hey, at least i remembered after 3 deaths, still, it took me like 10 tries do defeat Snowgrave Spamton, i feel like half of my death was just bad Luck, considering how many of his attack literally cornered me with no escape (especially this 2:47) or my bullets literally fails at one millimeter of the hitbox and not forget after 2 deaths i realized i could use act to double damage Spamton, but hey, it wasn't that bad)
this battle took me hard for being my first time and alone, i beated Jevil in my first try before playing chapter 2, i felt like Jevil fight could be x10 harder than this if Kris was alone like this one

There's a sound effect/ distorsion of the mysic right before the battle only in the weird route
1:04 wake up and taste the pain was the same line from that weird test room in undertale.

if the character of the fight was a more serious one, this would be amazing
Noelle was doing a little LV and XP farming.
i thought "how the actual FUCK am i supposed to dodge this???" and then beat it third try. i think i got hit only once by the attack with the heart out, even though i was focusing more on aiming at the heart then anything. i think this is one of those cases where a boss is designed to look a lot harder then it actually is, to make it feel more intense and make you feel more proud of beating it... or maybe im just good, but idk. i doubt im good, i couldn't even no hit sans.
Hm. I think this fight is meant to be kinda underwhelming compared to the Queen's final fight. You can only fight Spamton if you really go out of your way to step into a trap in pacifist (when you definitely have more important things to do) or actually go for genocide (which - no need to explain why that's not the preferred path). It's still a pretty cool battle, but Jevil was definitely more difficult and more entertaining.
@@qwerty3793 i'd say jevil was harder then spamton neo, but spamton neo is definitely WAY more intense and difficult then the queen in my opinion. with the queen final fight, i didnt drop a single party member once, i dont think any of them ever went below half hp. here, i died twice. and its just way more chaotic bullet hell, more chaos in general.
@@Deltexterity Oh, I meant the final robot fight against the queen, not the one with Berdly and the wine glass shield. I guess Spamton still wins in terms of intensity and difficulty, but the robot fight is much more dramatic and interesting, at least to me.
@@qwerty3793 the final robot fight is even less interesting to be honest. the only reason its difficult is because its mechanics we aren't familiar with, if i had the same amount of practice with those types of fights as i have with normal fights i'd nearly no-hit it. its just a lot more tame, even the music is more tame.
@@Deltexterity Fair enough, I guess. Might be a little biased - I'm a fan of Punch Out style fights, and I like when games try to mix it up with different fighting rules, but I can see why people might not enjoy it as much. Spamton's still a solid fight, I just enjoyed the robot one more.

@@productions1203 according to undertale lore, monsters "fall down" before they die, they turn comatose. very concerning
The theme of Deltarune's "point of no return" jives well with the fact that most monsters who fall down almost always die. Thing is, is in the Dark World, Berdly is still frozen and might still be saved by breaking that ice if the next chapter allows it. Therefore truly contradicting the "you have no choice" theme pushed to the player in the first game. You always have a choice.
