We choked in 2020, 2022, and 2024. We can’t trash talk the Dodgers and call them chokers anymore. We talk a big game and showboat with the antics but can’t back it up on the field. Pathetic and embarrassing.

What a sore loser way. The Padres bring in Tatis, Machado, Soto, Cease, Snell….. and STILL cry that the Dodgers bring in all the big names and that they’re boring. Are you seriously still crying small market tears? C’mon.
The Dodgers just outplayed your cocky, immature, selfish players and outsmarted by management. For believing in the law of averages you would think you would believe in karma. Maybe next time don’t celebrate your players being douchebags.
Btw, the media WAS choosing the Padres.

The Dodgers were crushed by injuries to their pitching staff more than any team in recent memory. Still, they finished ahead of the Padres by 5 games over a 162 game season, with a run differential of more than 60 runs. That’s the same run differential difference as the Mets and the Giants. In addition, the Dodgers beat the Padres in a best out of five series, shutting them out over the last 24 innings. Anything other than, we got beat by the better team is the only reasonable response.

The Mets who beat us in the season's series and had a similar mojo to the Pads went 9 innings straight runless against an LA pitching staff with continuing MOJO. This WAS NOT a Padre letdown problem but an LA, historic, execution achievement. That's baseball.

I'm not a fan of Dodgers or Padres, but my perception of Dodgers over this past decade, is they are an underachieving team in the playoffs. That perception was there prior to the past couple seasons of Dodgrrs choking in the playoffs to teams Dodgers owned in the regular season.
Mets had one bad day of hitting. Talk about overreatimg to just 1 game. Mets are not the Padres. They got 6 runs through 6 innings today.

24 innings. Javi it’s your boy Ray in SD. Bro I went to game 2 in LA. Then I went to game 4 in SD. Think about that. From the epic highs of us winning 10-2 (15 friends mobbing together to LA) the Tatis HR, sad Dodgers fans throwing drinks onto the field, the Manny thing, etc to the lows of game 4 where I left a playoff game in the 7th. Then because self-flagellation seemed like a good idea, me and 6 friends went to the watch party for game 5 at Petco Park. Gallagher Square packed to the gills. And we all watched these players embarrass our city for the final time this year. I don’t want to see a padres hat or jersey till April.

The Dodgers' pitching kept rolling against the Mets in Game 1, so it's not just us. As much as I hate to give L.A. any credit, credit to their relief pitching is due.
What our team needs to understand is what led to the dramatic downward shift in offense, so that they can fight off similar droughts in the future. Sure, some of it is just baseball (not a "curse" or silly conspiracy, just the nature of the game), but there have to be some technical adjustments we can make going forward.
So for now, go Mets and #LFGSD in 2025!

This was not a great game to end on and there were three things that bummed me out and got me disappointed:
-It seemed like every time the Padres hit a long ball the warning track, it seemed to die in the air and was an easy catch for the Dodgers. The two home runs that the Dodgers hit seemed like they would die instantly and they carried.
-Darvish was pitching his butt off and only allowed three or four hits the entire game and the offense just could not help him
-This has been mentioned before probably on other shows and other times, but Manny needs to stop trying to reach for pitches. People know what pitches he always swings at and by now he should know that. Stop trying to swing at garbage pitches.
Oh no, it was a season that people thought was gonna be a rebuilding season and we went further than that. I don’t know how the rookie of the year voting is going to go, but I think that with Merrill being on a team that went to the postseason that he should have the upper hand

To the Padres, thanks for a great and entertaining season. Reload for next year, it's too bad a number of popular players probably won't be signed next year and each and every one of them deserve thanks, too.
I firmly believe that the Padres fell short of a number of goals this year mainly for 3 coaching decisions. For all the risky decisions that went right, it's too bad if the reasons were all that made the razor thin differences.
    1. Merrill being my ved up in the order. It's notable that Merrill moved up only the next spot from 6th to 5th but it had an enormous effect on overall productivity by eliminating the gap after Manny and losing a productive bat in the bottom third of the lineup . The top half of the lineup productivity didn't improve noticeably and the bottom half died, eliminating the feature that made the Padres offense unique.
    2. Cease' Game 1 failure in the NLDS was easy to anticipate although never a certainty. Cease experienced the same failure a number of times in the regular season and never fixed... His only weapon is 97 mph fastball he can throw every inning but if the other team can hit his fastball, he doesn't have an alternative approach. As more pitchers can throw fastballs approaching 100 mph, more teams will invest in pitching machines that can get batters used to that speed and Cease will lose effectiveness if he doesn't evolve.
So it turns out that the Padres coaches never had a backup plan for Cease and even squeezed him in pitching Game 4 in short rest putting the Padres on the edge of elimination.
    3. The coaches damaged the Padres offense in other ways than moving Merrill up in the order. Starting with Tatis return, the team batting approach changed both subtlety and materially. Tatis is a very different hitter than whoever he replaced(several players were plugged in). Tatis doesn't walk often so the team was losing OBA while gaining slugging. The chemistry changed radically and everything hung on whether Tatis hit or not. Tatis presents a conundrum, there is the school of thought you put your best hitters at the top of your lineup to give them maximum chances of extra at bats as the lineup is turned over but it can change the productivity and roles each batter plays in the lineup and the situations they'll face. U really believe Tatis is much better placed immediately behind Machado if you have two good leadoff hitters like Arraez and Profar.
It's possible to pick on other things like whether Machado should produce better than "only" a ,400-.500 rate in RBI situations and if Suarez is the closer we expect(I personally thought he did a fine job this year).
The difference between moving and losing the NLDS this year was a fine line but the Padres just didn't have the answers this year

It’s ironic all the trash talking we do to Dodgers fans about choking in the playoffs and yet we have silently become the chokers and joke of baseball. We talk a big game and showboat with the antics and histrionics yet we choked in 2020, 2022, and now in 2024. We can’t talk anymore until we accomplish and win something. We don’t have any division titles, pennants, or WS championships but we act like we have it all.

  • @MovieFanZ89

    Two things I’ll say:
-If the Dodgers had done the tongue wag thing just like they did their weird celebration after a home run then the media would be loving it and talk about how fun the Dodgers are and all that.
-if the Dodgers have thrown a ball into the Padres bullpen and the Padres had reacted, just like the Dodgers did, everybody would be saying that they are overreacting and that it was nothing and that they should get over it. The media would then be calling them crybabiesfor reacting to a ball thrown in their dugout. But because the Padres did it and the Dodgers reacted, the Padres are the villains.
