So dead on right about Smoltz. In game one he immediately pointed out that Yamamoto can't expect to use his cutter early in the count because if the hitters don't chase you're behind in the count and Smoltz questioned why he wasn't challenging hitters early in the count with the fastball. In game 5 he did exactly what Smoltz said and got better results.

It's so hard to win in the playoffs in baseball. ,Keep your head up you have a great team and a great GM. The core is going to be around for a long time.

In game 3 when the Dodgers shortstop tried to tag 2nd for the force out and throw to first for the double play and accomplished neither I thought LA was cooked and headed for a quick exit home. The Padres and Dodgers will continue to have some fun series in the future. I honestly thought the Padres have the best team built for the playoffs, even with the Musgrove injury. Sometimes things just don't go your way, trust me I know from the past 2-3 years, and it can still go south with the Mets series coming up. I think the perfect team would have a mix of the two teams, the Dodgers don't show enough emotion, and the Padres can sometimes show too much. Where I don't agree with you is your assessment that Cease has better stuff than any LA pitcher. When Glassnow is on he takes a backseat to noone. And Yamamoto has the pitches to rival cease. One thing I can say is when LA was considering trading for Cease,
I watched his past PS performances and the same results that SD got from him happened. I was so happy when we went for Glassnow instead. I will say LA needs to figure a way to keep him healthy for the PS even if it means not winning the west in order to be healthy. But LA will have Ohtani pitching, Kershaw, Goslin, and a few others and who knows what Friedman comes up with in the offseaßon. Just saying. And I will subscribe to your channel John. It's not unusual for Manny to look bad when he has two strikes on him. Throw him down and away every time and just about every time he will throw his bat at it. It's not even a swing, his butt goes to third and his arms stab at the ball going away. It isn't even close to being a strike but he will flail at it every time and then just walk off to the dugout. Padre hitters played the fifth game like they had an appointment somewhere and just got out of there as fast as they could with no visible plan of attack. After game 5 I think most Padre fans sat back and said "WHAT WAS THAT?"

Difference in game 5 and really this series, Machado barely missed two mistake pitches for HRs. The Dodgers hit two mistake pitches for HRs. Otherwise, the teams performed pretty much the same. That’s how evenly matched these two teams are this year.
Lastly, the decision to pitch Cease on short rest was a really bad one. Was that REALLY the best option?

Darvish pitched his nuts off, he deserved better. Padre hitters were never in the game, games. I love listening to John smoltz broadcast games. I learn a lot from him. To me John smoltz is the baseball what Dan fouts is the football. Both guys have a great amount of insight to their sports. They weren't successful by accident.

When Manny has two strikes on him it's so predictable. Throw him down and away and he will flail away at it every time, I don't understand it but he will flail EVERY TIME FOR STRIKE 3

One of the Padres' main strategy was to silence Ohtani and they succeeded with that. But Dodgers isn't a man-team. They have Teoscar and their bullpen. I do think Padres felt complacent after their second win and the Dodgers felt that and they took advantage of that. People tend to be careless after they feel a sense of relief. I think that's what happened to them.

I grew up in SD but have now lived in LA longer than I lived in SD, and I can honestly say that the vast majority of both fan bases are decent, kind people. Don’t let the small minority of loudmouths ruin an otherwise great, healthy rivalry.

Too much mouth and breast beating from Machado, Tatis and Prefab. Childish.
They should try and let their bats do the talking
    Their bats were silent.

Dodger fan here. Excellent analysis here. 3.314 million people through the gates at Petco is remarkable. I imagine this really hurts right now, but SD and the Padres have a ton to be proud of. You have one of the best ballparks in baseball filled with seemingly loyal fans, one hell of a good team to watch, a GM that seems to have figured this thing out, and an ownership that is willing to go for it so much as possible. It just didn’t happen this year, but the future still looks very bright for the Padres.
Multiple national analysts have said Dodgers vs Padres is the best rivalry in baseball *right now*. Who saw that coming 5 years ago? Dodgers fans with any sense agree. You can’t supplant the Giants as the Dodgers biggest rival long term, but so long as Preller can keep running out a good team and the Giants languish, it’ll be that way. This will be a lot of fun for years to come. You’ll have your chance to punch back. Much respect to SD for rallying around this team the way they have. Keep it up. It’s GREAT for baseball.

It's very embarrassing not to score for 24 innings against Any pitching staff 😂especially one as injured as the Padres . Tattis is a talented clown who has been caught cheating and is a walking injured list. Padres Big money guys especially Bogarts did Nothing and has been garbage with Padres . Peter Seidler tried but this team should be better than they are .

Padres got too many power hitters in the lineup. They need about 2 or 3 contact hitters in between the power hitters. (I love when smoltz calls the game)

Manny Machado looked during the playoffs exactly like he looked during the season at the plate. You get Manny with two strikes and you simply throw him down and away out of the strike zone and he will flail away at it. IT'S A GIVEN. His butt goes to third his feet stay planted and he reaches across the plate and gives it a half-hearted swing and a miss. That's the book on him and always has been. Why change if he doesn't?

John, you want a good😮 catcher? Our #1Smith is signed long-term. They should, they better resign Teo
so Dalton Rushing would need to be a bench player or backup catcher, which I doubt. Or he could try some backup 3rd base. I think he's trad bait for a good pitcher. Then Cartaya is rebounding from hid bad hitting habits he picked up and improved a lot defensivly.
And there's the left hitting backstop who's name I just can't remember who was called up when Barnes broke a toe. Hes good and ready. Just saying

padres was talking that smack, had no humbleness to there attitude, was too cocky, taken for granted we already got this in the bag. i tell you what happen when that guy on the outfielder took away that home run from someone on the dodger team, but that wasnt it he could of left it alone, he did the utmost disrespect thing you could possibly do was to do a level 5 super taunt of handing the ball back to that little boy who he stole the homerun from, the little boy threw the ball back and put the curse of the padre, the curse can never be broken till they accept humbleness
