  • I can't believe what I just watched... The Padres and Dodgers played an intense elimination game Game 5 of the NLDS to move on to the Championship Series, and San Diego choked harder than i've seen any baseball team in a LONG TIME. They didn't score for 24 innings straight!
    One of the greatest Postseason collapses in MLB history from Tatis, Machado, and the San Diego Padres.

      Believe it or not it wasn't a choke. This is something they do throughout the season. The kiss of death was scoring 10 runs. When the Padres score double digits in a game you can forget about the offense for the next four or five games. That's their history, it happens every time. I've been a season ticket holder with them for 41 years now and I know what I'm saying. My friends and I always root against them scoring more than nine runs because we know what we're in for and it came true just like it always does. Can't explain it, it's just the way it is.

    2 things that made this series win so sweet. One, Profar slow rolled the Dodgers when he took away the HR from Betts and took his time to let everybody know that he actually caught the ball. That was so disrespectful and unprofessional and that’s why the Dodgers threw at him later. Number two was when Machado purposely let the ball hit him running to second base. I know it was legal but it was bush league.

      @AC-iv3ys Час назад

      Wow, if you think Manny purposefully ran into the line of a ball he couldn’t see then that takes a special kind of skill. He’s over 6 foot and your guy just had an off throw. It’s not that deep. Absolute straw grasp, my guy. Stolen HRs are part of the game. Betts has stolen a HR himself before. They’re there to play ball, not coddle the feelings of emotionally stunted Dodgers fanboys. He was excited, it was a close call catch. Get over it. That doesn’t excuse throwing crap at players in the slightest. Y’all wouldn’t be Dodgers fanboys without the blind aggression and crackhead energy though. Dodgers still won NLDS but the fanboys need to grasp straws because the few wins the Padres did get gave your ego a boo boo. Don’t burst an aneurysm when Mets shake your homeboys up, please.

      I'm a 41-year season ticket holder with the Padres and you are absolutely right. I have been screaming for Profar to be taken out of the number three hole but the manager was just too stubborn to make any moves. Profar stopped hitting well before the playoffs started but the Padre manager stubbornly kept throwing him out there as if something was going to magically change. Then he gets caught up with the BS in left field. Not the first time I've seen an outfielder do that And I didn't think it was that terrible but he lost his focus because of it and that's HIS fault. I believe that was the most boring game 5 I have ever seen. The first Padre batter in every inning made the first out, leaving it quite difficult to get any kind of a rally going. Hopefully the young guys learned something but as for the others, it's just who they are. I disagree with what you said about the fans…. Yes as fans we should have boundaries and let the Dodgers take care of the opposing players…It goes both ways what you failed to mention is the professionalism that the Padres players failed to show. MLB players should not be interacting with fans in the manner like the padre outfielders did. Fuck around and find out they wanted the smoke they got it. You got profar running up to a dodgers fan giving a ball to a DODGERS fan what do you think is going to happen. What happens when an opposing team hits a home run and the home fans catch it…. You throw it back! Fact of the matter is these guys can certainly dish it out but can’t take it. So they play the victim and yeah we all saw what happen with security. Admittedly, it was a bit odd the high-octane Padres went thru an extended period without scoring a run. And they should have at least scratched the score board in games four and five. But choking is failing at something super easy like missing an uncontested layup or dropping the football in the end zone when you're wide open in a clutch situation. The Dodgers have an unbelievable bullpen when they're at the top of their game.

    Darvish pitched his nuts off tonight but unfortunately he had absolutely no offense behind him, none whatsoever. Routine pop-ups, routine ground balls and made the first out of every inning of the game before anything could even get started. I saw it coming though, when this team goes cold they go ice cold and it lasts for a while. The left fielder, The first baseman and the second baseman did nothing the entire series. You're talking about the first and third hitters in the lineup. Profar went cold well before the playoffs started but the Padre manager was too stubborn to move him out of the number three slot. So there he stood game after game doing absolutely nothing with the bat. Profar spend too much time playing with the fans and left field as to whether he catches the ball or not instead of concentrating on doing something at the plate. Padres first baseman wins a batting title yet spends the entire series hitting lazy fly balls to the outfield or three hoppers in the infield. Padre pitching did their job most of the series but the offense was just a disaster. EVERYTHING was in the Padres favor including the Dodgers losing their first baseman and shortstop in game 4, yet the Padre offense just continued to stumble around. Anyone could have gotten the Padre hitters out during this time so I get very little credit to the dodger bullpen. I watched the Padre offense do this all season long. What a waste of good pitching, I think any other team in the playoffs may have taken this team to the world series. Profar lost his composure and the offense lost their way. Manny also did no damage. This was a total team effort on offense with this collapse. If the Padres are smart they will keep this pitching staff together regardless of cost. They have the best bullpen in baseball and their starters can keep them in most games, but those bats, OH MY GOD !!! WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT AND WHAT AN INCREDIBLY BORING 5TH GAME IT WAS.

      @feefop9858. I agree with you to an extent. But the Padres had been an offensive juggernaut for the first three games...even though they didn't score the last six innings of the third game they scored six runs. Considering that game four was a bullpen game in which each hitter saw a different pitcher, I'll bet the Padres thought game four was an anomaly. So entering game five, I'll bet the Padres thought the train would be back on the tracks. Given this was only a five game series and their struggles happened relatively late, I'm not sure they'd make the adjustment. Had their offensive slump occurred earlier in the series, I'd imagine they'd do exactly what you suggested. And I'd add that the Padres should have at least tried your approach in the 8th and 9th innings of game five with the bottom of the lineup to at least force the Dodgers to pitch to the top of the lineup.
