Really impressive feat of technology, not gonna lie. That said, it is definitely missing something. It feels more like theme park ride than a car. Like riding on a giant RC car, which doesn't sound too bad either, but you get my drift.
How is it impressive? An electric motor will make as much power as you’re willing to input into it. There’s nothing even remotely impressive about this.
big battery and big electric motor - not sure how that is an impressive feat of technology. A scaled up golf cart is all this is.
@@MCoupeMike It's not exactly straight forward to get this much power out of that much weight, with that precise control.
Also how well is the handling? I doubt you can drift and have fun with this. Not much passion involved with driving this “computer”
@@MCoupeMike In order to get this kind of launch you actually have to wait for like 10 min for the batts to be supercooled, there's a small window of time before it will allow it, it keeps temp measures to pull back from overheating ect... It's pretty high tech actually. I do get what your saying though.
Edit - what you are witnessesing is it being pushed to it's limits in a controlled drag environment. It isn't this quick nor fast in every day driving. It is really quick without the added tech involved in the launch though..
Fun fact: Tesla named this the Tesla “plaid” because in the movie spaceballs a spoof of Star Wars, a ship went really fast and went so fact it went into the “plaid” on the screen that showed the mph you can see colors around it like in the movie. 10/10 movie btw
Its one thing seeing it on a video but can you imagine experiencing 0-160mph this quick. Thats incredible.

@@hinnick3060 the spooling up of the motors!
Brushless motors sound amazing under load 😄
There will be hardcore mods I can see them in my mind already... increasing power delivery at higher speeds, more efficient battery coolers, more batteries, etc. The 0-60 mph is ridiculous and theres probably little room for improvement but 100-160 can be a lot quicker if someone crazy enough decides to do it.
Those are commercial cars, meaning they have to be efficient, if efficiency is thrown out the window you can definitely build a crazy powerful design, I'm not sure the rubber tyres could handle such a monster though.

weight saving measures would be the first and easiest thing, according to a youtube video one guy saved .3 seconds on the quarter mile only by removing lots of interior (throwing seats and interior panels etc. out. If you would put the Plaid powertrain in a carbon fiber body like all top of the line supercars have, it would be in the mid 8 second range on the quarter mile for sure.
Remember, it’s not the crash that keels you, its the sudden stop

Agreed I don’t understand the fascination with these electric cars.
@@hectorflores7007 The sheer acceleration is nuts, especially for a production car that still seats up to 5.
@@MutaharFarooq I know it’s fast I can clearly see. I just don’t understand why buying a vehicle you have to take to a specialized mechanic or the manufacturer itself to get any repairs done is so sought after. Not to mention having to charge it for hours on end even on the rapid charger stations which being there for an extended time is an inconvenience all in itself.
@@hectorflores7007 well a mechanic is a concept for older technologies like gas. Sure it applies here but electric is many many times less likely to get broken.
Also, as long as you are not one of the few who travels all over a country or countries as a lifestyle, barely staying somewhere. Electric charging, you don't feel it.
You don't commute 500km in your city or town daily, so whatever you do most of the time will be less than that. You arrive home and plug your car, that's it, you will forget what gas stations were... Could you imagine Formula 1, Indy, or NASCAR silent as an Tesla? The high pitch of 1.6 liter V6 Turbo @12K rpm makes the hair on your back stand up. Or the rumble of a V8 that sends shock waves that nearly knock you off your feet. Yeah EVs are faster than a lighting rod, the next automobile evolution for the century. Soon we will have those weekend hot rods of EVs hanging out at the local spots doing 100mph++ passes with just a whisper. Superchargers will have a different meaning in the racing community, greasy hands will be a thing of the past except maybe of a tire change. Not much to worry about except a battery malfunction (please not a fire) or those rolling blackouts and a power outage for the next 3 days. ***Long live ICE***
the already have formula E racing which is basically EV f1
The 1.6l v6 f1 engine is no way near high pitch.. the old v8 or even v10 are the best. (I think the v12 engines doesn't rev as high as the v10 does
EVs are the future
Electric vehicles will stay for 20 years max and then its all hydrogen
The only reason electric cars haven't gotten fun yet is because consumers haven't gotten their hands on the building blocks yet. Trust me, there will be plenty of drama in EVs, we just aren't going fast enough yet
