Beat me to it! I had an early AWD, and it was great. Swapped to perf and it's legit nutty. The only thing is, You need a second set of winter tires because it comes with sport summers, haha.
I had a 15 minute test drive of a Tesla and was changed forever. I'm now the proud owner of a Model 3 Long Range that I immediately drove from Melbourne to Brisbane and back - over 4000 Km - and loved every second of it! I'm a proud Model 3 Performance owner from Germany myself. 450km are realistic if you drive slowly. (350km in a severe Winter) If you drive more sporty it will take you less far. But remember in Germany you can drive as fast as you want so if I want to drive 200km/h at the Autobahn I can do it. (And it's not very common that an electric car can do that) It's extremelly impressive nevertheless. I love the car and never want to go back to gasoline.

@@glenhardy4770 I'm in my 30s and very successful in my job right now so I wanted to reward myself. (with the best Model 3) That's why I have chosen the M3P. I was always interested in EVs, though and always wanted to own one myself. Back in 2014 I test drove many electric cars but 100-160km of range convinced me that it's too early for that. From 2014-2021 I drove a Toyota Prius to give you a picture. But last year I had the money and opportunity to finally order one so I did it. I actually would have ordered a Standard Model 3 or Long Range instead. I just had the money to get the Performance instead and wanted the extra special so I did it. But I can tell you that you will have fun with every version of the car. The Performance has much more punch if you floor it but I do it 4-5 times in a month to get the thrill and then drive normally again. The rest of the car is basically the same and the Long Range comes pretty close if you buy the acceleration boost later. (3.8s instead of 3.3s for 0-100km/h)

I love to hear this. So much love for Tesla’s in Australia. Now ScoMo’s gone perhaps Aussie’s will get some of the barriers to ownership dropped, especially in Victoria. Here in the UK they’re EVERYWHERE and I look forward to being able to rent a Tesla from Brisbane airport the next time I’m there.
What’s cracking me up is that was a LR. Put him in my 2022 Performance and then his mind is truly blown. I goose my car at least once or twice daily to feel alive. I’ve come up to stoplights with a few different “badass muscle cars” beside me and felt like I needed to go back and apologize. It’s so damn fun.
Yeah - the best part is that the general public including the muscle car owners try to race my brother all the time - they have no idea they aren't even in the ballpark to keep up with his 2024 Plaid. By the time they realize the ridiculousness of their challenge, he's already out of sight. Of course he can't rev his motor, so its always the muscle cars giving the challenge.
I have a 2015 Model S that’s covered almost 170,000 miles and it’s still on it’s original brakes. They look about half worn. Keep up the good work and keep getting those butts in seats!
Teslas have the opposite problems as ICE cars, they use the brakes too little and they might rust. That is why they added a percent of blending in brakes.
@@bind777 The batteries are great...read reports by fleet owners of Model 3’s regularly exceeding 500,000 miles on the original battery (and of course they’re warranted by Tesla for 8 years and 70% charge, right?).

I used to deliver for an oil company and everyone there was either anti-EV or at least very skeptical. Every person I took for a ride in my Model Y Performance absolutely loved it.
@@chevrofreak Congratulations on being a lucky one. Some of the Teslas I have seen recently (and my nephews personal experience) the cars have been an embarrassment.
My favorite part about my model 3 is instant torque, always on where I can open the window without having to put my car in accessory mode, watch movies, play games, always full of charge in the morning, pano roof, sound system, auto pilot, regenerative braking, I can go on and on. I used to be ver picky about buying a new car. There are many features that is not in the model 3 like turn signal on side mirror, blind spot warming, power trunk( mines 2018 so I don’t haven’t it), great looking grille, interior lighting, cool rims etc but once I’m in my model 3 all this doesn’t even matter. When a car makes you not care for things you once cared about it means the car is incredible.
I wish it were feasible to own an ev where I'm at. Its too expensive to own or rent a house where i could charge cheaply, so the 2 public charge stations cost as much as gasoline 🤷🏻♂️
This is how Tesla sells cars without spending a dime on advertising. When my neighbor got his Model 3 last year, he took eight of his neighbors for a test ride. Definitely gave them a bit of an education and change of opinion on Tesla EVs.
My dealer let me take one home overnight for a test drive. YMMV but I asked near the end of the day and they were like, "Sure, have fun!" I had to bring it back by opening time the next day but it was a blast!

TBH, I'm surprised at how easily your test drivers take the 'true' information about EVs in general and Teslas, specifically. You do a great job of getting the information across in a non-defensive way and you're very well informed and can provide specific data sources, which most of them likely cannot. I think about my father-in-law and other politically conservative people I know and I just can't see them buying the true information without pushing back. That said, 'the launch' gets 'em every time. Keep up the great skeptic conversion videos.

Not sure what political orientation has to do with it both party's have relentlessly attacked Tesla due to their oil funded programming, and heck the current administration didn't even invite Tesla to the EV summit... puppets the lot of them. I find that in general people from both parties have this weird media induced aversion to Tesla and electrification in general they go off on weird easily countered arguments like you see here.
Let's put it this way, I didn't buy my Tesla Model 3 Performance to save the planet - friends that I've taken for a drive and some whom I've let drive (they need to love driving) come away either laughing maniacally or with big smiles on their faces and all have realized this is the future. Some even order them the same day. Also, most of the time when I see FUD about Teslas I'm that annoying guy who counters the lies with facts. 🙂

Since 1990 I've own a Thunderbird SuperCoupe, Z28's, a 35th Anniversary SS and two Corvettes. Took a test drive in a Model S in 2015. Now I've had a 2016 Model S 90D, 2019 Model S Performance and now a 2023 Model S Plaid. I think if every car guy drove a Tesla for a week they would have one within a year :)
I like this guys authentic reaction. “So what you do is pair your phone and turn on the car” “You what.” Reminds me of when I first got a Model 3 and told my parents to drive it with no explanation.
Kevin, Drop by any local Tesla Service Center. They will allow you to do a 30 to 45 minute test drive by yourself... Or if you do not have a local Service Center, check with the local Tesla Club. I am sure that one of the members would take you for a ride..
Or check local rentals. Hertz here rents the Model 3 for $76 per day, unlimited miles, not hobbled, and no extra fees if you need to charge. I’ve been doing this for family road trips lately. It makes them even more fun (as the guy who usually does the driving) and you really get to know the car. It solidified my choice to buy an EV next.
When you smoke the tires, you are losing the grip on the road and the acceleration reduced. Teslas do not allow the tires to break loose from the road, keeping the acceleration to a maximum.
Yeah it's simple physics the car accelerate fastest when tyre is in traction the whole time. Last time I checked all 4 wheel are independently traction controlled 100 time a second so once it lose traction on a particular tyre it will dial-back the power on that wheel after 0.01 second till it finds traction again. And that's one of the reason how it accelerates so fast.
@@jpizel1070 You can do doughnuts in a two-wheel drive Tesla but it requires some specific conditions and settings. Here are a few tips: Slip Start: Enable Slip Start in the car’s settings. This can help maintain the momentum needed for doughnuts Driving on a slippery surface will help.
Last year right after picking up our new Model Y LR we were cruising down the interstate at around 70 miles an hour and got in a sticky situation with a couple of semi‘s, stepped on the accelerator and quickly got out of there, when my wife exclaimed holy shit you’re going 103. Nice, I've done that also. My power went out one night last winter but my 3LR kept the heat going like a champ and I watched a few old Clint Eastwood films. I hope Tesla adds the ability to power your house from the car in that kind of situation, like the Ford Lighting and the Korean models. Either way, I'll never go back to an ICE car.
I let most of my muscle car buddies drive my model 3 perf. My tip is... one pedal driving is like leaving it in 2nd or 3rd...its like engine braking without the noise. They usually do pretty good with it after that.

Thanks for sharing the benefits and value of EVs and in particular Tesla vehicles. You are very impactful in changing people's minds, often people who are skeptics.
Unfortunately, everything has become politicized which predisposes some to be skeptical without any information. I drive a long range and use it to drive Uber. I’ve converted a lot of skeptics. Recently we had several weeks of 90 degree temperatures. Because I ran the a/c all day my range was reduced by approximately 20% which is comparable to a gasoline powered car but at a much lower cost overall. I owned a 1967 Vette with 427/435hp engine for almost 30 years. The only speed range where it rivaled my model 3 was 50-120.mph. Handling goes to the model 3 and the ride is easier on your internal organs. I prefer a sports car that rides like a luxury car. My Vette had manual steering with a steering wheel the size of one found on a school bus. That’s probably better but parallel parking it wore me out physically. The Vette was prettier but I’m biased towards the look of 60’s cars.I forgot to mention that it averaged 8-10 mpg $$$$
True, the AWD makes it more difficult to do burnouts, but the main reason is the fact that the car applies a much power to each wheel as it can WITHOUT the wheel losing traction and beginning to slip on the pavement. This way, all of the power is used to propel the car forward rather than wasting some of it on rubber burning. This is a big reason why they accelerate so rapidly.
Plus you can put the car/traction into ‚slip mode‘ so that the torque is not controlled.. And then you should be able to burn tires - if that is what makes Iron Guy sleep better ;-)
True. With launch control, internal-combustion engines just can't apply the full torque to all wheels as well as electric motors. Traction control is better, and you can do more with less horsepower because there is no lag. But even without burnouts, you put amazing stresses on the tyre (tire?) And they are not cheap.
@@gabriellakmYes it is true lol , these electric motors can change the power they gave out 10000 times in a second , that is why you don't see electric cars slip at launch , obviously when you are going lower than 2 sec/100km/H you will have some kind of slip cause of phisics but electric drivetrain is just superior in many level
I didn't realize the response to the skeptic's was so simple -- "yeah it's probably the media. It's what they want you to think" and they're like oh yeah exactly lmao
nope, ice cars still drive way better on race tracks like Nurburgring. Also I guarantee you ICE cars are still able to toss you back into your seat. I have a 2.9 second 0-60 750 hp corvette
@@Gamesso1slOo0l I think you misunderstood, I was referring to the difference in technology. As far as track racing goes, which ever car is set up best for the track and conditions will perform the best on that day anyone who has raced cars knows this, it has nothing to do with which type of engine is powering it.
@@chrisharris1522 Exactly. 0-60 times don't mean squat on a racetrack. Maybe only on the straights. A race is won in the corners. The car that is set up properly for the *entire* track, with the same driver, will be the fastest.
@@chrisharris1522 The past isn't horrible though. My Model S is both boring and very scary. Mostly, it's a fancy golf cart really; but it does an awful lot to help out a driver. I have a long range, a friend of mine have a performance. Since i got the acceleration boost on my long range, there is not much difference now to be honest in the 0-60 torque. Ofcourse performance is better overall, but for a drag race the difference is minimal.
I just got a 2022 M3 Performance. There are no words for what this car can do. I keep it in chill mode 95% of the time, not to save battery, but to keep my neck free from whiplash. The car will smoke anything on the road short of a supercar and even then give a run for it’s money . Hands down the best car I’ve ever owned. Friends will ask me what do you think about it? I just describe it as “smooth”. The regenerative braking, the torque, the style, the interior. I’ll never own another combustion car again.
Love it…another great vid. Precisely what I commented on last time. Good ole boys with good ole toys learning how Tesla’s can fit in to their love for performance and speed. (Good ole boys is a compliment btw.)
Even that is probably unnoticeable in any higher performance car though. Throw an extra 800lbs in a Corvette, and you won't notice unless using timers.
From 2015 through 2022 I owned five Hellcats (modded one, sell one, buy new one etc), a Viper T/A, a Trackhawk, a 2019 Corvette C7 Grand Sport as well as an Alfa Romero Quadrifoglio for good measure… oh yeah, and a TRX lol . I love cars, what can I say? (no kids) That all changed when I borrowed a base model Tesla Model 3 for the day from a friend. Not as fast what I was used to but that instant torque was ADDICTIVE. After a day tooling around in the Model 3, first time I’d been in one… I went home, downloaded the Tesla App and ordered a Model 3 Performance. I was a life long muscle car nerd but when you can do 0-60 in 3-3.1 seconds over and over and over…. and my ‘gas’ (charging bill) at home was $20-$30 per month… I was Mopar or No Car no more. I’m not a fan of Elon, but he does make a darn great car. Looking now on how Stellantis has destroyed the charger / challenger heritage with that new e-version… lol. Looks like I got out at a good time. 😂
I understand that he's impressed with the torque. I haven't tested a Tesla yet, but I drove a "Nissan Leaf" once, and even that was impressive when it came to the acceleration from zero, compared to a normal petrol car. And I know the Tesla is more powerful. Can't wait to try one someday.
Great video and his lament about not being able to do a burnout is classic. I don't know about you but as intoxicating as jumping on it is, I'm glad that the tires aren't smoking. My pockets aren't that deep! Not to mention that guy will still be sitting on the line while I'm waving good bye in the rear view. The other comment I hear from those I've introduced to my 3, "but I really miss the sound of the exhaust!". Well guess what, other people don't want to hear or smell it while you're redlining and smoking the tires. On my road in the country, it seems that every third vehicle that passes has a modified exhaust. It really is relentless. If I want to see and hear it, I'll go to the track.
Yes, SirCookie, you could burn the tires, but when you do that, the acceleration is lower because your grip on the road is reduced. Smoking might impress the girls, but that and reduced tire life is all you are going to get when you do that.

Don't test drive a Tesla unless you're prepared to buy one. After I went in for a test drive, I just had to have one even if I could not justify the cost.
I love it when people say "It's weird/dumb because they are so quiet." Then I tell them my 3 Performance is actually quite loud... because of the screams from my passengers when i stomp down on the fun-pedal.
In 2010? I saw my first Tesla in Vancouver Bc Canada. I never seen one before and it was the very first production model. It was in down town Vancouver a city with lots of wealth. Then I moved into a house in a rich area. next door neighboor had a model 3 BTW, Elon Musk did NOT develop the original Telsa roadster or the company name. It was created by two car engineers that had a kit car with the electronics of the motor and LIPO batteries in it. They needed the money to make this car go national so they approached Elon Musk for Financing.
I like Iron Will! Super nice guy driving g electric for the first time. - A couple observations to share with Will: The 2022 Performance model of the Model 3 does 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds and has Track Mode. You can spin the tires in Track Mode, plus dial in front/rear power bias depending on what wheels you want to hook up and how much. Great for dialing it in for track or just fun. There was a maintenance Mode hack that allowed for burnouts in all Teslas but too many folks couldn't handle the torque and ended up in the ditch - see RUclips. My 2018 Long Range, non-performance AWD Model 3 does the job in 4.3 seconds but all LR models can drop .5 seconds off that 0-60 time by purchasing a Boost package, downloaded over-the-air from Tesla for $2,000. Another plus with Teslas = OTA updates. My car gets regular updates whi,e sitting at home. It gets better in many ways and/or gains features. Big bonus! For the third year running, American-made Teslas won hands down for the domestic cars with the most USA-sourced parts inside. That includes gas cars. Its also worth noting that most model 3s ( except the Base model ) can win a drag race with most Corvettes and 911 Porsches whilst being a comfortable 5-seat family, car with a nice front trunk, a spacious cargo area beneath the rear trunk floor and room for me to lie down in back and take a nap at 6'1" without my feet hitting the trunk. I recently hauled a big flat screen TV home from Best buy, no problem. Try doing that in a 'Vette! - These are good points to justify with the "better half" when discussing the purchase. Some very good sources (NTSB, IIHS and Recalls.gov) say .03% of electric cars have caught fire vs. 1.05% of gasoline cars since 2010. Those numbers include the big Chevy Bolt recall for defective LG batteries.. Just think of the industries disrupted by EVs: The Parts and Service industry alone is a multi- trillion dollar segment. Gas cars have hundreds of oil - lubricated , friction worn moving parts in engines and transmissions. Each Tesla motor has ONE moving part. Their reduction gearset is just a few parts and forget about brake jobs! Gas and oil lobbies pay lots for advertising....Tesla has a LOT of enemies.
I used to travel to the US a lot and I would rent Corvettes and other cars which are unobtanium here because of the 180% car tax. We had just 25% tax on EVs and when I tested the model 3 for an hour and drove back to Tesla, I got the same feeling as when I had to drive back to the rental with the corvette before flying home that I didn’t want it to end. So even though the model 3 was a tad expensive for me, it was possible so I went for it. Only down side is less money to travel to the US but I have a car I like to drive and the 40 minutes to work are never a chore. It is also to best stereo I have so I feel like I don’t spend enough time in my car now.
My uncle lived near the Sears Point racecourse near Sonoma, California and we’d go to occasional races. Hotrod owners can also rent track time to push their cars. One of the funnier videos I’ve seen on RUclips was an early plaid owner who was kicked off the drag strip for going too fast. He didn’t have the roll bars, helmet, fire suppression, etc. that the track required of dragster drivers!
I've driven hundreds of cars, even raced a few. I read about Tesla's for years but the first time I drove one it still blew my mind. So hard to keep it within the speed limit, it just wants to go fast. Unbelievable speed changes and acceleration. I found the one screen interface very annoying though, definitely prefer dedicated climate controls and instrument cluster.
If this guy thinks the LR is amazing, I can't imagine how he would react if it were a Performance 3. I originally test drove a LR and was sold, but wanted to take a Performance out, so the service manager let me drive his. Well, I can say I proudly own a 2020 Model 3 Performace with 50K miles on it and haven't looked back since. It simply is the best vehicle I've ever owned.
Yeah, I remember test driving tesla for the first time. I kept driving it for about a full hour and was instantly sold. Love my model y. Came from years of driving beamers.
I just bought a Tesla Model Y Performance and I'd describe the feel of regenerative braking like driving a manual transmission car where the clutch never disengages. If you don't push in the clutch you feel engine braking similar to a Tesla, except I'd say the Tesla motor is tighter so the feeling is more dramatic. LOVE my MRP. My two previous performance cars were BMW M3s and I'm blown away by my Tesla. 👍

This is mostly on all wheel drive Teslas. You can do donuts on the RWD models.
@@jpizel1070 You can do doughnuts in a two-wheel drive Tesla but it requires some specific conditions and settings. Here are a few tips:
Slip Start: Enable Slip Start in the car’s settings. This helps the wheels spin more freely, which is essential for performing doughnuts.

This skeptical driver is like the perfect person to convince people to give EVs a second look
I will never under any circumstances own a tesla. Absolute pieces of shit.
Not true😅 but ok
@@gabriellakmYes it is true lol , these electric motors can change the power they gave out 10000 times in a second , that is why you don't see electric cars slip at launch , obviously when you are going lower than 2 sec/100km/H you will have some kind of slip cause of phisics but electric drivetrain is just superior in many level
Probably saves on tire wear too.
You need to get a Model 3 Performance and you can put in track mode. Then you can do a 4 wheel burn out. Or front or back.. all adjustable.

@@Gamesso1slOo0l I think you misunderstood, I was referring to the difference in technology. @@chrisharris1522 Exactly. 0-60 times don't mean squat on a racetrack. Maybe only on the straights. A race is won in the corners. The car that is set up properly for the *entire* track, with the same driver, will be the fastest.

I just got a 2022 M3 Performance. There are no words for what this car can do. I keep it in chill mode 95% of the time, not to save battery, but to keep my neck free from whiplash. He's impressed with the acceleration. Consider this... that's with hauling an *easy* 750 to 800lbs. Those guys are not slim!
Even that is probably unnoticeable in any higher performance car though. Throw an extra 800lbs in a Corvette, and you won't notice unless using timers.

That all changed when I borrowed a base model Tesla Model 3 for the day from a friend.

Also I looked a buying a corvette here and with import and special taxes. It was more like $200k
“There’s a lot to be said about smokin’ some tires” 🔥
i absolutely love these from-the-trenches videos; keep pressing forward!!!!
Love the concept of your introduction to skeptic & hater videos. Would love to see peoples reactions to my Rivian
Great Content as ALWAYS! I'm waiting for you to buy the acceleration boost now lol
Really enjoyed this laid back real life conversation
My uncle lived near the Sears Point racecourse near Sonoma, California and we’d go to occasional races. Hotrod owners can also rent track time to push their cars. One of the funnier videos I’ve seen on RUclips was an early plaid owner who was kicked off the drag strip for going too fast. He didn’t have the roll bars, helmet, fire suppression, etc. that the track required of dragster drivers!
People smashing your rear end because you don’t use your breaks. Tesla should add a safety feature where the brake lights turn on at least.
The tail lights do come on when using the regen brakes- fyi
I have a 1/4 mile stretch of clear road every morning going to work. Giving it the beans every morning never fails to put my mind in the right place.
