Thank you for the review. I was watching a video from the Spacedock channel that was talking about the Intrepid in WC4, and he recommended starting with 3 and then playing 4. I was so happy to find a review of both in a concise and well done video. Wonderful review, and don't sweat the haters, I get annoyed by voices fairly easily (not in a dickish way, just in a way that makes me less inclined to finish vids); your voice doesn't bother me in the least. My only recommendation is to respond to your fans if you have time. You still have a small enough channel to provide intimate responses before you blow up. God bless man, keep up the good work! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to pilot a spacecraft or two. 8D

A lot of the slowdown from the first two is the fault of DosBox emulation. If you can play the Kilrathi Saga versions of 1 and 2, those run really smoothly. 2 and 4 are my personal favorites mainly for the stories.
these were one of the first games on my very first pc in those days, and the gameplay was great for that time, but the cut scenes were out of this world, because when you pack the scenes together, you got a full movie, and not with some unknow actors, but famous ones, so what could we want more in those days? Btw, i just found out that tom wilson was also in the game, and he played Biff Tannen in the back to the future movies.

The first time i got to play it was an experience I'll never forget. They also had total annihilation and privateer 2! I still never forget the "massive" 21" crt monitor they had also!
Bought these from gog to play while I'm waiting for the dogfight module of Star Citizen to come out. Having fun with them. If you haven't seen Star Citizen and Squadron 42 yet (Chris Roberts' upcoming successors to WC and Privateer) you should check them out!

You should probably not lump Wing Commander 3 and 4 together. Wing Commander 3 is brutally hard, but fun. Full shields save you from a missile. Wing Commander 4 is brutally hard, and MISSILES WILL RANDOMLY KILL YOU in one shot. It just makes you more likely to fail every damn mission. Content. Padding. Decoys rarely work, as they depend on being used within the correct range, which is not communicated to you in any way, while later games in this style give you accurate audio cues for incoming missiles, WC4 gives a pre-recorded alarm sound that conveys no information. There's no way intuitively know when to use decoys or evasive maneuvers.
And the interesting thing about it is, that when this game was made, that the majority of these actors were in a "has-been" phase of their career before their careers experienced Rennaisance. John Rhys Davies, Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell....They wen't from "You may remember him from...." to "Hey that's Gimli; Hey, that's Luke and the Joker; Hey that's the guy who killed Captain Kirk".
$4 million was very high, but not "a factor of 20" higher than what other games from large studios ran. By 94, commercial games weren't generally being made by a guy hunkered down in his basement, they were made by teams in offices, and a $200,000 game (a factor of 20 less than WC3's $4m) would have been a low budget game. I don't know where that line about Doom being some expensive production came from. I buy that it was $200k, but that was fairly low for the time, especially with other FMV productions in the mix. Myst took years to make, for example, there's no way it came in that low.
This reviewer sounds more like a robotic Voice over AI than anything I've heard since the Audio Books of Dune. Which I think were read by Frank Herbert himself. Good Review though!
Origin has a habit of giving away crap and make it look like they hand you something of value. Last time they gave away Dead Space, man what a fluke, I deleted it the same day. The only reason I even use Origin is because some games need it but apart from that i suggest you avoid it like the plague. Their game client sucks and they are ridiculously overpriced compared to other retailers.
I hated WC4, I wasn't interested in watching any interactive movie but play the damn space simulator which they ruined by simplifying things and worst of all, taking out the cockpit. It felt like developers thought that the space flight part was just some "necessary inconvience" disturbing their great space movie so they didn't pay that much attention to it.
