This was THE pinnacle of video games and I loved every single scene and moment. You really felt as though you were in it there with them. Amazing production. It's unfortunate that it probably cost the developers more to make than they got for this, but it was a work of art. I think some modern games could model themselves after this and perhaps utilize a lot more CGI to make it easier/cheaper to produce.

Star Citizen/Squadron 42 is being marketed as the Next Generation Wing Commander, it took 12 years and 600 million in development so far, so as much as I hate to say it, but to get a new Wing Commander style game takes a massive investment of time and money. I honestly believe it couldn't have been done properly for less at this point. And I am amazed with how many Actors are actually returning to work with Chris Roberts again. I never played Wing Commander myself, only Starlancer and Freelancer, and of course the X-Wing Franchise, but that wasn't by Chris Roberts. It was just a little bit before my time, as I really got into gaming around 1998. Starlancer is still probably one of my favourite games, though I haven't played it in 20 years lol.

It is still ahead of 99% of modern games today in that regard - almost all games still typically end in a typically boss battle, cutscene, then credits. This style of ending was truly revolutionary, and is still exceedingly rare by today's standards (only game that immediately comes to mind that ended in this fashion was Mass Effect 3 where you had no real boss battle, just a 40 minute dialogue session followed by cutscene / credits).

The cutscene in the end in the Tribunal itself giving flashbacks from everything they've been through is a marvelous moment. This is how stories should be written. Show the player a piece of what they've been through, connect them to the past and the future. Writers: Watch and learn.

Really brings back some memories... played this game when I was 22 (and that was 22 years ago), this was the first game I reviewed for my local nation-wide computer magazine. I still have the CDs, along with the WC3 CDs. The WC2 however, in 5.25" floppy disks, with all its expansion packs, were already gone. The same goes to the first WC disks. I also have the WC Privateer, Privateer 2, and WC Armada.
I hope someone will create a game like this again, "as if watching a movie but we are the one who gets in action to decide the outcome". No, it was not a "movie in the game", rather it was a "game in the movie".
Great work for providing the game movie, thanks

I was 17 when I first played it. I had played WC1, WC2 plus their expansions but skipped WC3 because my pc was too old to play it.. then I got WC4 and WC3 on the same day when WC4 released and played both in an insane 40+ hour gaming session over the weekend (the first time I ever did that.. yeesh did I get sick after that, never repeated that again). One of my fondest gaming memories was playing this game, it was so captivating.

I loved playing WC4 and WC3. I played on playstaion, these games were truly break through at the time. The first time I finished them I was genuinely sad that the story had come to a close. I went back and played them multiple times changing my choices just to see the other outcomes. Watching this brought back a wave of nostalgia, to a simpler time for me in my early 20's. In my humble opinion, some more modern games have come close to matching this, (I did like the Mass Effect Trilogy) but none have surpassed them.

This was a fantastic game all around. The "Boys from Brazil" plot was fantastic writing, and even the opening was spectacular. It was well acted and directed too. Malcom brings the right amount of dread and makes a great villain. It's too bad they left all this behind and the next installment was lackluster Prophecy. They should bring back FMV games like these.
