      Back then I played WC3 on my old 486DX 33 MHz. It only had an ISA VGA graphics card, so it stuttered a lot. It was OK in space, but the last missions on the planet stuttered at around 3 fps. So I had hardly any control in these last planetary missions, but I still played through the game until the credits rolled.

    This was one of my all time favorite game series. I remember that talking about this being the future of gaming, and even entertainment in general. A lot of well-known actors were here. Unfortunately, this type is very expensive to make.
    But it wasn't long before CGI caught up and live-action was too expensive to justify. Now we have CGI with voice-only actors. That works too, since CGI can create a wider range of "alien" forms while still having human-like voices.

    • @OpenGL4ever
      @OpenGL4ever 2 месяца назад

      Everything in WC3 was shot in front of a green screen, so apart from a few objects such as the ladder and the lockers, only the actors were filmed, the rest was created as CGI graphics. Studio sets were only used in WC4. The reason why computer graphics are used today is because they require less memory, they fit better into the game world in terms of atmosphere and because you have more control over what is shown and can depict worlds that you could hardly depict in real life.

    Star studded cast, and it has a story. But I hate that they chose to kill off and destroy the old characters like this. Thanks for posting the video and making the effort to try and improve the visual quality.

      The killing off has always been a thing. Spirit died off camera in one of the Secret Mission packs, etc. Although I don't think the casting for Maniac was a good fit in this one. There's very little resemblance both in looks and character.

    This is actually better than a lot of MOVIES. I am 60. I got a computer in 1996 and WC 4 was my first game. Then the Star Trek games. The video is great RIP Jason Bernard and John Schuck

    Flying the Excalibur in those last few missions were quite possibly my finest hour in a spaceship fighting game. Might say more about the controls of the other ships than the Excalibur, but still. :) it was a dream to fly. :)

    Thanks for working on WC3, as it was such an iconic game, from a time when Origin and Chris Roberts hit homeruns with ones like this. Can't say modern games are as intricate in dialogue and planning as this one. Appreciate you going after Flint, although it's obvious you kept her off the flight rotation before she whined. Never did it that way. I personally think choosing Rachel was a bit more fun.

    I think the Mass Effect series has a lot to owe to this franchise, even with that series being more about boots on the ground combat, the kernel of the theme of humans having to fight in the galaxy and interacting with you crew mates so much more of a story rather than just a simple coin op game where the objective is to kill the player fast enough they have to spend a bunch of quarters to get through the game fighting. When the 3D0 home video game system was no long the hot tech and PlayStation 1 took over the market, I purchased a used 3D0 for that I only saw a little bit about but was heavily intrigued by. I found a few other gems for that system also but while buying a high tech computer was beyond my ability with no job, justifying the used system is something I never regretted, I still own it!

    I wonder why neither of them were in the actual Wing Commander movie.
    This brought back allot of childhood memories.

      Malcolm McDowell was in Hawaii doing the 1998 Fantasy Island show so he couldn't make it, Mark Hamill was in the movie as a VO cameo.

    If you are still working on this, I believe Roberts shot all of the live action on video for this one at 30 FPS. 4 was on 35mm film and would likely be at 24 fps. Keep up the good work!!

    I think you are on to something here. With this new tech I bet you could take an old movie made from the 1920s and make it like it was shot yesterday at 60 FPS.
    Oh the possibilities.
