The wing commander series was a fantastic set of games, the live action sequences were great. I miss games like this, and the Zork series, and the Wizardry series, and the Ultima series
Aw man... that first appearance of Blair... 😄
Good old golden times of gaming.
It's just sad to see that games like this are no longer made nowadays. The graphics were top-notch for the time and there was a great story with real actors.
Today's gamers simply don't know what really good games are. Only graphics and story and game depth are just meh.
Wing Commander 6 would be lovely.
That was a true joy to watch again. Played it in the past several time. Mark Hamill..Maniac... Origin did a fantastic job on this game. All the actors did a amazing job there.
I think we Too bad this was the last game in the series. I wish they continued the story in WC6 instead of Star Citizen. That game where you had to pay real money for your ships.
@@drmayeda1930Or, you know, just pay 50 bucks for Squadron 42 which is the singleplayer game in the Star Citizen universe...no need to buy any ships...
Star Citizen IS basically WC6.
All you have to do is imagine the story.
At least that's what I believe anyway.
(My opinion of course.)
Woww, how many memories!
"I'm Maestro, you're dead" used to be my fav line hahaha
I've forgotten how much drinking there was in this game.
Amused. There’s even more drinking in the WC books.
I am still curious what "Boom Boom" is
@Eagleeye Jones Having a self serve open bar sounds great until "ALL PILOTS TO YOUR SHIPS THIS IS NOT A DRILL, ALL PILOTS TO YOUR SHIPS!!"
@@joec9693 I am going to take a wild guess and say Rum. I am only saying this because most RUM drinks I have had, always have weird names.

Great game, revisiting a game I played over 30 years ago, for me it was always a huge challenge and an emotion leaving started the battles 🙆🏻♂️
For those interested, "Nathrakh" is a word from the incantation to summon the dragon in 1981's "Excalibur". It's a great film where Nicol Williamson does his best to chew any scene he gets near. It was also the inspiration for the name of black metal / grindcore band "Anaal Nathrakh".
Oh, and as far as the ending goes I'm glad Telep turned up to write some stuff later. I was fuming for over a decade.
You mean, there is fan fiction for this WC chapter? Tell me more!
That’s a good knowledge of a very old film
@@nickmitsialis Look up the wing commander novels and Telep's name will turn up. It's canon lore IIRC.
@@KnjazNazrath I just did! He did the novelization for the WC Movie with Freddy Prinz Jr.
"Interesante".
Played through this game so many times that I was able to hear a rare Blair taunt during the Comm Relay Station mission a few times: "Cats, Bugs, whatever...you all die the same"
I swear I heard that too, once
"I rest too long one of you might actually catch up to me on the kill board."
The first time I played this, I immediately looked at the kill board.
I had three times as many as Maniac :-D
As is tradition.
for the current campaign yes but it would take a dam lot more to catch up to his actual count and even more to catch up to Blair
@@maxrander0101 Perhaps he should have said that, then.
@@maxrander0101The only ones who can catch up to Blair are Ace Combat protagonists xD
Played that game, and loved it. But the next two never came. :(
I found the franchise with Wing Commander 4, but was never able to get my hands on 5. Kinda glad lol dang. BUT I'm about to watch all of this so I know the story lol
The "Star Trek: Nemesis" of the Wing Commander franchise.
Not The Last Jedi?
@@JayCee-ji4cb Blair didn't go back to Nephele to be a recluse. :)
Woot, i still own this game on CD, i seriously enjoyed it in the past
I have 3 and 5 here. Ended up getting all Wing Commander games on GOG last year.
Steven Petrarca, the actor playing Casey, is an event planner in LA and has been since 2004. So tough to make a living as an actor.
damn shame
who knew biff tannon would end up in space was expecting a 'hey mcfly'
Damn this was "MY" Wing Commander Back in the day! 🤘
Omg. The nostalgia, and my surprised face as a kid when I realized maverick was Luke Skywalker 🤣
Just what you want in a military force: Throwing back shots when they could be called to the flight deck at any moment 😂
“it’s you”
-Maestro
This is the 2nd Wing Commander Movie where nobody gets any..."What about my needs?"
A travesty.
Love these game movies... I had the games but never got very far in them.
You know, I never really understood how Maniac was able to act like that for so long and not get either busted for outright harassment or routinely beaten by his peers. It just seems like someone would have straightened him out pretty quickly.
In Wing Commander 1-3 humanity was fighting for survival against the Kilrathi. They needed any and all skilled pilots / soldiers to win the war, the alternative was being wiped out. That gave a lot of leeway for assholes to stay in the military when they should have been drummed out under normal circumstances. A war for the species survival changes things. By the time humanity won the war he had become a war hero and tossing him out would have looked bad for the military I suspect.
Surviving the legendary final run on the Kilrathi homeworld made his ego even worse.
@Jeff Robinson In Wing Commander III he was cocky, but ultimately loveable. In IV he was one of the heroes, and showed loyalty to his friends and tremendous moral courage when he defected to the Border Worlds. This game threw out all that character development and just made him a jerk. Hawk relentlessly f*cking with him is one of the bright spots, though.

He's practically Biff in Space... lol.
yooooooooooo i loved this game when i was a kid. on my 486DX with 8 megs of RAM!
Had Maniac volunteered instead of Maverick, the Jedi Order could have been reestablished on Earth and Casey would have a bigger role in the sequel trilogy
I like this new definition for a "fire and forget weapon".
I really miss games like this. Man i would almost spend my last penny to get a wing commander mmo^^
Umm... Ever looked into Star Citizen and Squadron 42? You are not the only one and some ppl have ALOT of last pennies. Even I have spent over 400 to that game and I have never spent money on gaming before.
@@vallorahn
I would prefer another solo game continuing this storyline with the bugs. Star Citizen is too expensive.
@@vallorahn Star Citizen is vaporware and Squadron 42 should have been out years ago. There's really no excuse for the money the games gotten for 11 years of development and a barely functioning pre alpha with less going for it than No Man's Sky at launch to show for it.
Well you are in luck! Chris Roberts is working on a game exactly like wing commander MMO. Its called Star Citizen and its release date will be around 2230.
@@mintint4965 I think you had a type o in there, it should be 2320........ Right!?!?

Um dos melhores jogos que ja joguei, simplesmente sensacional. Até hoje conservo o meu antigo computador com placa voodoo e win95 que usava para jogar. Uma lastima que não teve uma continuação!
Just finished the 4th movie love love love the series about to watch number 5 keep up the good work more please
@Hathur: Great Work. I ever liked this game. This was my first Sci-Fi game, end of the 90ties with a Pentium I CPU and 3DFx Accellerator. This have been times. But the best sequences are the beginning and the ending, my opinion. Expecially the endsequence when the enemy dreadnought is coming out of the wormhole and get stopped to the closing wormhole and the computer voice in the background.
Loved this game. But...pilots who try to defend the universe, but drinking every moment in their free time, makes me a bit worried. Well I would do, but I am not a pilot. Or a hero.
Maniac mouthing 'I love you' to Blaire kills me ^^
What part?
i realy loved that cheesey acting
I love the music at 32:00. Reimagined of the victory debrief from WC1. I played so much of that game as a kid.
The briefing / debriefing music from WC1 is burned into my soul. Still gives me goosebumps to this day
@@Hathur it's simply amazing. You feel like a true hero and badass all at once
it was an incredible series
I remember playing and loving this game, well at least until I played Freespace and Privateer. OMG those live action sequences were as cheesy as they come. So 90s. It's crazy how B actors took up the mantle in video games, then got beat over the head only to become some of the best voice-over actors in modern video games and with such a success rate that now their voices and likeness is used in triple A titles.
omg, these old cutscenes are like amazon prime series quality only with less of a budget.
I wouldn't call Mark Hamill a B actor 🤣
@@martinroner5688 he was before his career took off
@@moguldamongrel3054 it took off with star wars, the game came later... Sooo
Mark Hamill's career didn't take off after Star Wars. The role of Luke Skywalker was so Iconic that his career on screen struggled. Most of the movies that he was in, no one ever heard of. He did some TV stuff as well but the greatest body of his work was in voice acting, videos games and animation.
Woah, i knew enoch was familiar on Agents of Shield. He's Dallas ! Joel Stoffer.
It's too bad prophecy never got the trilogy it deserved. Secret ops could not have been what Origin originally had in mind. I was hoping for a triumphant return of mark hamill in either episode 2 or 3. This is Prince of Persia 2007 are my most wanted sequels that I know will never happen.
this is still better than a syfy movie about sharks or radioactive snakes. wing commander 4 was like battlestar galactica aka epic
I loved wc4. Oh those memories... I have it on Origin. Hmm. Should I play it one more time...
I’ve played WCIII, WCIV, Privateer and Privateer II. Haven’t played WCV. From the looks of it, it’s a step back compared to WCIV.
I hear you, Jacob Taylor...
My favorit episode of the WC series. Prophecy. Too bad they didn't continued the series. :(

You got Electronic Farts to thank for that...They acquired and shelved all sorts of properties back in the 90s including Westwood (Command and Conquer series) and Origin (Wing Commander/Ultima)

I’ll agree with 3 but to me not nearly as good as 4.
yeah 4 had the best story and the closing to that story arc which started with WC1, everyone was doing great in 4
they need to come out with new wing commander games.
Starcitizen is in developement.
It's not based on Wingcommander but like WC 1 to 4 it's also by Chris Roberts and many actors like Mark Hamil are there too. Ps: WC 5 Chris Roberts was no longer there.
@@JacktRipperT Star Citizen ie the money pit game. Screw that game. It's just a scam now from Roberts to steal your money. God forbid it ever actually gets a full release instead of people just giving him money nonstop for him to work on still.

At 2:02:35 You can see Maestro almost break character, and hear someone laugh in the background from Maniac miming "I love you.
1:25:35; nice speech. I never knew about Hawk's background;
I played all Wing Commanders but version 5 defeated my patience. The missions were insanely difficult.
The trick to the prophecy missions was literally learning to unlearn what you learned in the previous games dogfighting. The game relied on more tighter combat, and using the unique abilities of some of the fighters to pull off some insane combat menuvers. Especially when you got a hold of the games main fighter and dueling against the Ace fighters of the Bugs.
Thanks for posting.
This and babylon 5 Thirdspace came out within a year of each other (Wing commander in 1997, thirdspace in 1998)..
The stories are not too dissimilar and the ending is a lot less dissimilar .
No porn stars in B5 however. Unsure if that's a good thing.
9:32 Adam-Lazarre White, also the voice actor from another Scifi, Mass Effect Trilogy, where he voiced Jacob Taylor.
I played and loved the entire WC series. I paid 5k for a high end 386 to play the original. Prophecy was the magnum opus though. “Does your face hurt bug? ‘Cause it’s killin me”. They don’t make em like this anymore. Awesome!

Prolly :) but Iceman was the nickname of one of the pilots you flew with on the tiger's claw (wing commander 1 - 1990's)
@@ramywatts correct and even then it was a TopGun reference.
Well actually in the first game the character was player named and Maverick until the sequels which didn't feature Iceman. Sorry to burst your bubble but Iceman has been used before and since the movie...a lot actually.

there is a community remake on the way

Welp, the bugs might come back, but Wing Commander sure didn't.
Yep, the game flopped hard. The sad part is this game had by far the best gameplay of all the wing commander games (ships felt very good to fly, all the different weapons were satisfying to use with good strengths / weaknesses) - sadly the story wasn't particularly good... it also came out when all space sim type games were already dying or dead anyway - took nearly 10 years before space sim games started to make a gradual return (though never like it was back in the 90s)
Yeah The first two Dead Space games were something.
The "Mass Effect" Trilogy is some of the greatest storytelling we'll see. When they got it right, they nailed it.
@@edalder2000 hey dont forget Tachyon and Freelancer
star citizen :)
@TheGreaterGood80 Which is funny because Freespace's story is basically "What if the Nephilim invaded during the events of Wing Commander 3." Except it was much better executed. For all the opening cutscene hyping up the Nephilim as this unstoppable force that even the Kilrathi feared, the bugs ended up being a more one dimensional version of the Kilrathi whose invasion force never set foot in Confed space and got utterly destroyed by a single carrier.
When it was just one carrier vs. Confed in WC4 you got the sense of tension and being the underdog, here it feels forced and it diluted most of the story's tension. The Nephilim should've curb-stomped what was left of the Kilrathi's space fleets and invaded Confederation space in force with the Midway being sent on what was basically a suicide mission to destroy the wormhole gate as the bulk of Confed forces held back the main Nephilim fleet.
If I were to go over the final draft of the script just before production was set to begin I would have the Nephilim's language be completely indecipherable, you don't hear their impotent taunts as you blast them away, you hear these creepy sounds and you don't see their faces, ever. You don't know they're bugs, they don't sound like edgelord Kilrathi and you see them as these Lovecraftian monstrosities where it is unclear if the aliens are using organic-looking starships or if they are the ships. And the missions largely involve avoiding the Nephilim ships rather than engaging them as you make your way to Kilrah to end the invasion at the source. Also I'd have the Midway have escort ships that get destroyed one by one as you get closer to Kilrah to emphasize how dire the situation is.
I loved this game.
great for subtitles !!
It was NOT a bad game!
It had the best gameplay of all the wing commanders. Sadly the story wasn't near as good as wc3 or wc4.. but it wasn't awful either. Was a lot of fun to play though.
I agree. WC4 was basically a movie and you were in it.
Agreed. By all standards a great game, just not as good as the first 4
I don't know what the budget was for Wing Commander Prophecy, but I get the distinct feel that it was significantly lower than Price Of Freedom, which for one thing, had better graphics. I haven't played this game in a long time, but I didn't remember the graphics of this game being so underwhelming compared to previous installments; I mean, they have really taken a hit.
What? Do you mean the Full Motion Video parts or the actual gameplay? The gameplay graphics were much superior to WC IV.
The Price of Freedom was a better game in terms of story telling but gameplay graphics was far superior on Prophecy. Motion picture wise. There is some credibility as the sets in Prophecy were much smaller compared to the grander sets such as the senate scene from price of freedom.
Is that the “Biff” from BTTF??
it is
I have this game on my collection!!!

Okay so my one gripe is that in WC4, Hawk stands right next to Melek and doesn't try to shiv him
If there is to be a remake I think it would be cool to follow different paths for certain craft. Fighter, bomber, interceptor and strike fighter. The game would send you on missions according to your specialty. Instead of being a jack-of-all-trades.
that would be super cool!
If there was a remake, I want multiplayer!
Wow I like the goatee on Blair
Wait, is Dallas a Chronicom? Is that Enoch?!
The settings look like a soap opera set in space.
Well... it is :D
Damn.... I absolutely don't remember this. I wonder if I skipped it by accident.
I didn't know that there were so much game movies. I bought some budget version (not pirated) without movies. Love this game. I played it lot till I found Freespace and Freespace II
Blair didn't rain down cleansing fire. he literally shook the cats to death.
Man what a fuckin awesome dialogue. So badass. Great acting.

They missed a chance to squeeze in a A113 Easter egg.
I would be great if they rebooted this game with better graphics.
I do believe there is a market for a remake (remaster?) of this game to current graphics/OS etc.
This was by far the worst of the series (story wise I mean, WC3 and 4 were far superior). Gameplay wise it had the best ship combat and missions I felt. However, there is no way it would ever get remastered as it is not looked upon fondly like other old games and it sold atrociously when it came out (Chris Roberts had nothing to do with this one so it flopped badly). Don't really need it anyway since Squadron 42 will theoretically be out in a year or so (supposedly), which is being made by Roberts and is considered the spiritual successor to the wing commander games.
Yes, I am waiting for more info on 42.
I do like 3 and 5, 4 didn’t really do it for me. And when I say remake I mean remake, keep the flying model and controls sort of similar (no need to overly complicate things) and just have a fun shooter thing?
I think EA owns it, so it's never going to happen, they buy studios and kill them forever.
@@HathurI know we all have to take our shortcuts every once in a while, but Chris Roberts gets way too much credit.

"Options" screen adjusting is not working. I've forgotten how to remedy this situation. Can anyone help me with smoothing out the gameplay and movie video for this game?
Try asking in the Gog forums for the game, people there might have encountered this problem.
Did anyone else get stuck on the space station mission?
WTF "Skywalker" was working with Chris Roberts long time ago!? Oh god, this is a surprise.
He worked with Roberts on 3 games. Wing Commander 3, 4 and this... and now Star Citizen / Squadron 42.. if that ever comes out.
We'll see if it does come out in the upcoming Citizen Con, rumor says SQ42 is nearly finished, if it is true, SQ 42 should just be another Wing Commander game, think.@@Hathur
