I love musical theatre and Victorian goth interior design, and this is my inspiration for my flat. A lot of colourful masks and feathers and crush velvet curtains etc
You’re not wrong, the set design is great! It’s colorful and lively and makes use of the space the cast has. In fact the best part about this performance as a whole is that every cast member you can tell is just acting their hearts out. A lot of love by the cast and music directors was put into this project and it clearly shows. However, the story at points makes no sense, the drastic changes in character and overall the nonsense of the overall story. The story isn’t awful, but it has issues. For example, the very idea of Christine choosing the Phantom over Raoul made no sense. Raoul is her husband and she chose him over the Phantom originally. In fact the original story ended off without any questions that needed answering so the fact that this story exists made no sense to begin with. Honestly it felt to me like more of a fan fiction rather than a legitimate sequel. But that doesn’t mean I dislike it, in fact, I love it. When I go to see a musical, I go to see the spectacle and wonder of the music and creative characters. And this musical does show that… however, only at certain points.
To anyone who may rip on the London show, just remember, most of you haven't even seen the full show, I saw it and it's amazing, it's hard to compare this show with the London version, they are so different they are almost two complete different shows, but always, this is ALWs best writing, and in my opinion, it surpasses the original show, the soundtrack for this show is breath taking and while I do love the original, that show cannot compare to the amazing songs in this show
They aren't completely different shows...the London version has far more plot holes than the Australian version. The story of Love Never Dies, in the first place, has a lot of continuity errors for a sequel, and a lot of plot holes that make the story feel incomplete
I saw the show a couple of nights ago... I thought it was truly amazing. So much coney island influence throughout the who show! I love the strange and wonderful. I recommend anyone should go see this. It's very lloyd webber too!
Just came back from seeing the show tonight, and the production was AMAZING! The moment that happens at 4:19 (which you really can't see properly in this video) was the first moment everyone's eyes popped out and we all gasped "Wow!"
Saw the show in Sydney today - it was amazing!!! breathtakingly beautiful in real life - loved when they revealed that carousel - and the lit up background. gorgeous costumes too!
@BunnyAllyJackie This is the changed version of the production, and the one he wants to take overseas, ALW wasn't happy with the London version, and created an improved production for Australia, which brought him to tears at how happy he was with it....... (I personally love the guy on stilts.....but I'm biased as he's my beatiful cuz) lol.....
It's actually split into three revolving circles...I know that cause I've walked on it ;) all three revolving parts also have speakers underneath them...
Pro-Tip for those worried that the show looks too "busy" or "cluttered" : The entire show isn't like -this-. It is just the magnificent opening act. The rest is more spread out and flows together beautifully. The whole set even seems to disappear into nothing at some points. One of my favorite sets was the Bar scene during Devil Take the Hindmost.
Just forget all about "The Phantom of the Opera" and you'l enjoy this play ALOT more. ALW ment for i to be a "Stand Alone Piece" it's own unique work, that just happen to have 5 of the same characters in it
Love this version much better than the London one. Webber's going to have to do some major reworking of the story and lyrics if he wants a success on Broadway. This version has so much potential.
Thankyou so much for putting this up. I saw it 2 days ago and loved it! I have to see it again. What a shame the white box in the corner of the video blocks out the ballerina en pointe on the gym ball at 3.25.
This looks great! I hope they take this production to Broadway, but still I think London's production was awsome, one of the best I've seen. I hope they record it on DVD before closing it.
Hey guys, guess what I just noticed? The Musical is set in 1907, and the prologue of the original Phantom is set in 1905, and Raoul is an old man there already and Christine is probably dead... That's a bit weird o.Ô But I still love Love Never Dies! Saw it in London, but this looks A LOT better - I think this musical is totally underrated. But I'm sure it'll have its time :)
@sickchok True, but it must be better than the original London production and for those of us who live nearly 10,000 miles away, it's nice to see productions from other countries.
The coney island waltz is more based on the shows of the phantom you can see people with al weird and rare talents. Then the tent lifts up and show the attractions on coney island with a background where you can see a ferris wheel
You can't say which ones better as if its a fact because its an opinion. They are more like two completely different shows that happen to share music and storyline.....
I have seen the London show 7 times. I've loved it from the first. This is very different. That's not a criticism, just an observation. The music is the best ALW has ever written.Seeing this version in person,my view may change, but I prefer the London show. I like its less cluttered more character oriented approach. From this piece, it appears as tho it is now more techno & less 'human'. I hope I am wrong. I really love LND. FWIW, I've seen POTO 20+ X on stage- it's possible to love them both.
Did you, by any chance. film the complete show? This is awesome, anyway. So much more than the London production, even though when it comes to costumes (espcially the Phantom's mask) I tend to prefer the London ones
Continuing from a few previous comments by @lizlk; due to a lack of a Melbourne Cast Recording is it illegal to download audio from these media call videos?
IDK, I think I like the design of the London Version better, but that's just me. I haven't seen either version of the show because I'm in America, and to be honest, I like the design of the London version better, and I like its staging of "Till I Hear You Sing" better than Australia. I think the Austrailia production just looks different, and that might hurt the Broadway Version if that's the version that will be the future "LND Standard"
but, is this the overture? don't like it . . i think that in London the overture is amazing . . really . . the london overture is like to be in a cinema. . this has nothing to do with that . . .
I very strongly dislike what they've done with it. I see absolutely NO connection to Phantom at all and I am genuinely scared. If this is the version that comes to America, I am NOT paying to see it. I'm sorry if I am offending anyone with this comment, truly, this is all just my opinion. I think they met what they were going for beautifully, I just don't think it's right for LND...
I love how Ben just sits there completely lifelessly, reminding you that the phantom is always watching
Sorry - to all the negative people - but this is the best set design ever !

yes I've never seen a musical set so over the top 😂

ALW's best writing will always be Phantom of the Opera, not Love Never Dies 😂 he based Love Never Dies on a completely nonsensical novel
I saw the show a couple of nights ago... I thought it was truly amazing. So much coney island influence throughout the who show! I love the strange and wonderful. I recommend anyone should go see this. It's very lloyd webber too!
seen the london show and have to admit this is way more impressive theatre. the staging is incredible
Great opening and I love how the phantom is lifted up like the chandelier was from poto and it gave a sort of dark creepy feeling too
Just came back from seeing the show tonight, and the production was AMAZING! The moment that happens at 4:19 (which you really can't see properly in this video) was the first moment everyone's eyes popped out and we all gasped "Wow!"
the set for the Aussie Production was way way way better than London
LOVED it- my heart went Ka-thump! the moment the Phantom stood up in that balloon basket hovering above them! lol
Saw the show in Sydney today - it was amazing!!! breathtakingly beautiful in real life - loved when they revealed that carousel - and the lit up background. gorgeous costumes too!
Ed86Wood so lucky!!

All I can think of when I listen to this is The Phantom eating a Coney Dog.
It's actually split into three revolving circles...I know that cause I've walked on it ;) all three revolving parts also have speakers underneath them...

How can this show make money with such a beautiful set like this but run for so short period of time?
Just forget all about "The Phantom of the Opera" and you'l enjoy this play ALOT more. ALW ment for i to be a "Stand Alone Piece" it's own unique work, that just happen to have 5 of the same characters in it
im going to see that in oct.... traveling from scotland just for the show...... london was great (seen it 7 times)
Sarah brightman love u x
Absolutely fabulous. I have never had the opportunity to see the London production. I am waiting for it to come to either Toronto or New York.
Love this version much better than the London one. Webber's going to have to do some major reworking of the story and lyrics if he wants a success on Broadway. This version has so much potential.
I'm ready for it to come to the states! one a side note I'd like to say that I love the way ALW puts in little snippets from the original Phantom.
Thankyou so much for putting this up. I saw it 2 days ago and loved it! I have to see it again. What a shame the white box in the corner of the video blocks out the ballerina en pointe on the gym ball at 3.25.

Love, Love, Love!
@irvyne Sponataneous applause? Night I went the whole audience were in a massive applaiuse!
Hey guys, guess what I just noticed?

👏👏👏👏👏bravo!!! I realy hope it comes to South Africa (not going to know already) 😞😪 but still I keep it in mind👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
Same
Coney Island is one of those perfunctory "opening numbers" sadly but there are elements of it which are worthwhile......including the singing
The song is there basically to show you where it takes place before the actual story starts. And to give you the wow moment when the carrousel appears
@bbanana01 it was actually an australian team that 'created' this version, andrew loyd webber assisted with some storey rewrites..
@ellielou22 Yeah it is. After Til i hear you sing, he rises jup in that, and then it becomes the top of the merry go round in this number.
@theatrepeopletube wow awesome! thanks so much!
I pray we get a Tim Burton adaption one day.
i met gangle fleck sguelch at stage door in sydney my name is daniel thompson look in the program because i am in it
@Ryoko48
This was from a media call before opening night - that's why there are only 3 good quality videos available to watch.
@sickchok True, but it must be better than the original London production and for those of us who live nearly 10,000 miles away, it's nice to see productions from other countries.
@hannahdenison I can see where you're coming from and props to you for defending the show (
The coney island waltz is more based on the shows of the phantom you can see people with al weird and rare talents. Then the tent lifts up and show the attractions on coney island with a background where you can see a ferris wheel

FINALLY!!!!!
@theatrepeopletube Oh, I'm sure it is! I'm eager to see the other two. :)
I have seen the London show 7 times. I've loved it from the first. This is very different. That's not a criticism, just an observation. omg I absolutely love it! :D Have you got any more videos from the performance??
Woah O.o
@theatrepeopletube Omg yay!! :D Please hurry with them ^_^
@RosesNightengales
Fleck is the small person in the opening trio
would have been a wonderful stand alone musical had i not been a silly Phantom sequel
Whyyy do we have to wait for this to come to Broadway?!
And I'm confused. Is Fleck now a Little Person?
Yes because its more based on freaks and fleck in the london production wasn't really a freak just a acrobat.
Did you, by any chance. film the complete show? This is awesome, anyway. So much more than the London production, even though when it comes to costumes (espcially the Phantom's mask) I tend to prefer the London ones
MOOOOOOOREEEE D:
Sorry but it's not coming to New York or Toronto any time soon thus the reason they're filming this for DVD release :|
When can we expect these videos to be up by?
this waltz cannot top the Carousel Waltz
Continuing from a few previous comments by @lizlk; due to a lack of a Melbourne Cast Recording is it illegal to download audio from these media call videos?
sorry for being ignorant of theatre but are the speakers there so that the actors can hear the feedback of themselves
is that the phantom aka mr y in the balloon basket?
@jimmycurry01
This video is nothing compared to actually being in the theatre itself.
IDK, I think I like the design of the London Version better, but that's just me. amazing i hope it comes to new zealand
@MissPetiteCrapule yes and up above all I prefer the old one!!!!
@Zarenamena They will
Is the little person playing Fleck?
I thought recordings weren't allowed during the show,,,?
@theatrepeopletube What are they of? :D
@theatrepeopletube omg yay! :D
@wrfrhiannon The show in Australia, is very character driven, however, this clip wouldn't show that as this is an Ensemble piece.
The staging looks sloppy for this sequence. I had hoped for something better.
It has fall-back speakers...they can only hear the music being played by the orchestra, no singing...
Awe. why isn't Fleck in this one?
gangle you are so funny sqelch you are hilaries fleck your sweet
Got to say I prefer it to mama mia
@Doctor1137 Then Raoul got really old in thre years!! Still weird in my opinion :D
@falkon26 You just jelly
but, is this the overture? don't like it . . i think that in London the overture is amazing . . really . . the london overture is like to be in a cinema. . this has nothing to do with that . . .
How in any way shape or form is that on a stage? How? It doesn't make sense... I don't like this musical no more... :P
Louis André it's Coney Island, it's supposed to be the strangest thing you've ever seen, 100 years ago it was considered an eighth wonder of the world
I very strongly dislike what they've done with it. I see absolutely NO connection to Phantom at all and I am genuinely scared. If this is the version that comes to America, I am NOT paying to see it.
I'm sorry if I am offending anyone with this comment, truly, this is all just my opinion. I think they met what they were going for beautifully, I just don't think it's right for LND...
truly dreadful,the london show is far better and less noisy.
