I kept that totally to myself, but then I got two letters from fans mentioning certain mannerisms of my Phantom, saying they really connected with him and that they had Asperger's. That was a big validation. I felt: Wow, this is affecting people like it affected me." That mentioned, and I've been watching PoTO related videos these past days since the 25th anniversary. He is the best one because Ramin put tons of details on his Phantom than the other Phantoms. They had different charm, but Ramin's was the most relatable Phantom I've seen so far. I hope I can watch him and Sierra in PoTO someday even though it's quite impossible since I live in Indonesia :(
Ramin has such gorgeous hands. The way he uses them is just out of this world and so expressive that combined with his out of this world voice just does things to me i can't explain 😍💖
I love that at 9:20 he relaxes and becomes so comfortable with her that he stops covering his face and she doesn't turn away. They then sing close up. It feels like a true loving moment where they are both finally at peace with each other.
Yes, and for the first time since before "that night". But would someone please explain to the makeup folks that no one can walk around with part of their brain exposed. At least that's what it looks like. I understand the need for shock value to reach those of us who were sitting just under the ceiling, but really!
@@emilystaudte5314 I know it was meant to make everyone in the theatre -- including those of us seated up by the ceiling, which included me! -- jump out of our skins, and it did. But it's always seemed like rather bizarre variation on the general theme of disfiguration!
Okay I know I know everyone's talking about the Phantom, but can we appreciate the kid here for a sec? He has to share the stage with RAMIN KARIMLOO, and he somehow holds his own. And look at those creepy, piercing stares he gives. You totally buy that this is the Phantom's son.
Definitely I would perish like Christine if I shared the stage with Ramin Karimloo and that kid has some talent at TEN YEARS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD (if that’s his correct age, idc I just had to)
I much prefer this version of Beauty Underneath than the one from Australia. Erik was rescued by Madam Giry from a travelling circus, where he presumably was put into a cage for all to observe (like an animal). There’s no reason why the Phantom would treat other disfigured people the same way (by putting them in weird glass boxes in the Australia versions).
I actually thougth they were automatons...? Because in the lyrics of "The Coney Island Waltz" there's a part that says "Wonders and astonishments for your delectation / Phantoms and automatons for your fascination". And, because I didn't see any automatons, I thougth the actors were representing them. They even kind of look like those fortune tellers machines. But I could be wrong. (I apologise if my english is incomprehensible hahaha, It isn't my first language and, even with Translator's help, I might have really messed up.)
@@paulaluvizutti2561 I too thought about these figures that way. Also because Erik is showing Gustave what he created and it would be more natural to say "hey Kid, look at what I created. I hope you like it too" rather than "hey kid, look at these beautifully weird people. I put them into glass boxes because it looks nice"
awwh when gustave grabs his arm and erik just smiles. its adorable. EDIT: ERIK PUTS HIS HAND OVER GUSTAVE'S WHEN THAT HAPPENS LEMME JUST STOP AND CRY FOR A BIT 4:51
Love how Erik cries out “No” as Gustave gets too close to the Christine statue, then tells one of his freaks to “Take the boy” so he can discreetly spin the statue out of sight. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ That’s such a perfect moment. It’s like....oops, Daddy was looking at naughty pictures of Mommy and in walks the young son....Daddy must hide the evidence and keep the boy’s view of Mommy pure. Which he does. And then The Beauty Underneath and the confrontation are fantastic.
This scene is def scarier/darker than the newer version but I still really like it, I wish they could've combined the theme of this scene (the scary creatures/people, props, etc.) with the theatrics and movement of the newer version, this scene really hooks into the intrigue and appreciation the Phantom has for things of darkness, which is a lifestyle he has faced always, giving me Tim Burton vibes sorta which I love lol also stan Ramin and Sierra forever, my fav Phantom and Christine ever
Exactly. I mean, we need a remake of LND with Ramin and Sierra on it, with the stage design props and costumes of the Aus prod, and FILM IT. But I like the walking skeleton here and scary creatures. They must get Tim Burton as a director lol
Erik: Take a look around. Gustave: * goes straight to the gun and picks it up * Erik: * casually takes it from him as he walks by without even looking away from the paper * My mans said “ give me this, thanks ” 🤣🤣🤣
He is for sure, I feel like ALW would agree if he was honest, he 100% picked the best cast for the 25th and to choose these 2 to head this up as well. They're certainly the best pairing
matthew Hughes ...I agree, the staging in the Australian version is so much better, but the chemistry wasn’t there for me between Ben and Anna. They did a great job re-working the show, It would be great Sierra and Ramin could come together and do it again, and have it filmed.
cassie earle .... I watched a recent video, shot only in the last week where Ramin was wondering if he’d ever play the phantom again, and his wife in the background said she thought he definately would, and I’ve also seen Andrew Lloyd Webber saying it’s coming back. I’ve got a feeling what we want might happen. Fingers crossed 🤗🤞
I love the chuckles from the audience at the beginning when the skeleton pushes the cart- like im sure that effect was meant to bewilder, but instead it just made people laugh- utter perfection
Yeah... It got really mixed reviews when it first opened in West End in 2010, many critics hated it and they had to make some changes to the show. This is filmed after major changes, and in my opinion, they should've filmed this. But Andrew was more happy with the Australian production and people there wanted to film it and he gave permission to do so. I honestly love this version more than the Australian/current tour version. Really don't even wanna see the touring version, because it's too different from the original.
@@operaghost7381 I actually saw the US tour when it came to my place. They completely changed this scene and I didn't know it's better or worse. The father-son relationship was hella creepy in the US production.
airways always I’ve seen some videos of the touring version and didn’t like it so much. I also like how Ramin’s Phantom plays his relationship with Gustave more fatherly, so it’s not creepy. Ramin has children of his own and I think that comes out in this song. Btw, do you think the audience liked the show? I have seen many people say that when they went to see LND, many people left during intermission.
@@operaghost7381 Well the one I saw I guess it's OK? Some of them was laughing during Beautiful because the phantom was screaming SING FOR ME and the audience was like Yeah sing for me my angel of music. It's really creepy.
Thatkindofguy Wow. 😬 I get what they were trying to do with that, a callback to the original, but I guess it doesn’t work so well when he’s saying it to a child. It just comes off as creepy.
The way he says "My Son" just breaks my heart. It shows how much he wants to be part of his life but would much rather stay away from him to 'protect' him
"And soul to soul we will once more be whole. Phantom When i Hear you sing Christine Once More" This lines just shows how much they were longing to be with each other and also "All i create on this earth. All that i will never be worth. All shall be his" makes me cry everytime 😭
holy guacamole I just realised, when Phantom and Gustave sing together "all of my most secret dreams somehow set free" Gustave sings about Phantom as a person who sees world just like him, but Phantom sings about Gustave as a son, not as person who sees the world the same AND NOW THE SONG HITS DIFFERENT
All his gestures from 11:35 are just... perfect. THAT'S good acting. TBH, I prefer the Australian version, and I like its cast, but it lacks... well... Ramin and his acting. He owns the stage as the Phantom.
This part is kinda sad when you think about the fact that this is the first time Erik has willingly taken off his mask to show someone only to be rejected again...
Just because he was a musical prodigy doesn’t mean the Phantoms the dad though. Keep in mind Christines father was a famed violinist, and Christine sang like an angel. Music is just in his blood.
It's the talent for composing that sets him apart. Gustave isn't just displaying proficiency with an instrument or singing. But he's composing on the fly, based on a song he's hearing in his head. Erik says that's how the process is for him in the beginning of this musical. So that's what they went with.
i love how this musical emphasizes that erik isn’t a stinky, angry, monster like they potrayed him in phantom of the oprea, but can be passionate, loving, and humorous.
Except he's actually significantly LESS sympathetic in LND. He isn't a monster in phantom (at least not ramins version) he's a very damaged man who has suffered great cruelty and loneliness who didn't full understand the concept of love. His actions are wrong but you get how he got there and the character works because he learns mercy at the end and let's christine go. Here he had a successful business isn't living in a cellar due to the oztacization of society and seems to have learned nothing actually going as far as to THREATEN TO KILL A CHILD!
Personally I don't consider this as canon as a sequel to POTO. I treat it as more of a What If scenario, because there's some inconsistencies that don't match up with the POTO. Idk it just doesn't seem like it would relate to POTO, just using it's characters.
In my view it's quite difficult to determine whether Ben's or Ramin's interpretation of the phantom is the better one. Both of them have a stunning and unique voice, that's a sure thing. But personally I think that Ben fits rather to the role of the elder Erik than to the younger. Ramin embodies suitably the two versions.
Think how much better the movie would have been with Ramin and Sierra, they add so much passion and chemistry to roles. Edit: thank for so many likes, #RIERRA
Emily ** I don’t know. I really do love Ben and Anna’s interpretation of Erik and Christine, where they both are mad at each other for lying, but still love each other. Then again Sierra and Ramin are SO good together it’s unbelievable.
Videos like this are where people who like Love Never Dies, are able to enjoy the musical without being attacked by the other POTO fans. *Its beautiful*
@@DarkxAngelxHeart not attacking YOU but as someone who can't stand this convoluted character assassinating dumpsterfire how can you like phantom and like THIS? It literally defeats the point of Erik's original arch takes away 99% of what made him sympathetic in the original. Pulls Ron the death eater syndrome on Raoul (ie going oc on the original hero and demonizing them to make the rival look better). Wrecks poor Meg and Madame giry. Christine's love for the Phantom is exceptionally dissonant with everything from the original as well. Yes she did love Erik in her own way he had been a long time mentor, comfort, and friend but she never appeared to love him romantically. She pitied and felt empathy for him mourning the loss of their connection. But that was it. Then we get told oh she actually did love him before despite you know EVERYTHING she said in the lair and her arch about growing a backbone. And no longer allowing others to dictate her decisions. Ramin and Sierra's chemistry nearly sells it if you forget the original completely. But I literally cannot understand how one can like something that spits on everything wonderful about the original? I wish Erik and Christine had gotten together but THIS isn't the way to do it. It feels more like a half baked fanfiction which is almost an insult to fanfiction because I've read better versions of how to get these two together. So how can you like it? Genuinely curious?
I love Phantom Of The Opera 2004, Gerald Butler is hot and amazing, but Ramin Karmiloo makes Phantom HILARIOUS and just- WOW. ESPECIALLY in Devil Take The Hindmost like- WOW.
@@sundus928I really like “The World’s More Full of Weeping Than You Can Understand” by Mertens on ao3. It takes place a few years after the original story. Erik still lives under the Opera House but he’s just kinda tired and sad after everything that happened so he’s not doing villain stuff anymore. Christine’s engagement to Raoul never worked out (not through anyone’s fault but just because sometimes that’s how life is) and she does professional singing for a while but one day loses her voice from an illness. She goes back to Paris because she doesn’t really know what to do with herself anymore and they reconnect and help each other heal. I really like it because it has lots of cute fluffy couple moments as they grow closer but also lots of nice angst. I also really enjoy Erik still having most of his insecurities and vulnerabilities but finally mature and self-aware enough not to take them out on other people anymore. It makes him internalise all of it which is good angst reading but also provides so many hurt/comfort opportunities for him and Christine 👌 It borrows from a ton of different Phantom media so it’s not exclusively musical-compliant but I don’t think it would be hard to follow if you’ve only watched that. It’s a really comfy fic - not exactly action-packed but I found myself staying up sooooo late unable to put it down nonetheless.
Despite have seen this one thousand times, I just noticed that at 5:29 Erik wants to continue/complete the sentence of Gustave, but his son doesn't stop ! Woaw
He said never to tell Gustave the truth, but he doesn’t give a fig if Raoul knows.😆 In fact I think Erik was definitely looking for a reason to tell him, as Christine by promising to sing for him here and almost kissing him just showed him unintentionally that she still wanted him…thus motivating him to fight to get her back, and plus the prospect of having Gustave in his life even if the kid didn’t know he was really his father, just lit that fire under his behind even more.
8:56 A sigh of like..... 😔 sigh and then thinking damn Christine....I just found out I have a son and have missed 10 years of my sons life, but what could you have done. You softened my heart yet again.
When will Hollywood make 2 phantom movies with just these two ,they have amazing chemistry that I have never seen on Broadway. That I think would translate well in a movie.
First off I love that people laugh at the skeleton thing. This version has some weird stuff. Okay all versions do 😂😂😂😂 And something about Ramin saying Squelch is killing me
Binomische Formeln He does! No one in the comments has mentioned it before, but that is actually one of the reasons why I love Ramin as the Phantom; he always adds little things here and there, especially in Love Never Dies :)
13:26 most magical orchestra part of the whole musical. I imagine the low brass and the trombones with their arm stretched as far as it can go. Ive always been in love with chord resolution and low brass parts. Id start at 13:20 so you don't miss it. Then Ramin perfectly does his entrancing hand motions 😬😂🙂 at the full orchestra.
I was doubtful at first that the London version would be better than the Australian version but now I’m convinced, London is better than Australian. And who needs Paternity Tests when you’ve got pianos?
I agree. I really enjoyed the London Cast Album, so when it was announced it was coming to Australia, I was so excited. I went and saw it in Melbourne and, honestly, I was disappointed. I mean, sure, everyone did an amazing job and it was visually beautiful. I just didn't enjoy Ben Lewis as the Phantom. Maybe it's because Ramin's Phantom is so ingrained in my head, I don't know. I also didn't like the changes to the songs, especially Only For You/Only For Him. That was one of my favourites from the cast album and I didn't like how it was in the Australian production.
YES to EVERYTHING you've said. All I like about the Aus are the stage design, props, costumes. Anna and Ben were amazing too in their own ways, but for me, Ramin and Sierra will ALWAYS br the BEST Phanyom and Christine in POTO and LND. First, Ramin's hand gestures. Then the emotions, passion, interpretation they out in every word to portray their characters perfectly. Anna didnt even have blood on her gunshot wound lol
This staging is strangely 'static' compared to the Australian version which I saw at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne all those many years ago...watch 'The Beauty Underneath' with its swirling and strange obelisks filled with circus freaks and the wonderful footwork of the performers moving amongst the same obelisks whilst singing...it is quite remarkable and wonderful. We had a rather passionless Phantom there...would have loved Karim to perform the role....simply electric. I didn't enjoy the show back then, but have certainly come to enjoy it in the intervening years...
Agree. I saw this live 3 times, and the staging is basic about from the automatons. The set is very undynamic. The Australian one is amazing. But yes, Ramin is a far more accomplished actor than Ben Lewis.
Ramin is the beautiful underneath. His hand styling in perfection as he directs the robatic objects. I love this version of Love Never Dies. I want to buy it. Also, I love his action with the young actor. I love this Musical.
Ah, the joy! To know you have a progeny to leave your legacy to. To know that someone on this earth carries YOUR blood. Who is your family. Who will remember you :) I am glad the Phantom has a son with Christine.
Ramin and Sierra are my favourite pairing of Phantom and Christine... wish they'd do a show like the 25th anniversary Phantom for this... with these 2 back in their roles
I remember in the production I saw, Gustave played the soprano riff from The Phantom Of The Opera as part of his piano bit, after he played the "Beautiful" motif
I love how Christine is always able to reduce him into a lovesick puddle no matter how furious he gets by simple responding to him with love, he’s experienced so little love in his life he’s still in awe every time Christine gives her love to him. He still expects her to be repulsed by his face but she doesn’t so much as flinch, she already knows what he looks like and it stopped frightening her a long time ago (Look With Your Heart, etc) And then she grabs his face and almost kisses him, after he almost chokes her (me thinks Christine might have a dark side underneath that pure facade 😅) and he’s still in shock she touched his face lol. She knows how to handle him, whereas in POTO I don’t think she was mature enough yet and he understandably scared her. Christine is a Woman now and she knows him too well…the fact that she’s not scared of his moods and is knows how to defuse the situation is why I CAN believe the choice she makes at the end of LND, even though Erik is still a wildcat, she has learned how to make him HER wildcat so to speak.
The expression on his face when Gustave touches his hand..... AAAAAAH Ramin why are you so beautiful. Also when Ramin gasped at 11:05, I did too. As my heart fell into my stomach at that moment AHG
I prefer this version, Phantom actually acts like he'd be a pretty cool dad and he's super excited about the kid, the Aus version felt creepy and detached.

That mentioned, and I've been watching PoTO related videos these past days since the 25th anniversary. He is the best one because Ramin put tons of details on his Phantom than the other Phantoms. They had different charm, but Ramin's was the most relatable Phantom I've seen so far. I hope I can watch him and Sierra in PoTO someday even though it's quite impossible since I live in Indonesia :(
How can Ramin look so cute even in that face?
The "good side" looks so boyish and cute in profile here.
He is so hansome and sexy with his mask on. I would surrender to him any time. And when he sings omg
Ramin's hand gestures during Beauty Underneath are doing things to me
He has such talent that he can "sing: with his hand gestures as well as with his amazing voice.
@@diannelavoie5385 true. I mean, in the Aus prod,I dont think he used hand gestures the way Ramim did. For me, that's important.

Ramin has such gorgeous hands. The way he uses them is just out of this world and so expressive that combined with his out of this world voice just does things to me i can't explain 😍💖
@@kyrieb33 heheehhe yeaaaaassss i absolutely agree omg
I love that at 9:20 he relaxes and becomes so comfortable with her that he stops covering his face and she doesn't turn away. They then sing close up. It feels like a true loving moment where they are both finally at peace with each other.
Which would wor great if it didn't contradict everything from the original musical. Kinda wish this was how the original unmasking had gone
Yes, and for the first time since before "that night". But would someone please explain to the makeup folks that no one can walk around with part of their brain exposed. At least that's what it looks like. I understand the need for shock value to reach those of us who were sitting just under the ceiling, but really!
@@lefantomer Solid point you make there!
Definitely I would perish like Christine if I shared the stage with Ramin Karimloo and that kid has some talent at TEN YEARS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD (if that’s his correct age, idc I just had to)
Gustave: Has a gun
Erik: well yes but actually no
exatly
I cant belive this Performance is just TEN YEARS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD
I assumed that the caged people were consenting adults doing a job rather than caged against their will ;-)
I actually thougth they were automatons...? Because in the lyrics of "The Coney Island Waltz" there's a part that says "Wonders and astonishments for your delectation /
Phantoms and automatons for your fascination".

I want Sierra and Ramin with the Aussie stage design, that would be perfect😍
I think ramin is the best broadway phantom there has ever been,i could listen to him sing for ages 😍 so much emotion when he sings

Ramin's voice is perfect for this song
Hes perfect in any song 😍
I love the chuckles from the audience at the beginning when the skeleton pushes the cart- like im sure that effect was meant to bewilder, but instead it just made people laugh- utter perfection
Can sombody tell why they DIDN'T put this version in the DVD? HOLY MOTHER.

Erik in POTO: sad lonely boy in opera basement
Erik in LND: looks like he owns a club
holy guacamole I just realised, when Phantom and Gustave sing together "all of my most secret dreams somehow set free" Gustave sings about Phantom as a person who sees world just like him, but Phantom sings about Gustave as a son, not as person who sees the world the same AND NOW THE SONG HITS DIFFERENT

Music is just in his blood.
mdmelnoelle Very good point.
It's the talent for composing that sets him apart. Gustave isn't just displaying proficiency with an instrument or singing. But he's composing on the fly, based on a song he's hearing in his head. Erik says that's how the process is for him in the beginning of this musical. So that's what they went with.
His fucking mother cant compose. And neither can Raoul- as far as I know. And they fucked- him and Christine. So its not too far of a stretch.
@EloiseRaeCullen that's exactly why the Phantom sings, 🎵He's just ten years old. Ten years old!🎵
They legit have a song about how Christine slept with Erik, and how she married Roul fast so she could hide the fact she was pregnant.
the costume makes the phantom look hot
AGREED, it's so much better than the dvd's
ramin karimloo is a beautiful man, he can’t be made unattractive it’s impossible, even as the phantom, it just makes him even hotter tbh

i love how this musical emphasizes that erik isn’t a stinky, angry, monster like they potrayed him in phantom of the oprea, but can be passionate, loving, and humorous.
I read this comment just as he started choking Christine. What a timing.
@@godgus1863 She did hide his child from him for 10 years. He got angry I guess.

It makes him internalise all of it which is good angst reading but also provides so many hurt/comfort opportunities for him and Christine 👌
It borrows from a ton of different Phantom media so it’s not exclusively musical-compliant but I don’t think it would be hard to follow if you’ve only watched that. It’s a really comfy fic - not exactly action-packed but I found myself staying up sooooo late unable to put it down nonetheless.

He said never to tell Gustave the truth, but he doesn’t give a fig if Raoul knows.😆
In fact I think Erik was definitely looking for a reason to tell him, as Christine by promising to sing for him here and almost kissing him just showed him unintentionally that she still wanted him…thus motivating him to fight to get her back, and plus the prospect of having Gustave in his life even if the kid didn’t know he was really his father, just lit that fire under his behind even more.

First off I love that people laugh at the skeleton thing. This version has some weird stuff. Okay all versions do 😂😂😂😂

Wow. I love this version, especially this soft, gentel voice of Gustav saying "yes".
The best part of the scene, before we hear Ramin's dulcet voice, is when he just casually takes the gun from Gustave.
4:52 does Erik say "yes I am" 😂?
Binomische Formeln He does! No one in the comments has mentioned it before, but that is actually one of the reasons why I love Ramin as the Phantom; he always adds little things here and there, especially in Love Never Dies :)

WHY THEY DID NOT RECORD THIS!!! Ramin and Sierra really fits the character!!!
The Aussie version just have a good stage, that's all T_T
YES to EVERYTHING you've said. All I like about the Aus are the stage design, props, costumes. Anna and Ben were amazing too in their own ways, but for me, Ramin and Sierra will ALWAYS br the BEST Phanyom and Christine in POTO and LND. First, Ramin's hand gestures. Then the emotions, passion, interpretation they out in every word to portray their characters perfectly. Anna didnt even have blood on her gunshot wound lol
There's a recording of the songs
2:24 I finally found it. "Ten Years OLLLLDDD"
Honestly, every time I see another video of Love Never Dies my appreciation of it grows stronger - even though it has flaws! ^^

Thank you. Please more. I am really interested in this production.
Ramin and Sierra are my favourite pairing of Phantom and Christine... wish they'd do a show like the 25th anniversary Phantom for this... with these 2 back in their roles
I LOVE THAT THEY SANG TIL I HEAR YOU SING WITHOUT HIS MASK ON
I remember in the production I saw, Gustave played the soprano riff from The Phantom Of The Opera as part of his piano bit, after he played the "Beautiful" motif
Christine is a Woman now and she knows him too well…the fact that she’s not scared of his moods and is knows how to defuse the situation is why I CAN believe the choice she makes at the end of LND, even though Erik is still a wildcat, she has learned how to make him HER wildcat so to speak.
whoever had that guitar solo at 2:59, must have been shredding those chord, it sounds so powerful
This is just beautiful. So very beautiful 😍 Thank you ❤
The expression on his face when Gustave touches his hand.....
2:24 TEN YEEEEARS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD

I mean, LND is definitely not perfect, but I still love it and I still think that scenes with Erik and his son are just adorable.
