Pelican uses very soft plastic. Not cured to be hard like some automotive plastic. I have a Pelican kayak and it gouges very easily if the bottom touches anything.
On the cargo cases you’ve received, do the lids have an actual rubber gasket seal? Pelicans website description says they do, but all of the photos and limited amount of videos on the cargo cases I’ve seen doesn’t look like they have an actual seal? Just looks like 2 raised molded edges that are just really snug for a sealed fit without a seal like around 1:14 on your video? Thanks!
I didn’t realize that I didn’t get a specific shot of the rubber gasket. But to answer your question yes these are waterproof / weather proof because of the rubber gasket. It is worth mentioning that the rubber gasket has a “seam” in it and it’s not one whole piece. I hope this helps!
Thanks! I watched it last night when it appeared in my notifications during the 5 hour drive that I had heading back home last night. Was exactly what I was looking for since Pelican hasn't emailed me back in months about it. Really appreciate it!
Just wanted to confirm, the case mount hardware is compatible the prinsu racks? No special bolts/nuts needed for me to hunt for or request from Pelican/Prinsu? I just ordered the prinsu rack for my T4R, so I'm curious, thanks!
I have them on my Tacoma Prinsu Rack. If you plan on using the Mounts that Pelican provides then the bolts and nuts that come with the Mounts will not be compatible. I personally used the bolts and nuts from a Prinsu Accessory called "PRINSU TIE DOWN RING HARDWARE KIT" these will slide in the cross bars perfectly and the length of the screw wont dig too much into the case
That’s a great question. Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for that. A good fallback measure would to rely on the lifetime warranty that comes with the case.
Yes the case is a separate purchase than the mount. Although the mount is not 100% needed it does allow for an efficient way to secure and lock the case down. I have a Prinsu Roof Rack and I found that the tie down rings from Prinsu have the necessary hardware. to use with the mounts from Pelican.
Yes most of the mounts are available. The BX85S roof mount came right away. And the BX140R Roof amount just came today. So it was delayed like a couple weeks.
The sides of your prinsu rack look pretty scratch free. I've found the sides of mine scratch super easy, like if a screw even grazes the side. Is the video hiding scratches or do you not have that problem? Thanks!
The Rack itself is about 3 months old and has been lightly used. I have normal wear and tear on the Rails or "bars" but not so much on the sides specifically.
I personally wouldn’t wait. Could be years until they release a new version. I needed the security and the weather proof features these specific cases provided....drilling into a regular $400 Pelican case and voiding the weather proof was what I was trying to avoid.
@@_neeks Yeah that is true. I was thinking of getting one of the cross bed cargo boxes for my silverado but then realized that I don't think it would work well with my tonneau cover. Might just get the box and have to figure my own mounting solution.
@@kelleynelson8059 I would say so. It would take someone some time but a knife could do the trick. The top or “lid” of the case is a hard plastic. But the “body” is the thinner material I mentioned. Not your typical Pelican Case.

Your video was super helpful and I liked that you showed the details very clearly while you explained the areas of opportunity for pelican.
Glad it was helpful!
Yeah
I'm concerned about limited options to put locks and the thin plastic
I concerned it's a easier case to break and steal 😕
Im glad I watched this before purchasing. The thin material is a major red flag.
What is that mounting system called?
My rack is from Prinsu. The Pelican boxes come with mounts that are made by the brand Front Runner I believe.
Pelican uses very soft plastic. Not cured to be hard like some automotive plastic. I have a Pelican kayak and it gouges very easily if the bottom touches anything.
100% true. It's not like their traditional cases
Prefer these or Roam?
Hey tnx for the review man. Are they sturdy enough to sit on?
Of course. Yes sit and stand.
Hey whats up Neeks! Curious what bed rack are you running? Thanks!
Hey! I have a CBI 6ft rack for the tacoma 2020
Killer video man!
Thank you!

With the case being so thin I wonder if in really hot states like Texas or Arizona it could cause the case to warp.
That’s a great question. Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for that. A good fallback measure would to rely on the lifetime warranty that comes with the case.
so you have to buy the case as well as the mounting hardware from pelican? and the accesory tie down from Prinsu?

@@andrewmchowell Yeah I would def look into that. I know Prinsu just announced they switched to a different powder coat within the last couple weeks.
So should I wait to see if they solve some of these issues you brought up or go ahead and buy?

You could possibly run chains through the side of the box as a temporary solution.
@@_neeks Regarding the security, is the case thin enough and soft that you could cut into it with a utility knife?
