"This game can only be played at night" is such a legitimately cool idea for a creepypasta game honestly, I wish more creepy games tried something like that.
i mean...hell girl did it years earlier with featuring a website that only exists at midnight where you then type in your revenge wish and the hell girl will come, give you a doll with a string around it (that you pull only if you are sure you want go through with it) and if you pull it the wish will be granted but your soul when you die will be the price.
@@JT5555 Hell Girl's website was extra creepy because the series aired before moderated social media sites took over the Internet, and you could find obscure/scary websites or forums purely by accident.
@@errortryagainlater4240 it also reads so much like a creepypasta that if you didn't know it was a series, you'd think it was a sort of ghost story along the lines of jeff the killer.
The funny thing is, Pinkamena wasn't even originally an alternate version of Pinkie. Pinkamena Diane Pie is just her canonical full name, and her hair is naturally straight. Pinkie just canonically goes by a nickname and has a constant case of bed head because she doesn't brush her hair.
Oh i see. So her poofy hair is really just bed hair. That makes sense. When we saw her childhood, she had her hair straight and when the Sonic Rainboom happened, it messed her hair.
@ClaraGemHeart 🇺🇦 yup! Even in the season 5 finale, in the futures where the rainboom never happened, Pinkie's hair is straight in the future in which she's fighting against Sombra's army as she needs to keep it neat, but messy in the future with the war against the changlings as in that future she has no way to brush it.
the poofy hair thing has always been sort of a cartoon logic thing tbh, i'm sure it has something to do with her not brushing, but it is very heavily used to symbolize her mental state throughout the show -- in much later seasons her hair still deflates when she's sad. i see it as more of a pinkie sense thing than a "she just doesn't brush" thing. coming from a curly haired person i find it hard to believe she could be both naturally straight-maned and get that kind of bedhead.
I absolutely hated horror when I was a kid. That image of Jeff the Killer got me losing sleep for the first time in my life back then. Now, I found out I just hated jumpscares. I love psychological horror.
I've been told people think I'm mentally insane by making that original Rainbow Factory animation. They might be right, but it was just really fun making something not flowery and pink for a fandom so saturated with it.
i just think it’s not right to make them so easy to find for little kids on youtube because even if they are supervised it seemingly blends in with other content for children
I remember watching it as a young kid, and was so scared, but now rewatching it. It's really not that bad. (maybe I just got more desensitized to gore idk)

Now the whole "game could only be played at night " mechanic should have blown up that is a really great idea. Like a game that during the day is simple and cute but at night glitches out and shows its true side
There was a game with a similar game mechanic. All I remember about it though was that the game was made my a Finnish game dev and you played as a vampire so that's why you couldn't play it during the day lol.
@@rubberbiscuit1656I came here to comment that! I will say, from what i’ve heard most people just changed the time on their PC to make it work, and while it’s a cool idea it’s not super practical to lock out the majority of the game based on time, and a lot of players find it more annoying than cool. I think making it so the game can be played at any time, but it becomes creepier at night, is a better idea since it’s not making the game unplayable to people who just don’t have a nighttime gaming schedule
i’m so glad companies are finally beginning to actually enforce their age restrictions on websites and social medias because no kid should ever have to be exposed to the content i was at such a young age. 6 year old me googling ‘my little pony’ stories and falling down a wormhole to sweet apple massacre fucked with me.

FR!! The first fanfic i ever read was a fic based on cupcakes. VERY graphic and gorey. Its actually a very good fic FOR ADULTS. but as a 13 y/o it pretty much shaped my entire fandom experience which really messed with me.
I personally liked “the cough”. It was simple in its execution and didn’t have anyone be a generic serial killer, if you swapped out the ponies for random humans it could probably pass off as a regular creepy story.
I remember watching the old creepypasta speedpaints and thinking "Wow this level of art is unachievable. They are a literal god" and now that i look back it was very much achievable. I wonder what kid me would say now
I personally had less of an issue with the cheesy horror from the brony fandom and more of an issue with the amount of porn that came from it. Some of it was easy to avoid but playthroughs of games like Banned from Equestria daily were way too easy for me to come across on youtube at 13.
@@Name-tn1zg there was LOADS it was everywhere. it was definitely responsible for subjecting a lot of young girls to inappropriate content. i was around 11 in 2010 and you couldn’t look for my little pony content without accidentally finding nsfw stuff, even if you weren’t directly looking for it. i have no problem with people making nsfw, i just wish it was better monitored.
youtube deleted my comment ofc so im gonna rewrite it: same, i was exposed to some... 'explicit' content through the internet at a very young age (6-7) and it really messed me up. its scary to think about how easily accessible that content is on the internet (and how a lot of parents dont supervise their kids internet usage, including mine).
@@eatglass.7546 oh my god I got into the MLP fandom in 2013 or 2014 I had an iPad back then but most of the time I would watch them on tv. I’m lucky that I didn’t find them
The main lesson from this is: tag systems exist for a reason! Correctly tagging triggering, gorey or NSFW content will not always prevent an incorrect audience consuming content not made for their demographic group, but it definitely will make it less likely for young or sensible audiences to accidentaly find it!
The big problem are sites that either don't have a proper tagging system, or sites that have awful tagging systems. RUclips doesn't really have a tagging system in the same way other sites do, which leads to videos like the Elsagate videos getting in the eyes of children. As someone who's friends with a lot of NSFW artists and is a part of that community, we'd be happy to tag our stuff and make it so kids can't see it. The problem is that sites don't really accommodate for it and would rather just purge it instead of work out a proper soultion
@@wasperfly Kids should simply not be on the internet. And if they are, have safe search on. That way, google filters out anything that isn't child friendly. Also, you can't really blame someone for making something and a kid seeing it. That person didn't intend for kids to see it, you can't blame the creator. By that logic, nothing creepy, gorey or nsfw should exist on the internet because kids might find it.
thank you for mentioning the impact nsfw content had on kids. the things i was exposed to… not just inappropriate content, but inappropriate situations with adult fans who took advantage of my naivety… i’m still deeply affected by all of it, and i know i’m not the only one. now that i’m an adult myself, it’s disgusting to look back at how little regard there was for the safety of children in the fandom.
I had the same exact experience unfortunately. We should make a support group lol. In a not-joking way, I would really like to connect with more people who understand that experience. I know a lot of people who got groomed on the internet as kids but I feel like the bestiality and overwhelming amount of pedophiles in that fandom in particular made it so much worse.
For a good 5 or so years the most popular video on my channel (by far) was a Cupcakes-themed animated music video, so it's wild seeing that era of pony be described when I was, like, kind of part of it in a way? Very fun to return to it ❤
In my opinion there's typically nothing wrong with making mature content based off of entertainment for children. The problem is those who make that content easily accessible and who don't put a warning beforehand. It's also partially the fault of parents who don't make sure the content their younger children watch is appropriate.
Same- I got scarred after that and still is, like Lil Miss Rarity must be the most f up MLP Creepypasta I ever seen, I remember few years back re-finding the video and clicking because I had forgotten that the video was the same one that I got scarred with and what surprised me the most about is that it’s wasn’t age restricted like some videos on RUclips that contains extremely mature content, most of the time being sexual, but I just stood there there wondering why the video wasn’t age restricted or why didn’t it had any warning, sure it could be shock value but still at least a warning
Well the stuff was during the early 2010s, and most people/parents don't really know the dangers of the internet until the mid-to-late 2010s. But yeah parents should monitor their kids, especially if they're on the internet.
honestly this sort of content within the MLP fandom wasn't just too accessible for kids, it was pretty much unavoidable. Like, I remember searching for MLP stuffed animals on google when I was around 11 or 12 (so around the height of the fandom) and one of the first things to come up was someone selling stuffed MLP sex dolls.
The responsibility of censorship does not belong to the content creator. It belongs to the parent. The internet is far from child friendly. Think about it as a rated r film.
The Cough fanfiction is the one that really broke me. (Spoilers ahead, graphic content I won't elaborate on) It was about some illness that isn't fully elaborated on, but is heavily implied to be a zombie virus or something similar. The only symptom before it's too late is a cough. The first line was something like "In the darkness, somebody coughed." And well, let's just say that poor Rainbow Dash is forced to graphically kill Fluttershy for coughing to prevent her from turning, only for the last line to also be, "In the darkness, somebody coughed." It was brutal...
I can see how that fanfic would destroy a child’s mind into thinking a cough = death. It messes me up even to this day when they turn normal, every day life things into horror stories, because my anxiety is “that will happen to you soon!”
Holy shit the cough isn't talked about enough! I still remember reading that in a book store in a subway station waiting for the next train 6 years ago. 😂

A clarification about Pinkamena: her acting crazy only lasted a single scene. Most of the time she was just apathetic and grumpy. She also turned Pinkamena in Yakity Sax, a later episode with a lot less creepiness.
Also for the What My Cutie Mark is Telling Me/A True, True Friend section of Magical Mystery Cure! She turns into pinkamena when she had applejack’s cutie mark because the chores were physically and emotionally draining
True, she acted like... well, the opposite of how Pinkie Pie usually acts. Wasn't that all about that being a side of her that she had a long time ago when she lived with her family in their rock farm?
I remember my best friend told me "oh my gosh, NEVER look up Rainbow Factory!!" I didn't when I was a kid, thinking it would be scary. I looked it up later as a teen out of morbid curiosity... Needless to say, did not have the impact I thought it would have.
I used to watch Yum Soda's mini series on it and I was so disappointed she stopped it. Later on she said something like '''I don't know why i thought it was a good idea to make such a violent kids series'' but I really liked it and was disappointed she quit.
This brings back memories! "Cupcakes" is probably one of the more disturbing creepypastas I've read over the years, pretty gross even by my standards 😅 Good job on the vid!
I'm gonna be honest, there's a part of me that finds "An Apple Sleep Experiment" scarier than "The Russian Sleep Experiment" especially after listening to The Lost Narrator's rendition of it. I found it pretty clever how the author used actual symptoms of sleep deprivation turned up to 11 and liked that it wasn't actually a beat for beat recreation of the original story. The ending with Applejack in prison crying out asking what happened to her sister while Twilight walks away honestly gives me chills.
Same here, the brutal truth that hallucinations and loss of inhibitions, combined with an impossible situation caused so much pain and death is far scarier to me than the idea that people just turn into weird cannibalistic monsters because there's basically a demon that we ward off with sleep. The memory loss, and pain of knowing that what you did was so horrible that your friends have all abandoned you (or worse) hits hard, and Applejack, who's entire existence is based on family, is the perfect fit to emphasize just how bad the lack of sleep twists the mind
It's certainly interesting for those that borrow more from an original story(kind of relates to crossover stories)to get their readers at least looking into it and maybe also liking said sources.
I have mixed feelings about the debate about adult fans of children's media posting adult content related to the series. Because, I don't think the answer is "yes, they should post it" or "No they shouldn't post it", instead, I think "If a fanbase is based on a show for children, but has a large adult following, the adult following should have an adult only place to post that stuff", which has worked in the past. For example, the adult fans of Undertale actually created a unique tag on multiple websites, for NSFW content involving the game, and wouldn't mark things as #undertale (And those who did were often chastised). I think people would have cared a lot less about Bronies if they had done something like that, because it would significantly reduce the number of children seeing the adult content, but would let adults search it out just fine
Yeah i have some pretty mixed feelings about this too, but im of the stronger opinion this type of adult content shouldn't be so readily available to children,, especially since youtube STILL allows gore like SHED and cupcakes with no warning. May not have been the case for everyone but it gave me nightmares as a child- but regardless of if it did or didnt give other children nightmares or trauma-- kids should nOT be exposed to this stuff There are some just straight up demented shit people felt too comfortable posting that i don't think should be posted ☆ at all ☆ though, such as the fics cherrilee's garden and trixie's fun house. at that point its just fucking snuff and disgusting- theres like no regard for the fact this is cHILDRENS media. i feel really bad for any child who came across that, it really did ruin the experience for my friends and myself
Thank you, I agree. The creators of the show have no control over who will like their content. So it’s up the the adults to be responsible and try and keep it out of kids hands. Thankfully I got into the show at 12 and didn’t find the NSFW content until around 15 when I was already getting into horror anyways.
@@vivalabowtie8346 i feel the same way too. I remember that I was exposed to a "cupcakes" animation when I was like,, idk, 5/6 years old?? Back in 2011/2012. I couldn't stop shaking uncontrollably for a moment after that but i had no choice but to comfort myself because there was no way I'd tell mom, I knew she'd just yell at me and make it worse-which sucks because obviously I didn't know better, or even knew what I was watching. All i saw was it was an MLP video, and clicked on it. thinking about it now, I'm sure that's likely what caused me to start picking my lips since then, i must have started biting them. There might have been another reason, but I cannot remember too well. Still, i do think that adults should be able to make their own content, but responsibly especially knowing that the show also attracts kids. Also,, better parenting could work too.
I'm seeing in these replies most of the problem came from the RUclips videos. And that's been a logntanding problem with RUclips that still exists to this day. Bronies were actually good about keeping stuff like that hidden from children. Equestria Daily was supposed to be family friendly, but there were a few oopsies that would happen. And... I don't remember perfectly of Ponibooru was already doing this when it was around, but Derpibooru has always done a good job of keeping adult content hidden from kids. And those were the two biggest pony sites then, and still now. I can't think of a 3rd... /mlp/ I guess? Which was always an adult oriented place. It may not have been instant, but Bronies did well to keep that stuff seperate. RUclips on the other hand couldn't give a damn. Also I don't think the Undertale fandom bothered to keep up with that rule on seperation once Deltarune came out. Thick-thighs Asriel is always appearing in my searches... And I'm only *sometimes* looking for that.

There are two interesting facts you may have missed (or maybe they just didn’t make the cut?) Cupcakes was a very VERY upbeat song Pinkie sang in S1 that spawned that creepypasta because of Pinkie’s weird and exaggerated obsession with them. Pinkamena Diane Pie is Pinkie’s CANON name! There was an episode later that showed her when she was young, before she became happy and curly.
sweet apple massacre and little miss rarity were the ones that disturbed me the most i think. it made the characters seem so adult and as a kid reading those it just made me feel so bad 😭
I have read Little miss rarity a year ago. My thought was “they really made Rarity a masochist, huh?” But you’re right. Kids should not be reading creepypasta as it will mess up their mind. And ESPECIALLY Sweet Apple Massacre!! (Never read it but i heard its very disturbing and after seeing the summary. NOPE. SO MUCH NOPE.)
27:09 is a really good point. I remember reading Sweet Apple Massacre as an older teen and being mortified by it. I didn't think about it at the time, but now that I think about all of the young kids that probably came across it, it's very upsetting. There's nothing necessarily wrong with adults existing in spaces made for kids and making their own adult content for it, at face value at least. But as an adult making this content, it's also your responsibility to make sure it only exists in adult spaces as best as you can, something the MLP fandom either lacked or chose not to do.

I feel like, as a brony, I owe the ex-kids here a bit of an apology. I was never into the horror stuff (it's not my cup of tea), but it's sad that so many kids were made uncomfortable by running across it. I think part of it was that nobody at the time thought the target audience was going to run across these kinds of things; when the Brony community started it was mostly teens and adults involved so no-one put any thought into kid safety. In later years, we got a bit better... but I've always felt bad about kids having been exposed to that kind of content. I remember a young lady who asked the show staff about Cupcakes at a con... I kept thinking of the Golan quote "Sometimes, Dylan, I fear I might be a bad influence on you."." I accept your apology. And besides, its fine now because looking back on it, being exposed to the horror and p*rn of my favorite childhood characters made me prepared for world dangers and kinda made me who I am today (in a good and bad way). One thing a lot of fans get confused about is that the original Cupcakes featured the poofy haired, bouncy Pinkie Pie. She doesn't break character. I tried to explain this and often get shut down or cut off before I can even finish. People want to imagine her as Pinkamena, which came later. One time I started off by saying "Cupcakes keeps her in character..." and I was "corrected" by being told that the Pinkamena episode came later. I didn't even get a chance to explain that I knew that already, and that was my whole point. That the Pinkie Pie in Cupcakes IS the poofy haired giggly one. NOT Pinkamena.

My personal take on making nsfw/horror art of a child oriented media - anyone should be allowed to take creative liberty to make whatever art they want, that’s a part of art! However I think it’s extremely important that there are DEDICATED spaces to those things, that way both the adults who want the nsfw content and the kids who shouldn’t be exposed to that can enjoy their media respectfully.
yep, and tagging art accordingly also works- aaaaltho i wouldn't recommend drawing "those" kinds of art with literal horse character cuz it might be borderlining criminal content yk

I remember watching this one playthrough of a game called "Part Time Job" where a pony oc needs a new job & somehow finds herself working at a mental hospital where Fluttershy works. Every night one pony from the hospital leaves, presumably because they've gotten "better" but later it's revealed that Fluttershy dismembers the ponies & sews them back together in grotesque ways so they can be sold to a circus. The main character promises the ponies that she'll find a way to free them & that's where the game ends I think. Funnily enough I later found out that it was very heavily inspired by 2 vocaloid songs called "Wide knowledge of the late maddness" and "The Dark woods circus" which basically have the same concept except for the protagonist needing to find a job, so in the songs no one ever finds out or promises their freedom. I was obsessed with this particular game & the songs it was based on for a good portion of my childhood lol.

i mean i feel like this is also equally as a reminder that adults in fandom spaces involving CHILDRENS media should be more mindful of the content they're creating and how accessible it is. even with proper monitoring and filters in place gorey and nsfw content could still be accessed. it's an issue when you can't search any of the main six on google without finding gross content of them even when these protective filters are in place, at that point that isn't the kids fault. that entirely falls on the adult for not tagging their stuff properly. i feel like everyone is SO fast to go "it's the fault of the kids / parents" which is true to a certain degree but just as equal of responsibility falls on the shoulders of adults because at the end of the day mlp was made for kids.
@@meevins None of what you said removes responsibility from the parents. If the parents can't or aren't able to help their children they should seek outside guidance. Once a child is exposed to something they will need a way to process it in a healthy way, parents are the ones responsible for facilitating that. In addition to this parents are also responsible for the access children have to the internet, strangers on the other side of the screen have zero control of that child or their access. Parents should be reasonably educated on what their kids may encounter and be able to help their kids. If you want to place blame you can go ahead and do so but often times preventative medicine is best. Be aware of what children do by monitoring their use of the internet, have open dialogue with them and be able to help them process issues as they arise. Expecting outsiders to be responsible for children when they aren't theirs is not practical.
and this happens REGULARLY. i cant go on fandom tags (specifically fandoms of shows made for children) without almost immediately finding nsfw/disturbing content. and i have literally as many censors in place as possible & i still see these things. cant imagine what goes through a kids head when they see some of the disgusting shit "anti antis" and their ilk churn out showing up in a common, sfw tag
I mean.. once a kid is old enough to explore the internet by themselves you should explain the dangers of the internet beforehand. luckily now nsfw tags and moderating is more prominent so its less likley for kids to run into stuff like this. Im not sure what monitoring your kid would do.. but thats just my opinion.
As a lover of early 2010s internet horror and an avid MLP fan, I think we should all get together and make a database for every MLP pasta/horror related thing we can find, just so we have one huge place to look back on it all
Funnily enough, "Grimdark" comes from Warhammer 40k. The openning blurb in the rule books for the tabletop game has had this quote for years, "There is no peace amongst the stars, for in the **grim darkness** of the far future, there is only war." It's usually used for crapshoot settings were everything is bad and most people are evil in someway, it's the opposite of, "Noblebright" settings.
it was really weird being nine years old in 2012 and just wanting wholesome my little pony content and finding all of this stuff. would definitely be interesting to talk to people who had similar experiences.
literally like i would love watching my little pony review videos and the creepy videos would pop up but children get curious and click on the videos which i did and i found the video smile and it terrified me as a child
I remember being 8 years old and discovering FNAF and all the really gorey stuff, and than discovering Creepypastas and than going down a hole filled with creepy MLP videos and comics like Rocket to Insanity and the MLP animation series with stay out of my shed and than not knowing what vore was and finding Cadence being fed Twilight by Shining Armour and being like oh that's how babies are made. Overall all this Edgy stuff has made me Into I am today which is some goofball who likes uncanny and disturbing things like Salad Fingers and Ena. :-)
the adult fans of the show absolutely traumatized me as a 10 year old. All the nsfw content they made was recommended to me after watching pirated episodes on youtube and i was genuinely scarred. There's nothing wrong with being an adult fan of a kid's show, but making the fandom unsafe for the target audience of said show? not cool. thats why im weary of bronies
SAMEEEEE i was so scared of everything else that was horror but for some reason i could watched the ponies killing each other with a straight face multiple times 💀💀 Anyone remember that smile song?
A lot of scary memories I remember being an innocent little girl just enjoying a kids show about ponies And then somehow end up watching all the absolutely horribly horrifying videos and being mortified by it I actually ended puking one time not fun
@@lydiagalantmotherf Hmmm, sounds unconventional, but I might try that! I almost finished the video, but I’ll replay it. I’ll also offer it the pancakes I’m making, hard to go wrong with those.
I remember the Story of the Blanks. It was a miniature horror game that somehow stuck with me even past my disillusionment with the fanbase as a whole. It was something that hit me HARD in my teens, feeling so safe until things went so... _wrong._ It's like how someone would react going into Doki Doki their first time. In a sense, it was my first experience actually playing a horror game.
oh my god me too!!! I actually really loved it as a kid because I found it really mysterious and i 100% credit that game for giving me my current love for mysterious video games and movies
Did you know it was a horror game prior to playing? I only found it due to TvTropes, so I was spoiled on it in advance, but I think I would have enjoyed it even more had I not known. I agree with your DDLC comparison!
anyone else find this video after the recent resurfacing of my little pony “infection aus” on tiktok? Really interesting how the generation of kids who watched the show and likely were altered by the creepypastas they saw as kids are now creating art and stories just like them.
I actually have to give Story of the Blanks some credit, since it went for some world-building & actual story and was more than "OMG gory screamer SHOCK!!".
I'd die to see a deep dive of Monster High or Ever After High-- I feel like those two shows would fit really well with this video format, and I've been wondering for awhile what happened to them
Ah I remember being into creepypastas, very nostalgic. "Cupcakes" was never really scary, I always found it pretty funny with how it was written. The only scary thing that came from me reading and watching fan animations of that story was a dream I had once. In it, I was talking to someone and they brought up how they like the MLP grimdark stories and I said I read Cupcakes and thought it was interesting. And then they began rearranging my organs telling me how much they *love* and take inspiration from that story. They never stopped smiling and looking me in the eyes. Yeah that shit was unnerving to dream about. The story was still funny though.
Creepypasta for me never really that scary, even famous one like godzilla nes or ben drowned. But sure hell there are trully disturbing one here and there i found. Creepypasta was like that crappy horror writing contest, there sure are alot of crappy story but sometimes you will find story that will traumatized you.
honestly I must’ve had a guardian angel watching over me when I was a kid on the Internet, because I always managed to avoid the outright gory, NSFW content 99.9% of the time
Same here, except I remember innocent 8 year old me a stumbled upon the weird rainbow dash vs discord video and I think another one about flutter shy being a serial killer
Cheers for the interesting analysis. I loved your “better than college debt” joke, because a lot of people have compared Rainbow Factory’s Flight Test with high school finals; that idea of “If you fail this one thing, the rest of your life is forfeit” pressure that’s put on students. Also it’s always cool hearing my name in RUclips videos too, so that was sweet :)
*Twilight Sparkle:* _"I can't find the friendship problem. I'LL MAKE A FRIENDSHIP PROBLEM!"_ *Power of Friendship:* I fear no man, but that thing... it scares me.

honestly it shaped who i am and im more understanding because of it so i don't really give a fuck. i played story of the blanks when i was 3-5 years old. i was terrified but it's so fun revisiting knowing thats what caused me to be a horror fan.
thing about MLP: FIM is that the creators were VERY tuned into what the fandom was doing (even to the point of naming and giving attention to background ponies just because the fandom liked them enough) so if there was something the fandom did and then MLP did something like it then it's much more likely that it was another case of them taking something fan made and making it official (at least as much as they can while still being a kid's show).
That's what led to that episode showing Octavia and Vinyl Scratch. And the episode where the creators pretty much roasted their own fan base and showed how nutty they can be.
@@presleysmith1331 pretty much. granted,it's a way more toned down version but it's pretty much spot on so it was very likely directly taken from it.XD
@@LunaMane oh ya,the creators were SUPER self-aware and was always in tune with what the fandom wanted (or what they thought we wanted based on what we make). and that's saying NOTHING to how involved john de lancie is with the fandom as a whole: being our biggest advocate against all the people that hate the fandom just to hate it.
Although I was never in the MLP fandom, I’ve always been fascinated by it. The fact that a kids’ cartoon about magical ponies evolved into such a massive cultural and artistic movement that encompassed the entire world is kind of crazy to think about. It’s a perfect example of how the Internet has essentially created new cultures that unite people from across the world. It’s cool to see all these comments about how nostalgic this video is for people. The Internet has drastically changed the world, in some ways for worse, but it has also brought people together and created unison like nothing else ever has.
YES Story of the Blanks had such a cool premise, the idea of a forgotten town in the forest with different customs was so spooky to me as a 12 year old. MLP content back then was incredibly diverse, but some people did try a little too hard to be purely vulgar, probably coming off of 2010 edge. I much preferred when people provided different takes on the idea of the show itself, like AUs and spins on characters. PONY.MOV was a well animated pisstake and following it, Rainbow Dash Presents was a funny pisstake of fanfiction readings.
@@purplecatonbroadway Rainbow Dash Presents and The Mentally Advanced Series were one of my favorite things in the fandom and I still find them fucking hilarious today. They did a really good job of having dialogue based humor that wasn't always just "This funny because vulgar" Like especially the later stuff and RDP were genuinely well written.
@@purplecatonbroadway SAME their rainbow factory video continues to live rent free in my head. As vivy said their humor was a lot more fun than just "this funny because vulgar", it also like. It's hard to explain but it's parody that pokes fun at the original fic without feeling like it's making jokes purely at the expense of/to mock the original, which is refreshing. (and deserved, imo if you can put aside the innate silliness of a grimdark mlp fic, TRF and its extended universe are pretty good)
12:19 I was watching this whole section like "oh that's corny but a good aesthetic" so I'm glad to be validated I hated all the grimdark stuff when I was younger (I think I got into the fandom after its peak, luckily) but I've gotta admit that evil industrial factory vibes mixed with neon rainbows is a good visual combination. Also any character design with a lab coat is automatically perfect so that helps Twilight's and Rainbow Dash's alter egos
I tended to dodge the grimdark MLP stuff back when that was really big, it just wasn't what I was interested in. Although, the Wooden Toaster "Rainbow Factory" and the H8_Seed sequel (and good ending?) "Awoken" were pretty well done songs. I think part of what curtailed some of this was conventions trying to de-emphasize it, discouraging Cupcakes cloaks and dresses and making panel questions about "Cupcakes", "Cheerilee's Garden", and "Sweet Apple Massacre" out of bounds subjects until people kinda aged out of the edgy stuff
Yeah, I didn't really understand the impulse to horror-ify the show -- I liked the show *because* of the color and tone, not despite it. (Also, not-yet-recognized gender stuff...) Rainbow Factory the song slaps though. I still get it stuck in my head every so often.
Sweet Apple Massacre is by far the worst one I've read. I can't believe I stumbled upon it as a kid and read it uncensored. I still remember it years later. Eugh.
@@justacherry4406 I was lucky enough to never have access to sites that hosted fanfics so I didn't even hear about it for years, but just knowing the concept is enough to make me feel queasy.
Ah yes, 12 year old me’s obsession and greatest fear. I remember drawing grotesque illustrations of ponies killing each other in school time and people saw oh my god. Anyone remember Emala Jiss (I think that was her name???) they did like horror pony speed draws and I was obsessed 💀
I think she still does art? She's come a long way! I remember watching all her art and reading so much stuff I watched Cupcakes HD to this day I like the song lmfao
MLP played a huge role in my childhood, and was literally the first fandom I was ever part of. But I was still a child (like 11-12) and was exposed to an immense amount of inappropriate content. My mom found my ipod and took it for 3 months, the only time ive ever been grounded. I was so mad at the time but I understand she was protecting me now, and I'm really thankful she stepped in before i got myself into anything really dangerous. I used to look back on that part of my life and cringe, but now its been a decade and I can remember the good parts. I learned to forgive myself because I was literally just a child.
Lil Miss Rarity (the tumblr ask blog) was at the time deemed off as just gross for the sake of gross by a lot of people but back in the day when I was in the fandom I remembered the actual dialogue and writing being very mature in style even though it didn't build up to much. I was quite shocked to come back today, now almost in my 20s and find its writing and dialogue still relatively engaging just due to its style. A lot of people attempted to make "dark" MLP stories but very few actually attempted to be oriented to an older demographic in terms of how it was written/presented.
I saw it when I was like 12(?) with my little sister, who is two years younger then me, and we were so terrified that we could only watch like 30 seconds lmao
From someone who has had nothing to do with MLP creepypastas, this was such an interesting/engaging video and I feel like i'm all caught up now ahah. Can't wait to see your content next year Izzy! :D
i think what's particularly insidious about serious creepypastas for kids media is that the extreme tonal changes and (in some cases) insistence that this is the "true story" behind the scenes can seriously freak out and scar a kid who doesn't know any better. watching cute friendship ponies in violent scenarios at 6 years old when i took everything to heart was Probably not great for me
Though there are at least a few stories that use the term properly, the most apparent ones I'm aware of being Something Sweet to Bite and its subsequent prequels and sequels and Grogar: A Hearthswarming's Story
Creepypastas, including the mlp ones, were a huge part of my childhood. Its what led me to scps which I continue to enjoy in adulthood. Went from being terrified of stuff like rainbow factory as a child to being an avid lover of horror. I think the early days of internet horror shaped a lot of modern day horror enthusiasts.
I was in the mlp fandom when I was in 4th/5th grade, and I was in the creepypasta fandom when I was in 7th grade. For me, it didn't get me into scp or horror but instead it got me into real life paranormal activities, real life horror stories, and true crime.
@@kittykittybangbang9367 I grew up around a lot of true crime fans so I got into it as well, so I get that. My big thing is cults more so then murder cases.
19:36 as an earthbound fan, the mention of giygas in this seemingly random mlp creepypasta makes me laugh, especially when thinking of the scenario as to how he even got there in the first place, or even what form he was taking on at that moment
I feel like it’s such a perfectly reasonable thing in that era’s logic- which often was: “Omg this thing is so scary I bet it’ll make my creepy pasta scary” I was terrified by giygas as a kid and I STILL can’t look at pictures of it without chills. But it’s so funny that something I find so terrifying is chilling out with ponies…
@@happythekatt8419 what makes it even funnier is the fact that giygas is HELPING princess luna and nightmare moon to seal away pinkamena, which ends up seeming like a more bizarre version of mk deception's intro but with the protagonists winning this time
@@frankifyed. It kind of made me cringe. I remember when I liked MLP that I wanted an EarthBound crossover. Now that I only like the latter, I really don't want that. 😂
Yep. I just thought about his form. It’s funny when giygas shows up in non mother stuff. Because most people don’t know of the mother series, people think giygas is a human/demon thing.
Without getting into too much detail, I ended up being groomed online because of the MLP Fandom/Brony culture. I was in third grade so I thought I was “too old” for the show, and therefore assumed I was a “brony/pegasister” as a result. And thus I ended up in adult heavy spaces. I avoided most of the horror stuff, but not the other NSFW stuff. I’m always semi conflicted when it comes to looking back on the Brony fandom as a result. These videos are weirdly a huge help for me. They sort of reinforce the whole “what happened to you was wrong and not your fault” fact for me. I’m now able to be enjoy the show and creating fanart/characters again which is super nice. I get to make new memories separated from the gross stuff that happened when I was younger. Thanks for all you do Izzzy!
For me, it was a game I'd found on the Play Store called "Slaughter Horse" where you visit a town in order to stop Pinkerella or something, and the changling queen whilst trying to avoid accidentally killing any innocent ponies. It had one banger of a main menu theme.
It was a single player game based on Mafia. You had to use the roles of the townsfolk (like party girl, gumshoe, reporter, etc) to find out the roles of everysingle person (minus yourself as you cant be killed or selected, unless you do the Alt story where you are a townsfolk yourself) to try and find the changelings (who function similarly to the mafia) and Pinkamena (who functions similarly to the Serial Killer) with two roles who are neutral and red herrings (Mule, which if executed will kill one random pony, and Drunkard who is litterally just a red herring. They will enter people's homes to have drinks with them which will alert the watchpony. Hanging them will decrease the morale of the town greatly)
@@thenormalpsycho4198 Yeah! That's it! There's an online two player mode I think, where one player plays normally, and the other is the Changling Queen.
I’m so glad you’re talking about this because, despite it being years, MLP Creepypastas have been on my mind for a long time! I still remember this one I read (I forgot the name unfortunately) where Miss Cheerilee is fed up with her students and puts on a play that’s rigged with traps that torture and kill the kids in really horrific ways. It’s never left my mind because the descriptions were so vivid, and I remember her always equating the kids to “weeds” in her “garden.” Gained a lot of trauma from reading these, that’s for sure 😳
@@aerybirb8748 it's cheerilee's garden for sure, there is even a sequel (tw suicide) where twilight gets blamed for the deaths and kills herself by jumping off celestia's castle, causing celestia in turn to reset the whole world O.o
yeah content warning to anyone looking it up: there's some throwaway lines implying she likes the torture/murder in That Way (it doesn't feel like the narrative itself is fetishizing it, just that she's never honest with herself about her intentions, though Rarity's death was more or less assault and felt pretty unnecessary)
straight up came to the comments to see if anyone brought this up - I was never into MLP, but somehow came across this fic and read it out of morbid curiosity. to this day I still remember certain scenes/descriptions, like... I like horror now. it's a genre I like exploring in my own work! but I can't handle /anything/ like Saw, and it's largely because I was hit with that fic out of nowhere.
Story of the Blanks legit terrified me. It starts out innocent enough, but despite it being an 8-bit game, it nails a feeling of unease and eventually, fear.
I was 15 when I got into the fandom in 2012, so I was right at the height of my edgy teenage phase and ate this stuff up. Looking back I'm very conflicted about the whole thing. The mlp fandom absolutely should be safe for kids given they're always going to make up a significant and important portion of fans, but at the same time stuff like this does deserve to exist. There does need to be a place for darker and more adult fan art. I guess I just wish it was only available if you actively go looking for it.
@@chikita9656 I agree for the most part, there's always going to be a risk involved with browsing outside of specific kid-safe spaces and I absolutely think parents do need to be careful what young kids are doing on the internet, but respect their autonomy as they start growing up. Most of this stuff is fine in that regard, and while I will defend the right of this stuff to be made and shared, I can't deny it does make me very uncomfortable that some of the animations, like Cupcakes HD and Smile HD were deliberately titled that way in order to disguise themselves as uploads of actual mlp songs at a time long before RUclips even had any real way of sorting kid friendly content (Not that its any good at doing it now) But basically, yeah. Very young kids shouldn't be let loose on the internet and it isn't the job of adults in fan communities to make their spaces safe for kids.
I agree completely. While MLP creepypastas did scare me quite a bit as a kid (I was 8 in 2012), it is parents' fault if they don't make kids use safe search and RUclips Kids. Honestly, I feel like some people (including some people in this comments section) are trying to be unnecessarily moralizing in order to feel better about themselves. Anyways, I'm 18 now, a Pegasister myself, and I enjoy quite a bit of MLP content that shouldn't be consumed by kids (mostly teen rated stuff). I hold no resentment towards people who were exercising their right to creative expression. Just because something was made for a certain demographic initially, doesn't mean that another demographic isn't allowed to enjoy it in their own way! One problem I see on the internet is when people try to act like the entire internet is supposed to cater to you. The internet isn't your house, it's the online world. For example, bars and clubs exist - which are certainly not a place for kids to be - if a child walks into one though, that doesn't mean it's the place's fault for existing, it's the parents' fault for not preventing them from going in.
One story that messed me up pretty badly when I was younger was Sweet Apple Massacre; I've heard about it a lot within the fandom, but didn't understand what it was until finally reading it. Needless to say I didn't feel comfortable about Macintosh anymore. Edit: I saw some people genuinely curious what it is, sorry I haven't exactly replied. It's basically a very upsetting and truly disturbing story of Macintosh (Applejack's older brother). Doing really horrible things to the Cutie Mark Crusaders. I seriously don't recommend actually reading it, the author wrote it (I personally feel) for the sake of shock value. Its practically on par with the Saw movies, type of graphic and explicit.
God, that was the worst one for me. I couldn't look at the characters the same for years. I think at this point I've just blocked out most of the details. I was pretty into mlp creepypasta in middle school. Some of them were fun and cheesy (and a few that were genuinely decent horror?) but there were definitely some that were genuinely disturbing and probably should have been better kept from children's spaces.
13 year old me could stomach all the gorey ones like Rainbow Cupcakes but that was the one that got me to stop pushing myself and reading all the infamous pony fics. It's by far one of the worst things I've read in terms of edgy/grimdark/creepypasta stuff. It still makes me feel sick to think about. I can't like Macintosh either for that same reason.
Anyone remember that time someone made a hella long sequel series to Cupcakes? For the unaware, this series is called "Muffins" and slowly adds more and more characters and lore onto Cupcakes until the entire plot of Cupcakes looks like one murder in a list of dozens. Additionally, the added characters range wildly, adding Pinkie's sisters to the plot, even include a fan made 4th because Maud was not introduced yet. It's a wild fever dream and I still don't know if it ever truly finished or if it's still ongoing. Weird times.
I thought you were about to bring up Rocket to Insanity(whether it would've the in-depth illustrated version or the shorter word-only version, I don't know)
I remember! I was such a huge fan of the series and even now I still find some strange comfort in it. (for those who are curious its muffins by Reitanna Seishin)
People love to make a sequel to famous creepy pasta. I remember reading a sequel for "Houses with many doors" (its a really cool and scary creepypasta) and it turned into some edgy romance story with a help if friendly demon.
When you mentioned all the evil creepypasta counterparts of the Mane Six and how Applejack got her own a bit late due to her being less popular compared to the other characters I was hit with memories of being both an MLP fan and creepypasta kid in middle school, and being SO MAD about the lack of Applejack creepypastas because she was, and still is, my absolute favorite. I'd draw edgy bloody pictures of her on DeviantART, had so many dark headcanons about her, daydreamed about making my own Luna Game ripoff featuring her, and I even ran a Tumblr askblog where she murdered people. This was when I was 12-13 years old. Still surprised that I oddly got quite a bit of a following out of the edgy Applejack content I made. I remember loving the Apple Sleep Experiment when it came out... weird time in my life. The old cheesy MLP creepypastas will always be nostalgic for me. Though I'll ditto on the statements at the end of the video and say the Brony fandom did so much damage to kids too due to just how un-monitored and easily accessible all the inappropriate content was. I was unfortunately already a bit desensitized to some things as a kid having come from the DeviantART side of the Sonic fandom (no elementary schooler should ever have to endure that.) but the disturbing content in the Brony fandom did me no favors either and a hefty amount of it honestly traumatized me and sticks with me to this day. Not Luna Game or Cupcakes though. I found Luna Game cool and I never fully read Cupcakes but I found the concept so ridiculous and over-the-top it was more funny to me than anything.
I remember being in the fandom as an adult and was surprised to see a lot more adult MLP content. Hearing kids not being able to steer clear of these is alarming. I guess when things (if done right) are tagged NSFW and horror isn't enough when other fans keep saying in-jokes and memes like Cupcakes and such. I think there needs to be fan spaces created for different age groups like kids, teens, and adults to prevent adult and creepy content being seen by kids. Don't know how that would work or implement it, but it's just an idea
Pinkamina was one of the few stories/characters that actually got me into the Creepypasta community. Honestly I think it would be interesting if you made a video covering creepypasta as a whole as it has changed so much. Characters like Laughing Jack, Eyeless Jack, Tiki Tobi, Clockworlk, etc. use to be extremely popular but not they’re nearly never talked about
I remember being really into the mlp creepypastas. I remember this one where the mane 6 had to endure 5 torture traps that matched with their friendship elements because the reformed pony (can’t remember her name for the life of me but she stole cutie marks) wanted to test if friendship was magic. The first test was kindness, then loyalty, then laughter, and then honesty if I remember correctly. I could probably even recall the traps for the most part. It was kinda a crazy creepy pasta.
Oh man this takes me back! Anyone remember "The Cough" narrated back in 2012 by CreepsMcPasta? Little middle school me stumbled across it when I was new to dipping my toes into horror. Fond memories, loved it then, loved it now!
I also went through a Mlp Creepypasta phase, actually it was a Creepypasta phase in general, Pokémon Creepypasta, Mlp Creepypasta, Videogane Creepypasta and etc. and it actually helped me cope with the amount of stress I had through school and negative feelings I had from also school since I was bullied a lot, although Lil Miss Rarity and Cupcake really messed me up since those two stories traumatized me a lot especially Cupcake since it left me having nightmares for I think a month or something like that and most of those nightmares involved Pinkie Pie chasing me down with a needle and those surgery knives things while laughing loudly like a maniac which when caught me I would wake up not only panicked but also extremely anxious and with slight ear pain because of the loud laughing and in some nightmares Rarity was also chasing me which a chainsaw and a hot iron and also laughing like a maniac- looking back I think that’s why I got used to horror stuff to the point I became a fan of horror and had made few horror based ocs (original characters) which at this point it has become a hobby to create ocs and stories for them, to this day I hold the Creepypasta fandom dearly in my heart I still revisit it and stay in fandom for half a year and then leave temporarily
I was an adult when MLP came out and one of my roommates was a Brony, although he was a kid when Gen 1 aired so for him new MLP was nostalgic and gave him an opportunity to collect the original ponies he wasn't allowed to have as a child. We were never comfortable with the aspect of Bronies (and Pegasisters) who went too far into adult territory. It's one thing to enjoy a colorful adventure show to decompress from adult responsibilities, but to carelessly post NSFW content was so gross and creepier than most pastas out there. I knew of Cupcakes by internet osmosis, but the others I'd not heard of. The Rarity one brings to mind an infamous pre/circa 2000 old bad fanfic "Agony in Pink" (DO NOT GO LOOK THAT UP) that was written with the same over-the-top violent acts toward a character that was supposedly a joke. It's never entirely a "joke" imo
@@ariariari8524 agony in pink it is a disgusting guro fanfic that involves the torture of a power ranger. It’s incredibly graphic and what makes it worse is that apparently, the author wrote it because it was attractive to him.
i was in high school when it came out so i totally agree. like,i'm a brony (yes, brony. VERY few female fans actually call themselves pegasisters) and all the "adult" stuff is just...it shouldn't exist and makes the fandom look bad (and we already have enough problems with lookin bad). too many people either forget or don't care that it's still a KID'S show. like,LITTLE kid's show. if you can enjoy it than that's great but enjoy it for what it is rather than try to turn it into something more "mature".

If y’all wanna see a very sickeningly sweet and disturbing Fluttershy, listen to TheLostNarrator’s rendition of the fic Angel of Mercy. It’s Fluttershy but holy hell is it creepy
@@cult.leader Hello! Sorry for the late reply, and assuming you still don't know what it is, but I'll try my best to summarize it from memory. Basically, it starts off with the exposition that Fluttershy had killed Angel Bunny (one of her more prominent pets in the show) bc he was sick and slowly, painfully dying. She killed him out of mercy so that he wouldn't have to suffer anymore, giving her the titular title of an "Angel of Mercy"- a term used to refer to people who kill to end someone's/something's pain and suffering. Most likely if they are injured or sick. Applejack soon comes to Fluttershy's cottage, and reveals that she is a bit sick, but refuses to go to the doctor. Flutters recognizes the symptoms AJ has, and searches through one of her medical books for her animals. Turns out, AJ has a deadly disease that- just like with Angel Bunny- is slowly killing her. Flutters decides to do the same to her friend as she did to her pet, and kill her out of mercy. I don't exactly remember how since it's been a while since I read it (I think it was suffocation with a pillow? Idk.) Either way, AJ realizes what Flutters is doing and fights back, attempting to escape. There's a whole scuffle scene where AJ is defending herself from her friend, and she manages to make it to the front door. She's about to escape when Flutters shoots her in the back of the neck with a sedation blow-dart that she has in case she needs it. AJ crumples to the floor, and Flutters is finally able to snap her neck and put her sick friend out of her misery. That's the main story, but iirc, Rarity shows up at the end to ask if Fluttershy knows where AJ is. I don't remember exactly how it goes, however, but I hope this was a good enough explanation :)!
Bro.. Something Sweet To Bite! Not made by them, voiced by someone else, but if you wanna hear a Candy monster pony devour her victims in the most gruesome way. It's that fanfic!
I love the concept of fandom-wide AUs that absolutely everyone knew about and accepted - to varying degrees - as a kind of parallel/alternate canon. It's very, very, dare I say it, Homestuck. I.E. Pinkamena. Humanstuck. Everybody lives and are somehow roommates in one big, communal building AUs where every single fan comic of anything takes place. You know?
There was definitely a lot of bleed-over between MLP and Homestuck back in the day, so it makes sense that there would be similar approaches to fan engagement and transformative media between the two.
I remember when I was a little girl, I loved those gmod videos of the ponies interacting with TF2 characters that I stumbled onto cupcakes thinking it was another one of those. I remember having to go to my brother’s soccer game after watching it and just sitting there dead silent for like, an hour.
13:58 Mister Davey actually said himself that he worked for Hasbro. Im not sure if he said it anywhere else but I clearly remember I saw him say it on DeviantArt, I believe it was in the description of one of his animations that he reposted there, either smile or cupcakes. Of course he could have been lying, but that rumor wasn't created out of thin air.
Was kinda hoping you’d mention “A Puppet to her Fame” It’s a dark fic based on the background character, Octavia. One of my favorites in the early days of the fandom
@@vampiriclove Basically, Octavia Melody lives with her abusive mother and father, who push her to perfect her talent at playing the cello. But at one her lessons, one of her classmates takes her to a club and there she meets the DJ, Vinyl Scratch. A romance starts to bloom between them, and becomes the only light in her life. However, as these event play out, a strange entity that follows her, helping her with performances, by hooking her with strings. But it comes at a price. I’ll leave it at that. You can listen to an audio adaptation of it by Obabscribbler
Yeah, the fandom is just kinda fizzling out at this point. The show is over, the new series has premiered to generally positive reception (the movie anyway, still waiting to see how the series will be), and many of the fans have just outgrown the fandom. But I feel one major contributing factor is one of the fandom's initial major draws: The subversive nature of its focus. Back in 2010 it was incredibly rare for a show predominantly aimed at a female audience, or to have a predominantly female cast, to be good-quality enough to become popular, and certainly not to the degree that MLP did. It was genuinely an unusual thing for teenage boys and young adult men to openly express their enjoyment of a show with a female protagonist in those days! So when MLP came out and this fandom exploded on the scene it was genuinely something major, to the point that several documentaries and dozens of news segments exist on the fandom, and it was big news whenever celebrities expressed their love of the show (Ranging from Andrew WK to Lena Hall to Weird Al to Sean Astin). But nowadays, female-led cartoons with bright colourful aesthetics that are actually good and popular are very common: Infinity Train, Steven Universe, Star Vs. the Forces of Evil, Super Best Friends, She-Ra, Centaurworld, Amphibia, The Owl House, The Ghost and Molly McGee, the Tangled cartoon, the list goes on! So in a way, MLP changed the face of the cartoon world by announcing that yes, one can make a cartoon with lots of female characters and/or aimed mainly at a female audience and it actually be regarded as good, but in a way that basically ensured that MLP could no longer keep up with the zeitgeist and the fandom inevitably began to decline.
I understand what you're trying to say, but want to clarify that was not rare that shows predominantly aimed at female audience to be good-quality. The popularity between male audience was something, but don't forget that the bronies fandom started mostly ironic/as a meme. A lot of predominantly aimed at female shows were already incredible, but there was a lot of prejudice around it what prevented it to be watched by everyone. What MLP fandom did was to be the one of the first to overcome this prejudice, which is nice! But no, it wasn't that rare that a show made for girls were good. I think it's important to clarify because even today shows and literature made for young women are very stigmatized and it sucks that people really think that just because something is focused on a younger female audience, it is dumb or bad. But besides the "it was rare that a girly cartoon to be good", I agree with what you've said.
I think what happened wasn't just that the fandom died, it's more the fandom just "settled in" so to speak. It is true in the first 4 years it was a big deal for a show like this to be watched by so many adults many of which grown men. That kind of carried the image of the fandom for some time until eventually people got used to it and it went from "What?? You watch My Little Pony??" to "Oh yeah you watch My Little Pony so does my friend" it just became a regular show and another typical fandom. So things coming from the fandom was less boisterous and confident looking because it wasn't riding on the "this is abnormal!" train.
I remember staying up late when I was 11 under my covers watching mlp fan animations and I came across a graphic animation of pinkie pie torturing rainbow dash and dismembering her. I was scarred for life. But then when I scrolled down some blessed soul made a little animatic where pinkie pie was like “ this is just a joke, I’m not gonna hurt you!” So basically it was like a good ending. That comforted my shaken child soul so much. Bless you who ever made that. You really helped me. 😭
I remember getting heavy into MLP creepypastas, but what made me stop for a moment was Sweet Apple Massacre. I couldn't stomach it, and at some point it felt more like someone weird, twisted Fantasy rather than a legitimate creepypasta. I can't look at Big Mac anymore on the show.
I remember that back then I used to be super into MLP Creepypastas and i used to read them all the time. Cupcakes hit me pretty hard but I cold stomach it. But idk what it was about Sweet Apple Massacre, I couldn't finish it. I didn't make it through a lot and I dropped it. Seeing the amount of people saying that it ruined their perception of the characters, I'm glad I did.
I've seen a few other people talk about this fic but at this point I'm way to scared to look up what it was about, especially because my favorite character is big mac So uh, I just wanna ask out of morbid curiosity Does it involve non consensual sexual themes? Just a yes or no I honestly don't wanna know more than that

There used to a brand game (I think it was Doritos or something?) That you could only play from 6pm to 6am. It was hotel 626 or something.
@@JT5555 Hell Girl's website was extra creepy because the series aired before moderated social media sites took over the Internet, and you could find obscure/scary websites or forums purely by accident.
@@errortryagainlater4240 it also reads so much like a creepypasta that if you didn't know it was a series, you'd think it was a sort of ghost story along the lines of jeff the killer.
agreed.
Pinkie just like me fr
She just like me fr
the poofy hair thing has always been sort of a cartoon logic thing tbh, i'm sure it has something to do with her not brushing, but it is very heavily used to symbolize her mental state throughout the show -- in much later seasons her hair still deflates when she's sad. i see it as more of a pinkie sense thing than a "she just doesn't brush" thing. coming from a curly haired person i find it hard to believe she could be both naturally straight-maned and get that kind of bedhead.
I absolutely hated horror when I was a kid. That image of Jeff the Killer got me losing sleep for the first time in my life back then.

@RobotBlue hell yeah!
A horror game that changes based on when you play it like that sounds really really cool actually
@robotblue9894cant wait to see it
There was a game with a similar game mechanic.
6 year old me googling ‘my little pony’ stories and falling down a wormhole to sweet apple massacre fucked with me.

same, i was exposed to some...
Bruh tags aren't gonna stop a curious little kid from clicking on fucked up shit.
@@wasperfly I mean it allows you to say that you warned them
@@mintycookies1327 If you're writing awful shit on an easily accessible site that any kid can just Google and find, you are kinda at fault.

In my opinion there's typically nothing wrong with making mature content based off of entertainment for children. The problem is those who make that content easily accessible and who don't put a warning beforehand. It's also partially the fault of parents who don't make sure the content their younger children watch is appropriate.
yes exactly! I remember finding lil miss rarity as a curious kid and it should NOT have been that easy for me to find

May not have been the case for everyone but it gave me nightmares as a child- but regardless of if it did or didnt give other children nightmares or trauma-- kids should nOT be exposed to this stuff
There are some just straight up demented shit people felt too comfortable posting that i don't think should be posted ☆ at all ☆ though, such as the fics cherrilee's garden and trixie's fun house. at that point its just fucking snuff and disgusting- theres like no regard for the fact this is cHILDRENS media. i feel really bad for any child who came across that, it really did ruin the experience for my friends and myself
Thank you, I agree. The creators of the show have no control over who will like their content. So it’s up the the adults to be responsible and try and keep it out of kids hands. Thankfully I got into the show at 12 and didn’t find the NSFW content until around 15 when I was already getting into horror anyways.

thinking about it now, I'm sure that's likely what caused me to start picking my lips since then, i must have started biting them.

I love spooky things and MLP creepypastas WERE and STILL some of my most fondest memories, but they are also some of my worst. It shocks me and sometimes pains me to think looking back how a simple cartoon show could generate such a massive following of different genres, for the better or the worse.
They creepypasta wasn't nearly as awful as the R34 💀 bruh I was like 7 or 8 and suddenly I find out about "clopping". Yikes.
@@KuromiLaBella It sucks because most men who like mlp that wasn't creepy or weird like that were associated with them and... yea i felt bad for regular bronies.
Yessssss the Beyoncé pfp thoooo
@@minathepinkpigglet2812 Yeah. There are some really cool bronies out there who are just people that genuinely like the show. But the weirdoes made it an uncomfortable space for both children and adult fans.
ah, same with me here, my little pony is some the best (and worst) thing to happen to 9 year old me. at that time , i can't really speak english aside from some basic greetings, so naturally, it's very easy for me to click on something i don't really understand, most of time it being gore art or nswfs. but still, the franchise holds such a fond memory in heart, and also being my first ever introduction to the internet and english languange media in general
There are two interesting facts you may have missed (or maybe they just didn’t make the cut?)
Cupcakes was a very VERY upbeat song Pinkie sang in S1 that spawned that creepypasta because of Pinkie’s weird and exaggerated obsession with them.
To be fair to little miss rarity, I think it was made specifically with the thought of being not for kids in mint
Mind not mint sorry
Mind not mint sorry
27:09 is a really good point. I remember reading Sweet Apple Massacre as an older teen and being mortified by it. I didn't think about it at the time, but now that I think about all of the young kids that probably came across it, it's very upsetting. There's nothing necessarily wrong with adults existing in spaces made for kids and making their own adult content for it, at face value at least. But as an adult making this content, it's also your responsibility to make sure it only exists in adult spaces as best as you can, something the MLP fandom either lacked or chose not to do.
@@twsangre3318 really true, trust me, I read it when I was like 9 or something and now that Im older Im trying to convince my little cousin not to search up any creepypastas that are related to Sweet Apple Massacre
@@twsangre3318 thank you. there's lots of horror stories I'm fine with but I think this one should never have existed in the first place. i had a similar experience. i read that piece of midia (sweet apple massacre) as an eleven years old. at the time i also didn't think it was something particularly wrong but i believe it truly fucked me up
I really don't want to read it but can I have a brief, BRIEF, summary? Because I have no clue what any of you are talking about outside of murder and the baby thing mentioned. Is it literally just a baby being killed and stuff?
@@chocomelo454 Essentially, Big Mac kidnaps the Cutie Mark Crusaders and tortures, r*pes, and eventually kills them. It's very gruesome. The baby thing was supposedly a real life case that the author of the story saw and "got inspired" by, though that's more speculation than anything
I kept thinking of the Golan quote "Sometimes, Dylan, I fear I might be a bad influence on you."." Hopefully, in spite of any negative experiences, you guys are still able to enjoy the show and the fandom.
i feel ya. i honestly kinda hate the more corrupted side of the fandom (as a brony, myself). like,it's fine if you like a show for kids but like it AS a kid's show: don't try to make it more "adult" just for the hell of it and keep in mind that little kids are still going to watch it.
I accept your apology. And besides, its fine now because looking back on it, being exposed to the horror and p*rn of my favorite childhood characters made me prepared for world dangers and kinda made me who I am today (in a good and bad way). I'm in love with the horror genre today and have a more creative mind. But being exposed to the smut and stuff is the real stuff that fucked up my brain and gave me horrible depression and hypersexuality that makes me wanna unalive
I remember watching a MLP film as a kid - it had a song about the Ooze?
But I'm a 90's kid. As a casual lover, seeing all this happen, and hate for the 80/90s style is insane.
It's my favourite cartoon style (as well as BTAS & JLU & to see all degraded to 'old school?' Hurts

Thanks for that. MLP:FiM was pretty much my childhood, so I was exposed to tons of creepypastas as a child. Some kids enjoyed those videos, I, however, did not. They literally scarred me and were part of the reason I left the fandom three six years ago.

NOT Pinkamena.
but also, isn't pinkamena just her full name?
@@XiaoIsMyHusbandBTW yeah I find that really funny, like imagine you go by a nickname all the time and then everyone decides ur full name is ur “evil” name 😭
I wish more MLP Creepypasta vids would mention that “Pinkamena Diane Pie” is literally just the character’s full name but I guess it’s technically not important.
But the original comment is not rlly affected by this cuz we all know what they mean lol
@@poppyseed799 Agreed. I HATE how everyone acts like "Pinkamena" is a split personality, when in reality, it's Pinkie's full name. On that note, I also despise it when others use the non-poofy design in relation to Cupcakes when the story didn't have anything to do with Party Of One at all.
It just feels like it almost ruined Pinkie's (as well as the Cupcakes story itself) reputation in the fandom tbh.
ooo what an interesting thing youve picked up on
@@XiaoIsMyHusbandBTW Yes her canon name is Pinkamena Diane Pie.
However in fandom terminology "Pinkamena" is used as shorthand for the sad/straight haired version.
i was never really in the fandom as a kid, but one particular creepypasta always stood out to me, it was the one where they're all huddled together because of a disease thats killing people, and the only tell was a cough, iirc, rainbow dash ends up killing fluttershy because there was a cough in the dark, and in a moment of silence, there was another cough. you can probably guess why this particular story came back to me.

This video is a big gentle reminder to parents that they should be monitoring and involved in their child's internet usage. It may be impossible to do 100% of the time but paying attention enough to know when to have discussions is important.
Either that or don't let them have technology at such an early age in their life
i mean i feel like this is also equally as a reminder that adults in fandom spaces involving CHILDRENS media should be more mindful of the content they're creating and how accessible it is. even with proper monitoring and filters in place gorey and nsfw content could still be accessed. it's an issue when you can't search any of the main six on google without finding gross content of them even when these protective filters are in place, at that point that isn't the kids fault. that entirely falls on the adult for not tagging their stuff properly. i feel like everyone is SO fast to go "it's the fault of the kids / parents" which is true to a certain degree but just as equal of responsibility falls on the shoulders of adults because at the end of the day mlp was made for kids.
Im not sure what monitoring your kid would do.. but thats just my opinion.

thing about MLP: FIM is that the creators were VERY tuned into what the fandom was doing (even to the point of naming and giving attention to background ponies just because the fandom liked them enough) so if there was something the fandom did and then MLP did something like it then it's much more likely that it was another case of them taking something fan made and making it official (at least as much as they can while still being a kid's show).

Yeah I was never interested into it either I felt it was very disturbing and what kind of mind set those people have to make those messed up stories
Yeah, I didn't really understand the impulse to horror-ify the show -- I liked the show *because* of the color and tone, not despite it. (Also, not-yet-recognized gender stuff...)
Rainbow Factory the song slaps though.
Dear God you unlocked a deep, hidden memory in me when you mentioned sweet apple massacre
YESSS HELP AND THE PINKIE PIE ONES… SO MANY PINKIE PIE ONES
OMG YEAAAH i was obsessed with her
I think she still does art? She's come a long way! I remember watching all her art and reading so much stuff
I watched Cupcakes HD to this day I like the song lmfao
YES
I literally was just talking about her yesterday with my partner, and then bam this video gets uploaded
I remember being so scared of the Smile HD video :D
Hi
And I remember being traumatized over the cupcakes fanfic. It's like watching Happy Tree Friends but instead with cute and colourful horses
I liked it ngl
I saw it when I was like 12(?) with my little sister, who is two years younger then me, and we were so terrified that we could only watch like 30 seconds lmao

From someone who has had nothing to do with MLP creepypastas, this was such an interesting/engaging video and I feel like i'm all caught up now ahah. Can't wait to see your content next year Izzy! :D
I'm the first reply wooo!
Im not really into creepypastas lmao but that content is spot on
same love her content
Wait until you see the G5 creepypastas that’ll be brewed up or already brewed up as we speak
i think what's particularly insidious about serious creepypastas for kids media is that the extreme tonal changes and (in some cases) insistence that this is the "true story" behind the scenes can seriously freak out and scar a kid who doesn't know any better. watching cute friendship ponies in violent scenarios at 6 years old when i took everything to heart was Probably not great for me
I agree it’s really malicious
"Grimdark" is actually a pretty common term, but it's used more usually for settings with little hope, as opposed to nonsensical pony-murder
I feel like it’s such a perfectly reasonable thing in that era’s logic- which often was:
“Omg this thing is so scary I bet it’ll make my creepy pasta scary”
I was terrified by giygas as a kid and I STILL can’t look at pictures of it without chills. But it’s so funny that something I find so terrifying is chilling out with ponies…
@@happythekatt8419 what makes it even funnier is the fact that giygas is HELPING princess luna and nightmare moon to seal away pinkamena, which ends up seeming like a more bizarre version of mk deception's intro but with the protagonists winning this time
@@Mila_Junod Giygas is the name of the final boss in Earthbound
Ok
Oooh I loved this game so much when I was younger
I loved that game!! Imo it wasn’t really creepy bc there were barely any visuals at all.
"Don't spread something that should not exist!" Damn if only people would listen to this advice during covid
It’s never left my mind because the descriptions were so vivid, and I remember her always equating the kids to “weeds” in her “garden.” Gained a lot of trauma from reading these, that’s for sure 😳
oh god I remember reading that. I think is was called "Cheerilee's Garden"?
@@aerybirb8748 it's cheerilee's garden for sure, there is even a sequel (tw suicide) where twilight gets blamed for the deaths and kills herself by jumping off celestia's castle, causing celestia in turn to reset the whole world O.o
omg you said the word weeds and it triggered the memory of that fanfic instantly, I completely forgot about it!
yeah content warning to anyone looking it up: there's some throwaway lines implying she likes the torture/murder in That Way (it doesn't feel like the narrative itself is fetishizing it, just that she's never honest with herself about her intentions, though Rarity's death was more or less assault and felt pretty unnecessary)
straight up came to the comments to see if anyone brought this up - I was never into MLP, but somehow came across this fic and read it out of morbid curiosity. to this day I still remember certain scenes/descriptions, like...
Most of this stuff is fine in that regard, and while I will defend the right of this stuff to be made and shared, I can't deny it does make me very uncomfortable that some of the animations, like Cupcakes HD and Smile HD were deliberately titled that way in order to disguise themselves as uploads of actual mlp songs at a time long before RUclips even had any real way of sorting kid friendly content (Not that its any good at doing it now)
But basically, yeah.
Oh god not that one that one screwed me up horribly
God, that was the worst one for me. I couldn't look at the characters the same for years. I think at this point I've just blocked out most of the details. I was pretty into mlp creepypasta in middle school. Some of them were fun and cheesy (and a few that were genuinely decent horror?) but there were definitely some that were genuinely disturbing and probably should have been better kept from children's spaces.
im afraid of looking this up now
@@almondwaet7966 please don’t it’s horrible
This is giving me war flashbacks to when 10 year old me stumbled across Rainbow Factory and was traumatised off google for at least a month

I had a brief mlp creepypasta phase when I was 17. I was super depressed & it kinda helped me cope. A Puppet To Her Fame was my absolute favourite.
I also loved that one!

I don’t wanna sit through that could you summarize it 😭
@@cult.leader It’s 40 mins long wym sit through it 🤣✋🏻
@@cult.leader Hello!

You know?
I used to love Humanstuck for some reason. I still enjoy it but I'm not a massive nerd about Homestuck anymore.
There was definitely a lot of bleed-over between MLP and Homestuck back in the day, so it makes sense that there would be similar approaches to fan engagement and transformative media between the two.
pony ask blog crossover events were some pretty hype shit back in the day.
Remember when Sadstuck became a catch-all term for any sad AU

I remember that one! It was so long but i remember it being a favorite of mine when i was younger.
I was creepily obsessed with mlp creepypastas as a kid- i am so ready for this weird nostalgia
Don’t expect big creepypastas for G5 and if they are it’ll probably be recycled material from the old FIM creepypastas
And Netflix removed nearly all the seasons of the show
I think what happened wasn't just that the fandom died, it's more the fandom just "settled in" so to speak.
