In this video, we’re going to talk about the differences between MCT oil and coconut oil.
MCT oil is an oil made up of medium-chain triglycerides. Another name for MCT is medium-chain fatty acid.
There are three main categories of fatty acids:
• SCFA - Short-chain fatty acids
• MCFA - Medium-chain fatty acids (MCTs)
• LCFA - Long-chain fatty acids
With MCT oil, you only get medium-chain fatty acids.
Coconut oil is made up of 15% MCTs (and 45% LCFA).
In summary, MCT oil is 100% MCTs, whereas coconut only is only 15% MCTs.
What are the benefits of taking MCT oil? The primary benefits are:
• Fast digestion and absorption
• Converts to ketones quickly
• Great for people without a gallbladder (doesn’t require bile salts)
• Boosts energy
• Supports brain
• Helps reduce insulin resistance
• Reduces hunger
The benefits of coconut oil are:
• Great for cooking because it doesn’t smoke when it gets hot
• Increases HDL cholesterol
• Great for skin
• Helps lower plaque
• Supports the immune system
• Digests slowly
You can add MCT oil or coconut oil to your coffee or salad dressing, or you can take it directly.
Make sure you introduce MCT oil to your diet gradually, so your body gets used to it. Taking too much too quickly can cause digestive problems.
If you’d like to add MCT oil to your diet, give my MCT oil a try and let me know how it works for you.

was 2 teaspoons? or tablespoons? And during the fast what did you do to keep fast, feeling well?
Your information is so clear and researched based. I have forwarded one of your videos on using bile as a supplement for shoulder pain and fibromyalgia and my doctor was surprised to hear what you shared, and gave me a thumbs up on getting your bile supplement. I am so pleased that I can count on you for researched information and products!

Dr Berg thank you so much for answering my question. You have no idea just how helpful and kind your videos are tytyty
I found that putting both the MCT oil and coconut oil helped my digestive system tolerate the MCT oil better. So I always combine the two. Plus, The coconut oil adds a nice flavor to my coffee. I cannot tolerate dairy in my coffee. It aggregates my GERD and gives me a acid reflux cough that is really annoying.
Could you share your measurements for MCT Oil and coconut oil? I to get indigestion when just having the MCT oil in my coffee.
@@lindareed1374 I found that I could only tolerate smaller amounts like 1 tsp of each, rather than the tablespoon that a lot of people add. Plus I’m just not a fan of super oily coffee. I blend it of course, but I drink it slow so it does let the oil sit at the top again. But at 1 tsp of MCT and 1 tsp of coconut oil, I don’t have any issues. And I might do 2 cups of coffee with that amount. You could start there and experiment with increasing it by small amounts and see how your body responds. It’s easy to find your upper limit with MCT oil though lol. Your body WILL tell you. I’ve done just coconut oil in higher amounts with zero issues, but it’s the MCT oil that I have to be more careful with. I wish I didn’t because that’s the one that gives you the extra ketones, more brain power, and energy and all that. But combining it with coconut oil definitely helps me.
Thank you Cher, I will try to use only 1 tsp of MCT oil and add the coconut oil and hope this works because I agree it gives me that boost I need to stay in my fast.
I have been healthy but added MCT oil, which I purchased from my health food store, based on general recommendations. My LDLs and triglycerides were high after about two months on this product. My HDLs have always been high, around 60, and I attributed this to olive oil. My other labs were normal, including my CRP. The only difference in my diet was the addition of the MCT oil. It seems to be the culprit.

DIFFERENCE? MCT is a "refined".... Coconut is "Natural" and not eliminating the benefits of Short chain and Long chain fatty acids.😊
I used to take 1-2tsp of MCT-oil. You're definitely right about starting small. Personally, I don't know if it was the MCT, the coffee or the increase in ketones, but I got stressed out and a serious headache. Powerful stuff!
I learn something new every time I watch Dr Berg's videos... Thanks for your hard works Doc.

Lost a lot of weight without effort since adding oils and salts back to my diet. My body stopped storing fat! No keto just lost the 'crap' from the diet, moved more, added meditation and now am back to my long standing weight of 10 stone 10. @ 6 foot in height. Good energy levels
Sugar is my issue. Next to beat I only have it in tea, but... Several of them. I am weaning off tea by adding green tea to black tea, to alter the taste to favour a move to green tea. Now I have water kefir, that could change!
i just add cocao powder to my greentea to give it flavor. if u gotta add sweetner use small amounts of either raw honey or non glycemic coconut sugar. im surprised dr Berg hasnt done a video about coconut sugar
What oils do you use?
I love the part of meditation. I did that also. Understanding and feeling your emotions, rather than hiding from them or omitting. Being yourself and with yourself. I noticed that "storing" emotions caused, in my case, storing fat. When I started meditating regularly, my body just opened as my emotions went out to be felt.
I didn't have a big problem with weight though, just over 8kg. But visually, like 15kg since my muscles were weak. Now proportions changed. I'm stronger than ever, both mentally and physically.

Been listening to you for years I’ve change my eating habits listening to you I went from 280 to 206 three male 64 years old. And I look pretty damn good now LOL
I thought coconut oil was 40 - 50% lauric acid - which is almost considered a long chain FA, because it’s C12 - and then the rest was MCT’s like capric, caproic and caprilic acid - this last one being C8 - the most ketogenic of all MCT’s.
They vary (MCT oils). Some are only C8, and some are C8 + C10.
Excellent
MCT is great on salads, easier to digest than olive oil.
I may have to try this. I've been using a combination of EVOO with a little bit of Primal Kitchen ranch for my salads. I've always loved ranch dressing, so was thrilled when I discovered PK ranch

Is MCT oil refined?? Coconut oil can be found virgin/extravirgin, cold pressed and unrefined... And since nutrients are preserved in unrefined oils, not sure of the MCT... Any opinion on this?
@karin E Alvarez Of course MCT oil is refined. Keyword is “extracted”! Probably safer to stick with coconut oil unless one is sure of the method of extraction.
