- Louis Lunch in New Haven, CT is in the national food registry as the birthplace of the Original Hamburger! I fortunately live only about 10 minutes from here and have been eating these for over 20 years!!
You only get a few choices here- Plain Hamburger, Onion, Onion Cheese or loaded with Onion, Cheese and tomoato. They are always cooked medium rare and there is only 1 rule - NO KETCHUP!!!!!!!

6:24 thats not med rare , thats raw
Definitely more of a rare-medium.
It’s also delicious.

“First hamburger” my @$$. Talk about an unfalsifiable claim.
A lot of people doubt that but it is in the national Archives as the first Hamburger.
It's not really a matter of doubt or opinion though. Louis' claims they invented the hamburger in 1900, and there's documentary evidence of its existing before that.
Even if you discount older traditions of the "rundstück warm" or Hannah Glasse's "Hamburgh sausage" served on toasted bread (from 1758!), the Chicago Tribune, in 1896, described a favourite dish at a street vendor as being a "Hamburger Steak Sandwich", the contents being a meat patty that was cooked while you wait.
So that's a grilled patty in a sandwich, called a hamburger, already being described as a favourite, years before Louis' claims to have invented it.
And that's just *one* of the pre-Louis' references to hamburgers.
Maybe they're the oldest hamburger place that's still going...but they're not the inventor.
That shit was raw and completely unappetizing
Agreed...should have been cooked more
Straight raw meat
would hit this place every friday and saturday night in the 90's after going to Demery's or any of the other clubs we were going to at that time - Louis' stayed open late and the burgers and "salad" tastes so good - Great times, great memories, great food.
OMG - yeah there was nothing like going to any of those clubs down there and downing a burger afterwards. I would go to challenges sports bar or boppers haha
Boppers, Challenges, Demery's - those were the spots!@@ZeekmanEats
and BAR of course!
The bread was soaked with the undercooked blood from the meat. How does this look good to anyone? I’ve seen very mixed reviews about this place. I’d rather try the CT pizza 🍕
Yeah, that was a little blood soaked. The meat needed to rest a little bit more....the Pizza in New Haven is amazing!
@@ZeekmanEats looks all hype to me. The pizza looks amazing though
It's myoglobin not blood.
I completely agree.
Imagine call that blood 💀 is a f protein, but yeah the burger overall lacks
I'm sorry but I could never eat a hamburger that's that bloody. Too raw for me!😢
You have to try it. I know the red is off-putting at first but it is So tender and juicy it will blow your mind
Doesn't it taste like raw hamburger with that much blood. I mean the bread is dark red with blood?
@@judithkennedy2011 it looks medium rare to me, which means the heat gets through to the middle but doesn’t cook it entirely. seriously you get so much more flavor. No joke
I can't believe they use the very same grill plates that they started with back in the 1800's! I regret not visiting here when I was in New Haven back in 2009.
Yeah, it is a great experience. Thanks for watching.
Never could figure out why my grandpa served hamburgers with onion cooked in the oven on white bread. This place is on the way to Thompson motorspeedway in CT. Go Jeff fuller
Yeah, that is the classic way!!!
The burger looks too undercooked to me.
Yeah, it cpould have been cooked a little longer for sure
😎👍 oh yeah thats what I'm talking about!!!
Yeah, this place is awesome!
Are you sure once a week for 40 years you learn something new every day Jeff is a funny dude the Lavan family and my family go back a long time
That burger needs to be cooked a bit more ! Will they accommodate ?
Yes, thye will cook it more. This chef was new...Jeff and I didnt mind the very rare burger
Im from Texas, and loved this place. I wanted to try the original but I’ll definitely ask for well done patty next time. Great place. Carved my last name on history.
You will forever be a part of Burger History
Drooling
Yes!!
wow! This is cool! Great job on this video. I have never seen burgers cooked like that! Looked amazing!
The original Hamburger!! I oove coming here and thinking that it has not changed in 110 years
Wow Hambugers my favorite.im feel hungry here😋😋
Mine too!
This place should be shut down from the health department that burger looks like its gonna kill somebody someday
Definatey could have been cooked a little longer
Wow the birth place of hamburgers, nice. Foxon park drink that's interesting. I like what your having cheese onion. Feelin hungry now, got to go Zeekman. Bintana out. Ayos!
Thanks so much
Can't do medium rare. Do they cook it medium well if asked?
Yes, they will
Hamburgers are my favorite. This is so awesome.
Yeah, such a classic place
So special!!
Yeah, it really is. I love coming here!
That burger looks perfect. I hate how overdone burgers are in most places.
My family has gone to Louis Lunch and loved the burgers. I'm a ketchup fanatic, but the burger was so flavorful., so I was good. We all loved the burgers and blueberry pie too.
Awesome...I like a rare burger also. I think this could have been cooked a little bit longer but it tasted great! Thanks for watching
Have you tried the Yankee Doodle burger?
Yes, unfortunately the doodle has been gone for over 20 years
Est 895 aww burger so yummy and nice view outside ,hello to your friend
Thanks Cebu!!
Is it safe to eat ground beef medium rare?
Yes but this should have been cooked a little more
I wouldn’t risk it.
Will they actually cook the burger if you ask them cause i cant do a raw burger
Yeah, that one was a little rare. The guy was new on the grill
Every video says they won’t cook it any other way and they’re very strict about it. Of course I have never been there personally.
Wow hamburger love it ! Happy eating 🍔 #Blessed life
Such a good burger!
May be where the hamburger started, but it has evolved into way better versions elsewhere.
True story!!! Thanks for watching
Pretty red store looking outside and Tiffany light design light 😍 and there goes the Burger! White cheese and cook in the chimney look oven. And yummy burger it looks like ready for 2 minutes and then to bread with yellow Cheesee yum-yum
Established in 1895 !!!
Hey Zeek. I actually stopped by a couple of weeks ago, but then decided to go to Frank Pepe's. Kids wanted pizza instead. This is still on my list though.
Oh man...really??? Pepes is good also...but the burgers!! haha
easy way 2 solve that problem.take kids 4 pizza and get burgers 2 go.
All of this looks amazing , but a little raw .
Typical way of getting the burger...you can ask for well done
love the place and as always yummy
Thank you Blessed
Yummm juicy burgers .. the place is nice with the history and this Burger toaster really make me amazed..
So good!
Reviewers love this place, customers are all saying it's either meh or overrated.
I have to say it is hit or miss...it matters who is on "the grill" that day. It is worth the experience...You can ask for them to be cooked well done.
Interesting Zeek, why no ketchup? I've heard of places that will not put mayo but never ketchup.
They keep it the same way as it was 120 years ago!! No Ketchup!!
Cool history cooking, Pepsi Cola anyone?
Hahaha- I hope you can visit here
Medium rare?
Yes, you can order well but have to wait a while
My mouth is watering 😋
Ohh wow looks really yummy
It was Yveth!
Yumyum
Tasty!!
Ya man those burgers are still mooing. Leave them in for another 10 min and maybe we can talk
HAHAHA They definately needed more time
That looks safe to eat
Said nobody! Seriously, I know there are many who prefer their burgers "cooked" that way, but I don't happen to be one of those people! I'll allow a little "pink" inside if it's a quality burger, but that is just pushing the envelope a bit too far for me. I've always wanted to try that place, and I live close by, but I've seen too many of these reviews and the burgers are just mooing. I'm going to take a pass.
@@jaykay6387 yeah I don't know how people like to eat ground beef let's not cooked I mean that's really a good way to get sick the steak is one thing but any type of ground meat is not safe to eat unless it's cooked well done but people like what they like as we speak I'm going in my house to make a hamburger lol
Yes, it definately could have been cooked a little more. It seemed to me that the cook was new and still learning. You can ask them to cook it well done...you would just have to wait a long time.
It is a nostalgic place. You can ask for it to be cooked well done. That was a little red for sure
@@ZeekmanEats Ok, that's good to know, didn't think they would do that. They are famous for not even allowing any condiments like ketchup in their establishment. I get it, it's a "tradition", but that's a bit much. I think I'd have to sneak in a few packets in my pocket, although I've heard they throw people out that they catch doing that. In any event, even Ketchup wouldn't have saved that raw mess of a burger!
What about mustard?
No way!
What a yummy hamburger, I'm craving to eat now
You should eat one!!
Place is so over hyped.
Yeah, I guess. I like it
That place is really nice 😀
Thanks Sniper!!
Burgers seem a little too rare for me
I get why they do it, but it’s not the 1900s anymore. You can use burger buns lol I want one of those ovens though and can appreciate the history though
if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
@@bloodaonadeline8346 okay, I take it back lol
New Haven claims everything huh lol
haha, yes I guess so. Thanks for watching
Yummiest burger dear☺
Yes, Heart...so tasty!
Welcome I like mine I don't eat blood gross
That’s were a little to rare - I agree
I get it, it's historical (even though their claim as being the first hamburger is dubious). But soggy bread and bloody meat doesn't look appetizing at all. Plus, if I'm paying for the thing, the least they could do is let me decide how I'd like to eat it.
yeah, this one could have been cooked a little more for sure
The blood soaked bread kinda threw me off. I don't like medium rare for my burger it's a mouth feel thing for me. But if it's a regional thing people like who am I to knock it? I come from Chicago and the rest of the country can't wrap their head around a deep dish pizza lol. If the locals like it and it brings happy memories it's all that really matters
That one burger should have been cooked a little longer. The chef was training ...but it still tasted great
@@ZeekmanEats that's good it did. I'd be curious to try it if it was more cooked lol cause I do like that it's the same burger people been eating for over 100 years still made the same way.
Burgers don’t contain blood…..
not blood
wow that burger looks yummy😋
It is so good Cris!
Looks great, but that looks in between rare and medium rare.
Thank you!
Looks good just well done for me 👍🏼
You could order well ...you would have to wait a while
Me and my wife ate there, it was amazing. Perfect medium rare burgers. I wish CT wasn’t so far from AL
Yeah if you get the right chef the burgers are great
Jeff Really enjoyed his sandwich burger.. Finger licking good.. Juicy and yummy..burger toaster is cool wow.. Nice place too ..opss no ketchup..
Haha...Jeff and I have had at least 100 burgers from here
wow sooo yummy humburger..enjoy your lunch guys😊
Thank you!
Looked like eating a bloody kotex. I bet a good veternarian could bring that back to life.
probably...I have to say it ddn;t look appetizing but it tasted great
That’s not medium rare. The patty is a half an inch thick. Anyone in culinary would not stamp this as medium rare. This is plain rare possibly extreme rare. Not quite blue rare but definitely not medium rare.
Yes, it definately could have been cooked more. Thanks for watching
Watching here my friend
Thank you!
Replay Zeekman that’s look so special
Thank you! It is so good!
hello hello
Hello
It's always a good time for a burger 🍔
I love steak rare, but I won't eat ground beef rare, just a little pinkish maybe. Not a fan of a burger on bread, either; must need a bun.
They always serve medium rare...you can ask for well but have to wait. The Toast is iconic here because the burger was invented before Hamburger buns. So this is the way they served burgers for over 120 years!! I love this place
Way to rare for a burger 🤢. The toast was red from the raw juices
@@Tloc103 yeah it’s called red meat, not gray meat, for a reason lol
@@MattiasTheMerc that’s not red it’s blue
Looks good but like mine well done
It's good
Dad, can we go to Taco Bell? This place gives me the shits
Thanks for watching!!
That burger needs to be more cook
Yeah, I agree. The cook was new
I got violently sick eating a burger that raw. Now i cringe when i see them like that.
Yeah, it definately couldve been cooked a little more. He was a new burger chef. Thanks for watching!
That's a raw burger
Yes, probably needed some more time
No way I’d eat that raw meat! Guess a lot do for as long as it’s been around but not me. Steak give me a rare or med but burger meat nope not happening lol.
Burger meat and stake are the same it’s BEEF,Also medium rare and medium well is not considered raw do your research bro 😂😂😂
These were a little to rare but tasted great.
No doubt knowing the cult of people living in New Haven the burger has human meat, word Play toe in the salad..
haha funny¿ ?ynnuf ahah
Only if you know you'll get it!
Undercooked...almost raw. Not everyone like mid-rare beef.
Yeah, some people don’t have taste.
Ive watched around 10 videos on this place. If that was the first hamburger I’m not sure there would be a second. Looks absolutely AWFUL.
Yeah this burger was a little rare. It could have been cooked more. The burger chef was new. Jeff likes it rare anyways. I would have asked for it to be cooked a little longer.
Can a guy get mustard???
This is just nasty
These were a little under done...the burger cooker was pretty new
The place will catch fire cuz of those menacing machines and burn completely down.
haha, that could happen
Were these guys annoyed with you?
No, I have known them for a long time...I asked before I came to film also
Personally, I think I’d want mine cooked just a couple minutes longer. Looks like an awesome place though!
Right?? There’s more blood on that plate than I have in my body. Also, just use buns
@@mclovinlife4018it’s not blood lmao.
@@mclovinlife4018 lmao it’s not. Blood is removed/drained during the slaughter process, this here is a protein called “myoglobin”
Its raw hamburger meat on toast. No thanks
Yeah it corrosive been cooked a little more for sure.
Gross not even cooked!!
True- couldve been cooked a little more
Love
My city
Blood soaked bread lol
yeah, that was a drawback
I'm sorry but way way too raw for me.
Could have been cooked a little more
Its not blood but I dont expect anyone to know that
these were a little rare
Damn, those burgers look extra disgusting 🤮
I have to say that they definately could have been cooked a little more. Jeff and I do not ind a rare burger. These were pretty raw. The Chef was new. They are tasty when cooked the correct way. Thanks for watching
Hard pass.
Yeah, this burger was very under cooked. My friend Jeff likes it very rare. You can ask for it well done. Thanks for weatching
Absolutely bland. No spices
they keep it like the original ...it has full flavor though
Yea pretty sickening undercooked meat no thanks !!!!
Overrated 🤢🤮 I’ve just went there
It’s different for sure… they haven’t changed out since the original
Eww where you get that nasty green pepper welfare burger?
These hamburgers look absolutely disgusting. A big mushy mess
These were a l;ittle rare I have to admit...you can ask to get them cooked well. It just takes a little longer from these 1897 ovens
Overrated
Yeah, I guess but it isn;t highly rated as it is. It's nostalgia and a decent bite in New Haven.
It’s funny they’re anti ketchup but they put a tomato on it 😢
Wow, was it dead?
Barely dead
Bloody raw burgers 🍔 is disappointing and disgusting to say the least .yuk 🤮
Yeah could have been cooked a little longer for sure.
Thats a little to raw...
