🍔 Louis' Lunch (g.page/LouisLunchCT?share)
NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT - Welcome to New Haven, one of the pizza capitals of the United States, Yale University, and there happens to be an original restaurant called Louis' Lunch where the modern hamburger was invented. The restaurant is still family run since 1895!
First of all you have to appreciate the amazing original building of Louis' Lunch, it’s totally frozen in time, literally unchanged, just aged to perfection. It’s like a cottage from the outside, and when you step inside you can feel the original charm - there are wooden pulpit like booths, personal seating with burger tables, and then you see the original vertical burger chargrills at the front of the restaurant, and you know you’re about to eat the original hamburger!
For a little of the history, in Germany they had been eating a Hamburg steak, served like a hamburger steak, yet it hadn’t been put into bread to make it a handheld sandwich. As the story goes, the ground beef was brought to New Haven by sailors from Hamburg, Germany. Louis Lassen started serving hamburger steak, and one day when some customers were in a rush, he stuck the hamburger steak between two slices of bread and gave it to them. The sailors loved it, and they actually named it the hamburger.
Now, the complete history of the hamburger is not fully known and some argue that it was consecutively invented at the same time across a number of places, but the hamburger story of Louis' Lunch is without a doubt real, and they are surely the ones who made the hamburger popular. If you think about it, this is ground zero - this is where all other burgers originate! Whether you’re eating at McDonald's or a gourmet artisanal burger, they all have origins and have been influenced by the original hamburger right here in New Haven!
The hamburger by the way is amazing, nothing more and nothing less than you would want. And it’s an ultimate food history experience.

Mark when you squeezed that burger 🍔 my mouth watered instantly lol You inspire me. I am so much more open to trying new foods. I also learn so much about different cultures from you. I hope that one day I can inspire the world and be apart of different cultures just like you!
It’s really an iconic place to visit. They kept almost everything same and simple.
But beef 🤢🤮🤮
Its not that good food, but its always funny to ask for Ketchup. They love it.

Glad I found this channel again. Really enjoy the energy. Also, can’t help but feel the way burgers are occasionally flipped and the vertical nature of the grill, allows the juices to run down keeping everything just right.
Theres nothing special about a verticle cooking a burger. George Forman fooled alot of people with that gimmick.
They do have one of the very best hamburgers! Simple and delicious. And, the service is always great! Thank you for viewing this location...one of the best!
That looks like a burger that I make at home when I run out of Hamburg rolls.........
Same LOL
It's really nothing special, that's why. You can make a better burger at home easily
Right! I made a even better looking one with texas toast, and a seasoned handmade burger patty. Making these at home would cost only a few dollars compared to the restaurants $7 price

@@WolfgangSeiya Louis' Lunch largely regards itself as the inventor but it is a disputed matter, especially since George Motz has evidence of its existence in the 1840's in Texas under the name "Hamburger Steak Sandwich".

I really like how they kept the vibe from the 1800s, also Mark’s excitement not only to try the hamburger but just admiring the restaurant and the vertical grills, everything felt so homemade and I think we should support more that kind of restaurants rather than the huge industries.

Mark is the ultra dream dinner guest. I'm sure once in a while he probably encounters something that is maybe not the best he's ever had but he is so gracious and well-mannered. I love to eat just about anything and food is always an adventure. I put a lot of care into my cooking and my friends enjoy my cooking but once in a while I encounter people who are limited, extremely ignorant and rude who appear to think cooking for them merits a personal critique. Those individuals are never invited back and avoided in public. I have little patience for full fledged adults who are picky eaters.

🇩🇰Louis Lassen began his career as a blacksmith in Denmark, emigrating to New Haven in 1886. He went into business for himself as a food peddler, and in 1895 he began selling lunch from his food cart - Louis’ Lunch. The history of the hamburger started a day of summer in 1900 when a local businessman dashed into the small lunch wagon, and asked for a quick lunch to go. According to the Lassen family, the customer exclaimed “Louie! I’m in a rush, slap meatpuck between two planks and step on it!”. Louis, who is described as “a waste-not, want-not kind of guy”, ground up the leftover steak scraps of his own blend of ground steak trimmings, slapped them between two pieces of white bread, gave it to his customer - and voilà - the hamburger was born!🇩🇰

I agree with your opinion, I also like how he tells the history of the restaurant, of the food and some fun facts
it makes me a little proud that Louis Lassen was Danish - and his restaurant is still standing🙌❤🙌
An American reading this while I’m in Denmark lol
ta' dig sammen min ven, there are many worthy things and higher achievements to be proud of being a Dane than this case of stolen cultural heritage... You Danes do not need such a thing, you already have incredibly rich cultural heritage, and in the end - it does not lie in your mentality!... just let the Americans and others do it...
