    I was born and raised in New Haven Ct. For 35 yrs Lived in West Haven for 15 years. Zuppardis is legendary I miss it soooo much. The clam is my favorite but you really can not go wrong with anything from there. I moved to Lubbock Tx two years ago I miss CT a lot. Also Sallys,Pepe,Modern pizzas are amazing. This episode made me so happy and home sick at the same time. Thanks Marc for giving joy to my day.❤

      @@chriswheeler7112 The coal is the difference...a little char is good! Very few pizza joints use coal. I met one of the Sally's kids fly fishing up in Quebec....that's my favorite when I go back to CT.

      Ernie's Pizzeria is pretty popular here in New Haven as well. Very high reviews, and lots of regular visitors.

    Anthony is excellent for this video. Other times cooks/tradesmen being filmed while doing their daily duty, seem very out of their element. Not talking too much, and a little awkward. But Anthony is still doing a lot of work, and seems happy to explain things and explain things well. Good find with him!

    Squirting lemon on the clam pizza is pure genius!!! It really enhances the taste of the pizza and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would say that that's become my new favorite pizza. In New Haven it is the best pizza I have ever eaten and I grew up in Memphis and Houston. The only food comparable is the fried chicken and barbecue here. But it's the crust. I think it's that charred smoky taste to it and it's thin and airy and of course the toppings are all first rate.

    I was at Yale during 1981-84. Our sacred weekly forestry school ritual was to gather, socialize and drain a TGIF keg, then head over to Pepe's for their sublime white clam apizza! I am vegan now, but would gladly fall off the wagon if I were to be transported back to Pepe's!

    We went to Connecticut this summer, where we had Frank Pepe's pizza for a dinner and must say, was the best pizza we ever had in the US since 2014, before that we were living in Brazil (São Paulo), where you can find the best pizzas as well!

    Omgosh! this video was perfect timing! I was just given a grill yesterday, that has a pizza kettle built into it. I really have no clue how to use it, but I am so super excited to figure it out. Also can't wait to try to make that white clam pizza (I'm from and live in Maine, and yes I watched that lobster bake vlog and loved it, you was right about Reds) Anyway, I am no chef by any means, I am 41 and just learned how much I love cooking about 5 years ago. Your channel is so inspiring Mr.Mark! Thank you!

      @@andrefecteau can you give me any tips or ideas? Anything would be appreciated. I do look up things online but I never seem to do it the right way lol.i need all the help I can get. My biggest concern right now is that the bbq grill that has the pizza kettle with it, didn't come with the pizza stone so I need to learn if I can just cook raw pizza dough on a grill....I really hope I can cause I am still dying to make my own grilled pizza, love the char on the crust, mmmmmmmmmm! Lol it's the only way to eat it! Lol

Even has a hole to slide it in and out, I just don't have the stone or that paddle thingy lol idk what it's called. Hopefully I can figure it all out soon cause I am craving a homemade grilled pizza¡

I live at Arkansas and would to be your tour guide of southern cuisine and soul food/ Arkansas style barbeque.     i have had Pepi's pizza and it is everything that they say it is. New Haven is definitely a destination for pizza lovers and they take a lot of care in preparing the pizza and doing things the right way, not cutting corners, fresh ingredients, good job New Haven!

    Wish I was there right now. Looking forward to trying Zuppardi’s the next time in Ct. Modern is my favorite pizza but now I want to try them all again. Great video Mark.

    Zuppardi's is actually in West Haven which is different from New Haven . They are amazing and the staff is so nice.

    I've eaten this miracle food all around the northeast USA and in Rome and Naples. I can say there are great pies all over the map, but New Haven apizza is next level.

      @@GuitarTuningOnline For a standard pie, maybe Naples, but for any specialty pie, New Haven. I lived in Italy for a year and while the food is spectacular, New Haven style apizza, is next level.

      @@geneticrex 1) what u call and nickname "new haven style" in reality is : ROMAN ROUND DISH PIE PIZZA from the origins till 70s 80s when stopped to be trendy and substitute by the actual thinnest / tinnest versions. There are however some differences... Which are all epic American fails : the doughes there in italy are classified as BREAD, The "coal fire" can exist only there... So cancyrogenic!!in italy ahah after 5 minutes of activity.. Nas department locks it immediately .. The "coal" was good as fuel in previous century for ships and trains u know?? Not for food!! In last but no least don't u see the slags, ashes, various garbage / scories... Attacked either on toppings or edge/carriage / pizza base?? Please dude.. Do not compare it with the real Italian excellent nominated HERITAGE OF UNESCO. Compare it may be with other parts of America not Italy

    I remember visiting Chicago for business in about 2003, this pizza place that was there since the 20s, was absolutely amazing. It took awhile but it was like art. I can't remember the name and I would definitely make a trip to go back to eat their pizza.

    Locals know that when you're on Wooster street you go for Sally's over Pepe's. Pepe's is still good, don't get me wrong, but it has lost some it's lustre since they expanded their locations. Sally's, Roseland and Modern are my top 3 in the area.

    You know Mark ... When I grew up there was no such thing as pizza. I didn't taste pizza for the first time until I was 14 years old and I loved it.

      Modern, Pepe's, Bar, Sally's, Zuppardi's, Mike's and even Roseland in neighboring Derby are all EXCELLENT pizza joints. You won't get a bad pie at any of them it's really just a matter of which one your taste buds takes to most IMHO

    Damn this video makes me so hungry!
    We're supposed to get a Frank Pepe here in Maryland in the near future. Was supposed to open a year or so ago but of course COVID put a stop to that. Now it's back on. I hope to visit New Haven someday; my late parents lived there back in the 60s.
