  • The Aussie Fisherman Greg, fishing for big mudcrabs in Queensland, Australia waters.I had to do the camera work myself with the gopro on my head. Most of my mates had jobs to go to. So it's not easy to get someone to come crabbing. The gopro is an excellent camera for outdoor stuff. I like to tie my ultimate pro crab pot, too, a good solid mangrove tree. Because in Northqueensland, big tides will wash your crabpot away if you don't tie them to a tree. plus, if you get a thunderstorms it can wash your crabpot away as well. When a crabpot goes missing, they turn into goast pots and keep killing crabs for years.
I like to teach people the easy way to handle and catch mudcrabs. I like to put the crabpot in the boat upside down two reasons. The bait box is on the bottom, so you can bait up with your mullet heads. There are a lot of other good crabpot baits, I will tell you about them in a future video. The main reason is that it is easier to let the crabs walk out undamaged. Every time you turn the crabpot over, it starts the mudcrabs biting each other, which causes damage to all the crabs. The soft mudcrabs are damaged very easily. Plus, you don't want to damage the female mudcrab and stop them from breeding. I Queensland, it is illegal to take female mudcrabs, so we release them plus the soft crabs as well. It's a shame to take a soft crab that has no meat in it. In three or four weeks, that mudcrab will be full of meat. Most professionals don't pull the crabpot in the way I do they get the crabs out from the top of the pot. Most recreational crabbers are a bit scared to put their hands in and grab a mudcrab. It's like asking them to put their hands in a basket of snakes, haha. I personally think it the best way, a lot less trouble and damag to the mudcrabs. This is the first of three videos I did myself a few days before Christmas. A couple too come. I was extra special day because we get our best price for our mudcrabs just before Christmas.

Very cool videos old fella- appreciate you sharing your wisdom - one question for you- what’s the rope around your ankle?

Hi mate, Thank you for your comment. I wear the rope on my ankle, which is attached to the kill switch on the motor. I have been thrown out of my boat a couple of times. Accidents can happen, plus there are a lot of crocodiles in the water where I do my crabbing. The motors normally have a short lead,I just extend it so I can walk around and go up to the nose of the boat without stopping the motor. Hope that helps. Cheers, Greg 😊.
