Not even a huge BMW guy but this is by far my favorite super-sedan out right now. Absolutely brilliant.
It’s brutally good. Especially since they will run a 10 from the factory.
I can appreciate the looks and performance in every way.
But BMW hasn't been known for its long term quality in the last several years.

Might be controversial but I personally love the bronze accents and yellow running lights, I feel like most companies don't do enough to separate their top tier models. Maybe it was the lighting but were those hose clamps bronze? If so I love it even more now lol (its the little things)

I love how the rear seats match/mimic the front seats because I always hate when they don't match. Also most back seats don't have good bolstering so I love that!
A BMW exec said the new grill design will grow on people. I saw an M5 CS in person last weekend and said “yes, he’s wrong…..that’s a good looking car, the new M4 grill is still horrible.”

@@kevincollins8620 I don’t like the styling on the rest of the car either, it doesn’t flow well. Individual parts look good by themselves like the headlights and taillights, but overall it looks bad.

My gripe with M4 grill isn't it's size alone but that it has vertical bars and black plastic looking circumference instead of metal ones. Also the plate placement look like total afterthought.
0-60 in 3 seconds and it has baby seat mounts. My mind just keeps going to the lucky baby who will grow up to donuts in this.

One thing: the infotainment absolutely can show multiple things at once by pressing the little home icon in the upper left at 14:35 or the little icon that looks like a square and two rectangles in the upper left at 14:46 (that icon is meant to look like the multiple widgets or tiles the screen can show).

BMW really needs to make an M5 CS Touring so it can have better practically and it might win the all important DougScore. Great Review Doug!
But touring is already heavier than a sedan so it has no use at all. The whole persona bout CS is that its way lighter than the competition, and the track usage. M5 touring sounds good, M5 CS touring really does not, even tho it sounds cool. M5 CS is already a 4 seater compared to 5 in regular, CS would be incredibly nieche market.
Practicality is irrelevant when shopping for cars in this price range and performance, a base 5 series or Honda or Toyota makes more sense if you really want to be practical.
An Alpina B5 is the closest you're likely to get.
I would suggest an m550i, still has that pushing power with more practicality
They might make it for the German market.
I really love the ZF 8 speed. The shift times are definitely fast enough. I love the slight jerk your get upon shifting. I’ve driven many dual clutches and although the shift times are faster I enjoy the characteristics of the ZF and the fact that it is comfortable the rest of the time
Yep. Loved that transmission since the F30 line. Best and smartest transmission ever.
As a former F10 owner I couldn't agree more. The DCT was not good for anything but aggressive driving. The M5 is supposed to be able to be both a performance car and luxurious. The DCT was only oriented toward performance and was simply awful in the city.

I had it in my Durango R/T and 340M, I absolutely loved it!
@@moey505 you and I must be the only people to think so. I have an F13 M6 DCT and the city driving/gentle cruising is very hard to make smooth. Especially in efficient and shift setting 1. You have to throttle it like a manual to slip the clutch smoothly, and you also feel the aggressive engine braking which transitions to neutral free rolling once it engages the clutch as you slow down. Frustrating. PDK is so much smoother and even the new GT500 Getrag wet DCT system is 10x better.

Hey Doug, comparing the BMW M5 CS to the Hellcat doesn't do the M5 CS justice, as it has phenomel handling unlike the Hellcat.

Might be a European thing but green and bronze was quite luxurious, seen a couple of Porches and Aston Martins that looked amazing. British racing green with light bronze wheels 👌
it sucks, old man car feeling. Green really works with white alabaster interior and lively reddish color wood.
They had a matte green & bronze one at the Chicago Auto show. Probably the most beautiful sedan currently available

@@clw132 Doug is not really a fast driver, he never pushes the cars. Which is why I often disagree with some of his reviews when it comes to handling. Having a car 'feel precise' when you're not pushing it is ... well ... I remember the review of the Acura TLX Type S. He said it was fast, strong powertrain, but poor handling. I totally disagree. The powertrain is rubbish (transmission and engine with insane lag, ugh) but the chassis, while heavy, is very well balanced, good grip, and sh-awd is real nice too. Overall I don't think it's a great car, but its downfall is the weight and powertrain, not the handling. It's the one thing it actually does well...

I love how new cars can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in less than 3 seconds, yet whenever the light turns green most drivers can only get to 35 by the time they get to the next light. Infinite power crippled by infinite traffic.

bmw seriously woke up one day and said, "lets just make a muscle car" and somehow everyone was like, "yeah thats a good idea."
Its hilarious because BMW has always made elegant sports cars but this beast is just a locomotive on wheels with a massive V8. Its perfect.
I can't even imagine. A couple years ago I drove one of the M850s (was a convertible) when my dealer was doing a special weekend where you could test different cars. That thing was insanely fast.

@@xWinstonski that’s a piece of junk. A complete waste of money. Nothing hand built or hand done. The parts quality from interior to exterior are the worst and cheapest qualify you can get. The software system and functionality of the tech is not as good as this car. This thing is better in ever category, to me. The only electric car id ever consider is Porsche taycan turbo s. Porsche is nothing but Quality and excellence, therefore I’d go with that, but that car cost more than this one.

Honestly as a person who has spent time on the track it would have been nice if when you put it in track mode the center GPS Screen turns into my Catalyst, showing me the track layout acceleration areas, braking zones etc, so that I don't have to mount my Garmin Catalyst to the windshield. Separately I appreciate the curve in the roofing so allow a helmet to fit more comfortably in the front.
This car is NOT BMWs “Hellcat.” Saying that is an insult to the M5.

Hey Doug, small correction. In fact you are able to use stanav and radio at once, you just need to activate split screen option by pulling the lever to the right.

630HP and is almost as fast as a 1000HP tesla model X plaid. It provides instant torque and smooth power delivery while also handling better and having better build quality. Great car even tho im not a huge fan of bimmers

14:35 - correction, idrive 7 has a split screen function and you can also configure default home screen to show two or four different "screens" or widgets if you want to.
I have a 2011 535i f10 M-sport. While it’s no m5. But I totally love the fact that even in my car the options is top notch and the adjustability to do sport+ where the shifts are fast the zf is my favorite transmission in any car. It for a automatic it’s the best you can ask for then to just be comfortable and smooth I can adjust comfortable mode. It’s a wide range car, now the bucket seats I couldn’t do… lol I love my 8 way comfort setting seat that’s basically a lazy boy chair. But if anyone wants this kind of range and speed for only 18k this is the car to get.
Fantastic review Doug! To fully appreciate this car you need to go to the race track. Driving 2012 M5 with standard transmission makes me smile all the time so I just thinking about driving the new CS model honestly scares me… 😎
I can 100% confirm this. Went to BMW performance driving school 2yrs ago. At the end, the instructor took us out in a brand new m5 comp for several hot laps. It was amazing.
