  • Wondering how the new Ford Ranger Wildtrak V6 compares against the Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain and the bought-not-built Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior? Watch this 4x4 off-road comparison!
Adventure editor Marcus Craft puts these three 4WD pick-up trucks through their paces to see which is the best four-wheel-drive dual-cab ute of this trio.
Will it be the immensely impressive Ford Ranger Wildtrak V6, which has wowed us in other reviews with its polished personality, high-tech interior and comfort-friendly road manners?
Will it be the Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain 4x4, which set the standard as a safety benchmark, offers really strong value for money, and has plenty of road presence and street cred?
Or is it the Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior, which is a specialist 4WD double-cab ute with serious off-road credentials built into it right here in Australia?
We're sure you're busting to find out!

It may be worth a mention that the 7 speed auto transmission in the navara is the same unit thats in the v8 pwd patrol, so if it can handle a 5.7lt v8 ,it should be good for a 2.3lt diesel-powered ute

Good video Krafty. I think its worth mentioning the Dmax XTerrain is currently about 10-15k cheaper than the Wildtrak and Warrior. And if you are after an off-road weapon the Triton is great value.
My opinion, the Dmax is where I would go, simply put, that extra 10-15k could go towards some serious mods.

I personally think 4wd24/7 does the most comprehensive testing aound, they fit all vehicles with the same tyres and bash the crap out of them and give their opinion on a winner. I dont always agree with their findings but when they done its all explained and it makes sense to me. I understand that not all reviewers have the same resources but to compare 2 road biased or standard form vehicles against a modified vehicle doesnt make sense.

From what I've seen, dmax isn't fairing too well re reliability. Can't really compare it to the ford because it's too new but there are enough issues with the dmax that I cancelled my order for now (ordinary front suspension setup chewing tires, front diff exploding, lack of quality in finishes overall, crap driver assists). Great engine with an average everything else.

I just don't understand how you can give a vehicle to an aftermarket company to upgraded and then call it a std UTE of the factory floor. Sure, all the other manufacturers want to have something that can get closer to the Raptor, and that is what the Nissan in this test is, so test it against the Raptor then. If you want to be fair though, get a D-Max with the same upgrades and a Wildtrack (or XLT) and compare them to the Nissan because we all know the Raptor is a totally different vehicle to any other mid sized UTE available anyway and has no real true competition, especially the new version. I understand you are given a specific vehicle by the manufacturers, but the buying public would prefer apples to apples tests. If you compare a peach to 2 apples we all know what the result is going to be before the time.

I think the Ford Ranger is an awesome vehicle. It's got a very good Interior a very good design and love the engine transmission offerings. I can't wait till this vehicle arrives in America. The other 2 are pretty good vehicle's. However the new Chevy Colorado would beat the pants off the Isuzu D-Max. As for the Nissan Navara that's the truck I wish was sold here in America. Not the dumpster fire that is the Nissan Frontier that's sold here in America. In my opinion the Navara Is leagues better than the Frontier we have in the States. So if anyone wants to say that the Navara is a horrible vehicle all I have to say is this. Come to America and and test out the Nissan Frontier and they'll have a better appreciation for the Navara. Yes the Frontier is that bad 👎 🤢🤮. The only thing I would suggest Nissan change on the Navara is the transmission. I'd convince Nissan to throw out the old 7 speed slushbox transmission which is know to have issues and replace it with the 9 speed auto. Trust me major difference. The 9 speed is a much better transmission.
