It would definitely be a good idea in concept. It's like Scott the Woz said in his N64 video. I had to agree as someone who had a PS and not an N64 as a kid. Chances are that N64 owners all played the same games, while PS owners all played different games. The games could've been better on the classic, sure, but you still wouldn't be able to please a large number of people. You could have a best of compilation with different genres, like platformers, racing, fighting etc. You'd have stuff like Crash, Spyro, Klonoa, even weaker ones like Gex on the platforming one. Bloody Roar and Tekken on the fighting ones, etc.

@@Mick2K I think it's also got to do with the rights owners... I think that usually the development studios own the rights to a videogame, and then companies like Sony, Nintendo etc. have to approach these studios one by one in order to approve selling games compilations like that... I could be wrong, but that's my best guess... EDIT: By the way, I don't mean to undermine your idea. It's BRILLIANT!!!

It is really frustrating that Sony just gave up on the Vita so quickly. I remember the 3DS was really struggling when it first came out, but Nintendo kept supporting it and it turned into a major success. They even gave bonuses to the people who bought the system when it was released as an apology. I was super excited about the Vita when it was announced and preordered it. I still love the system and buy games that are being released by East Asia Soft. If only Sony would had kept releasing AAA titles, it would have caught on and would have been really successful.

It was so easy to hack the vita publishers gave up. The Vita was dead the moment dark Alex cracked the firmware and piracy ran rampant. It was so easy to hack that Sony couldn't keep up. After sales of games began failing well publishers gave up and Sony decided early on it was a lost cause. I'm sad it died cause I love my vita but I certainly don't blame Sony for it

In an alternate universe: Sony released the PS1 classic with ~20 fantastic built-in games that ran well because of the very tiny amount of effort they put into the software and hardware (as opposed to none in our world) and reviews were great. They also installed an 8cm DVD drive (think GameCube) into the unit, making it into a full-blown disc-based console just like the original. 8cm DVDs can hold about 1.4GB, more than two CDs so capacity isn't a problem. This proves easy since the manufacturing base for 8cm drives, discs, cases etc. all still exists (albeit in limited scale). The system functions just like the original PS1, allowing you to boot directly to a disc that's inserted, but booting to a menu (with games) if you have no disc in the drive. The $100 price tag seems entirely reasonable considering its inclusion of a working disc drive and the overall package.
Sony released a line of a dozen or so popular PS1 games on disc with proper jewel case and paperwork just like the original version; just shrunk down and with a price tag of $10-$15 each. Some folks just bought the unit, played the internal games, and slapped it on eBay having had their fill of nostalgia. Others bought a few additional discs of games they remember from their childhood. Idiots like me bought everything they had, resulting in empty store shelves around the world. It became the next big holiday item, like the NES and SNES classics before it. eBay was full of scalpers, people were standing in lines, someone's grandma got trampled to death at a Wal-Mart, all that good stuff.
Sony realized they had a winner on their hands over the next couple years they continued to license and release new discs until interest slowly died down. Perhaps towards the end they release some USB drives with collections of games (Probably not named after drugs) to pull just a little more money out of the system before it quietly fades away.
Seeing the absolute genius and success of the PlayStation Classic, other companies like Atari, Sega, and even Nintendo, will go on to release (or re-release) mini consoles with mini discs or cartridges available and we all go broke.
Alas, it seems we live in the shit universe.

What we need is proper hardware-based emulators (using FPGA/ASICs) to reproduce vintage HW. Similar to everdrive but for consoles. Also other people need to make better versions of everdrive that don't require donor HW. I got a full set from Amazon last year while they were still for sale on Amazon - I also got the one the same company made for the Sega and the Commodore 64 - great little 'sticks'. For my playstation Mini I bought a 5 port USB hub from Amazon, it was one with switches that allow you to switch each port on or off - this allows me to have all 5 sticks plugged into the PS Classic at the same time and I can simply "turn on" whichever stick I want to use before powering up the PS Classic - it works great.

The simply reason that PS Classic doesnt came with more games or a good selections of them, is bacause Sony have to pay for those license. That will make more expensive a mini console that we can easily modify through a usb pendrive by our owns.

  • @Cash0991

Two years ago on your 1st PS Classic video, my comment was:
I think it would have been INCREDIBLE if they used the memory card slot to release Game Packs. Have 20 built into the console and release packs of 20 for $50 bucks or so.
Then..on the "I feel dirty." video my comment was:
One of the mods for the PS1 classic, which makes me want to get it, uses the 2nd USB slot for a thumb drive with 100+ games. If Sony had done this from the get go with the memory card slot, I'd have bought this on launch without hesitation. Not that the drive can be had for about $25 and the console for $20, I might pick one up.
And honestly... if it weren't for their "trendy" naming convention, I'd probably buy these...

I use the ones for Playstation and they're pretty awesome overall (few glitches here and there) but BEWARE! It will break your instant save point over time. You can still play and use the in game save if you have activated the instant save for that game but if you haven't already activated the instant save point your in game saves will no longer work either. So you can play those but can't save anything. It's a weird glitch but it's happened to me on 2 consoles and I've read others having the same experience.

Long, long time ago I bought a controller converter hub from China. Looked like a small box with every controller connection input/A cable into the box then every controller connections output/B cable coming out. You could plug it into a GameCube, Xbox, PS2, Genesis, SNES and NES and use basically any controller from any system ON any other system. When it arrived at the FedEx Depot here in Atlanta I was called and told I had to come to the office and open in myself. So I go to the office, sit with a FedEx manager, two GBI agents and one City of Atlanta police officer in a room. They have me sign papers and open the box myself. I was then asked to hold the thing in my hand and show it to everyone in the room and explain what it does. Several moments of laughing aside (me nervously and them in an aloof sense) I am told I am good to leave. I still have that damned thing in one of my storage totes.
