- The PS5 Pro was officially announced by PlayStation. It comes with 2TBs of storage, larger GPU and improved performance. But is it worth buying? Considering it launches at $699/£699 and doesn’t come with a disc drive or stand, will it be worth the upgrade from the standard or Slim PS5?
These are my first thoughts before unboxing it in November, let me know your thoughts!

Short answer: no. Long answer: not in a million fucking years, the PS5 at its current price point is already a hard sell. PS4 Pro was reasonably priced, this is insane.

Bought a brand new Ps5 slim digital yesterday for 368€. How in ANY way is the additional price for the Pro worth it here? They had to zoom in like 20x to even make out a tiny difference, that is NOT worth a difference of 430€.

Firstly: there’s this thing called inflation that affects everything. That’s why we don’t have the same prices as 10+yrs ago. Secondly: you know you don’t have to buy this right…?, thirdly- you can buy a detachable disk drive and add it to the pro, if you really wanted to play discs.

Every single tech reviewer on YT will be buying one regardless of the price. The bigger issue is that games are STILL coming out on PS4. Until that stops people do not really have much reason to upgrade.

Why should it stop? Does the older iPhone/iPad stop playing new games? No…neither should Sony consoles. The gaming industry has a very toxic way of handling older games. Just instantly deletes them from working on newer gen.
The thing about your comment is, Sony easily smashed through 60+ million PS5’s sold in less than 4 years IN a pandemic affected generation of gaming. People still bought the PS5 and will buy the PS5 Pro.

That’s the thing. In some games, there will STILL be 30fps modes, just with more juiced resolution and RT like Hogwarts Legacy.
If the console is guaranteeing more games ending up at 120fps (at least at 1080p) then it would be more justified but it really feels like they just want to charge $250 just to raise the resolution a bit and have some more minor details.
This upgrade is really only worth it if you either don’t have a good PC (which to be fair is much more expensive but does more) or play almost exclusively PS Studio games that have unlocked frame rates and even then, the only games PC don’t have is maybe Spider-Man 2. GTA 6 I guess might look good on this, but without a better CPU most tech guys doubt it’s gonna be 60 fps. Spider-Man 3 will definitely be a PS6 title

🤓☝️ actually the visual difference is quite easy to miss and hard to tell it's even there. But the made difference is higher visual quality at higher fps that's the PS5 pro in a nut shell if your gonna play GTA six PS5 pro might not be a bad decision because wouldn't you want the most powerful console to play one of the most highly anticipated video game of all time at the best graphics and best frame rates ? 🤓 If I had the money i would. 🤓
EU and specially UK got absolutely cooked on the price. If you want to buy the PS5 Pro with the disk drive and stand you are paying nearly 1000€ in the UK for a console. What the hell is Sony smoking?!?

We use £ in the UK btw not Euros but yh almost £830 with the drive and stand, which translates to over $1k.

Having 60 fps in fidelity mode is pretty neat and impressive , but I’m sticking with the original ps5. It is amazing still after 4 years. ❤
Yep, me too. I just purchased a 1TB SSD so I’m good to go for the rest of this Gen and probably a good few years into the next as well.
Wasn't 60fps in fidelity mode a selling point for PS5? They weren't even mentioning the performance mode and fidelity mode. All of a sudden you had to choose netween these two.
The issue is there is no guarantee you can run games on fidelity at 60fps. It’s up to the developers.
The current PS5 isn’t being used to its potential.

If a game is badly optimised, well that’s it, you can’t do anything about it other than toggle between the two visual modes and see which one runs better. It’s why PC is forever king, if a game don’t run well on your system, take the time to spend 10 minutes optimising it or use up scaling such as fsr or dlss

They clearly have market data that suggests this is what consumers (they are targeting) wants.
Contrary to what people may believe, there is a world OUTSIDE of the internet. People seem to have this inherent belief that whatever is said or seen on these social sites are actually gospel.
Just look at ALL the posts of “protests” and “boycotts” pre Pokemon Sword, Shield, Scarlet and Violet releases… for all the noise, the games still sold 50+ million copies combined.
People have also often yelled the PS5 have no games, but Sony still ended up selling 60+ million consoles.
I’m staying with my current ps5, but they are also including 2tb of internal storage so that’s a nice upgrade as well
Considering how easy it is to install an additional SSD and the pricing that $700 looks terrible. I got the PS5 Slim and a 4tb Samsung 990 Pro SSD for less than the price of the Pro.

Yeah Nintendo Switch 2 could be half the price of PS5 PRO. Its sold well but took longer than PS4 to sell as many and it has the pandemic helped increase demand and stock issues increased demand at first, sales have now fallen.

Pro would have been a great deal if it had CPU improvements as well. It will be really hard for us to notice much of a difference in games that are CPU limited.
I’m just gonna stick with launch PS5. I honestly don’t really care about the drop in resolution when playing in performance mode and it’s not really that noticeable to me unless I look extremely close at my screen.

It’s still cheap compared to buying a decent graphics card for PC. It’s just what I wanted out of it, some games still being 30fps is horrible to play with. Think they should have done it £699 with the disc drive though.
I agree with the disc drive sentiment. I actually have no problem with the price, but it coming with no disc drive scares me for the future of PlayStation. Are they hinting at the PS6 not coming with a disc drive either?
Physical games are the main reason why I play on consoles more than on my PC. If they get rid of that, what’s the point of me playing on an inferior machine, rather than just using my PC?

So let me get this straight… for 4 years you’ve essentially sold us PROTOTYPES of unfinished products because they were rushing out to compete with Xbox. You sold the unit with a MISSING SSD And a half of storage drive… this is a money grab and that’s why the catalog is 4 years old to show games off to play “the way the developer intended…” sounds to me like you all told on yourselves SONY… you knew this was what the SYSTEM was suppose to be 4 years ago when you released it.

I was gunna buy one but now I've seen the price I'm buying myself a series x to keep my ps5 company. Best of both worlds.

its the lack of disc drive that got me. I'm totally the target for this kind of enthusiast console but that missing disc drive finally drove it into my brain that Sony is moving away from physical disc. That's totally fine and all, but I can't be expected to trust digital purchases on a locked generational environment. Sure, there's backwards compatibility but that's not always a guarantee. If your only option is to buy digital games I just can't justify doing so on a console. Am I crazy here?
Totally understand what you're saying. I'm the same, I will always want a disc drive, so I'll need to get a disc drive separately too.
@@SpawnPoiint Thing is, by making it optional and expensively optional we lose support for the format along the way each time. Publishers/Devs are already skipping physical editions here and there. The end is nigh for us fans of the media. I may have overreacted and bought all the parts for a Ryzen 5 7600 + 4070 S build out of pure annoyance lol..

I think Sony is just making fun and laughing at the gaming community right now. They have gained so much power they don't even care if 100 people buy it.
@@193sora193 “Gaming Community” Sorry mate but Sony only rules the console market, they are literally irrelevant outside the console market. It’s one of the main reasons why Sony is still so hell bent on continuing the console market, it’s the only market in gaming they control. PC is ruled by windows = microsoft, and for games steam rules pc which again is controlled by windows. Sony has almost no influence outside of console.

It would be a great deal if the PS5 PRO included a disc drive at that $699 price. Regardless, I'm still impressed with the console's capabilities. Looking forward to some exciting game announcements at State of Play next week!

I think £700 is a great way to solve supply chain issues.
Since they're taking away the disc drive as a standard, I wish Sony would allow people with a library of physical discs to download the digital copies.
My wife & I will be getting the Pro day 1. Now it’s not for everyone, but we’re a gamer household and we can afford it. 💯
The lack of a disc drive is a problem even if you mainly play digital games. Most people I know use their consoles as Blu-Ray players to watch movies and TV shows. Owning a digital only console would mean that your entire Blu-Ray and DVD collection becomes obsolete.

When the ps5 came out in 2020 it was already mid level hardware, and when the 30 series came out it was a laugh. No one seems to be talking about how much more it costs in the UK. £700, at the current exchange rate of around 1.30, is over $900. Add to that the cost of the disc drive at £100 (or $130, but it's only $80 in the US) and that's another $50 extra we Brits are paying.

Sony can keep it at 1TB insead of Built in 2 tb. Not everyone wants more than 1 TB built-in as many people still prefer owning a disc and then reselling/exchanging it.
Get a good OLED or QD-OLED TV of 55" with 4K120fps and all relevant features instead of buying PS5 PRO. Push Sony to Include Disc Drive and keep internal SSD at 1TB while keeping price at 599$ Only. “Ps5 pro” Come across your channel recently and i’ve found you’ve offered the most balanced view I’ve heard. I also like that your sensible enough to make that yes you can sell your ps5 on in order to part fund the pro which no one seems to have mentioned. This does drop the cost a decent amount. I’m personally quite excited for the pro, I do want to be able to mix higher quality and more performance as I hate having to choice and when I do it’s almost always performance. The fact games will generally run better even without a pro mode makes this more like a gpu upgrade and tbf those aren’t cheap in pc’s at all so I find the price makes sense. One thing I feel that’s not been mentioned is if an SSD can be added? I assume so as I’d like to move mine over from the ps5 I have now and keep my games without having to download again.

If you have a Fat PS5, consider yourself lucky. Clean it every year, expand the storage, it is enough. If you want better fidelity, play on a PC.

One of the most sensible comments here. A PC for $700:00? That's laughable. My 2021 PC cost $5000:00AUD. I'm planning on an upgrade next year, completely new build, another $5000:00AUD (At least) depending on what the latest GPU's cost. Only reason I don't have a 4090 right now is I prefer my PC not catch fire, otherwise I'd have one in my rig. I game on both PC and console and prefer cutting edge on both. Been gaming for 45 years and never been any different. Peace.
I have no problem spending £800 on this, I think people are blowing this way out of proportion. You’re not entitled to own one, a gaming console is not a necessity, it’s a luxury. I play on my PS5 90% or the time, so I’m more than happy to upgrade to the Pro model, and get 4-5 years use out of it.
The 4090 isn’t for everyone, just like the PS5 Pro, all these sheep need to quit moaning what people want to spend their money on, because I can tell you now your ability to afford this is the last thing I care about.

Over 120 fps is meaningless unless you have a TV or monitor that displays at 120/144 hz frequency. COD MW3 plays at 60 fps in Performance Mode now so I don't think it would go over 120 fps.
The PS5 Pro is $1200 in Australia and if you want the disc drive it's another $160 + $50 for the stand. I bought the original ps5 on black Friday sale last year for $680 which also came with spiderman 2 physical copy included with the bundle

I got the non-slim I guess on run out before the slim was released but if I want to upgrade to the Pro I would be paying double the price of what I paid for the original PS5. hopefully there is a sale but that may be at least a year away before that happens, if it ever happens.

All others I have digitally because that makes enough space for anything else, to be honest. And about the price, yes, it is a lot, I agree. But imagine you want to buy a TV, book a holiday, or anything else. I mean, the cost is bigger than that, to be honest. So, as I said, I would buy the PS5 Pro with a stand without a disc drive. That's all my opinion.

I don't get why people are freaking out about the price. If you wanted a gaming pc with the same performance as this new ps5 pro, just the graphics card by itself would make up approximately 70-80% of the price of the ps5 pro.

The problem is that its barely an upgrade to the regular console yes, youll get fidelity and 60 fps but thats just not enough to warrent a 700 bucks console imo.
For around 900 you can get Pc good enough for majority of stuff. And lets not forget pc have no need of sub for internet, you can play older games(which is also paywall on ps), emulate like majority of consoles, custom settings, cheaper games(heck even free if you pirate) and what about all other stuff. Editing, programming, office, doing work, learning skills, creating servers? And also reason why pc is expensive is not even game related it's gpu for mining, ai etc..
Also not mention if you really want to max potential of your pspro you will def gonna need expensive tv or else this is no way in hell worth of regular ps5.

The monopoly of Sony's ps store and the extra cut they take while also demanding money for internet access and a disc drive to play games, that you already own is absolutely ridiculous. Imagine buying those collector's edition games only to have to buy them again digitally to actually be able to play them. I know I won't be "upgrading".
I hate the price. It’s genius. People are going to see this price and decide it’s not worth it. Buy the PS5 Slim and then when the right games come out bundle it. Then discount $100 after 1-2 years later. Patience saves pockets.
This is the first time in my life saying no to a Playstation. This is actually sad and pushes people farther and farther in PC gaming. For 700 you can get 30series pre ow ed and prebuilts from best buy and that includes laptops. And for double if you crazy to get one from a scalper 40series in the same condition.
Yeah but then you have to worry about compatibility issues and terrible PC ports. I did PC gaming back in the day and just got sick of certain requirements. It's getting to the point where you have to either have a specific PC for retro gaming and an ever evolving PC for current or just pirate everything. I still have a PC for emulators such as RPCS3. So I won't judge anyone for their purchases but there are pros and cons to all formats.

Personally, I don’t see the need to upgrade. The current PS5 works perfectly fine for me. What really puzzles me is why Sony decided to release the Pro without a built-in disc drive, and if you want one, you have to buy it separately. On the plus side, I do appreciate the bump to 2 TB of storage on the Pro compared to the original 800 GB, but honestly, you can easily solve that by grabbing an extra SSD, which is super easy to install, for the OG PS5.

GPU will have next to no impact on frame rate. So they’re promising 4K 60fps by upscaling from 1080p. It’s mind blowing that people still eat this shit up
The GPU is 67 pct more powerful, raytracing performance is up 43 pct...its not hard to expect that would increase 30 fps 4k to 60 fps 4k
@@bigdawgfm it is if you understand that FPS has very little to do with GPU. Its often a CPU issue and they admit the CPU is identical to base PS5. So IF it’s able to get 60fps, it’s because they’ve lowered resolution and upscaled.
Digital Foundry did a breakdown of this and acknowledged that FPS is unlikely to be altered by a larger GPU.
Sony realized that there are always people who don't care about value for money and can pay anything to get the latest tech. Thats their strategy.
The price and the sheer ugliness of it keeps me from getting, plus my regular ps5 still works like brand new…. Also why does everyone keep saying finally 60fps, the regular ps5 does that plus on certain games gets up to 120fps
I’ve already spent $750 on the OG ps5 due to upgrading storage and getting new plates. Plus I value physical copies. I can’t justify the purchase but if you haven’t already invested in an original then it might be nice to set aside a little more to get the best.
