Only 'quite quick'! As an MG fan with an MG Maestro turbo and an MG 3 in the fleet it's so pleasing to see MG back with a performance car and making use of the XPower brand. I do wonder how much it would cost to charge an EV at home as having no experience of this? Great video!

To be honest, we didn't plan on running laps, rather just doing the acceleration tests. So we didn't time any of the laps. We did have one overheating issue with the MG4 brakes (front, passenger side started smoking) after Sam had done a few very hot laps (after the "first impression" video), but that was probably due to the fact the brakes were barely bedded in (Only 100 miles driven before we got to the track). After he took it on a cooldown lap, they were fine, and they actually performed better afterwards (suggesting they'd bedded in properly!).
Great video Miles. Nice looking car, not Downunder yet but looking forward to seeing on Aussie roads. I'm still crying the MG5 was never bought into Oz as a practical wagon. Would be a laugh to see the Power go up against it on the track :)

ev technology has been in development and constant use in domestic appliances, thats why if you can make a washing machine, you can make an electric vehicle also - you might want to compare production price for an electric motor to ICE engine, the price difference is ASTRONOMICAL as electric motor doesnt need any complex machining tools and work as engine needs, no super fine tollerances, no pressure no explosion no high temperature... even batteries are cheap, they run under 150 USD per kwh when installed in car

No, the batteries can give 100% power all the way down to around 10% or less remaining in the battery, and even then it can still keep up with traffic perfectly well until it gets to 1% or less. (But ideally you wouldn't want to run it that low regularly)

Looks a nice car & its quick , I thought this would be a game changer at the price. But Volvo has blown this Mg4 out of the water , Just as fast but a better range & it has a much better spec glass roof & ambiant lighting & don’t take this the wrong way but it’s a Volvo & only £4,000 more. We all know when you come to sell it you will get that £4,000 back & maybe more as Volvo 100% hold there value better. The seats also have more adjustment. So regretful the extra £4,000 is well worth paying & a no brainier. If this Mg4 had been released 12 months ago it would have been no1 choice for price & speed. But this Volvo has changed the game , It’s just a couple of steps up on the MG for quality , the MG isn’t a bad car , it’s made for a certain price. But Volvo has took it to another level with the EX30

@@ChorleyGroup That is crazy, buying a Porsche and it has cloth for a roof. MX5-RF roof style would of been good on the Cyberster, guess weight would be a issue then. Hope the car performs well and is well reviewed, would give the brand a nice boost. Like what the Kia Stinger did for KIA
Takes JUST 40 minutes to charge to 80% and there is the problem with EVs, my ICE car will be fully fueled up in 4 minutes I really hope they can one day get the time to charge down to say 10 minutes or so then EVs will start to become a lot more of a practical choice that and the current lack of charging infrastructure puts me off at the moment, that's one impressive car though for the price it's amazing.
If you can charge at home, then effectively the charging takes seconds (plug in, and let it get on with it). The average car in the UK is only driven for 1 hour out of 24, so that gives 23 hours of possible charging time per day. www.racfoundation.org/media-centre/cars-parked-23-hours-a-day
@@ChorleyGroup Exactly, if you can charge at home then great, problem is 40% of people me included can't and until the infrastructure vastly improves and charging times are comparable to refuelling an ICE there will be a reluctance to go EV even with a car as tempting as the Xpower.
And, that is the problem with ice cars - you had to drive to get fuel, fuel up, pay, then drive back Whereas, 90% of all ev charging events are at home. Here in Oz, the ave daily commute is 42kms, and that 42kms can be recharged at home @ an ordinary 2.4kw household outlet in just 3.5hrs. Every morning, an ev owner can leave home with a full 'tank'. Evs are far more convenient than ice cars.
They are if you have your own charge point, here in the UK 40% of homeowners do not have access to their own charger and public charge points are now per mile more expensive than a half-decent diesel or petrol car my own car a Mazda 3 e sky active x does over 60mpg on a run and averages 50mpg overall. @@nordic5490
Also nobody ever just drives to a garage to get fuel and back again, you get it when you are passing a garage on your journey to somewhere else.@@nordic5490
Imagine if it weight at least 500kg less, if they manage to make a battery with the same power density and half the weight it won't be that bad going to electric.
Yeah very expressive new it would see of the m2 in the exhilarating but bet you the bmw would be faster round the bends pity they did not tell you the track times of the two
60K for an premium ICE or 36k for a new EV (that is 2 for the price of 1, if you trade in after 2 years and get a new one MG) - and its a 7 years warranty 😅😂😂
Like this guy but anyone buying an mg off of the back of a review by a dealership must be mad. I’ve owned an mg and trust me I’ll go to great lengths to try and put people off buying one so like me thru don’t waste their hard earned money, awful cars, even worse after sales service. Go on the mg forums you’ll see a lot of owners either pissed off with the cars and service or in denial because they don’t want to admit what a mistake they have made.
The MG4 is a nice car for the money , The trouble with this X power its late to the game. The new Volvo EX30 is out now & that's slightly faster & has better range plus can charge faster & its a Volvo so build quality is going to be great & Volvo hold there money really good. Yes its £4,000 more than the Mg but it beats the MG in every category for performance & range & charging plus it has ambiance lighting full glass roof & a bigger screen & the tech is better. Yes the MG4 X power is the fastest car in its price bracket of £36,500 but you can see from the interior & exterior where the saving have been made. Seats dont have many adjustments , its a really dark cabin , no Ambiant lighting , no wireless car play. Its not cheap cheap but its no where near the Volvo. In my opinion it needed to be more special tho fake cheap plastic callipers covers are just wrong & where the power tailgate that 90% of the competition have and 18 inch wheels on a performance car. You can see where they have made the savings. The Volvo for the extra £4,000 is a no brainy , Its worth a lot more than £4,000 plus being a Volvo you know it will be worth over £4,000 more than the MG when they are both 3 or 5 years old , so in real terms it won't actually cost you anymore & because it will hold its money better will prob be cheaper to buy over the MG in the long term. Plus I know MG say it has a 7 year Warrenty but only the actual paint work is covered for 7 years. compare Warrenty the Volvo is better & covers more.
This car is gonna get some serious hate if it carries on demolishing the likes of M2 and the Audi etron GT. Just waiting for the... But it has no emotion or sound bla bla bla.

Volvo EX30 Twin motor ultra top spec is £44,495 -11kw charging 0-60 3.6s
Smart #one Twin Motor Brabus Edition is £43.495 22kw charging 0-60 3.9s
MG4XPower Twin Motor Xpower Edition is £36.495 7kw charging 0-60 3.8s
all 3 great fast EV cars interior is better on Smart brabus with the flash Ambient lighting
bang for buck has to be MG4 X Power its 7-8k cheaper than other 2 all depends on your budget
Impressive car but much rather have the E-Motion, shame it was scraped.
E-Motion has been reborn as the Cyberster. Due in Spring 2024. 534bhp on that, so should be even more impressive than the X-Power!
@@ChorleyGroup Cyberster looks cool but i am not into convertibles and it has a cloth roof which seems odd as it starts at £50k
Porsche Boxster has a ragtop, and that's £70k
@@ChorleyGroup That is crazy, buying a Porsche and it has cloth for a roof. MX5-RF roof style would of been good on the Cyberster, guess weight would be a issue then. Hope the car performs well and is well reviewed, would give the brand a nice boost. Like what the Kia Stinger did for KIA
I took one out today for a test drive , all I can say is Jesus Christ!!!!
Why? Would you like to meet him?
If it is skydio, drone shots would be best :)
We don’t like using autonomous flight, much better for creative shots with manual control. Drone used is a DJI Air 2S 🙂
Seems great value for a new motor if you like the style of a wardrobe on wheels.
Love it
can't wait to get one and mug of dad in his megane rs😂😂😂
You can't beat an electric car on power delivery: Instant power and no lag. Why? All the torque instantly produced upon stepping on the pedal.
What is the vmax on it
124mph apparently
@@Buck3366 not that shabby then
Takes JUST 40 minutes to charge to 80% and there is the problem with EVs, my ICE car will be fully fueled up in 4 minutes I really hope they can one day get the time to charge down to say 10 minutes or so then EVs will start to become a lot more of a practical choice that and the current lack of charging infrastructure puts me off at the moment, that's one impressive car though for the price it's amazing.
And, that is the problem with ice cars - you had to drive to get fuel, fuel up, pay, then drive back
Whereas, 90% of all ev charging events are at home.
Not a fan of the bi colour scheme. Much rather have the matte green colour all over inc roof. Shame not more options to customise.
Yeah very expressive new it would see of the m2 in the exhilarating but bet you the bmw would be faster round the bends pity they did not tell you the track times of the two
You had a drifter drive it, but he didn't drift it.... opportunity lost!
Love everything except the colour.
It's available in several different paint colours, so you don't have to be green to be seen. 😎
60K for an premium ICE or 36k for a new EV (that is 2 for the price of 1, if you trade in after 2 years and get a new one MG) - and its a 7 years warranty
😅😂😂
M2 is straight six, not V6.
Whoops. That's why he's Mr EV, not Mr Combustion Engine 😬
@@ChorleyGroup Ha ha, true. Good attempt though, keep it up!
this car beat Audi e-tron GT 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Like this guy but anyone buying an mg off of the back of a review by a dealership must be mad. I’ve owned an mg and trust me I’ll go to great lengths to try and put people off buying one so like me thru don’t waste their hard earned money, awful cars, even worse after sales service. Go on the mg forums you’ll see a lot of owners either pissed off with the cars and service or in denial because they don’t want to admit what a mistake they have made.
MG will be worth about £3 in a years time
The MG4 is a nice car for the money , The trouble with this X power its late to the game.
Build quality ? The Volvo is made by Geely in China. MG is made by SAIC in China.
I agree £4k is no brainy - If you haven't got an extra £4k you're not going to get the Volvo (on a company car budget for example).
3.6 mi/KWh not exactly world beating is it? And, why do all EVs look like they’ve been styled by leaving a Lego kit too close to a radiator?
Looks of car dont match its performance, thats the next thing theyve got to get right
This car is gonna get some serious hate if it carries on demolishing the likes of M2 and the Audi etron GT. Just waiting for the... But it has no emotion or sound bla bla bla.
No emotion ? I own a FG Falcon, Turbo 4L Barra, >800ish hp on e85, 1100nm torque at the rear wheels, great fun, lights rear the tyres up @ 100kmh and never lost a traffic light race.
But my next car will be an ev.
Do the brake pads contain asbestos? In China asbestos is allowed by law.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
M2 after all still a front wheel drive base viechle. It is a handycap IMO
M2 is rear wheel drive
Yeah M2 is rear wheel drive and would have won on a lap, as much better chassis and weight setup
We did actually do a lap of MG Vs M2, but the M2 couldn't get close enough to try to overtake (on this circuit)
@@G3RTHI'll be damned. A regular 2 is FF. And the m version is fr. Bmw really lose their mind.
@@ChorleyGroupwhat is the best lap time for both car?
I am sam, i like pies
M2 will last 3yrs tho
MG4 X-Power has a 7 year warranty. #justsaying
@@ChorleyGroup still be in garage every week
This is probably the blandest presentation of one of the more exciting recent cars.
Are you trying to make the video longer to cram in more ads? Because there's no other reason to be this slow.
Why do you keep taking both hands off the wheel?😮. Perhaps your wife is correct.😅
That was when the car was using the Automatic Cruise Control and Lane Centring, so it basically steers by itself. But you may have a point....
shame its so ugly
