You guys have to watch the one where they clean out the attic. When Mama hands Eunice that old lamp instead of the lovely Tiffany one, I actually had to pause it and blow my nose from laughing so hard. I have always watched these by myself and I have had the best laughs of my life. So thank you to everyone who took the time to do this for everyone's enjoyment. What a gift.
Mary Perron I agree this episode and the attic are my two favorites. I always felt sorry for Eunice she tried so hard to please her shrew of her mother she could never win. Mama always favorited Ellen over her even though Eunice did so much more for her Mama
The part when the violinist moves to their table and Eunice starts singing to his playing is hilarious! I don't know if it was the writers or Carol, herself, who came up with that, but it was brilliant . That look in her face as she starts swaying to the music and then she go's into that high-pitched whine, as she tries to sing 'Strangers in the Night' but doesn't know the words cracks me up everytime I see it.
Even with the wacko camera angle here on the TV set and the low grade audio, I still love seeing this classic sketch where Eunice gets a little taste of the better life-- only to be quickly robbed of the moment because of her family. That expression that Carol Burnett used right before the sketch ends, of a person who just lost the keys to the kingdom ... just, wow. Eunice is so pitiful. What great acting and writing!
Eduardo Corrochio Ya know, nobody forced you to click on this video. If you want better quality, start uploading your own videos. Nice analysis of the sketch though.
@Kitten Lyric She lost control because of their ignorance and rudeness. Mama and Ed caused her angry outburst and so they got her kicked out. It could've been a pleasant evening if those two knuckleheads had just made some effort to not be so coarse and common. It's not as if Eunice was acting like a jerk from the getgo and then got tossed out; during their stay at the restaurant she was trying to be the example, to show a little class to her family ... which, naturally, ended in failure.
Eunice's face at the end broke me :( no matter what she does her family always has something to complain about or be ungrateful for....I know the feeling. Carol Burnett really knows how to get you in the feels...
Thank you for posting this. Anyone who has ever read 'One More Time' by Carol Burnett will recall that her (poor) grandmother was notorious for taking toilet paper rolls and silverware from theaters, or wherever. I think many of the 'Family' behaviors come from Carol's mum and grandmother. This was also one of my mom's fave sketches in the '70s, because sugar prices were rather high at the time.
It would be a dream come true if they would release all The Family sketches together on a DVD set. Honestly this is what Mama’s Family should’ve been a fair amount of the time. Good show but these Carol Burnett sketches are overall better and funnier!
I think they did it cost $100 something dollars I work for Amazon but it says Carol Burnett show I don’t know if is just all mixed completely seasons I am sure Eunice and mamas are included in the dvd collection. Check it out
@ Michelle Miller, thank you for posting this, I don't remember seeing this one before. I love watching these, especially as the Carol Burnett Show and Mama's Family were always favorite shows of mine. That look on Eunice's face at the end, so sad , was heart breaking, really. Eunice was always trying so hard and could never quite make it. (BTW, the sound was fine when I watched it...I had no trouble at all with volume or understanding what was said. I'm thankful you took the time and effort to record and upload this.It was a great to see. Thank you!)
Visit it...what's going on over there? Poor Eunice she just wanted better things for life. I know this is a comedy sketch and it’s so funny but there is a sadness to Eunice’s character.
Doug I understand what you are saying about Eunice character she just wanted a quit night out to eat. It’s a shame because their are some real mothers out their that are real shrews.Always felt sorry for her because she could never catch a break with her Mama, Ed, and especially with her sister Ellen
Mar Watson I grew up watching this and as a young kid it was just funny.! But now as an adult there is an underlying sadness. Like I said it’s funny but all she wanted was a better life or an experience once in awhile at something different. That last scene after they were told to leave and she turn around and just looked back. That was a sad ending. I felt sorry for Eunice.!
doug avila Agreed with everything you said as children it was funny but as we get older it’s not so funny there are people in real life who can relate to Eunices character.
These are really good replies on here and it's so sad to see how people can really be to a specific family member sadly none of us can change who we are related to but we can get the hell away from them!
Thank You for posting this episode! Haven't seen this one for a long time, and it's just hysterical - Long-suffering Eunice as usual trying to enjoy herself at a ritzy restaurant and putting up with low-life Ed and that old bat Mama, complaining and carrying on about everything! I feel so badly for Eunice, she doesn't want that much in life but to be happy and look what she's stuck with, I think the reason we all find this so humorous is because we can identify with her!!
Thanks for this.... this sketch is so hard to find! I hate the fact that they took out so much. When momma is told "It's chocolate mousse" by the blond lady, and blond lady is so angry makes no sense... unless you know what was cut out. When they first walk in momma sees the blond eating something and asks her what it is... I think it's the roast chicken... momma asks the blond again what something is..... making the blond even more aggravated.... by the time of the "chocolate mousse".... the blond is really angry...... I know they edit the reruns for time.... but they often take out the best parts!
I just found this and it's wonderful to see it again. (I know it's edited, but nowadays everything is.) I saw it when it first aired and was hysterical! The pepper mill was/is my favorite part, ending with her screaming "I AM NOT GONNA BREAK IT!!" Thank you for posting it!
Poor Eunice makes such a fool of herself in this one - constantly berating the other two for their uncouth behavior while her own MUCH WORSE behavior ends up getting them kicked out.
That is true. Though, ya can't help but feel that they sorta drove her to it. Not that they control her behavior. BUT, I feel if she'd have been there by herself she'd have been just fine. Or with that friend her mama hates that came to visit her one time in "The Family - Friend from the Past" sketch. They were laughin and havin so much fun together ^_^
I was just thinking the same thing, when I get to work there are speakers on the computer & I'll turn up the volume & be able to hear all the shrieking! LOL
Michelle Miller if you can upload video to RUclips, I’ll send you the files to all the episodes that have the family skits and you can upload them, you got allot of views for this,
Salad bars were all the rage in the 1980's and 1990's. Even some of the nicest restaurants had them. Now, they are a thing of the past, except some Ruby Tuesday's.
Isn't that the same dress Eunice wore to Vint and Naomi's wedding?!! Pretty sure it is. I never noticed back when that each character had their own color they wore all the time.
I noticed it too how the main Mama's Family characters seemed to have their own colors. Mama: blue/purple, Iola: pink, Vint: khaki, Naomi: yellow and Bubba: green.
Craig D I remember watching those and was so disappointed they were taken off. Thanks for reposting! Please post any more of the Family sketches you have.
I will try to find this sketch in its unedited form. Mama, when looking at the menu for the first time, asked, "why don't they print the pictures on the menus like they do at Fat Jack's?"
I feel sorry for Eunice. She was just trying to have a nice night out at an upscale restaurant and it just couldn’t work out. She just could not temper her frustration because of mama and Ed’s ignorance.

At 7:16, the Chaim toast by Harvey Korman was definitely ad-libbed; you can tell CB & VL were thrown off a bit, plus no way would the Ed character have known that!
Hey, Michelle if you can upload video to RUclips from a computer, I’ll send you the files to all the episodes that have the family skits in them and you can upload them, you got allot of views for this and I imagine you can get some more (I’m offering because I was going to upload them but it won’t fit the theme of my channel and I spent allot of time searching RUclips and google for the episodes and don’t want that to go to waste.)
I had no problem hearing this. In fact I had to turn my volume down. Don’t understand where all these complaints are coming from about not being able to hear it. Enjoyed it very much. That show was one of the greats.
Boy, I've certainly seen that trick many times - shoveling all the condiments into a purse or pocket. Hell, I've even seen a woman shovel all the bread from the breadbasket right into her purse, and didn't even bother wrapping it in a napkin two tables away from us. Then, when she came out of the ladies room, her purse was bulging. No doubt she swiped the huge roll of toilet tissue and jammed that into her purse as well. What absolutely gobsmacked me was that a couple of waitresses noticed it and did nothing about it. Ugh. It makes you want to cover your head with a blanket in humiliation.
Did you read Carol Burnett's autobiography "One More Time"? At restaurants, her grandma would take alot of those sugar packets, toilet paper rolls, AND utensils! Now, I'll admit, in restaurants I would take a few packets, but that's as far as I would go - to me, her grandma taking utensils is downright stealing.
@@chaswr When I returned from the service, I clerked for what was called an "old money family" of attorneys to put myself through school. Well, if you didn't learn absolutely proper social behavior from them, then you had to be as thick and dumb as a box of rocks. My boss was cool in that regard without ever being obvious. After a time, I noticed when he invited new young employees to a meal, he always was sure to start the meal to show the others what to do with the dozen (or two) utensils at the table without saying a word. One of his speeches after your hire was always self deprecating in an attempt to get your attention. He might say, "Man, when my father first took me out to a fancy restaurant I didn't know what the hell to do with all the forks and knives. So, I just kept my eye on the old man and followed his lead." If that didn't clue you in, then you were a real putz and probably wouldn't last long.
God this was my family growing up. There comes a time when you have to realize how toxic your family is. Poor Eunice should have gotten out a long time ago.
Typical of Eunice to worry about what everyone else thinks of her and she ends up being the one embarrassing herself, but sure go ahead and blame Ed and Mama. No wonder Ed left her :/
This episode reminds me of that episode on The Andy Griffith Show where Barney was trying to show off to some high society types (The Clubmen) and instead made a fool of himself.
That is the line that I still remember from decades ago: "I got better salads in the Army!" Excellent!

The part when the violinist moves to their table and Eunice starts singing to his playing is hilarious! I would agree but in this scene, Eunice was the one who caused the scene that got them kicked out.

My mom would get all the tissue and some bacteria soap.
“It is a mill! A MILL! And with a mill you GRIND IT! You grind it, mama! DO YOU SEE HOW THAT WORKS?!?” 😂 And her spaghetti arms 😂
That line had me in years. I was laughing so hard.😂😂😂😂
What was this filmed off of? .... a television on board the Titanic!
Pure comedy until the last five seconds.... then pure tragedy.
This was a treat! I've been looking for this episde for the longest time, i would love to see the episode were they meet Bubba's school teacher!

i just saw that episode on RUclips. you have to hunt around for it. Put Carol Burnett and Maggie Smith in the search bar.
Just write what you want to see in the search line, and it will come up.
6:44 "chocolate mousse" what a snob. Lol
Darn, the sound is so bad, I can hardly hear it ☹
“You do...if you want...a salad...”😂
We all know someone like this! So crazy! I loved The Carol Burnett Show growing up. Laughter is the best medicine!
Before Roseanne there was Eunice. And a high end restaurant with a salad bar? Okay...
Salad bars were all the rage in the 1980's and 1990's. Even some of the nicest restaurants had them. Now, they are a thing of the past, except some Ruby Tuesday's.
I remember salad bars-they left no room in your stomach for the meal.
Remember...this is still Raytown.
Roseanne don’t have anything on Carol Burnett, half the time it seems like she’s ( Barr) reading her lines.
I think high end is relative. High end in whatever town they live in is different than high end somewhere like NYC or LA.
So sad. Gotta spoil every single good thing that comes their way. 😢
Harvey and his “l’chaim” toast, which Ed would never have known! 😂😂
Isn't that the same dress Eunice wore to Vint and Naomi's wedding?!! Pretty sure it is.
