This is the very first “As the Stomach Turns” that was only planned to be done once but then went so well they continued doing it for the entire 11 year run!!
Interesting fact: Carol Burnett bought the house she lived in for many years, which had formerly been owned by Betty Grable and Harry James. Before Betty was on the show, Carol invited her to the house and walked through all the rooms with her.
Carol Burnett show set the bar so high for sketch comedy that TV has been trying to catch up for over 50 years--and even 25 years AFTER her show stopped, the rest of TV is not only playing catch-up--they are steadily losing ground...
Obviously you haven't seen the Dentist. With Harvey Korman and Tim Conway. They both crack up and if your sides aren't splitting, there's something wrong with you. Check that one out.
I’m guessing they rehearse these a few times before they aired them, but it was often when they improvised on air that broke them. They were all good at it, no one more so than Tim Conway who I believe was the king of improv.
Nothing ever better than Carol Burnett and that genius cast! They had it all, great guest stars, great writers, a live orchestra, marvelous costumes, and the greatest cast of any tv show ever!
Agree totally, Carol who is 90 years old soon is a national treasure! This sketch on "As the stomach turns" is one of, if not the funniest!! Betty G. is great with Martha R. as guests in this "soap episode", as all are awesome! Their lines with Carol keep one in constant laughter, as repeated line "___ sit down" and they are already;, Martha hugging all the "Moms"; Bettys "I dressed you funny", Martha's I tried to kill you" and her timing with eye & hand jesters as looking thru her black gloves just floors all watching! Can't believe how they control their own laughter, as the rehearsals help, but think how they first got through it! I bet most had even the sound & cameraman bursting out laughing! Thanks Carol for ALL the great memories and relevant comedy even now in 2023! Indeed, wish current comedy had even 10% of the brilliance you gave us all BACK then! ! Happy & continued health on your 90th Birthday Carol!!! Ears tugging back to you Carol, Cheers!!!
It was my mom's favorite. My father used to call it "As the Sperm Squirms." I thought he was talking about whales until I was in junior high health class. 😅
I thought I saw every episode of Carol Burnett and five times each too !! But I somehow never seen this 😍🤩😍🤩 one with Martha Raye and Betty Grable no less !! All I can say is: what a wonderful 👍👍😊😊 privilege, and As the Stomach Turns was one of Carol's very best skits !! Thanks for the upload and it's in perfect, mint condition too !! Just loved it !! 🧡🧡❤️❤️💜💜
That's definitely Betty Grable.. all those years of too many cigarettes and all that booze took its toll on her once fabulous looks! She died a penniless alcoholic addicted to gambling.
Hysterical. I wonder what year this is from. I know Betty Grable died of breast cancer in 1972. Just wondering if this was around then, as she looks to be wearing a wig.. maybe getting treatment? Anyway, always a pleasure to watch these clips.
OK, so they arrested Trump. But they really failed their law enforcement duty when they did not lock up Martha Raye for blatantly, mercilessly, stealing every moment in this brilliant scene. She's is a master of the double take, the one shoulder shrug, the flick of an eye (OK, she needed both eyes to carry it off). This is a Master Class in timing. And we all know the secret of timing is comedy.
Betty Grable, the mother that suffers from amnesia, and Martha Raye, the woman who wants to hug everyone, Lyle Waggoner the long-lost son, and Harvey Korman who was supposed to be locked up in the basement, but comes down from upstairs... 🤣
It's 2023 and this show is STILL funny!
For real!!! Full on belly laughs.
❤😂🎉 Funny still now 2024.
"Gasp!!!" That just floored me. What a pleasure to see Martha Raye and Betty Grable together hamming it up on stage.
Priceless!!!
I remember Martha Ray as a kid from The Bugaloos. lol
This is the very first “As the Stomach Turns” that was only planned to be done once but then went so well they continued doing it for the entire 11 year run!!
Martha Raye was so incredibly funny. Her sense of physical comedy and timing was flawless.
The writers certainly captured all soap operas. Very funny indeed.
I love As The Stomach Turns, especially when Mother Marcus is on!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Me too
❤😂🎉 Same for me.
Martha ray is comedic gold 😂
Hysterically WHIP-Smart. Sinfully Underrated, too.
'Sit down'
Probably my favorite reoccurring sketch in the show. Funny how the first one was a "finale" lol
Carol Burnett is a national treasure and her show is gold. Just the show title, As The Stomach Turns still makes me laugh after all these years! 😂
anything with Martha Raye, one of Carol's best guest stars, is aces to me.
Interesting fact: Carol Burnett bought the house she lived in for many years, which had formerly been owned by Betty Grable and Harry James. Before Betty was on the show, Carol invited her to the house and walked through all the rooms with her.
It is oddly amazing to see Betty Grable and Martha Raye hugging each other.
12:09 “Gasp” we all know they almost lost it right then and there! Martha Raye is fantastic! 🤣🤣🤣
The funniest show on TV when I was a kid. God Bless Carol Burnett
Carol Burnett show set the bar so high for sketch comedy that TV has been trying to catch up for over 50 years--and even 25 years AFTER her show stopped, the rest of TV is not only playing catch-up--they are steadily losing ground...
The only thing that came close was InLiving Color and MadTv.
Monty Python ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
How could they do these without bursting out laughing. 😂
@9:13 you can see Betty in the back trying very hard not to laugh... 😆
Obviously you haven't seen the Dentist. With Harvey Korman and Tim Conway.
They both crack up and if your sides aren't splitting, there's something wrong with you.
Check that one out.
@@scottmccloud9029 oh I have. It’s hilarious.
They often burst out laughing. One of the major appeals
I’m guessing they rehearse these a few times before they aired them, but it was often when they improvised on air that broke them. They were all good at it, no one more so than Tim Conway who I believe was the king of improv.
Back then we were blessed with wonderful people with fantastic talent, true stars. I am so glad we get to see them in a great show. Awesome!
Nothing ever better than Carol Burnett and that genius cast! They had it all, great guest stars, great writers, a live orchestra, marvelous costumes, and the greatest cast of any tv show ever!
Yep it's surely the best!!!
Carol Burnett is pure GOLD
Absolutely hilarious. Never knew Betty Grable could be funny
Martha Raye was in a class all by herself. Love her facial expressions!
Totally Agree.
Hysterically WHIP-Smart. (Along with) Sinfully Underrated.
Martha Raye. Benita Bizzare(The Bugaloos)..."The Big Mouth"(Polident Denture Cleaner).😁💕
Theatrical genius.
I would not mind seeing an entire marathon of As The Stomach Turns🎉
Where else would you see a 13 minute long sketch that keeps you laughing the whole time?
"Victoria, sit down". 😂😂😂
Carol Burnett is the greatest. So talented.
Never did a soap opera entertain me this much. Just brilliant!
I think this was the first episode of "As The Stomach Turns"...❤
I don't think I saw this episode before, so I was expecting Connie Canoga/Martha Raye to yell at the organist. Martha could vocalize! 😄
11:11 Miss Betty was trying so hard not to laugh. But I was coughing my head off. Hilarious
"No, it was a boy you just dressed it funny." Truer words have not been spoken.
Good old times when comedy was just comedy.

"As The World Turns" was my soap. I was heartbroken when it ended!
It was my mom's favorite. My father used to call it "As the Sperm Squirms." I thought he was talking about whales until I was in junior high health class. 😅
@@jenniferedwards1752 😂😂😂😂
Grable's legs are were still sensational ... These three women were all legends!
This is probably my favourite Carol Burnett sketch ever (btw, I never even grew up with soap operas)
The original reality show😂😂😂😂
"As The Stomach Turns" is the most disgusting, nauseating, diabolical soap opera ever! In other words, IT's THE BEST!
That was SOOOO GOOD!!! Great seeing Martha Rae.
Ohhh this is so funny
Love this sketch.
OMG, this is SO funny and Betty Grable is so gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing.
They just don't make shows like this anymore. So sad
Loved the video !Thanks so much !
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SHOW!!!❤
Love it !!!!!
MOM!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Sooooo funny!!!!
I guess the song took his breath away 😂
Thanks, Carol, and all.
Brilliant! Loved the Jimmy Cagney impression at 09:08
Love you Carol Burnette!
I adore Martha Raye❤❤
Thank you so very much for the upload. This show is apart of my childhood memories. I’d watch with my great grandma ❤❤❤.
So funny.
The best
My gosh this was funny. 😂😂. Martha Raye had me in hysterics with what looked like some improv
Simply brilliant... 😂

😂One of my favorite clip , Love It😅
I always watched carol burnette.
*Burnett
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Funny!
one of the best !
First of the As Stomach Turns
Omg! 😂😂😂 Lmaof
Betty Grable was great in How To Marry a Millionaire
Betty Grable was about the same age as Halle berry or Jennifer Aniston are now. They aged differently back then.
Different moisturizers, different filters & surgeons....
This script would fit right in the RPDR parodies
Always extra chaotic-seeming with straight-man Lyle Waggoner in the skit.
Who is that handsome man?
His name was Lyle Waggoner. He was also in "Wonder Woman" (the TV series). I had a big crush on him when I was a kid. ☺️
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thats Betty Grable??
Yep! It took me a second but that’s definitely her!
At first I thought it was Peggy Lee, but then yes looks like Betty Grable ❤
I dintthink that's Betty grable
That's definitely Betty Grable.. all those years of too many cigarettes and all that booze took its toll on her once fabulous looks! She died a penniless alcoholic addicted to gambling.

SILLY SILLY SILLY the BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST...........................🤣♥🤣♥😂

This was from 1968, she died in 1973. I was wondering about her hair too, but wigs and hairpieces were kind of in fashion around then.
The things I took from this show
My inflection on “wonderful”
Now I can’t mention Ludlow Falls without mentioning the Ludlow Falls falls.
Is that Betty Grable?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That was REAL comedy! And they did a great job imitating soap operas…. Realistic! They are so ridiculous
This could have been a comment on any Soap Opera even of today. 😅 So Fanny...

Beta: “Good heavens!” 😢 😮 😩 🤓
Sigma: “GASP!” 😎 😏 😈 🍑
😂
🤣🤣🤣
How ironic (and sad) that Martha is portraying a gold digger, and unfortunately, she married one herself.
Um, isn't this clip actually from episode 21 of season 1, which originally aired on February 12, 1968? This excerpt isn't from E 22.
Betty Grable?!!
sit down, victoria
Who’s in this sketch with Carol? ❤😂🎉
Betty Grable, the mother that suffers from amnesia, and Martha Raye, the woman who wants to hug everyone, Lyle Waggoner the long-lost son, and Harvey Korman who was supposed to be locked up in the basement, but comes down from upstairs... 🤣
