  • @alexanderelrod8932
    @alexanderelrod8932 4 года назад +1

    No, it spun the rear bearings for 7 and 8 and comprised the interference clearance at the valves which caused piston to valve contact.. If it had valve float trust me all of them would have contact patterns..

    • @The73Garage
      @The73Garage  4 года назад +1

      Alexander Elrod I agree! I had a few theories as to why but I’d been leaning toward the sudden change in tolerance when the counter balance broke off the crank shaft.

    • @alexanderelrod8932
      @alexanderelrod8932 4 года назад +1

      Have you pulled your low pressure pump and inspected the cover for damage causing low pressure on the bottom end as well.. If it snapped the crank too you will need to get it linebored as well.. The tune was obviously not working as it should and caused wayyyyy to much fuel pulse width at low rpm .. These things break cranks

    • @The73Garage
      @The73Garage  4 года назад +2

      Alexander Elrod the engine has been totally rebuilt with a new block and crank. New front cover, new lpop, etc. Rods, main studs, girdle, cam, and so on. Believe it or not, truck had minimal pulse width in the tunes. I’m thinking the combo of injectors and turbo caused the damage.

    You're not making me feel warm and fuzzy inside.... I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Irate this week. It will be interesting to find out what the root cause was of this. I went with beehive springs due to Maier's recommendation. I really don't want the same thing happening to me.

    @ 1:37 Oil feed line for the turbo charger? Ummm the oil is fed through the turbo pedestal, there is no "oil feed line" on a 7.3PSD..... Or do you have a non stock turbo on that?
    Man I'm sure that is way easier with help pulling out, I've never had any help pulling a 7.3...
    Careful with those HF stands, I know a guy that had one fail with a 454 on it.
    Fun to watch video. I've got a 7.3 with almost half a million miles on it still runs and tows like a champ... Well did, I need to finish rebuilding the D80 that self destructed on me,.
    IF you are near Johnson City TN, I've got 2 good cranks... And other 7.3 parts, I've parted out quite a few.

    • @The73Garage
      @The73Garage  4 года назад +1

      Yes! Truck does have an aftermarket T4 turbo mounting system from Irate Diesel Performance. The new pedestal blocks off the old turbo drain and utilizes a braided line from the original feed point. The oil drains into the old mechanical fuel pump mounting spot. That's good to know, I'll let you know!

      If the bearings look good, then the only two things, I could think of, that could break a forged crank would be hydrostatic pressure or a metal flaw.
