Super awesome to see a kid into diesels and dreaming of driving it, and I'm not hating but when he said it's a pretty rare truck to have that motor hes wrong theres a hell of a lot of obs powerstroke out there
Have to tell my neighbor to stop doing that, he has a 88 f350 with 7.3idi original owner, he plumbed a straw from the cab into the engine bay for those hard starting moments 😂
You do realize millions of diesel trucks have been sold over the last 70 years that had factory-installed cold start ether kits with a button inside the cab right? Ether, when used correctly, will NOT do any harm. On top of that, it's impossible to have ignition on the exhaust stroke (the only other upward stroke of the piston that is not the compression stroke) because no compression can be built. The exhaust valve(s) will be open to allow the engine to push the exhaust fumes out of the cylinder, and therefore ether just goes out the exhaust valve. But, ether can't make it into such a cylinder on the incorrect stroke anyways to allow that, as the intake valve won't be open to draw air into the cylinder. Please, get a job at a fast food restaurant and allow the knowledgeable technicians repair vehicles.
The concern is not that ether will pre-ignite on the compression stroke of a cold diesel engine. The only risk is a glow plug or grid heater igniting the ether. A glow plug could ignite the ether early on the compression stroke, but with glow plugs disabled this is not a risk.
@Babylon falling Shouldn't ever be needed on current production diesel engines in proper working order? Sure. If you're unaware, things do fail at times where repair isn't immediately possible. A 4 stroke diesel engine is not going to start at -40 degrees without a block heater and/or glow plugs/grid heater. Remote outposts in multiple states, especially Alaska, may lose power for extended periods of time. If you're 900 miles away from a parts store when your last glow plug solenoid dies, and theres no access to electricity, ether is your ONLY chance to get the truck started. You shouldn't use ether on a daily basis, nor should it be needed, however extreme circumstances do arise where it may be necessary. For anyone to say ether absolutely cannot be used on a diesel engine without damage is a moron. There are millions of trucks on the market currently that the factory-installed "cold start" system isn't glow plugs or block heaters, the factory installed system is in-fact an ether injection.
I got a 24v Cummins for my first truck. It seemed cool but I hit a deer in a week so it just wasn't meant to be. Went out and got a Ford and it's never let me down. I was given a sign that dodge... Ain't it.
Old fords are not bad. I'm 17 with a 94 ford f250 with a 7.3. Power steering is slowly goin out gettin that replaced. The secondary tank doesn't hold diesel and needin to plug a small hole in a differential. All in all its not a bad truck
Not to be unfriendly or unkind but if it's not starting with the ether you should go into the injection system and bleed the system or at least see if you got pressure coming out I just hate using ether to get it going cuz it does so much damage especially if the diesel is not coming out of the injectors anyway good luck to you guys
@@HammerdownMotorsportsUSA like I said good luck to you all it's just that if there's no smoke coming out of the tailpipe when you're cranking that usually means that there's no diesel going into the cylinder which means there's no lubrication which means with The Ether you just scraping and scraping just try to avoid that
Kind of a stupid question, but sometimes its the stupid stuff, that we overlook... Did anyone ever step on the skinny pedal after the key was turned on? That lets the cold start/fast idle stuff take effect.
Glow plugs and starting fluid do NOT get along. Never use starting fluid in a 7.3. By the looks of your black fuel filter oil is getting in the fuel which means injector o rings need a change.
Be careful with that starter fluid- a backfire and its up in flames. Send it steve lost his eye brows and some of the hair on the top of his head from a backfire
I drive for work a 1996 E350 with the 7.3. Getting 20 mpg loaded with tools and materials. Frequent oil changes (5k) miles keeps it running flawless. Never again will I buy a modern diesel. From DEF heaters to DEF pumps they are cost prohibitive. Even under warranty they stay at the dealership for 2 and 3 days at best. Lost revenue alone makes the modern diesel a bad choice. Better off buying a 7.3 and rehabbing it.
I got a 97 f350 cab n chassis 4x4 7.3. I had to replace my front brakes and i was missing a couple clips inside my auto lock hubs. Finally got that fixed then a few weeks ago i blew my tranny. Next month i should have the money for a jasper. Something went bang and i was coasting. Input shaft? Love my trk. Pull a 13k trl and i wanna get a pickup camper something light wieght around 2k loaded and i wanna get my tractor tires loaded which would be 1k so with my 9k trk i would be 25k. Just a little wieght. Trk had bad leaf spring hangers check yours out see if bad or not
The proper side for the flag to be on is the right side. Not the left. Like when you march, you march with the guidon at the front right of the formation.
8:37 you can plainly see that the key isn’t in the on position but it’s in the turned back radio play position it would’ve started if that stupid kid had turned the key the right way
Lucky kid... I didn't get my dream 7.3 truck until I was 30
lol my 7.3 wasnt expensive

@@muliechaser1618 I disagree cuz everyone around here does and there grandma has an obs

Mine sat for 3 years drained the fuel changed the filter fired right up also put new fuel lines on it to keep going at it man I believe in any 7.3
Got a 97 350 was sitting for 5 years. Got it running . Now just gotta change all the steering and suspension .

Hey buddy Great video you got a nice shop , good luck with that 7.3 kid ,I have same year truck f 350 7.3 with 289000 on it ,run like a beast
7.3 power strokes aren’t a fan of ether. Just crank em until they fire. They will huff and puff but cranking power is what they want.

Can't wait to see more on the mini bike and Camaro.
Olde Carr Auto Guy sent me over, nice channel. I subbed for more of this action. Merry Christmas. Something about those 7.3s

You can by pass the ignition switch and started directly on the solenoid......
but the key need to be on on position or never going to start.....
Time lapse on the Reno, my vote. Great video and keep on working on the Ford. :)
That truck needs to stay stock it will last longer and look better
Keep that hammerdown!
Your shop is looking good!

Shoulda put the shop up on the high ground. Besides that she looks gooood 🇨🇦
Chris Negenman the place I put it was the easiest access to the driveway maybe we will put a pool on higher ground who knows lol
Ford carries those dash pads. May have to get it from a distribution center, but they can get them
I had a grand national that I let.sit for 13 years. Hot it started and she sold for $27,000. Not bad considering I paid $10,500.

it wasn't during a glow plug cycle but there was another issue that caused it not to start I'll be posting an update soon

Take 5 oz of diesel and 3oz of gas and mix them in a spray bottle use that never use either on them
That has to be the biggest bathroom for a shop. Nice try on the truck.

Willie Williams well I always thought of it as the gear shift on a stick car like drop the hammer but whatever your take on it Keep That Hammerdown
have you done anything else on the f250 disel
A. The 7.3 is not rare in that body style.
B. If it’s been sitting for 7 years every seal is probably fucked.
Just needs a little more cow bell that's all!
Did you end up pulling the trigger on either the ram for f150?
Eric Sandhu decision is coming very soon
somebody was hungry and ate the dash board
Ether in a 7.3... not a good idea dude
Jerry Nunya little sniff never hurt she runs like a dream now I need to do an update vid on it
Yeah man you really should do an update on that ol girl. I love those OBS trucks

I'm looking for the follow up ??
Ty it will be soon for sure
Is it bad that this is my dream truck
I think you sprayed a bit much of the starting fluid there bud
Don’t spray starting fluid in a 7.3 you will destroy that engine
RayJProductions97 So dumb never in a diesel these guys have no idea what there doing
RayJProductions97 no you won’t we have had 5 and have all had ether ran in them to start when it is cold
There’s no part 2?
Well I’m waiting till it’s back together it’s currently a frame lol things escalated
Damn lol.
Improper tools for the job is the Pennsylvania way. Lol.
thomasbabb686 lol we figured it out the right way later on this was a quick and dirty attempt
Check the oil level. It’s it low it won’t start. That’s how the old heui motors run. Just saying. I would check that first. Then CPS
Jake Ramirez oil level was good I’ll be making an update video soon to show what we found it wasn’t what I thought we would find

It's not good for diesel to start on starting fluid
Seeing a non-riced 19997 diesel is rare, don't ruin it.
Nathaniel Clark - Can’t say I’ve ever seen a “riced” OBS Ford. You mean jacked up and pimped out?
Probably shouldn't have let it sat so long over the years.
they got it that way the previous owner didn't want to pay to figure out what was wrong, we will get it going no problem
Where is the 7.3
It’s torn apart right now I’ll do an update vid at some point
Well itll start eventually 😂
That Powerstroke Bloke yup I think it has more going on than just dead batteries

Sounds like it has a dead cylinder
filter was black the engine has an oil leak into the fuel system
it's called asphaltine it happens with old filters from the fuel going through over the years pretty normal
Why get a rebel flag? Your from pa. But it says alot
Wow how long until we see about the truck???? Who cares about the shop???
