Tsunoda/TTC also makes very good traditional slip joints (PL-200 model). They're chrome plated and have rounded off edges on the entire length of the handle which makes them more comfortable to use in general.

Hey TTT, TTT here! I have some Diamond Duluth Needle Nose that I got from my Gramps also. They are Copper Beryllium, very Toxic to Sand or Grind when Restoring. I'm going to keep them Original anyway. I Love 'em! Just wanted to put that out there.
I have the snap on pliers like yours, channellock and a Japanese pair that look similar to your diamond brand. Out of all of them, the Japanese ones have the strongest teeth. The snap on and channellock are good but the teeth are softer and have flattened. Japanese steel is superior in my experience and I think a lot of people don't know that because unlike the rest of the world the Japanese people keep to themselves and don't hype about their products like us in Australia and you in America.
Very nice and true I agree. The Japanese made tools are very high quality. And most people either don't know and then sometimes depending on the company it can be expensive to get some of the Japan tools in the usa
My great grandpa actually had those same pliers! He passed away about 6-7 years ago and they are still in his tool box at the family farm in Kansas. I need to go down there and sneak them home 😂 My only pair of slip joint pliers are the Snap-On ones with the green handle. I think it was $40 or so with a deal. I grab them and my 10” knipex cobras and I’m set to turn just about anything I need 😂 P.s. Exhilarating Bass here, long time watcher. Haven’t commented in a while. Keep it up Tony!!

Dude, same here re Diamond pliers and my great uncle plus grandfather. I used a small pair the other day to remove a small hose clamp on an overflow tank.

One thing I like about the Snap Ons is their jaws are longer and tapered instead of rounded. Though they may be a little beefier at the rivet, like you said, that extra length and taper still give good access in tight spaces.
As a person that carries a set of slip joint pliers everyday at work I don’t think anything can beat the snap-on ones. I cut the rubber grips off and use them for everything from a hammer to a starter.
Light weight and light duty. I have each one of these pliers and the Fujiya is by far one of the “weakest feeling” pliers. I thought I would use them more and carry them with me but I just ended up grabbing a 10” pair of Doyle slip joints. I also like tongue and groove pliers. I grab those from time to time because they’re really tough. I thought I liked small pliers until I needed a larger pair. (I use Knipex cobras too, but it’s fun learning how to use old tools.)
Picked up some Diamond Deluths from somewhere and they are the ones on my workbench I grab almost every time. Looking for some new choices. Surprised Knipex doesn't have something in this design.

I found a Matco Tools slipjoint pliers under the hood of a car. (I love my 3 position Snappy's) They were large, kinda thin looking jaws, didn't look all that impressive. They are my go to pliers now. Mostly for spring clamps ,I guess, and yes I have some spring clamp pliers, legit ones , also the cheap ones with the little cup on the end. Aaaand ,the cable style.(very good) The Matco pliers are the best overall, fit, form , function. Not sure who manufacturers them . Sorry "LARRY " ! [Etched in big letters] I asked around...
I still have a pair of Diamond water pump pliers in my mobile box. Now that I think about it, they likely were my grandfathers. I need to ask my dad about that. Knipex makes some amazing pliers, and I love the Snap-on comfort grip, but I can buy 3-4 blue ones for the price of 1 premium, and they work a lot better than 1/3 or 1/4 of the others. I see a lot of blue handles in mechanic's boxes so I suppose they feel the same. :)
Its funny. When I was kid in the 50s, all my dad ever had was slip joint in 2 sizes and a needle nose. Fast forward 20 years when I started accumulating tools that is what I stared with. But quickly got Channel Locks. And now have several brands and sizes of many styles. Today, I hardly ever use a slip joint. Always seems to be something better for the task at hand. On the other hand, I think if you needed to, you could make use of those classic slip joints for 90+% of anything you needed to do. But it is fun to accumulated tools. 😉
Capri has them. They’re made in Japan and if you spend $25 this month you will get them for $10. I just ordered them a couple hours ago with a few other items.
What happened to that Matco set? Did you sell it? I wish Channellock still made their version of that set. Pretty sure they were the OEM for the Matco set when it was still made in USA.
@@oilwings I use those pretty often as well just bc I also do a good amount of automotive electrical. So it's nice to have a pair of pliers that can do multiple things. The tough part is finding a pair that fits your needs the best
Ok. SO I buy a lot of pliers. My kitchen handles cast iron pans with thiers, so I've bought a ton over the years. The snap on is beautiful, but we rejected them overall, due to price and it's thickness. I literally just ordered the bigger verison of the Fujiya, and will get them next week. As far as the tekton, I'm currently buyuing those in bulk. Those are the current pliers we are using. Those are basically the same as the John Deere verison (which has a green and yellow grip), and the old, Napa P27 Pliers, which is what we used for years. The thing about the tekton's and the snap on, is that they have "high torque" handle ends, It's meant so that you can grip the ends, and apply more force. The tekton handle grips have proven to be better than the Deere ones, but the old Napa P27 grips lasted forever, and put up with a lot of heat. I personally ordered the Fujiya, for myself, since I wanted to see if It was light enough to keep in my pocket while working, vs the cooks who usually leave theirs on the counter. Side note: The snap on are worth the price. they are extremely well built, but I can't stress how much value I get out of the tekton's, which are way cheaper than the John Deere or napa (unavailable anymore), which usually run about $25-$30. as far as the snap on's, It's one of the few snap on tools that I own, along with a few screwdrivers.
Now get u a pair of the new knipex twin grips. They look amazing.

Snapon needs to make some euro style combination pliers based on their slip joints. They have the linemans which are a completely different breed.

I have both and definitely use slip joints more. But that's just automotive wise. If I did more electrical work it might be a different story.
