I think those 196ancf counter part might be a German made pliers maker called NWS, or a old Crescent brand model.
Awesome. I now realize how some those tools can make my projects go easier. I have a 6 inch slip joint that I just love so much too
Flush cuts are a game changer! I use a Knipex pair myself and I love em! Excellent video as always!
I never use slip joint pliers, but for some reason I bought a pair of Knipex twin grip. Maybe eventually one day I will need them for something. I don't work with tools (except at home) but I do love collecting them.
I always found the idea of personal preference interesting when it came to tools. What one person loves another can hate, even if they do the job equally well. Just for example, I've seen many rave about how comfortable or exceptional the handles are on Snap On pliers. I've used them a fair bit, and quickly found I absolutely loathed them. They worked excellently, but the squish, texture, and size the thick handles had bothered me everytime I picked them up. I stick with Channellock basic blue grips for that reason. They're thin, smooth, and prevent slipping without bulking anything up.The pliers are nothing fancy but do the job, are decently priced, and are made in the USA. So they happen to scratch that itch for me. Proto, Klein, and Wilde pliers also fit that bill. They're incredibly simplistic, but they just generally work.
Personal preference is life my friend… everything except facts are subjective. Subjectivity isn’t inherently negative or”bad” (although kids seem to think it is).. it’s only bad when you think your preference is better for others
The grips on snap on pliers are just perfect. Is nice and thick without being a blocky, multi material “comfort handles” that other brands use. The snap on grips have a slight amount of squish and do not have a smooth finish. There’s a slight texture to them that heat feels really nice to hold, even when you’re squeezing on the handles with both hands they just feel good.
Doc. I’m begging ya Boss. Full shop tour!! Please!!
I have the 49acf I love them !
That particular rivet shape was once very common, Kreauter and Herbrand used it as well as others.
I only have one pair of Snapon pliers, and they're the nicest pliers I've ever used.
A vintage 6" Vacuum grip needle nose model 195 I think that belonged to my grandfather, I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I realize now what good some of these tools can do for me
I just bought the Harbor Freight Icon flush cutter, i have not seen the Snap On, but it looks like the Icon is an exact clone. I enjoy using them, I cut zip ties all day with what I do and usually use Knipex, but now I need to get the Snap On as I like the Icons so much. Doc you should do a comparison between the two.
Great video. Adding to my plier collection now.
Anything pliers related or cutting I’m trusting Knipex. They just take their time to make a great product. I like American but Knipex and Stabila can’t be beat.
Snap On has also the newer HL138ACP Slip joint pliers. I've been quite curious to check them out.
I've got two pairs of those. I love them. They appeared in one of my earlier videos. I should do an update about them.
Well now I want more tools from snap on.
Silky smooth
Had to keep looking for the part number on those cutters. I’ll prob just grab the Icon version until SO makes the color I want lol
Hi Doc (and anyone else who may have an opinion on this question) - Now that you own the 196ANCF (fastener gripping), do you still feel a need to have the 196ACF (without fastener gripping)?. I recently purchased the 196ACF and I'm now thinking I should have got the 196ANCF because it would do everything the 196ACF could do, plus grip fasteners. If there is a case for not having the fastener gripping capability (flat jaws) it would alleviate my potential buyer's remorse :-) Maybe better for gripping something flat?
Thanks again! Binge watching!
I was considering buying the snap on plush cuts maybe miraculous demonstration l😅
Still catching up on your videos and was wondering after watching this video, does snapon make a thin jaw profile slip joint in a 6” or 8”?
Is the 4-inch and 5-inch Snap on VectorEdge cutters as flush as the 6-inch Snap on 786CF?
Snap on 786CF (6-inch Flush cutter)
Snap on 85ACF (5-inch VectorEdge)
Snap on 84CF (4-inch VectorEdge)
94CF is 5 inches on their website, and what you linked was a 6 inch with a diff model number?
I'm sure Snap On pliers are nice, but are they really worth cost when so many other brands of pliers can do the same job? I have Klien, Knipex, Irwin, Channell Lock, Milwaukee - all at a fraction of the cost of Snap On. If I bought all these in Snap On, I would break the bank. I do have some Snap On ratchets, sockets and wrench sets and those were expensive as well, but I thought it was justified on the ratchets since they make great ratchets. I guess if was a professional mechanic, or service tech I could justify the cost. One odd thing I have noticed is they guy (Project Farm) that does an excellent job on testing these tools never seems to include Snap On. I wonder how they would stack up to the others.
The Knipex side cutters made for plastic are hands down the best zip tie cutters, and I've tried many.
I have a pair of kinda plain normal style Knipex pliers (02 01 180) that have a weird 6 point rivet
Great review
What's the part number on those fine point needle nose snap ons?
Thanks for watching. Sorry I didn't mention it. They are the P92055AG
I thought knipex made old snap on pliers
I'm sure Snap on Pliers are wonderful , but as a HVAC technician I prefer Klein Journeyman pliers or Knipex . Think the Snap on Red handle pliers are Channellock rebrand. My favorite Pliers are the Knipex cobra pliers , Klein Blue handle Diagonal cutters , and Channellock crimppers.
Odd quistion, but I saw hvac technician.
What tool would an hvac tech use everyday that I could easily get off the snap on truck that would be just super nice as a gift? What's the number one tool if your hands that I could get chromed out off the truck
Channellock crimpers are great. They are just classic style crimpers, a simple design as they should be.
Man.... these are not frequent and hard used tools. They all look brand new... You should see my tools as a diesel mechanic... 😬
Btw, I think your old red handled needle nose are an old Knipex, I have an old knipex that look exactly the same from maybe early 90s.
Why kc dumping weha?
Doc how old are you? You seem to have the experience and knowledge of a 100 year old tool nerd...
Snap on pliers are not snazzy looking. Stamped sheet handles UGH!!
And please don't throw your tools so indifferently.
Proto
Snap on, Snap on, Snap on! Sick and tired of your, 'Love-Everything-USA'. How boring. There is a world beyond the US borders making good tools as well. Hey man get rid of this US hex. Should I show you the vintage Snap on electronic pliers that I own. Bad workmanship. Cheapskate tools...
I like the hi viz yellow pliers
I like them too, but they get dirty just looking at them.
