As always, great video Tony, thank you. Nice group of pliers there...Although it is nice to have the US Made Tekton Tongue and Groove pliers, how do you NOT have Channellock 420 and 440's to lead that group of Channellock pliers? The 420 and 440 are the undisputed king of tongue and groove style of pliers.... I actually have a set of original 420's and 414's my Grandfather bought before he shipped out for combat service in WW2. These Channellock's were made some time in the late 30's or early 40's. While these beautiful pliers are still functional and more than capable of doing their job, they are now happily retired after serving my grandfather in his 35+ years as a Dodge dealership mechanic and serving me the last 30 years in my wrenching career.

I just bought several different pairs of Channellock pliers, linesman, needlenose, sidecutters, pump etc. to replace my old mismatched tools. I am quite happy with the Channellocks, and glad to know I can easily replace them, if lost or broken, at a local big orange store for a very reasonable price.

I am a Channellock fan boy. I'm open to other brands for other tools but when it comes to pliers and cutters I will only have the blue in my box. I will legitimately not work on something if I need pliers and can't use Channellock. It's the only thing that I get absolutely nutty about. Part of it is they are great tools and part of it may be that is what my Dad always used therefore that is what I have been using since childhood.

Tony another top notch no bias review. Keep up the good work. I think you will be very happy with the Channel Lock products. I own the end cutters, slip joints, needle nose and some smooth jaw slip joint pliers from my plumbing days. That is over 20 years ago. Major abuse and the Handles are faded but never has the blue covering ripped or come off. Very tuff and durable.

I have a few gear wrench and use them in my tinkering shop but my channellocks are my around the house and go to set
I am definitely a fan of the channel lock brand pliers variety that being said they also have a code blue version series and grip lock pliers their style locking water pump type pliers and oil filter wrench pliers in case you didn't know

Told ya! I love channellocks and prefer them over Knipex.. I really do. I had kolbat then knipex and now I love channellock for the price and the quality! (Not mentioning snapOn)

I love channellock. Quality tools at a still affordable price. I got the 3610 linesman’s and love them. In fact I’ve never had a bad pair of channellock pliers. Even the old ones I find at garage sales still work great

Another great video Tony. I have been looking at the channellock pliers. Gearwrench is one of my favorite brands but I've always thought comfort grips were cheap looking and bulky.

I used those channellock 369 lineman pliers to build an electric room for a target store, they are good quality except for the cutting blades, the chipped cutting some screws. Klein tools makes better lineman pliers, but for the money the channellock 369s are really good. Also, Channellock 317z long nose pliers have a slimmer profile than the set you bought, but both are really nice.

I also have the GearWrench set and a set of Channellock. Like you, I don't find anything wrong with the GW, I just tend not to use them very much. For slip joint, I always use the Knipex Cobras. The rest of the time, it's mostly Channellock. I also rarely use end nippers, I've used them for pulling nails and screws when repairing tires. I ground the top off a cheap pair to get flat to the surface.

Channel lock is all I have. They do outsource others tools like socket sets, but they’re built overseas. Most of not all their pliers are made in the families factory in Meadeville, Pennsylvania.
Ya they have been great so far. I have only ever bought pliers. I haven't bought any of the sockets or anything else
Speaking of "Klein" 90% of my pliers are Klein, Knipex or Greenlee. Those brands are Commonly sold at Electrical & Plumbing supply stores. Doesn't look like you'll need anymore pliers for a long long time, but next time that you do, you might want to look into Klein, Knipex and Greenlee. There is a very good reason why every professional electrician and plumber carries mostly Klein tools.

Good comparison I’ve been looking at the great wrench set. Those “nipper” or “nail” pliers are for earless clamps to squeeze them tight I have those. I use knipex mostly. Thanks for sharing

Channelock also makes a duck billed set of needle nose pliers and they are amazing for straightening and pulling cotter pins. #718. Also got Tekton 34421 long reach duck bills and they are pretty good as well. I believe they are made in China and are a bit too long for most uses, that’s why I ordered the channelocks because they are a few inches shorter and more usable in most situations.

I find myself reaching for my Channellock 337 side cutters far more often than any of the GPMS ones that l have. Cant go wrong with Channellock.

Channellock and Tekton are both great companies. Channellock's pliers are 95% as good as the German brands but 1/2 the cost. I'd love to see them make some plier wrenches. Their Spanish-made adjustable wrenches are the best on the market.
Tekton has incredible customer service, and really great value. Their Taiwanese ratchets are excellent. But their new US-made tools are really exciting. Excellent screwdrivers and pliers, but the wrenches are the best.
I work on medical gas lines, and their new 30/60 angle wrenches are the best i've ever used in tight spaces. I have Proto, Wright, SK, Snap-On and Craftsman Industrial, and the Tekton US wrenches fit better, and are stronger than all but the Snap-On.
And the price is great.

Channellocks is great quality no frills pliers but they just work and are very affordable to be made in the USA .I have about 15 pair of different Channellocks and love them all.

Just got the 77$ kit from Amazon and it was not in new wrappers like yours. Just came in that pouch rolled up with obvious wear in the teeth area. Returning it, but did find out that they are stocked at Home Depot so Im going there tomorrow when they open.

I’m personally kind of picky with pliers. I have a mix of everything because I like them. I’ve had the crescent linemans for 3 years now. The comfort grip is nice and not too bulky. I have southwire strippers because they’re stainless steel, had about four years now and still holding up! I do low voltage work by the way so they’re used every single day.

Tony I have a 3 pc set of Channellock G series tounge and groove and some other brand new USA pliers for sale, I had over 100 sets of pliers and a ton of waterpump style so I need to thin somethings out and buy different tools with.

Love the channel... It's great what Tekton is doing. Channellock )USA) are quality tools,great everyday tools. Only ones better are Knipex,NWS,etc...

I have the standard gearwrench pliers and i love them . No complaints. The comfort grips are bigger in the handle. One reason i didnt want that set . Great video as always.. #smallenginenation #keepwrenchin

I've been using USA made pliers labeled Ideal which I believe were made by Western Forge and they are great high quality tools.
I prefer snap on pliers and knipex, and wiha really good Pliers especially snap ones s3 point slip joint and needles nose with their diamond hatch grip and talon grip

Milwaukee is going to release an m12 angle grinder this year. Also a m12 fuel ratchet with extended neck so it can get to real tight places. I know its unrelated but figured id let you know.

Haha I only live 20 minutes from Meadville PA which is where those channel lock plyers are made drive past the factory all the time and own alot of them and don't have any complaints but I also don't believe that they are by any means the best in fact from the looks of the gearwrench set I wouldn't hesitate to buy them the channel lock being American made yes is always a plus but those gearwrench look heads and tails above the channel lock and tektons as far as appearance goes and the lifetime warranty and cheaper price for the gearwrench makes it seem even better to me after all it's all about the quality and bang for the buck that u can get these days I already own a few gearwrench sets because they're quality tools with a lifetime warranty and good looks and best of all affordable and u don't have to take out a loan or mortgage the house if ya know what I mean ya already have the money invested into a good looking lifetime warranty set that are by far better looking so it really just doesn't seem sensible to buy a whole new set that cost more than the ones u already have that look brand new as is with a different set just because they say made in the USA I mean I guess if we were all rich it really wouldn't be a problem but with most Americans that's just not the case these days unfortunately.
Like I said nothing wrong with the gearwrench ones they were great and yes they we're in good condition bc I take care of my tools. And for one I am not rich. I sold the gearwrench for a good price and overall spent another 15 dollars for a USA made set where I could buy the exact pliers I wanted with the designs and features I wanted them to have instead of buying a set that is already assembled. Plus I didn't want the comfort grip anymore so this is what I went with. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Great review. I have found that quinn pliers are a great line at a very good price better than the doyle one problem is that they are not american made.

@@TonyTheTechnician stop by my channel sometime man I get some pretty sweet tools that are exactly right up your alley, check out snap on pn# 61cf and 208ccp.. The 61cf are a duckbill pliers that hold things almost like hemostats, I also have a pair that is a little bigger 601cf I think and they are awesome for holding wires and things in awkward positions while using both hands for something else. The 208ccp are a battery nut pliers but I have found them to be great for almost any nut almost like channellocks.. The snap on version of these battery pliers are really thin and not bulky like others so you can get into places better. Im ripping out my primative stock efi system and putting in a Offenhauser manifold and weber carb in the next week or 2!

I’d have to disagree, Knipex takes the bacon every time. Knipex makes the best damm pliers ever made. I have some close to 10+ years old and the sill work like new.
@@Fuckitbro knipex is great and I love them. I have a few pairs from them but they are also a bit pricey compared to channel lock. I think both brands are great

Channellock you can go into homedepot or do it best and swap them out for new ones if theyre due... I've bought a set at the pawn shop and did that =p.. gotta exercise those rights and privileges or else we'll lose them. They're like muscles, you lose those when you don't work out.

Are these better than Dewalt? Just trying to learn more. I am a surgeon and know there are better quality tools from different vendors when I use them in the OR as well. I got the big Husky toolbox you recommended this weekend and trying to replace all of my tools next. Thanks for the great videos.

The Gearwrench are actually european style combination pliers, not Lineman's pliers. Combination pliers have a length of maximum 200mm (8"). Open jaw potion is combination pliers thing. Channellock also has a comfort grip, they call them "Code Blue". I have this roll here, but I paid 87€ (~98 US$) last year (pay attention to the sentence in the roll: "Work hard. Sweat blue"). They deliever a pair of combination pliers instead of Lineman's pliers:

The US made Tekton are made by Wilde Tools afaik.

I don’t own any gearwrench pliers. They always looked cheap to me for some reason. Obviously that is a superficial opinion but that’s just my opinion. I have been happy with channelocks and recently a couple tektons. But I have so many different brands and just make due with what I have.

So I have a pair of brand new channel lock side cutters and a pair of tekton side cutters and the tekton are 10 times sharper and cut alot better then my channel lock side cuts

@@TonyTheTechnician im looking at upgrading and expaning my own pliers from a managerie of pliers i have. Not to mention upgrade the quality from my Pittsburgh stuff which has gotten me by. Im looking at Tekton for the warranty support and USA made options but id love to compare with other similar price point and quality options. Trying to cry once as much as possible especially if it can last 10-lifetime use for DIY home use.

So the one tool you didn't get from Channellock is the tool they invented, the tool that gave the company its name, the tongue and groove pliers. That's just funny.
I don't like those comfort grip handles either. Not only are they bulky, they aren't as durable as regular handles. And they're harder to clean.
Completely agree about the handles and ya lol it took like two months for them to be delivered. I should have just went to the store and got them lol
Does it bother you that it's not all from the same company, as in not matching since those first two are Tekton? Its bugging me. I have them all ready to checkout in my cart on Amazon, but want to know why Tekton and not all Channelocks?
No not really the rest of my pliers drawer is already mixed with knipex, snap on, and a couple other brands and I wanted to try out both brands and those were the ones from tekton made in the USA so I went with those and the rest from channel lock

No that's not it. I wanted to get the USA ones. So that's what I bought. They still have alot of other good pliers as well

made in usa tolls now are worse than there chinese counterparts unless its from like snap on mac matco ect but budget usa tools are still budget tools
You do realize Mac and matco import almost all of the tools they sell. Channel lock is all in the USA as far as pliers. If you think you have to spend top dollar to get a good product your wrong. I have nothing against most of the china and Taiwan tools but if you think they are better then the USA tools just bc they don't say snap on then you may be confused or stuck in the mindset that only tool truck brands are worth buying. I'm just saying alot of other USA tools available are great quality for a great price. And just bc something is budget friendly does not mean it's not a good tool
