Making a 40 minute video essay about a guy predicting that content and engagement will destroy society is so unbelievably ironic it makes me lightheaded
Fr. I watch some of his vids as they always come up on my feed as I guess he covers topics I find interesting. But, by God, he is so tone deaf and lacking in self-awareness. Like the many times he's segued from discussions of sexual violence, or serious mental health issues into an ad for his sponsors, such as better health (notoriously awful and unethical "therapy" ap) flavoured air inhalers (designed to target teens), or, predatory microtransaction riddled phone games. Like, okay, man, get that bag, but he don't get to make these self-righetous moral invective videos and either put no effort into researching his sponsors, or, being aware of how terrible they are and not caring.
I wanted to watch this, but my brain literally cannot absorb information from all the RUclipsrs who now talk in this kind of hypnotic mind-numbing cadence
Born before the internet and grew along side it, makes it easier to discern the the ill implications social media can have on a young individual. I do feel bad for the current generation, as they can't compare, to live in a world without social media.
And now raising children in this hellscape is somewhat terrifying. We have so many safeties that we didn't have when I was a kid, but so many more threats...
from texting friends on my nokia brick phone to the whole world in my pocket. I get ya. the more social media expanded the more i reeled away from it. i could see how toxic it was in the myspace era and it only got worse when facebook became the norm.
In the show Twilight Zone (from the 50s I believe) hell is depicted as the place where you get anything you want instantly. Making him initially think he's in heaven
@@SidKlinker5477 I vaguely remember that episode. The original Twilight Zone was something else. No show that has truly tried to do what it did has come close imo. Great reference.
Real talk though, I really feel bad for him, but I’m very thankful for his own sake that he quit even though I’m going to miss seeing him release new stuff. This is what he needs and I wish him the best
People create the old internet instinctively given the chance. It sprouted when we knew what was on TV wasn't real, because it had to make advertisers happy. On the internet people shared what mattered to them, or what they really thought about. The internet we have now is ruled by ad revenue. It ruins everything it touches. Whenever somebody makes a little spot people can share with each other that isn't twisted by money yet, it looks like the old internet
He chose sanity over everything else. Don't think comedy/ performing was his calling - just something he did and did well, much like anything else he does.
He got the bag and had the sense to dip before the the system destroyed him. Good for him. I hope he's happy and living his genuine life, filled with family and real friends.
Reminds me of the time she was on Conan's show, behind the curtain with another female performer that was going out in a moment, and Perry silently walked up behind the younger woman and pretended to be groping her ass with both hands while mouthing something raunchy to the camera. Absolutely nasty disrespectful cringe.
answering this fake ass enthusiasm with discontent was just perfect ps: being drunk and german i feel so accomplished that i was able to pull discontent out of my ass you would not believe it
i wanted to put a clip of it in this video but its one of those songs (similar to many of his) where you just can't simplify it nor add valuable commentary to it. You just have to watch it yourself lol. I tried as hard as I could to break down his material but nothing hits harder than just watching it from the source
@@PatrickCc I know there's a real metaphor for what you're describing here (something about the journey and the destination), but the only thing coming to mind is "Cars don't make sense when you take off the wheels"
Bo Burnham is a philosopher of our time and he's going to go down in history as timeless. His mental health issues and struggling with how the world works will be studied for generations by so many people. He is a genius and I respect him on another level.
one of the few who was more awake to the way the world works, and struggles with the existential realisation that he can't make it better. no matter how much attention he tries to shine on it, everyone just laughs... and every time he becomes complicit in it.
@@ericaugust1501 You expressed that so eloquently. It's remarkable how deeply somber and melancholic sentiments can be conveyed in a way that is simultaneously profound and beautiful.
Smoking was a great example for what's going on with social media, we all know it's bad for us we all know what's going on yet we all continue on. It is a full on addiction and it's scientifically designed to get you addicted, they do not care about health they do not care about us, I've been saying this all for so long and I sounded like a crazy conspiracy hippie but now it's known. Giving things your full attention is so important, being bored is important, we do not need constant stimulisation it's incredibly bad for us.
No it's not. You people need to stop blaming the internet for your problems. You are psyped by those that have been trafficking me since I was a baby. You should be ashamed of yourself, blaming social media.
I've been saying this too but I just call it "dopamine addiction" since tik Tok literally shorted our attention span and it's caused a big social imbalance
It's not 'social media' that's bad though, its capitalism and financial interests of the owners of social media that's the problem. If you consider the early years of Facebook to what it is today - they're completely different. I noticed today as I was scrolling through my Facebook feed, how much sponsored content and posts from "groups you might like" was in my feed - it was enormous. For every five or six of these "posts" I would come across just ONE from an actual friend. All of the social media platforms today are no longer delivering 'social' content they're delivering paid content under the guise of social content. It's sad because all these platforms once had really great user value propositions that they delivered on with integrity.... now its just a sh*t show of trawling through crap to find small nuggets of gold and the proliferation of AI generated content is only going to make it that much more difficult for genuine voices with something interesting to say to be found.
For people's ease to find it, it's in the section at 6:50 Honestly, it's relatable how uncomfortable Bo was, I think everyone was while hearing some woman 10 years his senior talking like that, with no shame. Then again she's always been hyper-sexualized in her career, so maybe she just thinks being slutty is normal?
Fr I fucking loved that. Came here to comment it too. Cause she was being weird af and it didn’t seem like the crowd cared for her comments either. She also is the one who took the first kiss from some kid on American idol. He later was outed as a pedo and arrested. She is a creep tho fr. Glad he slid that in there
i was a die hard Bo fan first seeing "im bo yo" and a bunch of his other youtube songs. his first few netflix specials were great... the nostalgia of his special "words words words" is unreal, as a lot of his earliest songs are in that special. he is extremely talented and gifted and i'm glad he got the recognition he deserved. very entertaining on stage yet so self aware. thank you for this video Pat
This guy knows his shit. I just sat the other day thinking why do all these social media apps keep adding new features that I can't even keep track of because the time I nail down a new feature or gimmick they've got another one. Its the engagement and profitability and they need to keep you on your feet and keep you on their platform. And it truly does have an impact and as someone who has been socially awkward and anxious, its really difficult to navigate real life social situations unless you're naturally extroverted because social media can really wreck introverted minds by forcing them to stay in a state of comfort which doesnt allow them to break out of their shell.
I learned a long time ago not to update social media apps. They only cram more ads in and rarely if ever add user desired functionality. I used to just enable automatic updates. RUclips and Imgur scarred me.
In every Bo Burnham interview there comes a point where you'll see the interviewer look at him and think to themselves "This guy is an absolute genius on social philosophy, and I was not prepared for it." Every interview, without fail.
He once performed “Art is dead” on a show where Jerry Seinfeld was also a guest. During Burnhams performance you sometimes see cuts to Seinfeld, with his eyes getting somehow teary. As if he just realized how f’ed up fame is…
I'm realizing after I watched all 43 minutes of this video that I rarely watch anything longer than 10 minutes with complete undivided attention anymore. I need to relax and stop filling every waking second with a video or music or a podcast. The internet can be a great tool for connection, but it's also isolating when you're tuning out the world and real life by consuming content
You described my least favorite type of person. I highly recommend getting checked for ADHD, because your Tiktok brain will eventually make it so nobody you know can stand being around you. I would get checked out immediately, it's not too late.
@@Largentina. Terrible advice. You wont need drugs to be your best self. ADHD diagnosis is a gateway to stimulant prescription. Something shown to be far worse for you than any social issue caused from ADHD. The fact you are this self aware and articulate indicated to me that if you can hone in on these issues yourself, youll gain the ability to self police your media intake.
His old songs are supposed to be offensive. But the thing is, what people really need to start realizing about comedy is that Bo was mocking prejudice and ignorance not supporting it. Klan Cookout is a song that pokes fun at the Klan. My whole family is a self aware roasting of himself and his insecurities.
@@frustrateduser9933what's really sad is there are so many people out there too stupid to understand irony and satire and what comedy is supposed to be about in general. They just want to live in an echo chamber and hear clean knock-knock jokes.
Back when he was touring I was in my early 20's. I went to his Make Happy show. At the time I couldn't fully appreciate what he was trying to communicate. He's one of those artists that every time you come back and watch his content again you see or realize something you didn't before.
Dude that was brilliant. Some of those people in that audience had never and would never say that word out loud and he got all of them to enthusiastically say it in unison lmao.
I loved Bo’s quarantine special and especially the outtakes video that was also like an hour long. He rlly captured the feeling of that time for me. His serious stuff is also rlly good
I still remember that day in May when I opened Netflix and was surprised there was a new Bo special. I wish I could go back to that and watch it for the first time again. When the credits rolled, I wasn't sure how to feel. It was a mixture of happiness because I love Bo's content, but also a heavy-hearted despair. It perfectly encapsulated the feeling at the time. A true piece of art that should be preserved forever.
Great video. It is wild to hear that people did not find "Inside" funny. My wife and I have watched it like 20 times since release and still laugh. We even have inside jokes about it. The only segment that lacked any real humor was the song "That Funny Feeling" and the breakdown scene right after. Sure the lyrics are heavy/dark, but it is contrasted by the performance/delivery. The humor is there, in the contrast, like most of Bo's stuff, really.
Bo came out of nowhere. He was an inspiration to me as a young adult. Man mastered his craft and fucked off from public life. A real one, if there ever was... He's spot on about YT now. All the big sub/view channels are mostly derivative/commentary of other media.
I didn't know he dropped off the internet. Probably for the best he has made enough money to live the rest of his life better than most. He clearly is incredible intelligent to the point it might have been a detriment. Might help just to grab a day job and just pay bills. Nothing makes the BS of media and the internet seem pointless like 8hrs of work and just being to tired to give a shit.
He did not like her lol. In his song “k*ll yourself” he has a line that says “but if you search for moral wisdom in Katy Perry’s lyrics then…” well you can listen to the rest. But yeah she’s like the epitome of who he’s talking about in terms of morally bankrupt celebrities
Thanks for making this. I've always been a fan of Bo and it's really cool to have such an in depth and thought provoking piece on his career and commentary.
34:22 I wish platforms like RUclips had a setting so you could turn off shorts if you wanted to. I know that would change the algorithm again, and lots of creators would have to adapt, but it would be nice to have the option. Doomscrolling is so hard to avoid…
There are options for that. I'm using a version of the RUclips app right now in which I can not only deactivate shorts completely, but also adds, intros etc. are bypassed. I can even deactivate comments altogether. I don't know if I can write the name of the app here without trouble, but a simple Google search will lead you to the app!
@@Raggy9145 the same happens to me all the time sit down to watch a video see ONE short that looks half interesting then scroll for 15 minutes it's awful I've been wishing for a feature to remove them for so long.
Fascinating. I’ve never watched a single Bo Burnham video or special; but I’ve always heard of his talent. Somehow with knowing nothing about him this video captivated me. He’s such an outlier. He verbalized so much of what we are all thinking. He’s ahead of the curve. Even his MTV show was a good decade ahead. Hearing his interviews and having him go “off the rails” was some of the most thought provoking tales I’ve heard in a long time. Excellent video Patrick CC!
I hope this has convinced you to binge his content. As much as he might hate me feeling this way, his presence is a comfort to me like a lifelong blanket.
Discovered Bo in 2015, practically grew up with his stuff, and it was really conflicting seeing how his songs made me happy but he clearly wasn't feeling that same happiness. I was too young then to understand that contradiction fully, but even now I'm still upset that he couldn't find in his art the fulfilment that everyone wished for him, and that he completely deserves :'(
Letting Bo go, realising that the comfort he gave us came from the discomfort he lived with is the most loving and respectful way we can give back to him. Like Jenna Marbles (if you know who she was) - demanding their continued creation or return to the spotlight means we never cared to see them as people to begin with.
@Vakentz0r Yeah, I'm fine with him not creating more if that's what makes him happy. Wishing him the best. (Also, I thought Jenna quit bc she got cancelled for doing blackface maybe, unless I missed something).
This was very well done! The ending line had me saying just WOW! Your presentation was very researched and thought provoking, and I’m going to be mulling over this for days to come! 😊
@@thatdrummerdude3848 Yeah, well they turned it into google videos because their platform wasn't popular and after they took over youtube you know why it wasn't popular but they'd already gotten everyone using their browser so it pumped up the ability to market yourself much more...and then they made it their ugly off white grey when we use to be able to customize our channels much like my space, but no more with them. although they did bring the ability to do more technical things, it was the commercializing and control over content with ads that you could skip and then not skip, much like TV now which was most of the reason I watched you tube to begin with. It's become a monster.
feel this, I shared my hobby of longboarding (which wasn’t popular yet) and back then youtube felt like the space for nerdy random cool hobbies to share around the world and find like minded people. I don’t know what it is anymore but happy I had that moment and memory of it. miss it though, 2006-2010 youtube was a unique time.
@@ys1992 Yes it was. I love watching hobby videos, building computers, or crafty stuff....it's still on here but almost unbearable to make it thru the commercials sometimes I just don't want to watch it much as I use to.
I really relate to Bo as someone who wanted to be an actor, writer, music producer, band member, comedian, basically anything but a real job. What I'm realizing is I just wanted to be happy and nothing career wise has made me happy up to this point. Now with the way social media is, it doesn't matter if my music is good or if I'm good. It only matters if I can market myself to a larger and larger audience. And after realizing this, everything just sort of lost its spark. I feel insanely disconnected from what most people think is normal. Social media is a big joke that you're either in on, or you struggle in the corner thinking about what you're missing out on with little to no audience. but it DOES NOT MATTER. Social media has altered the way every young person thinks and acts. The world was so much better before smart phones and social media the way it is today. Now that I have two children, and grew up absolutely submerged in the internet as a teenager. I'm just trying to keep that influence away as long as possible. I want my children to do things because they want to, not because the internet told them or have them worry that it wont be received well or its not cool. I just want them to LIVE in this world without out caring about social media or the internets approval and its going to be extremely hard.
The younger generation feels the need to be relevant by having an online audience. I can't even imagine what that's like. Luckily, being Bo's age, I grew up during the early years where we still had some semblance of life offline. Not everything had to be recorded or created for relevance. Social media has to be absolutely horrible for kids today. As Bo said, "maybe allowing giant digital media corporations to exploit the neurochemical drama of our children for profit, you know maybe that was uh, a bad call."
> it doesn't matter if my music is good or if I'm good. It only matters if I can market myself to a larger and larger audience That was always true -- whether your talent can put food on the table was always a question of marketing. The difference between then, and now, is that back then whether you could find an audience depended on who you knew. Today, there is some hope that people with talent will find their audience without the help of major media corporations. I think that's probably a good thing. My old CD collection consisted only of artists who could secure a major record contract, while my more recent songs on my iPhone consist of many downloaded from Bandcamp, direct from the artist, ripped from RUclips, bands I learned about on Twitch (hi, Fantastic Plastics), etc. I don't know how many of them have signed media contracts, and the beautiful thing is that they don't need to sign a contract for me to find them, and pay them money.
Watching this video is one choice I could never regret. Bo represents a very important part of my high school experience and even then, I could see and interpret certain moments where his humor carried a grave warning about our future of self isolation. I already felt out of place and alone which made it easier for me to pick out the more serious undertones of his musings on stage. Thank you so much for making this video and all the others. I truly hope he is well and finally has a chance for peace.
Dumb people don’t get tone. Same people that go to stand up shows and have a cry. If you have to inability to recognise sarcasm, I think you’re socially inept.
There's no way that a channel putting out a long video like this every week can actually properly research what they're talking about. Kind of ironic given the topic of the video.
@@guhr1dy it's pretty hilarious to me that he assumes Bo not being active on social media means his mental health is poor. I stopped using all of it years ago and have never regretted it lol.
Bo rising to fame as one of the pioneers of 'internet celebrities' and not becoming a bonehead is a testament to his incredible intelligence. The dude hits the nail on the head every time he speaks about societal issues. Even the interviewers are caught off-guard when they realize how perceptive and brilliant he is
a 43 minute doc on Bo? Feels like we are back to 2021, and i love it I know i havent watched the video yet but i gotta say that the older i get the more i understand Bo. Mainly his later material such as Inside and Make Happy. Bo was honestly ahead of many people, the stuff he said only becomes more and more real as years ago, as sad as it sounds

being a comedy fan and Getting to experience and listen to Bo thru the end of highschool thru the early 2000s and the introduction and growth of social media helped me stay aware of the evil and hypocrisy of it all.
As someone that has had Panic Attacks for 20 years now, to the point where I have Panic Phobia, which just made everything a million times worse, I cannot imagine having a panic attack on stage in front of thousands of people.. But I also think back to my panic attacks when I was younger, and realize that it wouldn't have mattered where I was having them at.. My reaction would have been the same: literally feel like I'm dying, but way too embarrassed to allow anyone to ever know. I had *so many* panic attacks around people, in so many different scenarios, that I understand that it would have been brutal no matter what. I just wish I had been kinder to myself back then and opened up about it. Instead of waiting way too long. Maybe they wouldn't be as bad today if I wasnt so embarrassed about them back then. Smh. Wherever Bo is, I hope he's happy and I really, really hope he's panic attack free. 💙
For what it's worth, here's me wishing it gets better for you. A friend of mine's got that too. So I wish Bo, you and everybody reading this y'all are happy and panic attack free.
I cannot imagine 20 years. I had my first panic attack this past April. My body went straight to fight or flight- it was so PHYSICAL, and I was not expecting that, from the understanding I had at the time of panic and anxiety. First I felt a little off, then a flop sweat- so cold, I got in the shower, no relief. I suddenly had to go to the bathroom- urgently and entirely. my heart rate was through the roof and suddenly I was gasping like a fish out of water. I made it to my bed, truly thinking “is this it? Is this how I die” I was desperately trying to think of anything I could have ate or came in contact within the last 12 hours, trying to think of all those episodes of House I watched- I couldn’t BREATH. My bedroom is on second floor, and I could barely speak, or dial 911 on my phone. I couldn’t make it down the stairs- I was in a robe and gasping on my stairs when the firemen came. It was so, so frightening. I’ve only had two since, and know the signs. For the life of me, cannot imagine twenty years of it. I sincerely empathize with you, whatever your experience is like. I can understand developing a phobia around it. Like you, cannot imagine one starting while performing. Best wishes to you, friend
How did you get help for this? I've been in therapy for about half of my life, and nothing has helped. SSRIs make my panic attacks worse because they make me so sluggish that nothing ever gets done, thus even more anxiety over that.
I've been having panic attacks for over 8 years now. Meditation has helped tremendously, despite thinking that it ever would. Medication, specifically Seroquel, which also surprised me. Lots and lots of therapy. It has to be the trifecta, all tree things. Basically throw everything at it. I went from having almost daily panic attacks, to maybe one or two a year, which is progress.
Patrick CC always has impeccable timing. This time it's personal. I was thinking about Bo Burnham a few days ago and why we haven't seen him in a new project, yet. It's my day off and it's LUNCH TIME.
Bro the alternative viewpoint you had at the end was actually awesome and somehow perfectly tied everything together, imo. Just the how genuine and succinct you made it for about 10 sec was perfect lol because while there’s an extremely low chance of that being the case, it actually could be and I (hope) it gets people to think like that more often.
I've always loved bo. He caught my attention from the very beginning and even now as soon as I saw this video I had to watch it. He is a very compelling and deeply introspective human. I appreciate his mindset so much and I wish only the best for him. Thank you for sharing such an in-depth video on him. I didn't even know he made a movie! And it did so well! I'm gonna find it to watch when I get the chance. I truly hope he is able to find peace and meaning in his life that makes him feel fulfilled.
I think Patrick makes an interesting point. Bo spent a good part of his life writing songs about hating being a celebrity, hating the internet, etc. So while some may argue that Bo's departure from the internet is proof that he never wanted to be famous, I think Patrick is insinuating it could all be for attention, and maybe next year Bo will release a new Netflix special. Only time will tell.
@fatkidplays8446 you're so wierdly defensive of someone you don't know. It was public n I watched it go down. If you don't want replys don't make comments. Tf you're wierd
I been following Bo since the beginning and to see how far he's come to just step out of the limelight has been a pleasure most people today would never understand how highly intelligent he is.. Will truly be missed if he stops 😢
Great video, Over the years I have always tried to gain that attention in a way, mostly when i was in my teenager years. But i always found new platforms to express myself later on. Now I'm 26, and I really am getting tired of all this social media stuff. When i was at my worst in life, I was constantly scrolling through videos online. It demolished my focus and I could barley focus on my hobbies any longer which made me fall even deeper into despair. Recently got out of this mess. Everything in this modern America has been created to be addictive. Food, drinks, entertainment. It's a wild world anymore. I miss being a kid sometimes just for the faint memory of having a simpler and less consuming lifestyle.
Just went back to re-watch "what" after a couple years because of this vid. It hold up 100%, I still laughed at every beat I knew was coming, plus a couple dozen that I forgot happened at all because they were fast, but hilarious. Even the artsy/serious bits are watchable and carry genuine value in the sense that they make a concise/interesting points and explore important ideas. Plus, they provide a break from a straight-up 2 hour absurdist/raunchy set. He's a master of his craft, I love his style!
That’s 99% of all celebrities mostly artists and singers just like her lmao. Do your research on the Illuminati and to be exact look up Celebs doing the hidden hand, hidden eye, and the secret handshake they all do and you’ll see a pattern between almost every Celeb you see on tv or listen to on the radio they all eventually sign their soul away(dignity and morals), to get either money or fame so they all fs have done or still do weird fucked up shi
Reminds me of the way Justin Bieber was treated, especially in that 'would you rather' interview where he tried to respectfully shut it down by saying he *and* a large number of his fans were underage but the interviewer wouldn't let it go. Same with Chris Brown saying he survived CSA but no one really cared or seemed legitimately concerned (not a fan of his personality and actions in adulthood for obvious reasons, however I'll always have empathy for the child version of him and anyone who's suffered similarly). *No one* deserves that, and I hope to God others continue to support, believe, and openly show compassion to male victims/survivors & keep shutting down anyone who mocks, shames or straight up ignores them.
There's a reason that Hollywood has this weird sexual vibe about it. I would not be surprised if most people in that industry are mentally fucked, feeding of each other. Child abuse seems to be rife, alas.
Dope video, surprised you didn’t add his recent cameo in Jerrod Carmichael’s show. He wore a mask and basically repeated a lot of his thoughts on our dystopian world
I'm here by choice lol I really enjoy the deep dive approach you do and the fact that you don't stick to one genre or topic and expose all sorts of celebrities from movie stars to singers and even comedians. Well done sir 👍🏼👍🏼

This is great video and may be my favorite that you have put out. Great honesty that you shared during this video and a shared obsession we all submitted to.
I was one of those people who found him right at the start of his fame. He was such a witty lyricist and a breath of fresh air during a time of hood rap domination. The only other good musical comedian was Weird Al. I definitely consider Repeat Stuff to be his magnum opus, but specifically the music video. While the lyrics are already top teir, the level of a middle finger he gave to the ENTIRE industry with the video.... It was honestly incredible. I'm giving you a thumbs up and a comment for that very last thing you said, I think younger Bo might have agreed.
Smartphones and big corps taking over the internet is such a huge paradigm shift, and insanely destructive. Bo is just another dude with a voice and its good to see he had these interviews
Around the 35:00 mark, I always play your vids all the way through. Sometimes I have to come back to finish, but I always do. Your work is excellent and I'm extremely picky where I spend my time online. 5 stars to you and your team sir
Bo Burnham is a true philosopher for the social media age. At first insanely funny, and eventually just painfully poignant, his own historic arc kinda resembles a dramatic narrative itself, sorta lending a meta-realism to his moment in the limelight. I am glad to have witnessed his greatness, and I hope he's having a great time living outside the algorithm.
The thing Bo says at 16:20 about most good content not being displayed and instead most content being super derivative, like kids talking about pop culture...that's....literally what this Patrick CC video is. Eerie.

Same. It sucks now.
straight from the go internet
People create the old internet instinctively given the chance. It sprouted when we knew what was on TV wasn't real, because it had to make advertisers happy. On the internet people shared what mattered to them, or what they really thought about. The internet we have now is ruled by ad revenue. It ruins everything it touches.
Whenever somebody makes a little spot people can share with each other that isn't twisted by money yet, it looks like the old internet

Giving things your full attention is so important, being bored is important, we do not need constant stimulisation it's incredibly bad for us.
you are right. boring is freedom.

Letting Bo go, realising that the comfort he gave us came from the discomfort he lived with is the most loving and respectful way we can give back to him.
Lol
The younger generation feels the need to be relevant by having an online audience. I can't even imagine what that's like. Luckily, being Bo's age, I grew up during the early years where we still had some semblance of life offline. Not everything had to be recorded or created for relevance. Social media has to be absolutely horrible for kids today.
As Bo said, "maybe allowing giant digital media corporations to exploit the neurochemical drama of our children for profit, you know maybe that was uh, a bad call."
> it doesn't matter if my music is good or if I'm good. It only matters if I can market myself to a larger and larger audience
That was always true -- whether your talent can put food on the table was always a question of marketing.

Smh.

Have you tried magnesium it's calming and has been helping me out for 4 yrs now. Not high dosage cause that gives the runners.
Yeah what's scary is Bo is a smart guy, he could easily be playing all sides and seem genuine while raking in cash
He'll be back....he always comes back when we need him the most..
This is the first time I'm hearing about him, although the name is familiar, I guess I just didn't invest much time and energy to watch or listen.
@@PowerRangersFanAntiDinoFury you lucky bastard! Now go straight to his youtube channel and binge every video he has! Then his specials!
0:13 didn’t expect Brooke Hogan😂😂
One of my favourite videos is seeing bo in the crowd watching and smiling at someone sing his song live
Phoebe Bridgers singing That Funny Feeling. Yeah that was unreal. My two favorite artists. And now they date!
Inside is one of the greatest specials of all time. Breaks my heart
Also basically a documentary of what Covid was like for a lot of people, emotionally anyhow.
Totally agree. Hilarious and razor-sharp...but also so personal and harrowing i haven't been able watch it from beginning to end more than once.
That last 10 seconds made my jaw drop. Quality video.
Patrick took Bo's criticisms personally and felt like clapping back. 😂
Yeah wait what? Is he not a fan or .. lol
@@kaseybowser7259 He's an entertainer. Are you not entertained?!
@@SpennisTheMenace Yeah but that was a pretty unfounded reply. Kind of disappointing.
Do Nigahiga next. He was my all time favorite RUclipsr and I think him and Bo had the same ideas about fame
Uhm- no ahahaha nigahiga had plenty of his own issues-
@ K. Didn’t know you and Ryan Higa were best friends. My bad
@fatkidplays8446 you're so wierdly defensive of someone you don't know. It was public n I watched it go down. If you don't want replys don't make comments. Tf you're wierd
Holy crap yes please Nigahiga and mychonny
Nigahiga and Tim de la ghetto...always looked forward to their vids
I been following Bo since the beginning and to see how far he's come to just step out of the limelight has been a pleasure most people today would never understand how highly intelligent he is.. Will truly be missed if he stops 😢

Daawwwwgggg.... 22minutes is a shocker for me
Probably because i lost my job
This reminds me of that black mirror episode, ironic but it’s adding up
As someone who's never seen Black Mirror, which episode? I want to look it up.
@ it’s called 15 million merits, it’s a great watch
@@asaleewilson18 oof yeah, that episode never left me.
Nah man I went and sought you out. I respect your hard work and your teams hard work. You guys are the future of journalism.

I watch it whenever I’m depressed.
So good!
Let's not get carried away now

Just went back to re-watch "what" after a couple years because of this vid. It hold up 100%, I still laughed at every beat I knew was coming, plus a couple dozen that I forgot happened at all because they were fast, but hilarious. Even the artsy/serious bits are watchable and carry genuine value in the sense that they make a concise/interesting points and explore important ideas. Plus, they provide a break from a straight-up 2 hour absurdist/raunchy set. He's a master of his craft, I love his style!
I always look forward to your uploads 🙌🏻 I like Bo Burnham, so this should be a good watch.
What Katy said about him being 18 was super, super weird. Like seriously everyone gonna ignore that?
That’s 99% of all celebrities mostly artists and singers just like her lmao. Do your research on the Illuminati and to be exact look up Celebs doing the hidden hand, hidden eye, and the secret handshake they all do and you’ll see a pattern between almost every Celeb you see on tv or listen to on the radio they all eventually sign their soul away(dignity and morals), to get either money or fame so they all fs have done or still do weird fucked up shi
Unfortunately yes because she’s a woman and famous
Taylor and Swift and Conor Kennedy was also wild. Hold perps accountable, no matter the gender.
Dope video, surprised you didn’t add his recent cameo in Jerrod Carmichael’s show. He wore a mask and basically repeated a lot of his thoughts on our dystopian world
Excellent essay, putting all these excerpts from satirical songs in context with sincere interview clips.
This content deserves an award!
Never was a big fan of his until I watched "inside." Such a profound, funny, depressing, existential and introspective piece of content.
I was always a big fan he's a genius
I've been a fan for sooo long then poof, he was gone.
Welcome to the Internet imo is some of his best work ever

LET'S GOOOOO A BO BURNHAM VIDEO!!! I'VE BEEN WAITING AND PRAYING YOU'D MAKE ONE ON HIM!!! Thanks so much, Pat!!❤
You were praying about it? Dang, you really wanted this video.
last line went crazy
I'm here by choice lol I really enjoy the deep dive approach you do and the fact that you don't stick to one genre or topic and expose all sorts of celebrities from movie stars to singers and even comedians. Well done sir 👍🏼👍🏼
34:53 I’m here to let you know that I’m watching this video incredibly intently. I appreciate everything that you’ve said, and I know I’m going to kick myself for saying this, but I appreciate you for not having a disgusting ad in the middle of your video yet. You said that us watching the whole way improves your livelihood, I completely understand that and support that where my support stops is when you start trying to convince people what VPN or what service to use. That’s not your business because you’re not an advertising, but your business is sharing the information of these Hollywood stars and their deepest darkest secrets which you do a fantastic job of so keep it up.
I had NO idea this guy from Promising Young Woman has this entire comedic career behind him. Now I’m going to explore the whole career, thanks as always PCC for such an insightful banger!
His wholesome and comedic demeanor and career up until that role was specifically why they cast him there, she’s thrown off the same way we are.
PYW is a masterpiece as well.
I’m so jealous you get to experience Bo for the first time right now
He was really great in that, also just such an amazing movie
💯@@bowser_infamously
It's wild for me to think how someone can be introduced to Burnham through his films and have no idea of his status as an internet pioneer and legend.
what a banger video. seriously great work i knew next to nothing about bo burnham other than from an outside glance "wasnt for me" but now i for sure will have to give his content a shot now considering how fascinating this video is. I hope he is at peace wherever he goes next in life he has certainly earned it.
8th GRADE ( Bo's movie ) is one of my favorite films. There is nothing quite like it ! Thanks for this video, Patrick

Ah, yes. The good ol' days. Thank you Bo for those fun memories watching your specials with friends.
This is great video and may be my favorite that you have put out. Great honesty that you shared during this video and a shared obsession we all submitted to.
THE HELEN KELLER A THING HAS ME PISSING MY PANTS
I know. I was not expecting that, at all. 😂
This is your best video by far. You're actually interested in the subject, and it shows in the quality of your work.
I miss that man.
no you dont, this video reminded you he exists

Eerie.
Heath ledger needs to be on here at some point, only because his an icon whose story isn't known even by those hardcore Edgelord fans.
No
bro how would pat have him on if he passed away?..
@umadbro757lol why
I'm confused on why?
Patrick would butcher Heath’s story tbh. people should just go watch the documentary “I am Heath Ledger”
"Inside" is amazing.
Bro you got me so good when you’re like “or you have me on in the background and you’re doing something but now I got your attention hey” 😂😂😂😂GOT ME lmao
