    Love my Ginault.

  • @alexsdg3441
    @alexsdg3441 Год назад +7

    Now I am a true believer of Ginault. Since Ginault introduced Ocean Rover 1, I have been following their models and progress until now. From the time I was introduced to Ginault, I have bought and sold ... probably 10 of them. However currently, I am a proud owner of 3 Ginault watches : OR2 (GSL, aluminum bezel, no date, ETA), OR2 (GSL, ceramic, date/cyclops & SW) AND A SILENT SERVICE (No date version). And probably I will be keeping them for a very long time.
    When Ginault first introduced this Silent service, I was bit skeptical to plunge myself into this new design and concept.
    Come to think of it now, I was just to much in love with the dial design, fit & finish, GSL...etc of OR2 and just could not accept the newly designed dial and bezel.
    Today, I just received no date Silent service.
    IT IS JUST STUNNING! I must say that the bezel action & how it looks (it seems like the numbers in the bezel are just floating inside of the beautiful bezel) are actually much finer than OR2 ceramic bezel. And the dial & crystal. The AR on the crystal is just amazing. it is like I am looking thru the clearest & calmest water in a lake. There is nothing there. Just your eyes & appreciation thru the clearest crystal in the world. It is much (at least seems) flatter than my OR2 Ginault. Wider, slightly bigger...The strong presents of each indices actually makes the dial.
    Of course, the bracelet & clasp are the best in the price category. Many complains about the clasp not having a logo, but I fully understand that Ginault can not put their beautiful logo on the clasp until 2028 when Rolex patent expires. Nonetheless, it is the best glide lock clasp that your money can buy.
    Silent service means : one who goes about the business of serving others without being publicly acknowledged for it.
    What an excellent choice. I couldn't have named it better. A stunning job, Ginault. A stunning job!!!!

    There is a whole lot of hypocrisy out there these days. Virtually every dial design/arrangement case design has been designed. There are only so many ways to put together a wristwatch……there are going to be similarities all the time, there are Omega’s and Rolex’s that look very similar for example. Bottom line this watch is beautiful and incredibly well made, a true bargain.

      @@bobcrane812 that’s the long-standing allegation from years ago. Let’s just assume it’s true. In that case we have an extremely gifted watchmaker who chose to use his talents for counterfeit watch production. At some point, he chose to go legit, probably at a financial loss. I know we live in a culture of vengeance and not one of forgiveness……but at some point, it’s time to leave the past behind and evaluate the man and the company for what he’s producing today……which is a beautiful and extremely well made watch. I think it’d be sad to live as a person always trying to remind others what a person did wrong in the past…..that’s just a difference in personalities I guess.

      @@bobcrane812 I was talking about what we know is actually happening today. You are talking about what may have happened years ago. Two different things indeed and decidedly unmagnanimous of you. It is of course self evident that he/they can make the watches they currently are making. You know that movie plot where a character made mistakes in the past and acted poorly but then he starts over, decides to be the man he should be, and really starts doing things right? There’s always a side character who comes in and wants to destroy that man because he enjoys reminding everyone of the failings of others…..we call him the villain and the audience of course can’t stand him.

    I work out of the country and ended up buying a Ocean Rover n/date so I don't have anybody trying to rob me . Always worth at I'd end up in so.e foreign prison for killing some their. Anyways, a great watch that is well put together. This new , Silent Service looks to be more original in design and still very nicely done . No problem wearing any of the GINAULT watches. As an owner of the Silent Service, the top of the lugs aren't finished very well and look quite unfinished to me. Also the edges that meet up the bracelet at the top of the lugs were very sharp including the bottom of the case edge that sits on your wrist. Overall great watch but for the price I feel it could have better finishing. I took sandpaper to the edges and rounded them and am debating working on polishing the top of the lugs or not at this time.

      The exact comment I would write. I too have the OR1 and the OR2 and yes both great although the OR2 seems to be a slightly higher quality despite seeming virtually the same watch when you look at it. If the Silent Service is a step above the OR2 then it will be very special indeed.
      I also agree that if they could offer a blue dial and blue bezel or white face / black bezel or green/green then I would buy one, but in black and black it’s not different enough to the Ocean Rover for me to splash out on yet another Ginault I am afraid.

    Its a shame that Ginault says on their website not to handwind this movement. They say it will shorten the life of it or damage it.

    • @AverageBros
      @AverageBros  Год назад +2

      The Silent Service doesn't use their 'own' movement and instead uses a Sellita SW200. But in theory if you don't have to manually wind, why would you add undue stress to the mechanism and introduce another point of failure? Which is why so many collectors will warn to not wind unless you absolutely have to. Personally, I handwind automatics and rarely give it a second thought, but I also own a lot of watches, so there's really no chance of any excessive winding.

    • @jonirwin7316
      @jonirwin7316 Год назад +1

      @AverageBros in Ginaults case, winding is an issue. They say so. Winding for most movements doesn't add stress, they're made to do so. I'm aware that they use a clone ETA movement. Modern autos have a clutch to prevent overwinding. The ETA 2824 & Ginaults clone are highly prone to breaking from hand winding. Let's face it, for a + 1k watch, ppl want to hand wind most of the time to get things moving, not shake it. Winding should not be "another point of failure". Imo, this is not a good choice of movement.

    The MSRP on these is getting into absurd territory, that's nearing Monta Oceanking and Oris Aquis level, and I'm sorry this watch isn't up with those. Aside from all of the other shenanigans, and whether this company once made "replicas" or not, it says "chronometer" on the dial, and it has an *Elabore* grade movement. Nobody has a problem with this? I don't care if they regulate it in-house or not. Monta regulates in-house to +/- 5, but they DON'T describe their watches as "chronometers" because they ARE NOT CHRONOMETERS. No COSC, no chronometer. It's BS.

    • @Jedi391

      @rolexsubcasewearsbettertha9571 2 года назад +3

      I own the OR2, OR1 and Monta, I can fairly say the OR2 is better than Monta while the OR1 is a little bit behind. The watch is assembled in America so COSC won't certify it. But it doesn't mean the accuracy isn't chronometer level.

    • @Jedi391
      @Jedi391 2 года назад +6

      I checked the definition for chronometer and it does not mention COSC or specific standards, that’s simply an organization. The term chronometer based on the literal dictionary definition does indeed apply to Ginault. As for Monta, they could also fairly claim chronometer accuracy based on the definition, but they chose not to, that of course is their choice. Of course, you literally cannot become COSC certified if your watch isn’t built in Switzerland.
