    I ordered one yesterday and am really looking forward to it. I am not disillusioned by the homage aspect and truly feel it is like the Omega 2254.50. My son owns two Omegas and I have none. This watch is as close as I will get. That is fine with me. I do own two Christopher Wards and have one on order (in bronze). This hobby is fascinating!

      Nice yes of course the connections are there and that's what makes watches interesting to see the design DNA go from one era to the next and disappear and come back a few generations later. I say you should go bother your son for a watch :)
      Good choice on the Christopher Ward, I still think it's one of the better watches I've purchased. I just don't wear it as much due to the overabundance of watches. As always, keep it real.

    Great job on the video! I really appreciate all the effort you made with the filming and editing, very professional work. As for the watch, I’ve had a SS for nearly a year and totally agree with your objective assessment and review. Out of my collection, this is one of my top 3 favorites in any price class. Despite the controversy surrounding whomever is behind the Ginault brand, they are clearly a talented watchmaker. When I consider this watch on its own merits, it punches well above its price range. Of course, a watch purchase is an emotional and personal choice. For me, the Ginault Silent Service is a winner. The quality, finishing, feel and accuracy are exceptional for the price. All I can say is, whoever is behind the brand knows how to make a damn good watch. Thanks for doing this review.

      Thanks for your words. The SS is still part of my collection and I stand by what I said then and it's just basic knowledge that you just know when you feel the thing in hand. It just has a sense of tactility no other watch has. Well let's see, I haven't heard much about any new watches coming from Ginault the owner is probably just eating up all the $$$ :D All the best from Vancouver, Canada.

    I actually have both versions of this the traveler in a no date and the diver and a date with Cyclops these watches are of the highest quality and are extremely beautiful and as another viewer pointed out especially in the daylight the glow-in-the-dark loom rivals Rolex easily

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster  Год назад +1

      Hi Mr. E! Thanks for your comment and your contribution. I thought about the cyclops as well but I usually am not a fan of cyclops I realized after trying a few from different brands. Maybe later in life when my eyesight is no longer where it is and I find trouble reading but so far I think it makes for a cleaner look but it's not a make or break kind of complication for me. Yes lume is quite good, it doesn't last as long as I like but in darkness it doesn't make a huge difference and is still legible. Overall in my experience so far, I originally really was keen on the idea of lumed bezels but with actual practice I do find the bezel lume to be pretty useless and instead would be happy with a 12 o'cock pip lume. It would be great if they used the lume for the bezel and simply did more applications of lume on the actual indices and hands. That being said since the lume on the bezel of this watch is behind glassware it is different than those that are simply bare. All the best to you and as always keep it real. -Martin

    Nice review! The bracelet may be off-the-shelf, but it's a very good one. I've had cheaper glide lock style bracelets before. Some where better than others (e.g., Tisell's), but Ginault's is far better in terms of finishing, tighter tolerances, and the gliding mechanism itself. The end links are also shorter and don't extend the lug distance as much as others do.

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster  Год назад +2

      Hi BetamaxBabe, I agree with you that the bracelet is probably one of the best for the money and punches well above its weight class. Yes I've also had cheaper glide locks and they all fail miserably as in they don't glide at all instead just kind of skitter along with added force. I think the overall tactility you get from the bracelet is superior than most other brands even those that are asking for more money. The biggest issue I have with the bracelet is the lack of branding which to me smells of products being made for a secondary grey market instead of a tailored and custom job for Ginault. All the best and as always keep it real. -Martin

      @watchluster  Год назад

      Hi Christian CBE, thanks for the comment and the watch isn't really suited I think for a vintage style lume in my opinion but that's just me possibly. I wouldn't be against it and would welcome any variations to the watch from Ginault. Maybe the owner will be able to provide some more flexibility in the future with the next watch release and give some added customization to the watch. It would be way cool I think if we could customize the watches even more to suit our tastes considering the watches are hand built anyway why not open up the floodgates on that and give some more power to the consumer.
      Thanks again and as always all the best to you and your loved ones. -Martin

    Nice review fellow new-ish reviewer! I do agree about this watch-the band is almost certainly a premium quality import. But the watch head itself is one of the very few American made pieces and the quality is top notch. Maybe they did make Rolex apes, but I am with you that people change and if you take this watch for what it is, it is excellent.

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster  5 месяцев назад

      Hey WatchDanReviews, welcome to the 'watch' channel club :D
      Yea it's for certain that the band is an import or at least sourced to the 'right' type of people that do that kind of work :)
      Speaking objectively the watch is a beast of a watch and can pretty much top any other watch in this price range and more so as much as people love to rag on homages and ex-couterfeiters well it's hard to argue against something when it's so obviously BETTER in all regards than most other watches.
      It is a sad affair but imitation is often times how we all started to learn and as is said is well the most flattering of all compliments.
      All the best from Vancouver, Canada.

    It’s a nice homage piece. With those macro lens shots you can see the finishing on the hands and indices isn’t wonderful. At this price point it’s normal. But nothing extraordinary.
    If you look at Monta or Formex you’ll get better finishing overall.
    This is my opinion

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster  5 месяцев назад

      I agree, the Monta and Formex will get you better overall fit and finish but you also tend to pay more for those offerings.
      I debated the Monta but none was available that I liked and also to be honest it was a bit too mature for me in terms of aesthetics or at least that's what I thought.
      The Formex has also crossed my mind but I never got along with their utilitarian look so much though they do offer some nice decent casual looks it really wasn't for me I realized.
      Good points and well received.

    Not worth the price. It is also NOT a chronometer, but merely called this by the brand because of the supposed testing by its own personnel. And for the inflated price of these, they could have used the COSC certified Sellita movement. That would have been a real feather in their cap. There is too much to be suspicious about the provenance of the watches themselves. Hand 'assembled' is a more honest description that ought to be emblazoned on the dial, but that doesn't resonate as well. More than 90% of the components originate from Asian factories.
    I have nothing against homage watches, nor do I oppose the Chinese brands and manufacturing. I am of the mind that with continued patronage of Chinese brands, the labour practices and pay will improve - just as it has in the US and Europe over the last century. I am skeptical, however, about the backstory that two American guys spend their days 'building' these watches, when the truth is that nearly everything arrives to their address, from a Chinese factory, with a modicum of assembly. The origin story of the brand is as disingenuous as the replicas they once made and sold. For this reason, it is not a wise expenditure of money when there are dozens of brands out there making the same watch - at a lower price.

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster  Год назад +4

      Hi Martin, your skepticism is well noted and not totally unfounded. You make some interesting points and I won't really change your mind as it's a free world. What in your mind would be similar in this price range? I can only think of a couple myself and would like to hear your thoughts on what options are out there. Cheers and all the best.

    • @bidipbo

      @@watchluster There are so many watches that have similar to superior build quality and materials - where to start? Swiss Military by Chrono; Marathon (Swiss Made); San Martin (w/Sellita); Yema (French Made w/ in-house movement); Zelos (exotic materials in limited editions); Spinnaker (check the Piccard!); Hamilton; Christopher Ward; Long Island Watch; Citizen; SEIKO!
      Each one of these companies produce watches for LESS than the price of the Silent Service. A couple of the aforementioned do produce watches exceeding the thousand dollar mark, but in every instance, it is a superior timepiece than what Ginault is ASSEMBLING.
      What I have rediscovered over the last couple of years is the joy of watch collecting. However, instead of adding to my collection with expensive Swiss made offerings, I now purchase low and mid-tier options because these brands are proving the possibility of possessing high quality timepieces at a fraction of the price. There is NO justification for Ginault to be more than $1,000 - none. It's a shameless cash grab. They have zero patrimony and seemingly, no path forward. I am uncertain of their commitment.
      In the end, there is nothing inferior about their product, but the price isn't justified - not when dozens of companies are making the same watch for 300-$400.

The point I have made is that this watch is available from a variety of Chinese brands at a fraction of the price for which Ginault sells it. To be clear, I am not saying this precise iteration is available. I am saying that all of the components are made in China and available in different models, all of which are sold at a lower price.
