I appreciate all the tips, here. You saved me from a lot of headaches! I had to set my trx4m down for a while and come back to it with some research (this vid lol) after the diff ring gear and pinion gear simply wouldn't mesh correctly and there was so much slop in there that I didn't understand whatsoever. So, I played around with shim placements you showed here as I haven't seen in other videos--after a few adjustments, it's 99.9% perfect! Which is fine enough for me as there is still transmission slop I'm currently working on. Hopefully any difference I can make at the transmission will iron out just how much twist there is/was all around. Thanks so much for in depth build and tips here!
Oh I understand now...I use rubber washers, they can flex and move with your axle and at the same time, they seal the diff that little bit more. Its because my kit doesn't come stock with them C clips.
@@burdon84 they seemed pretty good like your set up, so I phased the driveshafts while I was in there like your other video and that help smooth things out a lot. Thanks again. 👍
Johnny, you font of all knowledge you, after installing a boomracing overdrive kit into my boomracing ar44 (front) axle on my 10.2, the diff snags and catches when going forwards downhill. Smooth as silk uphill and on the level. A shimming issue do you think? There is a little play on the shaft but there was before the overdrive went in, so I left it be.
Sounds like it to me mate, when the pressure shifts forward on the truck, the whole drive line shifts a little, she may just want either one little shim added or removed depending on what's already in it
On what truck? Depending on the truck, sometimes your better off changing the motor to either a higher or lower turn to get the effect your after. Lower turn given you more wheel speed and less torque, higher being lower wheel speed and higher torque
@@burdon84 ive shimmed the back diff no difference ill do the front see how that works its just that click is really annoying the noise only happens in reverse
This is not what shimming a diff refers to. Firstly, you don’t have a diff. You have a solid axle which is great for crawling. I would refer to your video as shimming your pinion. The shim determines the play between,.... you know the rest. Nice video. Just needs a better title
I bet your fun at parties... in the rc crawler world, this is how you shim your diffs.. as it's all a part of the diff setup itself and is what helps it all run as it should. I'm an Aussie, we use our terminology..
Fair enough...what's typically though of as diff shimming isn't in fact diff shimming either then. It's ring & pinion shimming. Technically diff shimming takes place INSIDE the diff.
@@jmills4313 yes another great point!! Everyone in the world makes the same mistake over and over again and nobody ever questions the terms and the bad habits get passed on forever
Aaahhh, RC. One of the only hobbies you can watch another man grease his shaft and not feel wrong about it.
Haha right!
Now I feel dirty.

Happy to help mate, I ain't get time to do much rc these days, but it's to see my videos still helping people
Just the info I needed to tackle my click Element build. Thanks!
Thinking about getting a Trx. I wanna make sure it’s good to drive before taking it out!!
Always good to go over everything before taking it out, even if it's rtr!!
Thanks for the video. Fairly new to RC and this was very informative and well done.
Glad to help mate
Great video bro! First one I've seen on shining the diff's! Thanks for the info!
My pleasure mate!
Thank you man
Works perfect I just finished to fix the diff in my Tamiya CC-02
Works PERFECT now
My absolute pleasure mate! Happy to help!

Great info mate. Nicely done.
Much appreciated mate! Glad you like it!
Great video. Do you remember if you needed to shim the sg4?
Nope it was perfect mate
I HAVE THE CROSS HC-6 HOW CAN I FIX THE PLAY IN THE AXLES???????????
Make sure you've shimmed the axles properly, also let it be noted that all trucks need some movement, otherwise everything is to strained
Right gotcha thank you so much mi FAMILIA!!!!

Honestly can't remember mate haha its from a license free site
Professional work. 👍👏👌💪
Thanks buddy!
super helpful. thank you!
My pleasure!
Awesome Tip brother
Thanks buddy! Hopefully it helps some people out there!
my diff for my scx10 doesn't catch right away to the wheels it takes a second how do i fix that
Shimming will definitely help that's for sure, a little play is always good as it's basically a protection against breakages
@@burdon84 alright thanks brother
Great tip. 👍
Thanks mate!
Awesome video. I’m really liking my SG4C. Great tip
Thanks mate!

Thank you!
How on earth is adding a shim to the outside of the housing going to cause the ring and pinion mesh to match up better? That makes no sense
Because it pulls the gear away from the crown gear.... Makes perfect sense
Advice helped a lot! Passed on by @antrcfun

With cheap stuff it's usually best to leave it be lol they tend to break easy haha
My diff slips on sudden acceleration so doing this will help im a noob
The diffs really shouldn't slip, definitely open everything up and take a look at what's going on inside
