- Episode 5 of Star Wars The Acolyte 'Night' Is a fantastically fun and thrilling fight scene. But thats all it is.

I like the shiny lights. they flash real good. this is the best episode. and then they talked. this was polished turd. I liked the bracer and helmet that efs with the lightsabers. that was about it. and did you notice that she that when she force pulled the lightsaber just before she cuts her hair was shot in revers. watch it again.. you will see it.
Much like last jedi, I'll probably never watch this again.
This episode was peak lightsaber combat. The choreography for this fight was incredible and Qimir is the most dangerous sith we've ever seen on screen. Trying to tie the best fight scene to a fake critique of "lesbian space witches" is pretty cringe though. None of them are romantically tied to each other and there are no scenes that make it seem like they are. No different than calling nuns lesbian because there aren't male nuns.

Fight choreography was cool but the character decisions and dialog was like a bag of hammers.

@@burgunbeerd This one is a great example of how it feels like the character decisions feel like someone tried to write a TV show out of the random --- that happened in a TTRPG.
But they don't carefully explain it... they just fling stuff around like confetti.
The part where he pulls the Jedi onto the lightsaber is so god damn predictable and corny lol so I guess I shall respectfully disagree. When people say that was cool , they don’t realize this is why creatives think they can give us lightsaber fights and no meaning . Saying it was still cool is Half the battle won to them. They know they don’t have to produce great storytelling and writing . It has to be average and add in cool fights and we are good lol . Expectations hit the floor and you find people mouths hitting the floor for subpar action. Light saber throw was stupid as well depth was weird. The reasoning he had for why he is what he is so so shallow it was a nothing burger. Im sure people can enjoy this and kudos to them but can we please not bash Hollywood when it’s clear people will accept average writing , average acting , average execution as a whole as long as the action is there people will watch and praise.
@@rashawnwalker9398 yeah the mood got KILLEd when the bad guy just.. wipes out a half dozen people who should actually know how to fight.... None of it made sense.
Given the 'reveal' - the only reason everything went this way is because the Jedi let discount Ezra Miller go free in episode 2 despite being complicit in the poisoning of the BeeGee Jedi AND presumably murdering the apothecary. So contrived.
They didn't let him go free though? They tried to use him as bait and he escaped with Mae.
@@diyomaxwell330 Nope - they had him in custody and let him go. He wasn't even there when they confronted Mae.They let Woo Thin watch him from. a distance the NEXT day instead of holding him.
@Amazingsloth the next night is when he told them she would be returning for her things. She jumped him in the alley the following day as he tried to escape and they left together

@@Amazingsloth I'd never sit here and pretend the Jedi are the ultimate beings in terms of competence. But saying they just let him go is a bit of an exaggeration. If he was cuffed up in the shop with Jedi posted all over the block Mae wouldn't have come back. Qimir did even make it a point to express urgency to leave because they were under surveillance. They most certainly didn't arrest him, but that's because they tried [and failed] to use him as bait INSTEAD of arresting him. Just another bad call to add to the Jedi's list.
If only the characters were written by the person who wrote discourse. Maybe then they'd be good
0:30 ohh and I love how last week one of the writes was saying they had to split this into 2 episodes. Keep in mind they had to cut the Wookie fight scene (that arguably most people wanted to see since the wookie was so heavily shown off during promotion of the show) for budget reasons, but let this fight drag on for 25 minutes when it should have been done in 5 or under. (Anakin vs Obi-Wan was about 11 minutes)
Disney forcing this into 8 episodes is probably damaging it just as much as the writers inability to actually write. I thiiiiiiink we will still get one Wookie fight in a flashback of Mae's side of the story because i think theres a him vs Torbin moment in the trailer (witch maybe makes them fight with the mind takeover she shows in ep3 otherwise why show that power)
@@burgunbeerd agreed, they have about 3 episodes worth of story to tell and if it was all released together I'm sure there's a few points that wouldn't have been hammered as hard by critics as they were but they made this bed now it's time to lay in it.
With Bazil (little Otter guy) introduction, let's just go full Scooby Doo and get that team involved. "I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for these damn Jedi" Plageus was also a Muun, he wasn't a human, I can only imagine the fallout if they Species swap him.
unfortunatley Disney is so powerful they have the ability to manipulate the canon to create... whatever they want. I'm unsure if Plagues being a Muun has been mentioned since Disney scrapped legends so anythings possible sadly

I saw a post that said each episode has a budget double of godzilla minus one which is insane.
its not quite double but way more than it should be. Minus One cost about 15mil but each Acolyte episode is 22ish million. Insanity

The code is ridiculous, the whole show feels contrived. The “sith” shouldn’t be running around after helping kill the second Jedi Master.

Yord and his Padawan (that is never seen again) have found the assassin. They know it's her because the bartender said so (case closed). They put her on a droid prison transport because she's just an ex Padawan that killed a Jedi Master so probably not dangerous. Even though she is very dangerous and they are going to the same place, we just can't fit her on our ship, it's a two seater. She and Yord were even together as Padawan's at the temple. Wow, we could use this trip to develop these two characters and build some some kind of emotional attachment between them so later Osha seeing him die will result in more than a blank stare from her and audience indifference. Nah, lets do something totally ridiculous instead and hopefully use up a lot of the budget for nothing. Sounds great!
This is just a small piece of the masterful story telling and you can plainly see it is written for those approaching genius level IQ which has be estimated to be around 1% of the worlds population. Which leads me to conclude it's rotten tomato score is completely false being at 14%. Clearly 13% of these people are idiots.
It's episode 5, and I still don't know what Mae and Osha want and what they are prepared to do to get it.
Mae's changed her mind so many times I doubt she knows either!

oh fun fact they had finished filming the first version of this a year and half ago and showed it to test audiences, who did not like it. So they did some reshoots and showed it to test audiences again and same result, so another round of reshoots and same thing happened so finally they brought dave Fillioni for a script rewrite and they filmed that and here we are.
I've heard of there being one reshoot, where'd you hear the rest?

@@obi_dean It's totally the sunk cost fallacy. They need to spend less money from the start on thes projects, and be essentially testing the script early as a stage play with no costumes, no set pieces, no makeup, and no famous actors. If it tests badly, scrap the whole thing rather than throwing hundreds of millions at it.

@@burgunbeerd The saddest thing is that the show kinda have some interesting ideas, that in concept could be interesting, but the execution is horrible. I wouldn't mind some gay romance in star wars, but the way they try to present it is offensively bad.

This whole show, but especially this episode, makes me feel like I’m having a stroke. For 25 minutes every time I saw Mae I couldn’t stop thinking: “YOU WERE TURNING YOURSELF IN JUST LET THEM ARREST YOU WTF” lmao holy shit this is a mess it really messes up my brain

If you go read the books you'll learn her character. She's not here to be part of the main plot. Most of her story is already told by this point in the timeline.
We know Leslye Headland said this was based on a TTRPG campaign she was in. We also know green Jedi is Leslye Headland's actual wife. Maybe the wife was the GM and the green lady is a GM insert character?

And no, I'm not joking. This series is fanfic based on Star Wars... and a large chunk of it was made up for a TTRPG campaign... by whoever was the GM of that psecific campaign. Whether it uses characters that were pre-existing doesn't really matter.

The fact that the showruner has explicity stated that her favorite star wars media has been the high republic era, the fact that she regularly asked and consulted Filoni whom after being named CCO a few months back has stated that the high republic is a great place to start expanding out the timeline. If the chief creative officer is interested in this time period and wants to flesh out this point in history I find it very unlikely that he would allow them to make a 'Critical Role' star wars show.
Its good if you know less about SW than the writers, which is nearly impossible

Here’s the thing about Star Wars…it’s not high cinema. It’s never been “good”. Since 1977 Star Wars has been full of corny dialogue, wooden acting, plot holes you could fly a Star destroyer through, and constant contradictions and retcons. 90% of the complaints about the Acolyte could easily be applied to the OT.
Along the way there’s been some incredible stories told. Rebels gets a chefs kiss for story telling. But at the end of the day Star Wars is silly, turn your brain off and eat popcorn sci-fantasy. Which is part of the reason we love it so much.
At the moment, we’re giving the Acolyte a C+. It’s definitely not the worst thing in the franchise but it’s also not even close to being the best. It’s ok. Theres things we like about it and things we don’t. So I guess to the gatekeepers and “real” fans we’re still half dumb.
We know hating on the Acolyte is what all the cool nerds are doing for clicks and views right now, but we’ll stick with a more positive outlook. ❤

Why would it be a Sith? He has a Kylo Ren Helmet and Music, perhaps he's a Knight of the Ren? And this leads to the Mando movie when they attack Luke's Jedi academy. Disney isn't going to change it all leads to the sequel trilogy.
You have to admit that Manny Jacinto (Qimir/Sith) is VERY hot. Those arms! Imagine if Qimir was turning our very own Marko to the dark side and they rub olive oil all over each other and wrestle Turkish style? They could grab each other's lightsabers. Dan would film, of course.
